Octavian Winters joined by electronic music icon Mark Pistel (Consolidated, Meat Beat Manifesto) on new 'Nebula / Velveteen' release

"A dark and lush tapestry of near-classic post-punk, oscillating between shadow and shimmer. Reflecting the troubled times that we live in, sublime dark sonic delight" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Feels like it was recorded in a studio deep beneath the earth, drawing power from subterranean caves and bubbling magma... tectonic thunder... Such power, strong and true, a voice that scales the wall of sound beneath her with ease" ~ Joyzine

"A dark musical weave forged of post-punk and gothic strands. A sonic web of pulsing bass grooves and shaded ethereality, dark and delicious guitar slashes and haunting sound washes" ~ The Big Takeover

"Seriously compelling incitement, which Aursjoen’s tones and the electronically atmospheric mists around her only escalate"
~ Ringmaster Review

San Francisco post-punk outfit Octavian Winters has teamed up with Mark Pistel (Consolidate, Meat Beat Manifesto) on their new two-track single. Out April 30 via Stratis Capta Records, the A-side 'Nebula', which underscores the inevitable impermanence of all that is seen and unseen, known and unknown, is complemented by Pistel's infectious pulsating remix of 'Velveteen'.

Formed in 2022, Octavian Winters is guitarist Stephan Salit (Thrill of The Pull), drummer Randy Gzebb (Thrill of The PullLove Club), bassist Jay Denton and Ria (Amenti) Aursjoen on vocals and keyboards. Together, they weave their visceral and ethereal sound into a texture all its own – of stories once told but half-remembered, under a dusk of shadows and stars, in an abandoned city under the winter moon.

A producer, engineer, programmer, remixer and songwriter active in the electronic music scene since the 80s, Mark Pistel is perhaps best known as a founding member of the band Consolidated and contributing member of Meat Beat Manifesto since 1997. From his own Room 5 studio, he has worked with The Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Grace Jones, Therapy?, MC 900 Foot Jesus, Machines of Loving Grace, Hector Zazou, Mark Stewart, Lee Scratch Perry, Cabaret Voltaire's Stephen Mallinder and Fishbone's Angelo Moore.

Pistel explains, "Randy Gzebb called me about remixing one of the tracks off 'The Line or the Curve' EP. I was excited to do so, as we'd recorded some of these vocals at my Room 5 Studio in San Francisco. I chose to do 'Velveteen' as I already loved the track with its fantastic vocal melody and Stephan's unstoppable guitar hook! I  took on the track with pulsing analog synths and a slamming dance floor beat for the clubs."

Octavian Winters also present their new video for 'Nebula', created by filmmaker David Kruschke, who also produced the band's most recent video for the original version of 'Velveteen'. Both songs were lifted from the band's debut EP 'The Line or Curve', released in October 2023, following videos for 'Undertow', 'Ondine' and 'Surreal'.

"Nebula began as an experiment. I was trying to pin down the concept of the song in my head lyrically for a while and just knew it felt very “big”, even apocalyptic in a way. I kept envisioning a sort of “last day at the end of the world” — what would the sky look like? Would we know and understand what was happening? There is this broadly Gnostic idea of the universe as unfolding and unfolding through what are called Aeons, essentially levels of manifestation, until we get this world we live in here," says Ria Aursjoen

"I imagined this world reaching the fullness of its life, that whole cycle ending — and then everything reversing, refolding back to the start to make way for the next universe. There is a lot of esoteric symbology referenced in this song for those out there who like that sort of thing. The incredible thing about symbolic language is that it can have so many levels of meaning depending on the viewer/listener. I am sure I will understand my own words to this in new ways, in the future."

Drawing from darkwave and post-punk traditions, Octavian Winters dives into the ethereal, their layered music counterpointing edged grooves alongside lush synth textures and soaring vocal harmonies.

Randy Gzebb explains, "We were discussing what song idea we should work on next during the writing process and Ria brought in the demo of Nebula. We listened once and started playing it at rehearsal and after a couple of takes, everyone had their parts locked down. I started to play with the Tom groove and tried to make it powerful, but still leave some space for the track to breathe. The rhythm and tempo set the overall tone and emotional mood of the song, with guitar and pulsating bass creating a haunting atmosphere with powerful vocal lines".

'The Line or Curve' EP was recorded in San Francisco byMark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto, Consolidated) at OW Studio and Room 5 Recording, the band produced this EP withWilliam Faith (The Bellwether Syndicate, Faith and the Muse, Christian Death, The March Violets), who also mixed and mastered it at13 Studioin Chicago.

Over the years, members of Octavian Winters have shared the stage with many iconic acts, includingNine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Lords of the New Church, Savage Republic, Christian Death, The Frozen Autumn, Everything Goes Cold and Black Tape for a Blue Girl.

As of April 30, 'Nebua / Velveteen (Mark Pistel Remix)' is available digitally from fine music platforms, including via Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp, where 'The Line or Curve' EP is also available. The band's next concert is on Friday, July 26 at San Francisco's DNA Lounge - they headline with Halou and Sword Tongue as support.

Cold Years release third album ‘A Different Life’

Following on from “Paradise,” a politically charged look at life in their hometown of Aberdeen, and 2022’s soaring follow up “Goodbye To Misery,” Cold Years return in 2024 with their most triumphant record yet, ‘ A Different Life,' an album manages to make sense of a world that’s lost most of it.

‘A Different Life  features singles “Roll With It”, a song that boasts one of the most infectious choruses rock music has heard in recent years, “Radio”, a joyously melancholy track about leaving the small town you grew up in, “Choke” an incisive invective about the current political state of the UK plus choice album cuts incl. “Sick”, an epic power ballad that focuses on Gordon’s troubles with insomnia and the negative thoughts about himself that arise from it, “Low” a moody rocker that gives any Green Day song on American Idiot a run for its money & more.

“This is the first time I’ve ever come out of a studio able to listen to the tracks, where—and I say this 100% with conviction—we went in and did everything we wanted to do and more,” says Gordon. “I’ve always come out feeling like we could have done something better or different. But this album changed the game for all of us as a band. We tried to make things a little different. That happened naturally, and it’s the most musical experience I’ve ever had”

Recorded at The Barber Shop Studios, New Jersey by producer Brett Romnes ( Hot Mulligan, Boston Manor, Heart Attack Man, Brand New ) & mastered by Rogue Planet Mastering ( Against The Current, A Day To Remember, The Bronx ), ‘A Different Life’ is packed with songs that are both intensely personal and universally relatable.

DYLAN SCHNEIDER IS GOOD AT MAKING BAD DECISIONS WITH NEW EP AVAILABLE NOW

“Country Music’s Next Rising Star” (Billboard), Dylan Schneider “is proving to be all gas, no brakes in 2024” (Taste of Country) today releasing his latest EP, Bad Decisions, ahead of his Stagecoach Festival debut performance this Sunday, April 28. Finding “storylines that make country music listeners go wild is his superpower,” and the BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville singer-songwriter “not only lives up to his hitmaker status, but he exceeds it” (All Country News). Listen now Below.

