Miranda Lambert Announces "Music for Mutts" Benefit Concert, Oct. 5 at Nashville's Ascend Amphitheater

The most-awarded artist in Academy of Country Music history and animal champion Miranda Lambert will take center stage with a soon-to-be-announced lineup of her animal-loving artist friends at Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday, October 5 for an evening of music and fun presented by Tractor Supply Company. Net proceeds from the event will benefit MuttNation Foundation, the 501c3 nonprofit that Lambert co-founded with her mother, Bev, in 2009. MuttNation has raised nearly $10 million to date in support of its mission to advance and support the welfare and adoption of shelter pets nationwide.

George Strait Confirms New Album is Coming: “Cowboys and Dreamers”; Plays to 51,132 at NFL Stadium Lucas Oil Stadium

From the moment George Strait stepped on stage at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium Saturday night (May 4, 2024), it was clear he and the Ace in the Hole Band had missed performing for fans. “It’s so good to be back…man, it’s been six months, and that’s too long,” Strait said in greeting the sold-out crowd of 51,132 before teasing what was in store over the next two hours. 
 
“We got some new stuff, too, I’m gonna throw in throughout the night, because I broke down and did another record, and I’m gonna play a few of those for you tonight,” Strait shared two songs in, playing the first-of-three, “Three Drinks Behind,” from his forthcoming album while also revealing the new studio album will be titled Cowboys and Dreamers.
 
It was a night of connection for all the cowboys and dreamers in the crowd, too. During “Check Yes or No” a couple got engaged while surrounding fans captured the moment, sharing in their celebration. And before “How ‘Bout Them Cowgirls,” Strait remarked, “I always like seeing some cowboys in the crowd because that means cowgirls are nearby.” Pausing briefly after to share that the next song was written by his longtime manager, Erv Woolsey, a cowboy himself who recently passed, Strait shared, “I miss you, Erv.”
 
“We always like to do songs from our old heroes that have passed on and finally got this one down (recorded) and gonna do it now live, this is ‘Waymore’s Blues,’” he offered halfway through his 32-song set.
 
Stapleton joined the Texan mid stride on “Pancho and Lefty,” staying onstage for “You Don’t Know What You’re Missing,” an album cut he penned for Strait’s Love Is Everything, and revealing their first-ever collaboration, “Honky Tonk Hall of Fame,” on Strait’s forthcoming album. 
 
Retired Lt. General Leroy Sisco introduced Retired US Army Private Issac Boshi in a poignant moment on stage presenting a new home to the hero noting it was his 113th home presentation with Strait via Military Warriors Support Foundation’s Homes 4 Wounded Heroes Program. 
 
Saturday was Strait’s first show back after devastating losses to his touring family including his longtime manager, Woolsey, Ace in the Hole member Gene Elders and tour manager, Tom Foote, Strait took the opportunity to acknowledge their absence throughout the evening. “The last couple of months have been a tough time… music makes it all better. Thank you for coming out - we’ve had a great time tonight. This one is for Erv, and Gene and Tom,” before concluding with a six-song encore.

Preeminent black metallers Mayhem ready their newest live strike with Daemonic Rites for Century Media. The 16-track effort captures the frightful efficiency and utter lethality of the Norwegians as they close the chapter on their exalted sixth album, Daemon (2019). Throughout Daemonic Rites, Mayhem impressively nail newer tracks like “Falsified and Hated,” “Malum,” “Bad Blood,” and “Voces Ab Alta” to the proverbial cross, while offering pure fucking mastery of classics like “Freezing Moon,” “Buried by Time and Dust,” “Deathcrush,” and “Carnage.” The devilish quintet also add mid-career haunts like “To Daimonion,” “Symbols of Bloodswords,” and “My Death,” making Daemonic Rites a genuine career-spanning offering.

“We wanted to document how great the band and set sounds like after almost 40 years of playing live,” says founding member Necrobutcher. “As a treat to our fans, we decided to release this live recording.”

“We released the live version of De Mysteriis [aka De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Alive] a few years ago,” Ghul adds. “That was received very well. We have been playing together for so long now with this lineup that we feel we have reached a point where we are a seriously well-oiled machine. It seemed like a natural step to try to capture this moment in the band’s history, with the same setlist we have been using for a while.”

