CURSED AWAKENING Unleashes New Single "Past Newtonium," A Relentless Harbinger Of The Next Album

Chicago death metal band CURSED AWAKENING (FKA - ARRHYTHMIA) returns with their new single "Past Newtonium," a punishing new track that serves as the first warning of a full length album coming later in 2026.

To sum up "Past Newtonium" in one word, unrelenting. The song opens with a slow and deceptively restrained introduction before rapidly giving way to steady, ferocious triplet feel chugging. Razor sharp riffing drives the track forward as it erupts into a blistering Kerry King esque solo. The final moments descend into a brutal breakdown filled with screaming pinch harmonics, before returning to the intro riff to seal the track with grim finality.

Lyrically, "Past Newtonium" reflects a moment in the album where panic and overwhelming self disgust take center stage. The themes focus on self loathing, irreversible mistakes, and the suffocating realization of one’s own perceived corruption, reinforcing the psychological weight carried throughout the record.

Most of the riffs for "Past Newtonium" were written by rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist Abraham Verdin, with the song’s ominous intro drawing inspiration from BEHEMOTH’s "Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel." The result is a track that blends old school death metal aggression with deliberate pacing, thrash influenced precision, and non standard song structure.

Formed in Chicago, Illinois in 2021, CURSED AWAKENING (formerly known as ARRHYTHMIA) delivers a thrashy death metal sound rooted in classic influences such as DEATH, BOLT THROWER, AT THE GATES, SLAYER, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, and SUFFOCATION. At the heart of De Venom Natura lies a central concept: Nature as both seduction and toxin, creation and annihilation. The record contemplates poison not as mere destruction, but as a transformative agent within an eternal cycle of life, death and rebirth. Across seven tracks, including “Lunga vita alla necrosi,” and “Il veleno della Natura,” the band articulate this duality through ritualistic repetition, lyrical invocations and a tension-driven sonic architecture.

Emerging from Turin’s underground in 2020, Ponte Del Diavolo have forged a distinct identity rooted in doom, black metal, post-punk and wave. Their uncommon dual-bass configuration remains central to the project’s character, grounding rhythmic guitars beneath wave-tinged female vocals and a raw, dynamic drum pulse. On De Venom Natura, that foundation is pushed further. The core instrumentation was recorded live at The Deepest Sea studio in Turin to preserve the immediacy and tension of their performances.

With De Venom Natura, Ponte del Diavolo extend their boundaries without abandoning their core identity. It is a record that channels stage-born intensity into a controlled studio ritual, where poison becomes revelation and decay becomes a form of consciousness.

PONTE DEL DIAVOLO craft a focused blend of doom, black metal, post‐punk, and wave—an aesthetic they call “blackened post‐punk.” Wave‐tinged female vocals anchor the project’s flaming core, supported by an uncommon dual‐bass setup that grounds the rhythmic guitars and a raw, dynamic drum pulse.

The result is an immersive, tension‐driven sound. Following the initial release of three EPs, the band signed to Season of Mist and unveiled their first full-length album, Fire Blades from the Tomb.

After two years on the road - appearing at leading European festivals such as Roadburn and Inferno in support of their debut - Ponte del Diavolo return with “De Venom Natura,” a record that extends and refines their musical boundaries.

FORGOTTEN SHRINE Release Haunting Version Of BREAKING BENJAMIN's "Crawl"

Emerging out from the shadows, folk metal ensemble FORGOTTEN SHRINE, comprised of Josh Alexander and Sofia Frasz (EXILED HOPE), present an explosive and thrilling cover of BREAKING BENJAMIN's "Crawl". 

Josh Alexander shares: "BREAKING BENJAMIN brings me back to a much simpler time of Halo LAN parties and hard rock, which we now call 'dad rock'. When Sofia approached me with the idea I was very excited because this song has almost no covers to be found online. And being that we are FORGOTTEN SHRINE, we had to put our own spin on things as far as the arrangement, both vocally and musically, evoking an almost horror vibe. I can't wait to see what everyone thinks!"

Sofia Frasz comments: "BREAKING BENJAMIN was the soundtrack to my middle school and high school years, and remains one of my favorite bands to this day. A few months ago, I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to cover a song that no one else seemed to pay much attention to. I had a specific idea for a cinematic cover of 'Crawl' in my head, and it turned out so beautifully that we couldn't wait to release it. I'm my own worst critic and almost never listen to my own music, but I've had this one on repeat on and off since we finished it back in November. I'm proud to have put such a special new twist on what I consider to be an underrated classic."