“This is my favorite batch of songs that I have ever released,” says Schneider. “Bad Decisions shares my vision of where I’m heading creatively and sonically. I have a lot of different influences ranging from hip-hop to R&B to country, and with this EP, I’m able to explore all of that. This is also my first project where I co-wrote every single song, so I’m excited to play these out on the road for y’all and see what you think!

Featuring his viral songs “Ain’t Missin’ You” and title track “Bad Decisions” that PopCulture demanded to “PLAY IT LOUD,” the six-track project includes new songs “Carhartt,” “Ruin This Town” and “Buy That Girl A Beer” that are sure to catapult his already viral resume.

After posting a snippet of a sharp-witted chorus on TikTok, the sound went viral, racking up over 156M TikTok views, 182k user-generated TikTok videos, 55M on-demand streams and 1M YouTube views, climbing to #3 on TikTok’s Country playlist and securing placement on viral-song charts. Seeing the incredible response, Schneider immediately went back to the writing room to finish the spit-fire track – “Ain’t Missin’ You.” Boasting wily lyrics and an electric hook, the feisty song finds the “Artist to Watch” (Amazon Music, Pandora, Taste of Country) continuing to “expand the bounds of his artistry” (American Songwriter) and lean into MusicRow’s “Next Big Thing” prediction.

Continuing to strongly connect, having already amassed over 3.8M TikTok views, 26,000 filter creates, 5,000 user-generated TikTok videos and 7.3M streams, Schneider gave into fan-demand again with the sultry track “Bad Decisions.” Seduced by a magnetic connection with an ex, the seductive song follows a couple who just can’t help but give into temptation.

Filling out the rest of the project, Schneider delivers his most-vulnerable song to date with the autobiographical “Daddy Drinks Whiskey” that “takes one of country music’s drinks of choice and turns it into a personal story he’s finally ready to share” (American Songwriter). While the stadium-ready, supercharged anthem "Ruin This Town” showcases his “rapid-fire singing style” (Billboard), the  live-in-the-moment reminder of ballad “Buy That Girl A Beer” puts his eclectic vocals and lyrical growth on full display. Finally, the insanely catchy, witty and vibrant groove of “Carhartt” flows with an unforgettable, anthemic beat about a girl who got away that's sure to be his next viral song of summer.

At only 24-years-old, Schneider has amassed a social-media following of 1.8M + fans, banked over 350M on-demand streams, and has toured alongside superstars like Florida Georgia Line, Morgan Wallen, Scotty McCreery, Nate Smith and more. Next up, Schneider joins Kane Brown on his “In The Air” Tour.

About Dylan Schneider:

Drawn to the storytelling aspects of country music, Dylan Schneider started performing and writing songs at the age of 14, after meeting Brett Eldredge and singing with him on-stage during a concert. After that, he began posting videos to his Facebook page, where he’d cover popular Country songs, gaining a devoted online following. Since then, Schneider has made a name for himself in the Country music community, forging a sound that merges modern pop sensibilities with a down-home feel. He’s been named a “Breakthrough Artist to Watch” by Amazon Music, an “Artist to Watch” by Pandora, Taste of Country and Sounds Like Nashville and declared “Country Music’s Next Rising Star” by Billboard. He’s toured with Florida Georgia Line, Morgan Wallen, Kane Brown, Scotty McCreery, Dan + Shay and more, co-wrote Dustin Lynch’s Top 5 hit song “Momma’s House,” scored two RIAA-certified Gold records, accumulated over 1.8M social media followers and banked an upwards of 350M on-demand streams (and counting). Signed to BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville, the MusicRow-praised “Next Big Thing” just released his latest EP, Bad Decisions, April 26, before making his Stagecoach Festival debut performance. Embracing his irresistible rock-n-roll edge and unrestrained pop-country swagger that gained him over 500,000 social media followers in just a few months, the upcoming six-track EP features his viral hits “Ain’t Missin’ You” and “Bad Decisions.” Kicking off 2024 on Nate Smith’s “World On Fire” Tour, next up, Schneider will join Kane Brown on his “In The Air” Tour this fall.

"
Black Tusk's combination of sludge, rock, hardcore and death metal remains fluid, fertile and most importantly, full of life" - PitchforkBlack Tusk came roaring out of the Savannah swamplands nearly twenty years ago, but the sludge metal veterans aren't looking back anytime soon. On their seventh album, The Way Forward, the band blaze full steam into the future behind the force of their new yet familiar lineup.

"This record represents our steadfast resolve to keep making music together as a band and evolve our sound", says Andrew Fidler, Black Tusk's longtime guitarist and co-vocalist.

The Way Forward comes out tomorrow, Friday, April 26, but you can hear all 11 hard-hitting tracks today on the Season of Mist YouTube channel.

The Way Forward pulls no punches. Right from the rip, album opener "Out of Grasp" charges head-on to the relentless chop of James May's snare drum. Lead single "Brush Fire" quickly grabs the baton and lights it up like a Molotov cocktail. New bassist Derek Lynch makes one hell of a first impression. "I watch you burn!" he spits, already spewing with righteous fury.

"Derek said he’d never done heavy vocals before, so I was like, ‘Well, here’s the mic. Here’s some words. Yell at it and see if you like it.’", says Fidler. "I was blown away the first time he did it. It sounded good as fuck.”

Black Tusk recorded The Way Forward at Hidden Audio, a studio run by frequent collaborator and now official member Chris "Scary" Adams. Not only did Scary handle the production, but he locks horns with Fidler, making this the band's first album to feature a two guitar attack. On "Dance on Your Grave", Fidler lays down a boot-stomping riff so Scary can rip into a solo that never stops climbing.

Of course, no band makes it 19 years without having to shovel their share of shit. "The big theme of this record is putting your life back together", Fidler says. Black Tusk have switched labels and lost members, all while navigating the bumps in the road that come with being tour musicians. But The Way Forward leaves those past misgivings in the rear view. "Sometimes the worst things you've ever seen or done end up being the best thing that's ever happened to you", May says.

"Breath of Life" opens with murky synths that swirl like a depressive fog, but that's just the quiet before the storm. Over fuming distortion, together, Black Tusk reach for something that sounds close to a silver lining. "Mercy in suffering, all I see", they scream in unison.

“The title is kind of a double play,” Fidler says. “It’s the first record with the new lineup, and this is the direction we’re taking the band in. We’ve been doing Black Tusk for 19 years now, and we still love it. That’s why we called it The Way Forward.”

Black Tusk will then hit the road in May for more shows with fans down south.