Mayhem have nearly 1,000 shows to their name. Since their formation Langhus, Norway in 1984, the band—now comprised of Necrobutcher (bass), Hellhammer (drums), Attila Csihar (vocals), Teloch (guitars), and Ghul (guitars)—have brought their brand of bellicose, preternatural black metal to over 60 countries. From the United States and Germany to Australia and Brazil, Mayhem have stunned, bewildered, and turned rabid a global legion, dedicated as much to the band’s infamous legacy as they are staunchly in support of Daemon. Much of that respect and devotion started in the early ‘90s, but persisted to the present day on the strength of official live albums Live in Leipzig (1993), Mediolanum Capta Est (1999), Live in Marseille 2000 (2001) and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Alive (2016). Mayhem continue their on-stage assault with Daemonic Rites.

“I knew from day one back in 1984 that this band was going to be outstanding—one of the best bands ever!” Necrobutcher says. “I guess that’s a big reason why we still are here after 39 years—and counting.”

“Well, for the first time in a long time, we felt again like a unit, musically,” continues Hellhammer. “That’s something we haven’t felt in a long time, and that shows in the live recording.”

Daemonic Rites wasn’t pre-planned. Rather, they had sound engineer/producer Tore Stjerna (of Necromorbus Studio fame) record everything—just for posterity, in fact—during the group’s Northern Ritual MMXXII and Thalassic Ritual tours of 2022 and early 2023. Mayhem and Stjerna pilfered the gems, resulting in gigs from London (“Life Eternal,” “Malum”), Manchester (“My Death,” “Silvester Anfang”), and Gothenburg (“Pure Fucking Armageddon,” “To Daimonion”) coming out on top. The penultimate Mayhem live album wouldn’t be complete without “Freezing Moon” and “Pagan Fears”—both from Csihar’s hometown of Budapest, Hungary—as well as newer tracks “Falsified and Hated” and “Bad Blood” from Sydney and Melbourne, respectively. Daemonic Rites showcases the two-time Norwegian Grammy (aka Spellemannprisen) winners at the pinnacle of their live potential.

“We play the songs that feel the best live,” Hellhammer says. “We have in the past tried out a lot of different songs from former eras, but when you play live for an audience, the songs must have IT. If they don’t, even if they are good songs, they won’t fit in a live setting.”

Adds Teloch: “We have a vast catalog by now with so many different types of songs. It’s interesting to make them all work together in a full concert.”

Daemonic Rites comes off the heels of Mayhem’s incredible Beyond the Gates 2022 performance, where they uncaged cult classic De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas not far from where it was originally recorded by Eirik ‘Pytten’ Hundvin (Enslaved, Emperor, Immortal) in Grieghallen during 1992/1993. The live album, however, was mixed and mastered over in neighboring Sweden. Stjerna, who also assisted with Daemon, took the phantasmagoric collection of tracks to his lair at Necromorbus Studio, where his sole job was to preserve Mayhem’s raw, unbridled energy and ghastly electricity. From “Falsified and Hated” and “My Death” to “Buried by Time and Dust” and “Carnage,” they’ve never had the quality of a live album quite like Daemonic Rites. If the past is always alive, this is a live album on par with Venom’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Emperor’s Emperial Live Ceremony, and Gorgoroth’s Black Mass Krakow 2004.

“It fits with where we are now, or more precisely, where we were at the time of the recording,” says Hellhammer.

“[The live recordings] capture the spirit and energy,” furthers Ghul, “of where we are as a band right now.”

Indeed, Mayhem have been and continue to operate at a level not yet witnessed. While atavists will always relish the Deathcrush or Live in Leipzig lineups, Hellhammer’s drum performance against the twin terrors of Teloch and Ghul is the purest black magic on Daemonic Rites. Similarly, Csihar’s hair-raising caterwauling and spectral snarls atop Necrobutcher’s seventh-hell low end is witching-hour great! To support Daemonic Rites, Mayhem have videos for Daemon-era masterpiece “Malum” and late-‘80s Killjoy dedication “Chainsaw Gutsfuck” lined up. Daemonic Rites is the perfect guillotine while the group craft new songs and conspire with others on what the group’s 40th Anniversary next year might entail. Mayhem are likely in their final form, and they’ve never been deadlier.

