Psychedelic alt-pop outfit Messiness unleashes sonic supernova on debut eponymous album

Psychedelic indie-rock outfit Messiness presents their highly anticipated debut 'Messiness' album, released via Vienna-based StoneFree Records and Istanbul-based Tarla Records. A collection that resists easy categorisation, this music is playful yet serious, critical yet hallucinatory. This is a record for disobedient nights, for cracked screens and seaside sunsets, and for listeners who suspect that, in disorder, there may also lie a different kind of clarity.

Here, Messiness presents a vibrant sonic supernova, delivering an exhilarating blend of indie rock riffs, baroque and power pop harmonies, and razor-sharp Britpop energy. Highlighted by the standout focus track 'Cómo Baja, Cómo Sube', this album masterfully captures a feeling of adventure and possibility that unites their seaside roots and humanity's cosmic future through dizzying psychedelia and high-velocity art-rock euphoria.

Steered by Sicilian polymath Max Raffa – singer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer and sociologist – Messiness is a psychedelic art-rock band born in the shadowy outskirts of Milan. A compelling culmination of his diverse artistic and academic pursuits, Raffa forged his unique sound playing in various rock 'n' roll bands while touring across Europe and the UK.

On stage, Raffa is joined by Rosario Lo Monaco (guitars), Filippo La Marca(keyboards, backing vocals), Giovanni Calella (bass), and Luca Anello (drums and percussion), expanding the studio vision into a dense, unpredictable, and immersive live experience.

With an inviting and energetic sound, Messiness masterfully weaves art pop, psychedelia and space rock into a distinctive and compelling style. With rich harmonies, this rich tapestry is both accessible and exhilaratingly vibrant, drawing from the finest traditions of British rock and continental flair.

Recorded entirely on analogue equipment, the album is a kaleidoscope of influences: psychedelic rock, Canterbury scene experimentation, Mediterranean folk traditions, space-funk grooves, and baroque pop. Guitars bleed into Mellotron swells, oud and shawm cut through saxophone blasts, while theremin and electronics haunt the edges of the mix. The result is a sound that is both grounded in history and untethered from time: at once classic and futuristic, earthy and celestial.

But Messiness is not only about sound - this album is also a work of social commentary. Its songs confront the contradictions of contemporary life: the pressure to optimise everything, the commodification of well-being, the collapse of solidarity, and the shifting borders of identity and belonging. Rather than offering manifestos, the band responds with atmosphere, irony, and dissonance, turning critique into music that drifts between satire and reverie.

Some of these compositions are biting and sardonic, exposing the rituals of productivity and the comforts that anaesthetise dissent. Others move toward dreamlike meditation, evoking Mediterranean coastlines where time loosens its grip and memory becomes indistinguishable from imagination. Throughout, Messiness' creativity thrives in the midst of contradictions rather than seeking to resolve them, essentially discovering intensity despite overload and beauty amidst collapse.

Messiness earlier shared four superb singles - 'Eternity Unbound', a feverish trippy explosion of sound that explores a shattered sense of time and self-identify; 'Fatally', a Britpop-hued track that delves into the harrowing reality of substance dependency; 'Feature With a Rapper', a biting critique of the music industry and creative legitimacy in the digital age; and the head-turning lead track 'Previous Life'.

Messiness' visual identity is curated by Istanbul-based artist Güneş Akyürek, whose imagery expands their world beyond sound, translating their intensity into colour, form and atmosphere. Sun-drenched memory against metropolitan nights, social critique against psychedelic drift, collapse against luminous renewal.

As of November 21, the 'Messiness' album is available from fine online music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The LP can be ordered on hand-numbered 12" black vinyl, limited to 200 pieces, while the 12" blue mirage vinyl is limited to 100 pieces, each of them including an inlay sheet and download card.

Mudvayne Drop ANOTHER New Track With "Sticks and Stones"

It's feast or famine!

A mere two weeks ago, '00s hard rock provocateurs MUDVAYNE — Chad Gray[vocals], Greg Tribbett [guitar], Ryan Martinie [drums], and Matthew McDonough [drums] — thrilled fans by dropping  their first new single in 16 years with "HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE" via Alchemy Recordings. The song has already accumulated over half a millions streams and counting. Watch the visualizer and listen to the song here.

The band has shared ANOTHER new track. This time, they've issued "Sticks and Stones." Watch and listen via the visualizer here. The official music video is forthcoming.

While "HURT PEOPLE HURT PEOPLE" immediately clamped down on the jugular and was a primal scream return for the band, "Sticks and Stones" is a bit more measured in its ferocity. It showcases the band's mastery of quiet-loud dynamics and steadily escalates to an utterly monstrous breakdown.

"I was always told 'sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me,'" says Gray. "Well, it's a great nursery rhyme, but I couldn't disagree more. I've carried a lot of words throughout my life as if they were just spoken to me. The reality is — they do hurt. I've tried my best to shed them, but when they come from dear friends, family — people that are suppose to love you — the words have teeth and they won't let go. Blood doesn't wash out; iit stains. I think I'm just trying to remind people to love their children. Don't use them as a bullet to fire into your ex or whomever you're with now. They're innocent and they are impressionable. And trust me, as a child, that was used as a weapon, your words will hurt them...long after you say them."

The band has also launched a pre-order for a double A Side 7" vinyl featuring both songs. There will be a standard version, as well as a variant that is signed and limited to 500 units. Both are available exclusively through the band's webstorealongside a brand new merch capsule. Go here to get yours.

Additionally, there will be a variant available exclusively through Revolver.

Mudvayne are looking towards their future as they also celebrate their impactful past. The song arrives on the eve of the band's L.D. 50 25th Anniversary headline tour, which kicks off today, September 11, and runs through October 26. L.D. 50was the band's debut studio album, arriving in August 2000 via Epic Records and established the band as a new yet major player in the hard rock scene. It eventually went on to achieve a Gold certification. Years after its release, both Revolver and Metal Hammer deemed the album an essential of the '00s metal class, rightfully so. The tour will feature support from Static-X, while Vended will open. All dates are below. Get tickets here.
