Written by Justin Greaves with lyrics by Ryan Patterson, "Vampire Grave" frames disillusionment not as crisis but as conclusion. Patterson's lyric follows a narrator who has quietly stopped arguing with the terms of existence and arrived, without drama, at an alternative: immortality in death alongside another person, in a grave of their own choosing. The vampire conceit is not deployed for atmosphere alone. It carries a genuine emotional logic, the sense that if there are no winners in life, then permanent withdrawal becomes the only rational act of devotion. The phrase "bloodsick and depraved" sets the register early, and the song does not soften from there.

Patterson, who has collaborated with Justin Greaves and Crippled Black Phoenix across several projects, speaks to the immediacy of the song's central image: "‘Vampire Grave’ was the first song we did together for this album; Justin sent me the music with that working title and I immediately imagined two immortal lovers, blood junkies on an eternal death trip. It's a barn-burner of a song driven by Justin's drums and guitar, and perfectly completed by Belinda's creepy and beautiful backing vocals. It's one of my favorite vocal performances and I'm excited for people to hear it."

Belinda Kordic joins Patterson on backing vocals, her presence lending the song a layered intimacy that runs deeper than mere arrangement. The song also features percussion from Robin Tow and synths from Lucy Marshall, building a density that distinguishes it from some of the album's starker, more skeletal compositions. The result is a song that remains entirely within Sceaduhelm's emotional territory while offering a stronger immediate grip than much of the surrounding material.

As with previous releases, Justin Greaves remains the sole composer of the music, each composition emerging from his own emotional and creative impulse. The lyrical dimension is separate and equally personal. The words and themes are written by the vocalists themselves, each lyricist expressing their own feelings, experiences, and perspectives rather than interpreting someone else’s narrative. Belinda Kordic, Ryan Patterson, and Justin Storms each author their own texts, bringing distinct emotional viewpoints into the material.

Lyrically and thematically, Sceaduhelm is preoccupied with exhaustion as a condition rather than a moment, with time framed not as a healer but as an eroding force. Songs address burnout, grief, surveillance, institutional violence, and damaged intimacy, often blurring the line between the personal and the political. Musically, the album favours restraint over release, employing repetition, minimalism, and slow escalation to sustain tension without catharsis. Recorded across multiple locations and mixed with deliberate austerity, the record resists warmth, clarity serving discomfort rather than solace.

Within Crippled Black Phoenix’s wider catalogue, Sceaduhelm does not seek to resolve previous narratives or replicate past high points. Instead, it documents a moment of exposure and endurance, listening closely to what remains when spectacle fades and outrage exhausts itself. It stands as a severe, human record, concerned less with declaration than with persistence, and affirms once more the band’s refusal to stand still, soften its gaze, or offer easy answers.

UNHOLY HALLOWEEN brings together three of its most pioneering forces for an exclusive, once-in-a-generation celebration of the scene’s past, present and future.

Each band arrives at this moment at the height of its powers. Dimmu Borgir recently headlined Tons of Rock, Satyricon has sold out the Oslo Opera House and delivered a critically acclaimed commission for the Munch Museum, while Enslaved continues to redefine the genre – earning multiple Norwegian Grammy Awards for their groundbreaking work.

For Dimmu Borgir, the night also marks a long-awaited homecoming. It has been 15 years since their last headline show in Oslo – a landmark performance with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra at the very same venue.

“We’re releasing our new album 'Grand Serpent Rising' this spring, followed by extensive touring across Europe and other markets. By the time we return to Norway, we’ll be ready to deliver something truly massive. Since it’s been so long since our last headline show at home, we’re going all in. Joy Thieves Productions crafts their surprisingly cohesive signature sound from the contributions of its ever-growing 80+ roster of members, drawn from a diverse range of genres, including industrial, rock, punk, darkwave, hip hop and experimental music, they produce a sound that The Joy Thieves describe as being created by “all of us. Many of the songs on the new album began with producer-drummer Dan Milligan re-recording iconic hip hop breakbeats with modern drum sounds. ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ began exactly that way -- with a modern re-imagining of the one of the most famous breakbeats of all time (‘Ashley’s Roachclip’ by The Soul Searchers). This formed the basis upon which the entire track was built.

“At the very beginning of the creation process for Apocalypse Pending, the goal was to blend the existing Joy Thieves’ sound with elements of the golden age of hip hop, and I think ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ does that as well as any song on the album,” says Dan Milligan.

For a band with members spread all over the world, The Joy Thieves' music feels like it could have only been made in Chicago. NARNIA's upcoming album, 'X,' marks the bands 30th anniversary and nearly three decades of unwavernig presence on the international metal scene.