“The big theme of this record is putting your life back together.” That’s Black Tusk guitarist/vocalist Andrew Fidler talking about the band’s new album, The Way Forward. “When everything seems like it’s against you, put your head down and push through. Take those bad things that are happening and use them to help create.”

The Way Forward might be the Savannah swamp metal crew’s seventh album, but it marks many firsts for Black Tusk. It’s their first with their new lineup, which sees guitarist Chris “Scary” Adams and bassist Derek Lynch joining Fidler and drummer James May. Which also makes it Black Tusk’s first record with a two-guitar lineup. “We were able to add leads and harmonies and all kinds of stuff on the new record that we haven’t done in the past,” Fidler says. “As far as our records go, this one has the most guitar work.”

You can hear it in the squealing solo of “Dance on Your Grave,” the killer harmonies on ripper “Harness (The Alchemist),” and the glorious dual guitar interplay of the powerful title track.

“‘The Way Forward’ is my favorite song on the record,” Fidler says. “It’s based on a personal experience that everyone can probably relate to. I got divorced in 2020, and I kinda felt like my entire world was collapsing when that happened. But I pulled myself out of it. I realized that this one thing ending in my life isn’t the end of everything. I’m gonna find a way forward. I’m gonna figure out how to live my life and create and be happy and make new relationships. Which is what I’ve done.”

In true Black Tusk fashion, the new lineup has expanded their triple-vocal approach to quadruple. “Everyone is doing vocals,” Fidler says. “That’s always been a thing in Black Tusk. Derek said he’d never done heavy vocals before, so I was like, ‘Well, here’s the mic. Here’s some words. Yell at it and see if you like it.’ I was blown away the first time he did it. It sounded good as fuck.”

That’s Lynch on lead single “Brushfire,” a song for which he wrote the main riffs and lyrical concept. “That was my first real contribution to the band,” the bassist says. “Thematically, I wanted the aggressiveness of the lyrics to keep with the idea of pushing forward even when the world is trying to drag you down. The mood of the lyrics needed to match the pulverizing tempo of the song.”

The lyrics for second single “Dance on Your Grave” were written by May, who moved from Savannah to Athens, GA, in the time since Black Tusk’s last album. “It’s about his struggles through Covid and what this lifestyle can do to people,” Fidler says. “It’s about getting past the party lifestyle and continuing to do things that are creative.”

Meanwhile, “Breath of Life” distills Black Tusk’s lyrical philosophy into a righteous five-minute pummeling. “Scary came up with the main riff of this song, and it’s one of my favorite riffs on the record,” Fidler says. “I wrote the lyrics, and it’s just about darkness crushing everything. The world is a fucked-up place that we have to navigate through. That’s what a lot of Black Tusk songs are about.”

Black Tusk recorded The Way Forward at Adams’ own Hidden Audio studio just outside of Savannah. Adams engineered the album and the whole band produced. “I actually helped him build the studio in the detached garage next to his house,” Fidler explains. “Me and my carpentry company went out there to do it, and Scary helped.”

“We had about 90% of the riffs and song structures going into the studio, while still experimenting with ideas and inspirations,” Adams explains. “Sometimes we completely reworked parts, which made all the difference. For example, early versions of ‘Breath of Life’ and ‘The Way Forward’ are quite different than the record, and I love where they ended up. Though we did use a few effects and synths here and there for texture and space, to me this record still feels raw and powerful. It captures the feeling of being at a Black Tusk show.”

The cover art for The Way Forward was done by Brian Mercer, who also created the sleeve for Black Tusk’s 2018 album, T.C.B.T.T.C.B.T. had a dark cover because it was a dark time for the band,” Fidler says, referring to the period immediately after the passing of their longtime friend and bassist Jonathan Athon. “This time, it’s full blown, full-color Black Tusk. Brian Mercer and James collaborated on the concept, and Brian really knocked it out of the park.”

“The title is kind of a double play,” Fidler says. “It’s the first record with the new lineup, and this is the direction we’re taking the band in. We’ve been doing Black Tusk for 19 years now, and we still love it. That’s why we called it The Way Forward.”

The band also present a new video for 'Never Say Anything (Magic Door Session)'.

A loose treasure-trove of musicians and artists, masterminded by Dave Derby (The Dambuilders, Lloyd Cole) and producer Ray Ketchem (Guided by Voices, Luna, Elk City), Gramercy Arms is inspired by the artistic heyday of ‘70s and ‘80s New York, creating addictive indie pop with exquisite hook-laden melodies and lyrics that will have you floating back in time and remembering your favorite mistake.

With many of the songs recorded during the same sessions for the band’s 2023 'Deleted Scenes' album, 'The Making Of …' is decidedly more of a band album with a looser and more raucous approach featuring live in-studio performances and an even wider array of contributors.

Produced, recorded and mixed by Ray Ketchem at Magic Door Recording in Montclair, NJ, it was mastered by Ketchem and award-winning engineer Greg Calbi (John Lennon, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Tom Petty).

Earlier, Gramercy Arms released 'Never Say Anything', a gorgeously performed paean to paranoid times featuring Lysa Opfer (Aeon Station) and Mark Lizotte (Diesel), and 'After the After Party', a rueful power pop gem about chances missed and taken, featuring longtime collaborators Kevin March (Guided by Voices, The Dambuilders, Shudder to Think), Hilken Mancini (Fuzzy, the Monsieurs), Rainy Orteca (Joan As Police Woman, Dead Air) and Mike Errico.

Both albums are loaded with talent, involving Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Nada Surf, Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha), Sean Eden (Luna), Phoebe Summersquash (Small Factory), Renée LoBue (Elk City, Flowers of America), Kendall Meade (Mascott), Verena Wiesendanger (Semi Gloss), Claudia Chopek (Bright Eyes, The Little River Band, Echo of the Ghost), John Leon (Roky Erickson, Royal Arctic Institute), Rafa Maciejak (Lloyd Cole and the Negatives, Ivy), Jules Verdone, Richard Alwyn-Fisher (King Canutes, The Winter Drinks), Steve Hurley (Gigolo Aunts), Carl Baggaley (Elk City, Royal Arctic Institute), Peter Hess (Phillip Glass Ensemble, Slavic Soul Partyand Gary Burton (Dovedale). 'Deleted Scenes' also involves the legendary Lloyd Cole.

"I initially thought about doing a double album and then decided against it. To me 'Deleted Scenes' and 'The Making Of The Making Of' are companion pieces and part of a larger work. I think of them as two sides of a double album and may release them as a double vinyl album in the future. To me, there is an understated, almost dark horse element to “The Making Of …”  that gives it a special charm. In many ways 'Deleted Scenes' was more of the ‘obvious’ A-tracks, whereas 'The Making Of …' is just more fun. Songs like 'Lux', 'Susan' and 'The Long Game' capture that for me. The fact that the album has 4 different drummers with different feels and approaches has a lot to do with that because it still hangs together," says Dave Derby.