Leading up to today's release, the band shared "Weird, But Not Illegal" and "Not Immediately Life Threatening". Speaking about "Bonus Ambulance" and the video, Party Cannon bassist Clankenstein commented:

“Blastbeats. You love them, we’ve got them. Death metal has evolved beyond the need for songs without them. This is one of the most punishing, guttural songs we’ve ever written. And by ‘punishing’, I mean punishing ourselves because this song is an absolute nightmare to play. Lots of BRODEQUIN and DISGORGE vibes on this one with an unhealthy dose of the most intelligence-void slam riffs and pitch-shifted LDOH style vocals. If you didn’t need to shower before then you will after hearing this, because it is rancid."

“The video was filmed at a graveyard in Bo’ness, Scotland and features an evil cult summoning the anti-Party Slam demon played by our good friend and long time collaborate Hamish Maguire who you may know from the bands LACERATION, OMNIPOTENT HYSTERIA and INIQUITOUS SAVAGERY. We really get what’s coming to us in this video, we’ve been guilty of ruining death metal for a while now and it’s about time someone summoned a bodybuilding demon to deal with us. As with the previous videos, this was produced and directed by our guy Calum McMillan and features SFX work by Katie Cooper and Bailey from Scapegoat.”

A KILLER'S CONFESSION, newly signed to MNRK HEAVY, have shared their second single.

Today, they drop the video for "Martyr." Watch it Below. 

"'Martyr' is the second step into the lore of Victim 1," the band says. "This song is the embodiment of acceptance of who you are and what you have to do. Tossing aside what others might think of your actions knowing in the end, it really doesn't matter what anyone thinks."

Regarding the accompanying video, AKC say, "The video for 'Martyr' is the idea of how soldiers from The Crusades will go to church to ask for penance for their actions. The scenery of a simpler time and the camaraderie between the knights says it all. "What we do is for the greater good.'"

After three seminal albums with Mushroomhead, Reavis retreated from music, only for it to draw him back in 2016. He resurfaced at the helm of A Killer's Confession, delivering three cult favorite albums — Unbroken [2017], The Indifference of Good Men [2019], and Remember [2021]. Along the way, the band tallied tens of millions of streams in addition to collaborating with everyone from Brian "Head" Welch of Korn and Love And Death to Chad Gray of Mudvayne and HELLYEAH. “Most of "Always Watching You" was written in a practice space by Jesse and Krissy, and refined during soundchecks we had over the year," offers Escuela Grind vocalist Katerina Economou . "I've had this desire to write a song where I could portray the obsessive-stalker-girl archetype through lyrics for a while. Although not physically threatening, it's really interesting that society is so terrified of this stereotype. In "Always Watching You", I wanted this fantastical, Nightmare on Elm Street-style imagery that was rooted in the gore and horror of death metal. Themes of parasocial relationships, anxieties from social media, and an omnipresent algorithm are strongly observed in this song and throughout the entire album."

FUMING MOUTH DEBUT NEW SINGLE "DAYLIGHT AGAIN" AHEAD OF UPCOMING TOUR

Acclaimed New England death metal band FUMING MOUTH has released a new single, ‘Daylight Again,’ in anticipation for their upcoming US Tour with August Burns Red and festival performances at Welcome To Rockville and Sonic Temple.

The furious new death-sludge track was produced with Kurt Ballou (Full Of Hell, Code Orange, Nails) at GodCity Studios during the band’s Last Day of Sun recording session and is part of the critically acclaimed record’s concept of perseverance, survival and resurrection inspired by vocalist/guitarist Mark Whelan’s battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The single features artwork by sci-fi/fantasy legend Bruce Pennington and is accompanied by the b-side track ‘Timeless,’ an alternate version of ‘Out of Time’ from Last Day of Sun.

Commenting on the new track, Whelan says:

“‘Daylight Again’ expresses that the future is bright. It got so dark for the band behind the scenes. We had so many friends die, so many issues. It felt like it would never end.

The song was supposed to be the final track on our album Last Day of Sun but it didn’t fit on the vinyl so we threw it in the vault. It feels appropriate that a song called “Daylight Again” finally gets to see the light of day.”