While their previous release ‘Ghost Town’ (2023) reaffirmed the band’s melodic metal foundation, ‘X’ expands NARNIA’s sonic landscape. The album moves confidently between soaring, arena-ready choruses and more adventurous, progressive passages, without ever losing the band’s unmistakable identity.

Songs like “Oceanwide,” “Every Breath,” and “Heaven’s Calling” showcase NARNIA’s gift for strong hooks and uplifting melodies. At the other end of the spectrum, the high-energy “Remedy (SOS)” pushes the tempo to new heights, while tracks such as “God Under Fire”and “Jerusalem” explore more intricate arrangements and progressive textures.

About CYHRA
As they approach their 10th anniversary next year, CYHRA have carved out a notable place in the metal scene since their founding in 2016 by Jake E (AMARANTHE Co-Founder) and Jesper Strömblad (THE HALO EFFECT, formerly IN FLAMES). They were soon joined by drummer Alex Landenburg (KAMELOT, Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY), guitarist Euge Valovirta (SUBURBAN TRIBE), and bassist Peter Iwers (THE HALO EFFECT, formerly IN FLAMES). Their success continued with a European tour with BATTLE BEAST, UK dates alongside DELAIN, headline shows in select countries including Finland and Japan, and performances at major festivals like Masters of Rock, Bloodstock Open Air, Sabaton Open Air, and 70,000 Tons of Metal.

In 2020, guitarist Marcus Sunesson (RONNIE ATKINS, THE CROWN) joined, expanding the line-up. The pandemic pause allowed the band to craft their third album The Vertigo Trigger, released in 2023. The album’s tour brought them back to Finland to open for SMASH INTO PIECES and to headline shows in early 2024. Quietly beginning their fourth album, CYHRA ended the cycle with a Scandinavian tour with EVERGREY, leading into 2025 and through to 2026 with a series of new single releases. Now, after reaching crushing new highs on Part I of their forthcoming album trilogy, the band are descending into the deepest, darkest and most personal depths of their storied career with A Dark Poem, Part II: Sanguis.

“Part II deal with personal loss and sadness”, shares Nordhus, though as he’s quick to explain, Sanguis isn’t all gloom and doom. “Those feelings can be almost comforting, like stories you hear about the calm that people experience before they die”. Indeed, if A Dark Poem contains a silver lining, it’s in the creative partnership that’s helped Green Carnation endure for more than three decades. “It would be different if I had only known Stein Roger for two months”, Nordhus continues in explaining how he gives voice to the words of his dear friend. “It’s easy for me to understand and relate to all of his struggles, all of his pleasures and joys, because I’ve been a part of them as well”.

Part II introduces more peaks and valleys into the overarching narrative of A Dark Poem, but nowhere does the album’s bleeding-heart core shine through more achingly than its closing ballad. Graced by Ingrid Ose’s soothing flute, “Lunar Tale” positively sparkles, even as it casts a rather grim beacon into the future. “The end justifies the means, you’ll see”, Nordhus sings with eerily quiet confidence. As the piano seeps beneath the moonlight, Sanguisleaves fans hanging in suspense over where this trilogy will end.

As the curtain falls on an extraordinary career spanning more than four decades, SEPULTURA are preparing to close their final chapter at the end of this year. With over 40 years of band history, 14 gold records, and performances across more than 80 countries, SEPULTURA stand as Brazil’s uncompromising emissary to the global stage and one of today’s most influential metal bands.

Currently bringing their pioneering sound to audiences worldwide on the 'Celebrating Life Through Death' farewell tour, the question has arisen: how should SEPULTURA mark the end of such a monumental journey? The answer came naturally: By capturing a final creative moment and preserving it for posterity.

Last month, SEPULTURA announced their final release, The Cloud of Unknowing EP, due to be released on April 24th.

The band are proud to reveal the EP's second single, the deeply resonant 'Beyond the Dream'.

The result of a direct partnership between members of Sepultura and Titãs, the song celebrates the connection between artists who share the stage and a deep passion for creation. The outcome is a piece that brings great satisfaction to everyone involved, establishing itself as both an emotional and historical milestone featured on the band’s final EP, released in this very year that marks Sepultura’s official farewell.”

UADA Announces 'Devoid of Light (10th Anniversary Edition), Reveals Delays for 'Interwoven'

Enigmatic black metal masters UADA is celebrating the 10 year anniversary of their debut album, 'Devoid of Light,' with a special reissue! Originally released in 2016, 'Devoid of Light' remains a remarkably focused debut - just five tracks, a little over thirty minutes - and yet a fully formed statement. The 'Devoid of Light (10th Anniversary Edition)' returns in an expanded form. Remastered by Arthur Rizk, who previously handled mixing and mastering for UADA's sophomore album 'Cult of a Dying Sun' and mastering for the acoustic album 'Interwoven,' the material gains depth without losing the character of the original recordings. This edition also includes previously unseen photography by Peter Beste, alongside rare archival material, expanded liner notes, and an exclusive bonus track. It will be released on July 17, 2026 via Eisenwald in CD format and 3 vinyl color variations; it is now available for pre-orders HERE.