"Even though these songs came from the same sessions, this album was much more of a band record whereas “Deleted Scenes” was more about me and Kevin March building the tracks up together. Many of these songs were live full-band takes. I think that approach shows up in the final versions."

'The Making Of the Making Of' album is out now, available from fine music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. Their record release party takes place on April 26 at Berlin NYC with support from The Gershwin Brothers and the Hilken Mancini Band.

Manchester’s THE SPEED OF SOUND celebrates 35th anniversary by releasing ‘A Cornucopia: Minerva’ album & video for ‘The Great Acceleration’

"Buzzing fuzz guitar lines emerge from a delicate acoustic introduction to intersect with the crashing chords and the ‘bulbous pulsing’ rhythm section" ~ Record Collector Magazine

"Raw and edgy sound with guiding and invigorating sense of melody" ~ The Spill Magazine

“Unmistakeable sound a winning formula” ~ The Big Takeover

“A triumph of industry, imagination and talent, coolly novel and damned addictive” ~ Louder Than War

‘Unique and other worldly” ~ Vive Le Rock

“A form of Art-Pop that is wry, incisive, yet a deeply listenable examination of post industrial culture” ~ Rock At Night

"A riotous maelstrom of musical mayhem” ~ The Manc Review

Manchester indie rock psychonauts The Speed Of Sound presents their new album 'A Cornucopia: Minerva', their second album issued via Big Stir Records, along with the video for 'The Great Acceleration' - the second single from the album, following up 'West Wind'.

Hailing from Manchester, The Speed Of Sound is made up of father and son John Armstrong (guitars and vocals) and Henry Armstrong (keyboards), Ann-Marie Crowley (vocals and guitar), Kevin Roache (bass guitar) and John Broadhurst(drums).

Full of ambition, energy, and eccentric melodic brilliance, this is the first record of the three-album set 'A Cornucopia: Minerva, Victory, Bounty' from these future-retro-modernist garage-psych stalwarts. While these albums will see digital editions over the next year, the Vinyl and CD versions are 3-disc sets carrying the umbrella title 'A Cornucopia'. Released as deluxe editions, each set includes two full-length bonus albums 'Victory' and 'Bounty'. But it all begins with 'Minerva'.

With 'A Cornucopia: Minerva' coinciding with the band’s 35th anniversary, The Speed Of Sound returns triumphant, defiant and redemptive, following up their 2021 critically acclaimed album 'Museum Of Tomorrow'. Named for the goddess associated with wisdom, the arts and strategic warfare, this album explores themes of resistance to mainstream cultural dominance, championing individual identity and artistic creativity whilst being a vigorous musical celebration of subcultural existence in the face of predominantly bland pop culture.

'Minerva' presents 14 fresh and variegated tracks, each one a burst of differently-hued radio friendly sonic technicolor. These new pieces range from the recklessly fast Bo Diddley rhythm successfully merged with a Wagnerian horn section of lead single 'West Wind' to the haunting and spacious ballad critiquing Economic Theory that is 'Trickledown' to the stripped back mediaeval folk-tinged starkness of 'The Harvest' to the stratospheric vastness of 'The Great Acceleration'.

The album passes seamlessly through the acoustic guitar-driven groove of 'SS-100-X',the spacious iridescence of 'Eight Fourteen Monday', the lively ascendence of 'The Party Sniper', the glowing radioactivity metaphor of 'Half Life' to the bright uplifting dementia and identity-loss focused 'Mind Palace'. While the bouncing vibe of 'Bodysnatchers' reminds us to stay awake and not slip into the drabness of normalcy, the crunching melodic punch of 'Clickbait' zings into the typewriter introduction of 'Yet Another Tuesday', onwards to the punkifed rhythm and blues of 'So Faux' and the closing acoustic riot of 'Question Time'.

With their inbuilt eclectic and genre-defying style, The Speed Of Sound expand from their base-camp foundation of multiple 1960s, punk and new wave influences, encompassing wide dynamic and stylistic variation, crossing borders and pushing boundaries at every opportunity while retaining continuity. The music bursts with experimentation whilst retaining hooks and melodic sensibility, plus the sharp barbed wit, lyrical depth and all-pervading sense of joy that form the irrepressible, uplifting hallmarks of this band.

Throughout their 35-year history, The Speed Of Sound have continuously produced music laced with optimism and lyrical bite, tapping the DIY ethos of punk and the restless lust for experimentation of psychedelia. Formed in 1989 with a pre-history dating back to the day Andy Warhol died in 1987, their music has always been idiosyncratic, counter-intuitive and perpetually looking for something new.

As of April 26, 'Minerva' is available in both formats from Big Stir Records via Bandcamp. Even better - dive into the jam-packed triple LP and CD editions of 'A Cornucopia'.

SAXON RELEASE NEW LYRIC VIDEO "WITCHES OF SALEM"

Saxon release the video for “Witches Of Salem”, the forth single from the band’s critically-acclaimed 24th studio album, Hell, Fire And Damnation - out now via Silver Lining Music.

Hell, Fire And Damnation is an album which sees Saxon investigate all areas of history and mystery amidst ten of their most confident and thunderously powerful songs yet. In “Witches Of Salem”, lead singer and founding member Biff Byford, explores the unjust condemnation of the women victimized at the Salem witch trials and the sheer bigotry and mass hysteria prevalent at the time.

“This is an American story, but the witch trials started in Scotland, spread into England and across the sea to the colonies in America. Those poor women in Salem,” explains Byford “they weren’t ‘witches’ more than just unfortunate women really, blamed for everybody’s ailments... whether your horse died, or the milk went sour, they blamed women. Maybe because they were jealous of them, or maybe it was because some guy had made some advances and she’d told him to piss-off, so he’d declare that she was a witch. And once a person was declared a witch, I don’t think there was any way back from that; very few of them were found innocent.”

heaviness and energy. The 10 tracks on the record are leaving not one wish open. Power and fresh welded steel”

“Great, wonderful, admirable melodies interweaved with classic heavy metal attitude. This album doesn’t show any weak spots at all and doesn’t need any quality comparison to Carpe Diem!”
– SLAM MAGAZINE

“Not one weak point on the album! Neither in songwriting nor in sound, neither in composing nor performance! Taking it into
consideration that most of the musicians are in their seventies, you have to bow down with more than respect for this again great energy performance”

– ROCK IT

“‘Hell, Fire And Damnation’ offers everything a Saxon-fan expects from it. And even a bit more”
– AARDSCHOK

– HEADBANGERS LIFESTYLE

“‘Hell, Fire And Damnation’ is one of the strongest albums in Saxon's discography”