A fiery, resurrected rage barrels its way out of hell’s erupting chasms with blistering fury; Fuming Mouth has returned. Lead singer, guitarist, and founder Mark Whelan emerges triumphant after a life-threatening battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, rekindling the inferno of their music with Fuming Mouth's second full-length album, Last Day of Sun.

What initially began as a full-on, fictional concept album underwent a profound transformation into a concept-reality hybrid, largely influenced by Whelan's harrowing conflict with his health and anear brush with death. Just three weeks away from recording the album, Whelan was struck with a devastating cancer diagnosis. While bravely fighting the illness, he rewrote melodies, drum sections, and lyrics, infusing the music with his personal journey of struggle and hope.

The recording sessions began in October 2022, with Grammy Award winning Kurt Ballou of Converge at his studio, God City, in Salem, Massachusetts. Ballou reached out to Whelan after his battle with cancer and encouraged him to get back to their previously scheduled recording session. Working closely with Ballou in both engineering and production, the band found a wonderful and collaborative experience, as Ballou invested himself wholeheartedly in shaping their sound and vision. Salem itself also helped shape the album, as the Halloween Season had begun. Droves of tourists and residents mixing with people in costume made the streets of Salem seem like Last Day of Sun had come to life. The city where the Witch Trials took place presented the perfect setting for the album to be recorded.

At the genesis of this record, there was no other artist that could have captured the album's essence better than Mariusz Lewandowski, with whom the band had already established a creative relationship through his work on the cover art of The Grand Descent. Tragically, Mariusz passed away while working on the album artwork, presenting the band with an immense obstacle to overcome. In tribute to his spirit and legacy, they joined forces with the talented artist Stefan Todorovic who crafted an evocative album cover depicting a Faustian city crumbling amidst the gray and sandy storms of the apocalypse. A colossal monster blocks the sun and hovers above the city as it burns, smoky buildings topple to the ground; all a visual representation of the chaos and darkness that permeates the album.

In the end, Fuming Mouth stands resilient, a testament to the indomitable human spirit. Amidst the carnage and depression lies a flicker of hope - a beacon of light that emanates from within.

Daryl Hall Set to Release ‘D,’ His Sixth Solo Album, First In 13 Years, Co-Produced by Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart, June 21

Daryl Hall will release his sixth solo album, D, on Virgin Music on June 21, co-produced by one-time Eurythmics member and fellow Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Dave Stewart, who co-wrote seven of the nine new original songs with Hall penning the other two on his own.

D marks Hall’s sixth solo album, and first since 2011’s Laughing Down Crying on Verve Records. In 2022, Hall released BeforeAfter, featuring a 30-song compilation of all his solo work, from 1980’s Robert Fripp-produced Sacred Songs through 1986’s Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine, 1993’s Soul Alone, 1996’s Can’t Stop Dreaming and Laughing Down Crying.

A tour du force of empowerment in the face of a less than stand-up paramour, “Wranglers” burns like heatwaves in the desert – and announces the next wave of the maverick groundbreaker’s creative sojourn. With tart vocals and electric barbed wire guitars turned up, the slow broil churn seizes on the slow death of love, the callousness of men who won’t see and the strength of a woman who sets destiny in motion and survives in its wake.
 
“‘Wranglers’ is a classic tale of a woman taking her power back,” Lambert says of the sizzling post-Outlaw classic. “I think we can all identify with the character in this song, because we have all had a time in our life where we needed to find our strength, and also get a little revenge on someone who did us wrong or hurt us. Working with fellow Grammy-winning songwriter/producer Jon Randall, they convened a band of iconic musicians at Austin’s storied Arlyne Recording Studios. Given Lambert’s passion for songs that cut straight into the gut, they created a sonic vista where consequences feel palpable; where Jedd Hughes and Ethan Ballinger’s electric guitar convergence is as fraught as the fevered clouds of B-3 from Texas legend Bukka Allen. With Rachel Loy’s bass lumbering across Conrad Choucroun’s sticks-on-the-rims drum part, pressure builds as Lambert’s siren’s cry pulls listeners in. 1349 is AURAL HELLFIRE. That has been, and continues to be, the primary concept since the band first rose from the ashes of Alvheim in 1997. Conceived around the founding members - vocalist and former drummer Ravn, guitarist Tjalve, and Seidemann on bass - 1349 completed their line-up with the addition of guitarist Archaon in 1999 and SATYRICON drum-legend Frost in 2001.