Moreover, UADA's upcoming acoustic album has been delayed. The original April 10 release date will still be honored digitally, but physical copies will not be shipped until late May due to delays at the manufacturing plant. The album represents an acoustic journey tracing one song from each chapter of UADA's discography as well as various covers from the bands who've inspired them. 'Interwoven' will also be released via Eisenwald and is now available for pre-orders HERE.

ICYMI: UADA recently unveiled a haunting version of ROME's "Der Brandtaucher." The release comes just before UADA embarks on their next North American journey alongside MORTIIS, in which Jerome Reuter’s ROME will be among the support. The song can be heard now below.

UADA comments, "Originally composed by Jerome Reuter and Patrick Damiani, this rendition was the final track chosen for Interwoven. Having followed Rome since 2008’s Masse Mensch Material, “Der Brandtaucher” held deep personal resonance, especially during the most difficult chapter of my life. Its inclusion was not simply artistic - it was necessary."

In addition, UADA has joined forces with industrial metal artist MORTIIS for a very special co-headliner, featuring exclusive anniversary sets and supporting performances by Jerome Reuter’s ROME and WRAITH KNIGHT. UADA will be performing their seminal 2016 debut album 'Devoid of Light' in its entirety + a special CERMONIAL CASTINGS 30-year anniversary set featuring Wraith Knight. In addition, MORTIIS shall be performing songs from his groundbreaking 2001 full-length, 'The Smell Of Rain,' along with other volumes of dystopian despair. Moreover, after much demand from fans, UADA will be returning to Milwaukee Metal Fest for the second time since leaving their mark during the 2024 edition. Season of Mist is reissuing Sleep of the Angels, the fifth full-length album by Greek legends Rotting Christ. Originally released in January 1999 on Century Media, the album will now be available on vinyl through the band’s current label home.

Sleep of the Angels represents the furthest point from Rotting Christ's black metal origins. It is a record defined by melodic weight, brooding atmosphere, and a gloomy romanticism that remains striking in its internal coherence. At its center is the interplay between the heavy guitar work of Sakis Tolis and a constant, gauzy keyboard presence that lends the whole record an almost ecclesiastical quality. The result is the most gothic album in the band's ever-evolving discography.

Formed in Athens in 1987, Rotting Christ are one of extreme metal's most enduring and restlessly shape-shifting forces. By the time Sleep of the Angels was recorded in September 1998, Rotting Christ had spent three consecutive albums methodically expanding from the rawness of their early catalogue toward atmosphere, melody and a dark romanticism. The album closed a trilogy begun with Triarchy of the Lost Lovers(1996) and continued through A Dead Poem (1997), before the band pivoted again toward heavier, more industrial-inflected territory on Khronos (2000).

Guest contributors to Sleep of the Angels include Waldemar Sorychta on lead guitar on "Victoriatus" and "You My Flesh," and vocalist Eddy Kante on the partially German language "Der Perfekte Traum."

Third Man Records Announces Ted Lucas’ Images of Life

Today, Third Man Records announces Images of Life, a career-spanning, 3xLP retrospective boxset illuminating the staggering breadth and depth of Lucas’ work, out May 22nd.

In conjunction, they digitally release disc two, Rainy Days (1970-1974), available to stream in its entirety today. Disc one, Strange Mysterious Sounds (1965-1970), highlights Lucas’ flirtation with psychedelic major label clout via his bands the Spike Drivers, the Misty Wizards and the Horny Toads. Disc two, Rainy Days (1970-1974) contains the solo acoustic warmth and charm most similar to the music found on his self-titled album. Finally, disc three, Impossible Love (1979), is Lucas’ lost second album. The album, produced by the legendary Don Was, highlights Lucas’ smooth songwriting and near-"yacht rock," while never betraying the true artistry and craft of a once-in-a-generation talent.

Rainy Days (1970-1974) captures Lucas’ early ’70s period, the most consequential of his career. It was at this time that a rejected Warner Bros. songwriter demo was transformed into one of the most significant (and overlooked) private-press folk albums ever made. The compositions Lucas created between 1970 and 1974 represent the peak of his creative work, and the decisions he made about when and how this music saw release (if it was released at all) sealed his fate to be largely unappreciated in his lifetime. Rainy Days features stunning live performances, unreleased studio tracks, and intimate home recordings that reveal a musician at peak expressive power.