– METAL RULES

“Hell, Fire And Damnation is a very satisfying listen that will please Saxon fans of all eras including newbies who are just now getting hip to this beloved band”
– ANTIMUSIC

“Byford’s vocals are powerful and the guitar work is exceptional. Scarratt and Tatler team up with some fresh and exciting solos throughout the record and Glockler’s drumming ability is top notch. In my opinion, this is one of Saxon’s most ambitious albums and proves that they are one of the best British Metal bands of all time”
– BRUTAL PLANET MAGAZINE

“Hell, Fire And Damnation is undeniably Saxon: a band continuing to find ways to expand upon the NWOBHM sound 45 years on. 10 out of 10!”
– DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH METAL

“It is an impossible task to find another Metal band with SAXON's consistency and dedication to the album release-tour cycle while at the same time sounding fresh and inspired. ‘Hell, Fire And Damnation’ gets 9 out of 10 stars!”
– METAL KAOZ

“The NWOBHM is over, but its main core of ideas is still alive: it wasn’t only the rebirth of Metal after a time hidden in the underground, but a whole new way of playing Heavy Metal, a set of conceptions that enables the band to give a step forward in relation of what was done in the early years of the 70s, and that allows the birth of new subgenres into Metal. There are great names, and others that never got the respect they really deserve. One can say that SAXON is a successful name of those years, but these warriors truly deserved more respect and success. One spin on their new album ‘Hell, Fire And Damnation’ states the reason for these words. This is a 10 out of 10 – A MASTERPIECE!”
– METAL TEMPLE

“They deliver on all fronts and it’s an enjoyable ride, something that you want to listen to many times afterward”
– METAL WANI

“Having been a force since the mid-70s, Saxon shows no signs of slowing down. In fact, they radiate unparalleled energy and freshness, courtesy of Biff and Andy Sneap’s colossal crystal-clear production. The performances are nothing short of world- class, the songs destined to become timeless classics. Disregard any dour reviews; this album caters to Saxon fans’ every desire and stands tall as one of their crowning achievements EVER! 10 out of 10 Stars!”
– MY GLOBAL MIND

“Hell, Fire And Damnation is a top-shelf addition to Saxon’s discography; it is a vibrant, powerful statement from a band that has both shaped and transcended the genre. It is a compelling mix of historical and modern evidence of the band’s enduring legacy and ongoing evolution in British heavy metal”
– STACCOTOFY

“Saxon has once again proven that they are experts of their craft, delivering a record that stands tall in their illustrious discography”
– SONIC PERSPECTIVES

“Saxon once again have proven they are a force to be reckoned with, with yet another consistent high quality release. Perhaps a notch above their last two releases”
– THE METAL VOICE

“All in all, Saxon gives us yet another excellent album in Hell, Fire And Damnation. There is no filler on this Record. It is quality metal music from start to finish”
– THE METAL PIT

ASINHELL, Featuring Volbeat's Michael Poulsen, Share "Pyromantic Scryer" Video

For more than 20 years, vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen has been spearheading Danish rock and roll machine Volbeat, releasing eight full-lengths, selling millions of albums, and filling stadiums worldwide. Before fronting Volbeat, however, Poulsen formed death metal band Dominus, which recorded four fast, brutal albums in the mid '90s. When Poulsen was putting together songs for Volbeat's 2021 album, Servant of the Mind, he wrote a bunch of death metal riffs and saved them on his phone. Then, when he was done with the Volbeat record, he reopened the rusty gates to Armageddon and started putting together songs for his new death metal band Asinhell, whose debut album Impii Hora (Latin for "Ungodly Hour"), is a tribute to Poulsen's favorite old-school groups.

Impii Hora was released September 29 via Metal Blade. Get it here.

Today, the band has shared the video for "Pyromantic Scryer." Watch it below.

"'Pyromantic Scryer' was the first song I wrote for the album and it surely has an Entombed vibe, and as I've said before, it was L.G. Petrov who kicked started the birth of Asinhell," says Poulsen.

"Pyromancy is the 'art' of prophecy/augury by any means of fire," says vocalist Marc Grewe. "The song is about a mad man who thinks he can predict the future from fires. Fires he sets himself. In his delusion, he thinks he is a misunderstood messiah. The song can also been seen metaphorical on some things that are going on (and wrong) in the world of  today… a small spark of a mad man (or group/cult) can set the world on fire. I think the video created by Shan Dan shows this dangerous behavior in a quite drastic way!"

Poulsen has rekindled the death metal fire that fueled his first band Dominus. He began jamming on riffs with longtime friend and neighbor, drummer Morten Toft Hansen (Raunchy). The two started playing in Morten's tiny garage: no mics, no P.A. — just a drum kit and a combo amp turned all the way up like they used when they were teenagers. Soon, the pair were completing a new song every time they got together. When it came time to add vocals, Poulsen turned to his good friend, who also happened to be one of his all-time favorite death metal growlers: Marc Grewe (Insidious Disease, ex-Morgoth).

"I had known Michael quite a long time and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project one day, but I never took him too seriously because he was so busy with Volbeat," Grewe says. "Then he called for real and said, 'Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?' Immediately, I was like, 'Yes, of course!'"

With Asinhell fully formed, the three convened with Volbeat producer Jacob Hansen to produce, mix, and play bass on their debut album. When it was time to add lead guitar to the album, Michael looked no further than friend and The Arcane Order axeman Flemming C. Lund.

ASINHELL ARE:
 Michael Poulsen — Guitar
Marc Grewe — Vocals
Morten Toft Hansen — Drums

That they are still roaring and soaring should be no surprise. That’s just how they are built. TESLA may have been born in the mid-80s, but their bluesy, soulful sound is strongly embedded in the roots of organic, authentic, 1970s rock and roll. The same roots that produced bands like Bad Company, Grand Funk Railroad, AC/DC, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith.

The ground started shaking in Sacramento, CA, in 1984; gold country that would soon be producing some platinum. They started out as City Kidd, until a suggested name change to TESLA, honoring the eccentric inventor Nikola Tesla who pioneered all things electrical. Their 1986 platinum debut album, Mechanical Resonance, included Top 40 hits “Modern Day Cowboy” and “Little Suzi.” 1989’s double-platinum The Great Radio Controversy included hits “Heaven’s Trail (No Way Out)” and “Love Song”. Suddenly, TESLA, who had been touring with bands such as Def Leppard and David Lee Roth, earned headlining status. In 1990, TESLA helped reshape the face of modern rock music by stripping down to the Five Man Acoustical Jam, an informal collection of their biggest hits peppered with rock and roll classics by the Beatles, Stones, and others. This album produced their biggest hit single to date, a cover of Five Man Electrical Band’s “Signs.” Other 90s albums from TESLA include platinum selling Psychotic Supper and Bust a Nut. The band continues to record and release material including 9 new albums since 2000.