FORGOTTEN SHRINE create an eerie atmosphere in "Crawl" from the off with ethereal traditional instruments and haunting choir voices building into the heavy riffs. Enchanting folk parts, along with both Frasz and Alexander's clean vocals, are powerfully juxtaposed with heavy distortion and their fierce harsh. It's an enchanting and charismatic take on a noughties fan favorite.

"'Murder Scene' explores eating disorders, body dysmorphia, self-doubt, and how dreams can become nightmares when the same people who once cheered for you are now criticizing you," says singer and songwriter Amanda Lyberg. "The dream of being on stage comes with a spotlight on my personal flaws. I'm just a body. To be picked apart and judged and perceived. Anxiety is a liar in my head. It tells me I'm not good enough to be here. So, I fight it. I changed my name and my image to prove it wrong. Still the anxiety gets louder. I think it's trying to kill me. In a world so desensitized, it feels like death has been redefined as a minor inconvenience. I'm insecure about my body so anxiety might win. My skin is crawling, and every part of my body feels wrong. Maybe I'll call a doctor and get it altered. Maybe if I don't eat, I'll feel better."

"Murder Scene" is the follow-up to the blistering and inspirational anthem "Awakening," released October 17 via Better Noise Music. It was the first taste of new music in two years from the Detroit, MI quintet.
  

For all of EVA UNDER FIRE's new music, Amanda drew on her career as a licensed therapist to foster an open dialogue among the band members, empowering everyone to be heard during the recording. Her work in therapy started in 2018 when she graduated with a Master of Arts in Psychology degree and went on to work at a mental health clinic in Detroit, Transcendence Behavioral Health (owned by Dr. Stephanie Williams). That same year, her father passed away due to a fentanyl overdose. Her mother survived the same batch that killed her father and has been sober for the past six years. In addition to her thriving and busy music career, Amanda is currently a practicing psychotherapist specializing in trauma work, grief and loss, and addiction recovery.

Her story turned into a 2023 short film, My Rockstar, which used EVA UNDER FIRE music throughout, and has won over 20 awards in several film fests including Orlando Film Fest, Wild Rivers Film Festival, Toronto WILDfilm Festival, and many others.

In touring news, EVA UNDER FIRE will hit the road for a six-week U.S. tour with Jeris Johnson and Butcher Babies starting February 8 in Portland, OR. KING ULTRAMEGA Release Tribute Cover of "Preaching The End Of The World" Honoring Chris Cornell and Supporting MusiCares

KING ULTRAMEGA have released a powerful new single, a cover of "Preaching The End Of The World", recorded in loving memory of Chris Cornell while raising funds and awareness for MusiCares, the Recording Academy’s nonprofit that provides mental health services, addiction recovery support, and emergency assistance to members of the music community.

Originally written and performed by Chris Cornell, "Preaching The End Of The World" remains one of the most emotionally resonant songs of his solo career. The new interpretation from KING ULTRAMEGA preserves the emotional core of the original while expanding its sonic landscape with layered guitars, cinematic keyboards, and a dynamic, atmospheric arrangement.

The recording features vocals by Ian Thornley of BIG WRECK, guitars by Pete Thorn, bass by Mark Menghi, keyboards and synth by Dave Kerzner and Frank Mitaritonna, and drums by Kenny Aronoff. The track was produced by Mark Menghi, engineered by Frank Mitaritonna, Dave Kerzner and Mark Menghi, mixed and mastered by Josh Wilbur, with cover artwork and video created by Costin Chioreanu. Original music by Chris Cornell.

Speaking about joining the project, Ian Thornley said, "Pete Thorn is a dear friend and fellow Canadian who I know played with Chris Cornell for many years. He’s a great musician, and we’re always looking for projects to do together, so it was a quick ‘yes’ from me."

Kenny Aronoff shared, "I wanted to be part of this project because I know Mark was involved, and I’ve always been a huge fan of anything Chris Cornell on so many levels. ‘Preaching The End Of The World’ is an amazingly beautiful song, and Chris’s vocal performance is one of the most passionate and emotional vocal performances I have ever heard."