When their debut Liberation was unleashed in 2003, the Norwegians took the world by storm with their intense blend of old school black metal soundscapes and ultra-fast aggression. Further assaults followed in rapid succession. Beyond the Apocalypse (2004) and Hellfire (2005) cemented the band's reputation as one of the strongest acts in the scene.

Upon the departure of founding member Tjalve, who decided to focus on his band PANTHEON I, 1349 have since continued as a four-piece – occasionally adding guest guitarists. Extensive touring aided the growth of their now massive following when the four piece opened for reunited metal legends CELTIC FROST in North America in 2006.

Impressively demonstrating that holding true to the principles of the genre do not mean nostalgia and stagnation, 1349 widened their sonic palette with Revelations of the Black Flame (2009), which was co-mixed by CELTIC FROST mastermind Tom Gabriel "Warrior" Fischer. This inspired a newfound ambient darkness from the band, which was further explored on Demonoir (2010).

Massive Cauldron of Chaos (2013) was the next milestone in the Norwegians merciless advance, scoring excellent reviews and a nomination for a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen). The release sparked more festival shows as well as extensive touring, bringing 1349 to Australia and New Zealand. In 2018, the Munch Museum and Innovation Norway chose 1349 as one of four bands to create a song based on the paintings of Edvard Munch. As a result, the single Dødskamp was released earlier this year.

After performing a fiery show at Norway’s Inferno festival this year, 1349 started recording in Amper Tone studios and Studio Nyhagen with engineer Jarrett Pritchard. Thus, The Infernal Pathway was born, a sonic parallel to summoning and unleashing the beast of the abyss in all its fearsome, ferocious and powerful splendor.

Now, in 2024, the Norwegian black metal titans 1349 are readying themselves to bring AURAL HELLFIRE across the US in May & EU in October. With these rituals, they bring the fiery Ash of Ages, marking new things to come...

BEWITCHER Kicks Off North American Tour

Black magick metal masters Bewitcher will be "manifesting darkness" in the U.S. and Mexico starting tomorrow, May 4 with a set at Omega Fest 24 in Berkeley, CA! The band will then stop in Hollywood before making their way to Mexico for a headlining run! Upon the tour's conclusion, Bewitcher will the link up with fellow Portland-based occultists UADA for "The Shadows Return" tour, which will lay waste upon the states starting on May 14 in Salt Lake City, UT until the final stop on May 28 in Sacramento, CA. For a taste of Bewitcher's blistering live set, the band recently shared the vicious performance video for the song, "Our Lady of Speed!" Directed and edited by Nate Souza, the clip was shot in front of a SOULED OUT hometown crowd and can be found at THIS LOCATION.

"'Break the Rules' explores the exchange between two different personalities and the prospect of living life to its fullest," the band shares. Bodysnatcher Release "Human Disdain" Music Video via MNRK Heavy

Heavy Floridian quartet Bodysnatcher have released their latest track and music video "Human Disdain", the final culmination of the story which began in last week's release, "Severed". The tracks can be found on the band's upcoming EP 'Vile Conduct', recently released on vinyl for Record Store Day and will drop digitally on September 3 (via MNRK Heavy). Speaking about "Human Disdain", Bodysnatcher's Kyle Carter commented:

“‘Human Disdain’ is a song that talks about our inner demons as a collective species. We are capable of incredibly complex emotions, and unfortunately that brings in a long list of terrible thoughts and feelings that a lot of us act on and make the world a worse place. The track speaks for itself and is very to the point lyrically.”

On one hand, never before has humanity had the depth and breadth of connectivity that our increasingly networked world can afford us. On the other hand, in our infinite search for purpose, we’ve self-segregated into islands of seemingly arbitrary but precise distinctions.