TESLA’s legacy is alive and well as they continue to record and sellout venues all over the world. As comfortable, rugged, and dependable as your favorite pair of boots, they endure. TESLA is a celebration of the greatest spirits of rock and roll.

“An ode to blue-collar workers that exposes the heart-aching realities of the working class… ‘Forgotten Man’ has more in common with songs such as Hank Williams Jr.’s ‘A Country Boy Can Survive’ than the plethora of poppy, nostalgic anthems out right now, while Shane’s backwoods growl and heartland rock sound sells it hard.”- Billboard on “Forgotten Man"

“The Kentucky singer-songwriter expertly sums up what it means to be blue-collar in the 21st century in this defiant, angry country single that would do Merle Haggard proud.” - Rolling Stone on “Forgotten Man"

"'Jonesin'' puts all of Shane’s talents to the forefront. The country-rock anthem feels honest, dark, and enticing.” - Country Swag on “Jonesin’"

BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville singer/songwriter Elvie Shane today releases his much anticipated sophomore album DAMASCUS, an ode to his artistic evolution and deep-feeling take on country music, available to listen HERE. Drawing inspiration from the Apostle Paul’s transformative biblical story and the hardened beauty of ancient steel, each of the 13 tracks find Shane stepping into the shoes of another, taking pieces of each character he’s met on his journey, and melding them into one beautifully woven work. Shane co-wrote all songs on the project produced by his frequent collaborator, Oscar Charles.

“There’s 13 songs on DAMASCUS, and a lot of piss and vinegar,” said Shane. “It’s the ‘Outside Dog’ in me that drives me to do this. Welcome to that autobiography, I’d like to formally introduce myself.”

The Kentucky native teamed up with Little Big Town for his track “First Place,” raising a glass to the everyday victory of just getting by. Shane’s gruff vocals couple with Little Big Town’s robust and iconic sound to deliver an irresistible, harmony-laden cocktail, with notes of “Boondocks” and Steve Earle. Watch the behind-the-scenes music video showcasing the making of “First Place” with Little Big Town and highlights from The Damascus Album Stories Tour HERE.

Ranging from Appalachian electro-punk to defiant heartland hip-hop, grungy gospel blues and neon ‘90s twang, Shane’s influences collide in DAMASCUS to tell his story – one that countless others have experienced in one way or another. The project kicks off with “Outside Dog,'' a me-against-the-world prideful anthem that sets the tone for his transformational turbulence and ultimately, self-discovery. The track is followed by the moody, gospel-rock “What Do I Know,” a scathing look into a world at odds with itself, while “Jonesin’” soulfully preaches about the weight of always needing more.

The album pivots into a new stage of discovery, with the shadowy, electro-soul pulse of "Baptized" and bittersweet blue-collar anthem “Forgotten Man.” Shane tackles the opioid epidemic with the agonizing “Pill,” and the need for prison reform with high-strung, funky “Appalachian Alchemy” and the weary, identity-stripping “215634.” Hope begins to build thanks to the inspirational message of betting on oneself in “Winning Horse.” The tempo picks up with the keys-driven, honky-tonk fun of “Fan On High,” with a reminder to never take life too seriously and the wild-cat swagger of “Chicken Shit.” Shane’s DAMASCUS journey concludes with the heartland-hymn “Does Heaven Have A Creek,” a track that finally finds peace through reflection of what really matters and what comes next.

About Elvie Shane:
Acclaimed champion of the next blue-collar generation, BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville Records’ Elvie Shane has emerged as a country star with his heart on his sleeve, driven by his unwavering determination to aim for impact. A dynamic project of extremes and deep empathy with a sharp-edged fusion of country, rock, and hip-hop, Shane’s sophomore album DAMASCUS tells the deeply-layered tale of his journey through success, struggle and self-discovery – one that countless others battle with each day. The Kentucky native has won over critics, delivering “an ode to blue-collar workers that exposes the heart-aching realities of the working class,” (Billboard) as the project “further cements Shane as a new voice of the damaged, addicted, and lost in country music,” (Rolling Stone). It was another shared life experience that earned Shane his Platinum-certified Number One debut, “My Boy.” The tender tribute to the unconditional love of stepparents took Shane from a country road to the top of the charts, touring the country’s biggest stages as well as overseas and racked up over 400 million streams and counting. The track helped launch Shane’s debut album BACKSLIDER, which was hailed by critics from Billboard and Rolling Stone to the Nashville Scene and beyond, earning spots on many "Best Of” lists alongside new artist nominations from the ACM Awards, CMT Music Awards and iHeartRadio Music Awards. MY DYING BRIDE | release new single/lyric video 'Her Dominion' + new record 'A Mortal Binding' is out today

British death-doom legends My Dying Bride are proud to announce that their 15th studio album A Mortal Binding has been released today! The Yorkshire based sextet have also revealed their final album single titled 'Her Dominion', which is accompanied by an evocative lyric video created by Tommy Antonini.

My Dying Bride's Andrew Craighan commented,

"The video very closely represents the downward spiral the song itself is portraying. A twisted internal division masquerading as beauty. Enjoy the darkness."

You can now order A Mortal Binding here: https://mydyingbride.bfan.link/a-mortal-binding
Watch the lyric video for 'Her Dominion' below.

A Mortal Binding, the much-anticipated follow-up to The Ghost of Orion (2020) finds the Yorkshire-based quintet delighting in anxiety, loss, and toil to resplendent effect. From the raw distress of 'Her Dominion' and twisted horror of 'Thornwyck Hymn' to the funerary violins of the 11-minute monolith 'The Apocalyptist' and the classic-feeling 'The 2nd of Three Bells', A Mortal Binding is pinnacle My Dying Bride. If Songs of Darkness, Words of Light (2004) elevated the band to new heights and A Map of All Our Failures(2012) expanded upon the group’s mid-tens grandeur, then A Mortal Binding stages My Dying Bride’s next exultant phase of elegiac misery.

My Dying Bride hired The Ghost of Orion studio wizard Mark Mynett to produce, mix, and master A Mortal Binding. The group holed up at Mynett’s Mynetaur Productions(Divine Chaos, Rotting Christ) in Manchester, UK, where they tracked the album consecutively from July to September 2023.

For over three decades, My Dying Bride from West Yorkshire have been the voice of the hopeless and broken, combining haunting sounds with crushing misery and melancholy. With their signature sound they've shaped the doom metal scene like barely any other act and integrated both soft violin melodies and violent death metal growls into their music, whilst always staying strictly loyal to themselves. And since the early Nineties, the band's masterminds and founding members Andrew Craighan and Aaron Stainthorpe forged beautiful grief into studio albums with songs of epic length. As My Dying Bride edge past their 33rd year, they’re aging gracefully, remaining as vital and heart-wrenching as ever. The flower withers once more on My Dying Bride’s new record A Mortal Binding, which is out today!