Producer and bassist Mark Menghi reflected on the song’s meaning, saying, "It’s a song about loneliness and searching for connection, something I can relate to. Just listen to the lyrics of this song. Chris is authentic, emotional, and vulnerable."

Pete Thorn also looked back on performing the song live with Cornell. "‘Preaching The End Of The World’ is a beautiful song that I always enjoyed performing with Chris during my time on tour with him. I remember a show in Tel Aviv where he talked about writing it during a dark time, but ended by saying, ‘but I made it!’ I always think about that in a positive way. He made it for a long time, and we should all be thankful for that."

Discussing the musical direction, Menghi added, "When I chose this song for KING ULTRAMEGA, I had a late 60s Beatles production vibe in mind. I tried to honor what made Chris’s original recording so special, not only instrumentally but in the production as well."

Ultimately, the musicians view "Preaching The End Of The World" as a defining piece of Chris Cornell’s artistic legacy, and hope this tribute both honors his songwriting and helps support members of the music community through MusiCares.

SYLOSIS - drop psychological heavy-hitter 'Lacerations' from forthcoming album 'The New Flesh'

SYLOSIS have revealed the third single from their fiercly anticipated record, The New Flesh, due to drop on February 20th via Nuclear Blast RecordsThe New Flesh is being hailed as a towering testament to destructive riffing, incisive melody and refined brute force.

Today's new single, the psychological heavy-hitter 'Lacerations', showcases SYLOSIS at a career apex - stacked with anthemic hooks, razor sharp, and heavy-as-hell. The track encapsulates brutality and catchiness in perfect symbiosis.   

Josh Middleton stated,
"Lacerations has become a firm favourite amongst those that have heard the new record. After this song came together during the early stages of writing, I felt a huge sense of relief knowing that we had achieved our best song to date. I couldn’t get the chorus out of my head and that’s usually a good sign. Once we had this song under our belts we knew this album would a big step up in terms of our writing abilities.

Musically it calls back to some of the darker melancholic sounds from Edge of the Earth or even The Supreme Oppressor but with a ton of heavy riffs in there. Lyrically, this song is about facing your own mortality and health anxiety. I think a lot of people can relate to spiralling out of control when they think something’s wrong and how differently you look at your life, and what matters most when confronted with those intrusive thoughts."

SCHATTENMANN strike back with the release of the official music video for their new single "Kamikaze". The track is taken from the upcoming studio album Endgegner, set for release on March 13 via PERCEPTION - A Division Of Reigning Phoenix Music! Funeral Release Lyric Video for “Three Dead Men”

As their latest album, Gospel of Bones, continues to resonate, today, FUNERAL are sharing a new lyric video for “Three Dead Men”. This song is an autobiographical reflection by drummer and composer Anders Eek on the loss of three close friends within a seven year period, including former Funeral members Einar Fredriksen and Christian Loos.

The vocals on “Three Dead Men” are performed by guest vocalist Espen Ingierd of Beyond Dawn, whose restrained and human delivery contrasts with the operatic approach heard elsewhere onGospel of Bones. The song’s slow tempos and dense arrangements favor atmosphere and emotional gravity over excess. It addresses grief as a lasting condition rather than a closed chapter, aligning closely with the album’s broader focus on lived experience, endurance and emotional aftermath.

The new video for “Three Dead Men” uses symbolic imagery centered on movement, stillness and isolated physical gestures to convey memory, absence and vulnerability. Rather than offering narrative resolution, its closing moments suggest continuation, with emotional weight remaining present as life moves forward.

Roughly 20 tracks were composed throughout the Covid pandemic(9 of whom made it to the studio), and yet again recorded and mixed at Toproom Studio, by Børge Finstad.

Violinist Øyvind Rauset, from the cult Norwegian folk-rock band FOLQUE, is performing on 2 tracks as a guest musician, as well as Espen Ingierd, with his very distinct singing-style in the vein of John Lennon, Michael Gira (SWANS)etc from cult doom/death band BEYOND DAWN singing on 2 tracks.

The album also contains an instrumental cover song , written by Kjetil Selvik, and is a melancholic piece only consisting of harding fiddle and church organ.

The lyrical content of the album is an autobiography of life’s mishaps of drummer/composer  A. Eek, and deals with real darkness, misery, pain and loss.  A Gospel of Bones.