Dressed in our tribal garbs, drunk off petty authority, comfortably smug in our circle jerks, posturing in our personal panopticons, we urge each other to repent at the feet of our flavor-of-the-month god. If the alternative is being “cringe” – tantamount to being banished to a lesser island or cast into the sea – surrender doesn’t really require second-guessing, but it does come at a steep cost: your self. The weak are those who recoil and shrink away from their screaming soul at the behest of the peanut gallery, only to be defanged, neutered, and lobotomized. The strong are those with the will to raze it all and the resolution to build anew atop the ashes, which we affectionately refer to as “violent art”.

“Charade” is cringecore. It’s avant-garde. It’s post-post-hardcore. It’s acid jazz. It’s K-Pop. It’s prog rock. It’s an anime opening. It’s neo metal. It’s an overture heralding the arrival of a sui generis cycle. It’s a bridge that we’ve built across a few of those aforementioned islands. The postmodern condition has relegated Sincerity, Love, and Beauty to vestiges of a bygone era, and, in their stead, Cynicism, Irony, and Ugliness abound. In this profound, suffocating darkness and loneliness, this song is our proposal for a vibe shift – a bullet through the skull of Nihilism. This is our love letter to you.

Uninhibited by convention in any capacity, Omerta is beholden to nothing but the extent of their boundless imagination. Case in point, their video for ‘Charade’ with collaborator Miyashita Yuu reimagines both the appropriate visual medium for alternative music and, inversely, the appropriate soundtrack to score an original anime production.

As many of their contemporaries continue to grapple with their identity in the clutches of increasing homogeneity and waning ingenuity, Omerta challenges the very notion of “alternative”. They forgo pandering to the style du jour and disregard cheap nostalgia bait entirely, instead offering a compelling, bleeding-edge vision as a bold, antifragile declaration of the future. To this end, they offer us their “violent art”

ABOUT OMERTA

Veiled in an impenetrable mystique true to their namesake, Omerta is as obscure as they are defiant. Despite their limited catalog,Omerta's brief lifespan has garnered a dedicated, cult-like following. The lineup consisting of Houston natives Gustavo Hernandez(vocalist), Han Kim (guitarist and vocalist), Carlos Pertuz (guitarist), Justin Zorn (bassist), and Daniel Garcia (drummer) deceptively resembles a 90’s pop quintet more than a metal band, but it seems like Omerta is already aware of that, even dubbing themselves “America’s Most Hated Boy Band”.

Their debut EP Hyperviolence, produced and co-written by Vincente Void, was released in February 2020 – a cacophonous opening salvo for both the band and a global pandemic that'd shape Omerta's future from their very inception. As the name suggests, Hyperviolence introduced the band's signature, in-your-face blend of metallic hardcore, rap, post-hardcore, math rock, emo, and grindcore.

Omerta continued to push the envelope in February 2021 with their chaotic single "i luv u 2" – another collaboration with producer and songwriter Vincente Void. With an active commitment to their local scene, busy tour schedule (opening for acts such as Loathe, Lil Darkie, and Knocked Loose), and a number of festival appearances under their belt, Omerta showed no signs of slowing down. 

Fate would have it that the "nu metal godfather", producer Ross Robinson (Slipknot, Korn, Glassjaw) and the pioneering, "genrefluid" artist Ghostemane discovered Omerta in an encounter that seems closer to prophecy than chance. Sharing Omerta's disaffection with industry malpractice and maladaptation, their collective commitment to, and reverence for, art above all cultivated a partnership that sought to circumvent the obsolete standards of yesteryear. After enlisting Bill Armstrong of SideOneDummy Records fame to round out their team, newly-formed Blowed Out Records would be the Trojan horse delivering the band's dangerous art past the DIY glass ceiling and beyond.

In 2023, the band released their first new song in over 2 years: “Antiamorous”. Also produced and co-written by Vincente Void, the track saw the band revisiting their hyperviolent bag of tricks with the addition of some new and unexpected twists.

Now, with brand new single “Charade”, the band push these boundaries even further, leaving the door open for absolutely anything to come on their much-anticipated, yet-to-be-announced sophomore EP. 

Ross Robinson has referred to the band as the “next generation”. Omerta’s ambition has certainly earned them this nomination, and it’s apparent that they fully intend to live up to it – razing anything and anyone that stands in the way of the accelerationist philosophy underpinning the band’s raison d'être, affectionately and appropriately called “violent art”.