My Dying Bride are:
Aaron Stainthorpe | vocals
Andrew Craighan | guitars
Lena Abé | bass
Shaun MacGowan | keyboards / violin
Neil Blanchett | guitars
Dan Mullins | drums

FOLTERKAMMER Unveils New Song, "Die Unterwerfung," New Album Out TODAY

Operatic black metal rising stars FOLTERKAMMER are pleased to finally release their sophomore full-length, 'Weibermacht,' which is now available worldwide as of today via Century Media Records! In celebration, the band is sharing the final single from the offering, "Die Unterwerfung," which can be heard below.

Vocalist Andromeda Anarchia comments on the offering, "This song somehow combines everything that is Folterkammer: classical music elements, raw black metal aggression, historical themes, mythology and quotes from European folklore, portraits of cunning and strong women, strong contrasts, and provocation.

"Folterkammer makes classical music, played by a metal band. Not symphonic music with an orchestral sound, more like a chamber music ensemble playing black metal recitals. Or as we call it: torture chamber music.

"The music of 'Die Unterwerfung' is strongly inspired by the classical aesthetics of the Middle Ages. Thematically, this song is about the old and well-known spicy story of Aristotle and Phyllis, which has been told in the southern part of the German-speaking regions since the Middle Ages. Since musicians are also storytellers, we wanted to translate this story into modern times and create a black metal version of it - and thus keep this wonderful old tradition alive.

"What the story is about: The beautiful and charming Phyllis seduces, tricks and humiliates the intellectual, role model figure Aristotle out of revenge in front of an entire court. Aristotle is then exposed to ridicule and disgrace and flees. In a distant land, he meditates on the deceitfulness of female cunning.

"This tale was written by an unknown court poet. It depicts the motif of the wise and powerful man who is seduced, humiliated, and disgraced by a cunning woman. Two German versions are known, the so-called Strasbourg version and the older Benediktbeuren version. We quote small passages from both versions in the intro of this song, immediately after an altered sequence from a popular German nursery rhyme at the very beginning of the intro.

"There are various explanations for the popularity of this motif: one of them is that it is assumed that the depiction was intended to appeal to the public as a warning against the deceptions and temptations of women and was therefore particularly popular in the religious context of the time.

"The motif of the superior woman who seduces, incapacitates and humiliates the wise man has been known in world literature since the 5th century and was particularly popular in Europe from the 13th to the 16th century. It probably came to Europe from the Orient at the time of the Crusades. The term 'Weibermacht' is an official art and cultural-historical term for this motif. The d*minatr*x embodies this female figure to the fullest, which is why we have highlighted her in our 'Weibermacht' album.

"In addition to the textual evidence, this motif was also widespread in the pictorial representations of the late Middle Ages. Depictions have been found on everyday objects such as knife handles, combs, and stove tiles. Sculptures and façade reliefs in various churches and cathedrals have also been documented. In art, a variety of design techniques were used to depict the motif. In addition to sculptures, drawings, copperplate engravings, woodcuts, ivory carvings etc. are also documented. A concrete example is the woodcut 'Weibermacht' (from 1513, by Hans Baldung Grien).

"It is obvious that we have also been influenced by this graphic aesthetics for our album cover, painted by the one and only Eliran Kantor."

'Weibermacht' serves as a counterpart to the band's 2020 debut, 'Die Lederpredigt.' The new record is another searing blend of modern black metal and classical music elements, lending to its Avant Garde sound. The music itself is elevated by frontwoman and vocalist Andromeda Anarchia's dynamic vocal work as she juxtaposes her classical training as an opera singer with her hellfire screams, summoning a maelstrom of ethereal chaos. Pre-orders are now live HERE.

The album artwork for 'Weibermacht' was created by Eliran Kantor

Founded in New York around 2018/2019, Folterkammer, or “Torture Chamber,” is the operatic black metal outfit that is redefining modern music. This ingenious band seamlessly fuses beauty with brutality. A combination of raw passion and technique contributes to the epic nature of Folterkammer’s dark art. Their work is both nostalgic and remarkably fresh. Yes, Folterkammer fuses various musical traditions and genres to craft an unparalleled experience.

Folterkammer is composed of Andromeda Anarchia on vocals, Zachary Ezrin on guitars, Darren Hanson on guitars, Laurent David on bass, and Brendan McGowan on drums. Both Anarchia, who hails from Switzerland, and David, who was born in Paris, divide their time between Europe and Brooklyn. Thus, even though the group can be described as international, Anarchia states: “It took New York to create Folterkammer.” Her project Andromeda Anarchia’s DARKMATTERS acted as the catalyst that brought her to the Big Apple, where she met Ezrin. Many metalheads already know that Anarchia has appeared as a guest on the three most recent albums by Ezrin’s brainchild Imperial Triumphant — a leading avant-garde band that marries extreme metal, jazz, classical components, etc. McGowan has also provided guest vocals for Imperial Triumphant, and Hanson lent his songwriting excellence to their 2012 instrumental track “Scaphism.”

Ezrin, McGowan, and Hanson have a wealth of shared history. These friends attended college together in California, where Hanson and Ezrin studied classical composition. Thus, much of Folterkammer’s orchestration is classically based. Hanson harbors a special love of Baroque music and knows precisely how to expertly wed it with his passion for black metal. Folterkammer was actually conceived when Ezrin proposed that Anarchia collaborate with him on some of Hanson’s material. Ezrin writes killer riffs and more for the band. McGowan was invited to join Folterkammer on Hanson’s wise suggestion. His drums are perhaps the heaviest element keeping one of Folterkammer’s limbs firmly anchored in traditional black metal. McGowan mines inspiration from different generations of acts: He names 1349 and old-school heroes like Blasphemy and Marduk. That said, black metal fans will also be pleased to hear the spirit of the second wave in the aggression of Folterkammer’s tremolo picking, for example.

The exceptionally skilled David, Folterkammer’s newest weapon, truly perfects the group with his golden touch on bass. Whereas the bass is not always as prominent as it could be in the content of many black metal groups, Folterkammer purposely allows David’s bass to shine through. Like his bandmates, David is an avid consumer of several forms of music, and thus creates delightfully eclectic art. He has received both classical and jazz training. This major talent has toured worldwide alongside musicians and bands such as Ibrahim Maalouf, Guillaume Perret & The Electric Epic, Yael Naim, and Shijin. David has done so both as a side man and as a band leader/producer. Anarchia and Ezrin already knew David before asking him to join Folterkammer. After all, David founded the “avant metal-jazz trio” Kilter of which Imperial Triumphant’s Kenny Grohowski is an essential part.

Kenny Chesney Gives BORN Classic Vinyl Treatment

Kenny Chesney debated about creating a vinyl pressing of BORN. Given its length – 15 songs – there was no way it could fit on one disc, and he didn’t want to choose which songs to leave off. He also knows the people who love listening to actual records are a very special breed of music lover, who cherish the old school needle-on-vinyl experience.

“I’m lucky,” says the songwriter/superstar from East Tennessee. “I have fans who still believe in the actual listening experience, starting an album at the beginning and taking the journey the songs are creating. Experiencing and asking ‘how does this music define a moment or a state of life? How does it color or reflect my mind?’

“So much of my own life’s been defined by what I was listening to over the years, and still is. That’s a whole different way of consuming music than just a hit. Knowing that, I decided to go ahead and do vinyl. It’s a limited run, but it’s there for all the people who put on albums and make that kind of listening a destination. For anyone who sinks into the songs, this is for you.”

Having delivered the No. 1 selling album in America in any genre on release – a distinction missed by many in a world where streaming has become the dominant point of consumption – and a Top 5 Country album across all consumption metrics, it speaks to No Shoes Nation’s desire to own Chesney’s complete albums.

BORN, one of Esquire’s Most Anticipated Releases of 2024, inspired deeper consideration. Men’s Journal assessed it “a pretty wide look at what life is made of – tricky stuff in relationships, chasing memories, kicking back, losing friends.” Holler raved, “quintessential Kenny Chesney...a masterpiece,” deeming it “an examination of a life well lived – of the bliss, the heartbreak, the silver linings, the healing... These stirring portrayals of grief and healing add new depth to the live-in-the-moment anthems Kenny has become synonymous with.”

Whether the grab-the-moment rush of “Just To Say We Did,” sweeping drama of “One Lonely Island,” or naughty no-strings rhythms of “Guilty Pleasure,” plus chilled philosophizing of “This Too Shall Pass,” BORN honors No Shoes Nation’s unquenchable desire to live life to its absolute peak. But as reviewers note, Chesney also draws on the contemplative with the philosophical “The Way I Love You Now,” the pensive female freedom of “Top Down” and closing toast to those who’ve passed away “Wherever You Are Tonight,” which esteemed critic and historian Robert K. Oermann called an “anthem that will endure” in Music Row.

“It’s a lot of music, and a lot of life,” Chesney acknowledges. “I realized all that can be taken in in different ways. While we’re only doing a limited pressing, which will be available at select retail stores and through the website, I wanted this music to be in whatever form No Shoes Nation wants to experience it through...”

Fans can pre-order here beginning April 18 at 11 p.m. CT to reserve their copy. With the Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour kicking off this weekend at Tampa’s Raymond James Stadium on Saturday April 20, BORN in double-disc vinyl marks a tangible way to take the music home for the summer.

Benighted Release New Album

"It's fucking badass, plain and simple.  Santé, mes amis. Très bien" - Metal Sucks

"Everything about this album definitely makes your skin crawl" - A&P Reacts

"A primo, chunkified dose of deathgrind supremacy" - Angry Metal Guy

"Somehow manage to strike an even richer vein of the material that they'd already been mining for albums past" - No Clean Singing

"Pure caustic fun" - Dead Rhetoric

On their tenth album, Benighted twist their brutal brand of death metal into something truly tormenting. Ekbom is named after a real-life psychological phenomenon that makes people believe their skin is infested with bugs.

Ekbom comes out today on Season of Mist. Listen to the whole terrifying experience on Season of Mist's YouTube channel.

Ekbom crawls under your skin with writhing riffs and blast beats that will raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Just try not to shiver while watching the  bugged-out music video for lead single "Scars".

On "Nothing Left to Fear", Archspire's Oli Peters adds a new dimension of vocal terror, contorting seamlessly with Benighted's terrifying speed.  At 402 BPM, this song proves that when it comes to the realm of death metal, this veteran French band are fearless.

Benighted recorded Ekbom at the studio of producer Kristian Kohlmannslehner, who's worked with bands like Aborted and Powerwolf. Germinating from this lair of dark, intricate production, "Metastasis" cultivates brutal, blackened death metal into a chorus that will crack open the deepest, darkest recesses of your skull.

Ekbom is just waiting to test your sanity. Let it crawl into your ears.

For the first time in almost a decade, this fall, Benighted are slithering across the ocean to treat Canadian metalheads with a heavy dose of brutal death metal. They'll be performing songs off Ekbom alongside New Jersey technical death metal malevolents Cognitive.

"Canada!! Finally, after 9 years, we'll be back", says vocalist Julien Truchan. "We can't control our excitement to arrive and show you our new album, Ekbom, live on stage! We'll have the pleasure to do this Canadian Infestation tour along with our brothers in Cognitive. Let's make this tour unforgettable together!"

Dive into the darkest realms of the human psyche as BENIGHTED, the French purveyors of brutal death metal & grindcore, unleash their tenth full-length album Ekbom in April 2024. The madness that has defined their discography continues with this radical soundtrack to the twisted times we inhabit.

Born from French Death and Black metal bands Dishumanized, Darkness Fire, and Osgiliath, Benighted emerged in 1998 with a mission to explore a more brutal, heavy, and modern form of musical expression. The impact of their first self-produced and self-titled full-length album in 2000 transformed Benighted from a side-project into a main act, quickly amassing a devoted fan base. Subsequent albums like Psychose (2002), Insane Cephalic Production (2004), Identisick(2006), and Icon (2007) further cemented their visceral, skull-breaking sound into extreme death metal history.

After a detour into the realms of Necrobreed in 2017, Benighted celebrated their 20th anniversary by capturing the live madness with Dogs Always Bite Harder Than Their Master in 2018.

With Obscene Repressed, they once again took sadistic pleasure in pushing the boundaries of brutality, delving into the disturbed mind of little Michael. His relentless battle against demons, fueled by unresolved oedipal issues with his mother, provided a grotesque tableau for Benighted's sonic butchery. Not content with merely slaughtering everything in their auditory path, Benighted crafted thematically explorative pieces, each turn in their music revealing new layers of horror and despair.

As the relentless journey continues, Benighted is set to unleash Ekbom in April 2024, an album that draws inspiration from the nightmarish 'Ekbom syndrome.' This rare neurological disorder, also known as Delusional Parasitosis, forms the thematic core of the upcoming release. A feeling of having a vile concoction of parasites, worms, and insects crawling under your skin is an apt description of what Benighted have to offer on this newest release. The auditory assault mirrors the repulsive sensations of the syndrome, a visceral and unsettling journey into the abyss of the human mind.

Madness reigns yet again, this time intertwining with the haunting echoes of Ekbom syndrome. Brace yourselves for another mind-shattering chapter in the Benighted saga as they continue to carve their niche in the putrid annals of extreme metal, leaving a trail of sonic disgust in their wake.
