Alternative rock / post-punk duo
Para Lia present  their new album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist', an 11-track offering of post-punk and indie rock delight, released via the Berlin label About Us Records.

Para Lia is multi-instrumentalist René Methner and vocalist Cindy Methner, who ignore the zeitgeist of this day to create music that is far from mainstream. This album sees them blend their love for late 80’s and early 90’s indie rock with psychedelic, garage rock, 60’s influences, and early prog rock elements.

Mastered by
Thommy Hein (Die Ärzte, Nina Hagen, Udo Lindenberg) at Tonstudios Berlin and self-recorded and produced at their home studio in Cottbus, Germany, 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' sees Para Lia grow on yet another level with the band expanding from two members to six with an eye towards upcoming live performances.

Earlier, the duo recently released the single 'C'est La Vie', following the driving lead single 'Sunchild' with its positive energy and the single 'Yellow Rose', a melodic dream-rock composition reflecting reverence of life.

"We think this album sounds exactly the way it should and we are very happy with it. It was a pleasure to join Thommy Hein in his Berlin studio for the mastering of the tracks and we love the sound we created. We added an extra dose of 60’s feel and garage and psych rock elements to the indie rock guitar sound and we think we cooked a tasty kind of rock soup. If we had to describe the album we would call it: psychalovic!" says René Methner.

"Oh tempora, oh mores, der Zeitgeist ist nur Kokolores' - we chose this quote from German Aphorist Erhard Blanck (printed on the sleeve of the vinyl) because we think it illustrates very well the character of the album."

The duo debuted with the
'Soap Bubble Dreams' album in 2019, followed by 'Gone With The Flow', involving artists from the USA, Canada and the UK, not to mention a collaborative interactive art exhibition with painter Louis Renzoni.

As of August 25, 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' will be available digitally
across fine music platforms, including Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp. where it will also be available on vinyl.

Alternative rock / post-punk duo
Para Lia are on a delightfully relentless roll, bringing us one sampling of sonic goodness after another ahead of  their new album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' (out August 25 via the Berlin label About Us Records). They now present the single 'C'est La Vie'.

"The garage rock of the mid 60’s, which I love, was the inspiration for writing this fast-paced track. The song has the easy structure a garage song needs and a text with a simple message too. Psychalovic with an extra dose of energy!" says René Methner.

"I wanted to make a video which also references the 60’s. And so with a background of dazzling colors in a psychedelic atmosphere (base is a video shot right into the Greek summer sun) the black silhouettes of us perform throughout the video.

Cindy Methner adds, "The video also shows the kind of Metamorphosis that is happening now in the Para Lia cosm – the growth of the band's format as a duo to a sextet.  This is the first time that all 6 musicians of the band are seen together in a video."

Earlier, the duo released the single 'Yellow Rose', a melodic dream-rock composition reflecting reverence of life, and the driving lead single 'Sunchild' with its positive energy.

The duo debuted with the
'Soap Bubble Dreams' album in 2019, followed by 'Gone With The Flow', involving artists from the USA, Canada and the UK, not to mention a collaborative interactive art exhibition with painter Louis Renzoni.

Germany's PARA LIA presents vibrant indie rock anthem in new 'Yellow Rose'

Alternative rock / post-punk duo
Para Lia once again please our earbuds with their new single 'Yellow Rose', along with its new video. Conveying reverence for life, this melodic dreamy rock composition is the second taste of their album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist', which is slated for release on August 25 via the Berlin label About Us Records.

Para Lia is multi-instrumentalist René Methner and vocalist Cindy Methner - for this duo, symbolism and lyricism are of importance. 'Yellow Rose' is an ode to losing a loved one who can never be forgotten and keeping a piece of them in your heart. The yellow rose stands for loyalty, close friendships and the circle of trust. Here, Para Lia creates the perfect symbiosis of these - melancholy with warmth, sadness with joy, and the prospects of hope - all at the same time.

This album sees them blend their love for late 80’s and early 90’s indie rock with 60’s influences, psychedelic, garage rock and early prog rock elements. This follows up the lead single
'Sunchild' - a driving, guitar-laden indie rock lead track that is accompanied by a fun-filled nostalgic self-directed video.

"This is a song about the loss of a loved person, a very emotive track and an attempt to mirror the fragility of life in the song's arrangement. Para Lia is joined here by two fantastic musicians – Fady Haddad from Baltimore, who provides beautiful synth parts and also joined us on our last album for two tracks. And Christian Georgi - a classical musician, who has been part of the staff at the Staatstheater Cottbus for many years - who plays the E-piano on this track," says René Methner.

Cindy Methner adds, "What is the best way to express emotions? Spoiler: there are not so many ways. Whether it’s joy, excitement, melancholy or sadness. Often you can feel several things at once and you don't even recognise what you‘re dealing with. This is especially the case when you lose somebody important in your life - whatever the reason, wherever it takes place. this applies to friends, soulmates as well as family - people who have grown dear to you.

Ignoring the zeitgeist of this day and age, Para Lia creates music that is far from mainstream. Debuting with the
'Soap Bubble Dreams' album in 2019, followed by 'Gone With The Flow', which involved artists from the USA, Canada and the UK, as well as a collaborative interactive art exhibition with painter Louis Renzoni.

Melodic indie / alternative rock duo
Para Lia presents their new single 'Yellow Rose', an ode to losing a loved one who can never be forgotten and keeping a piece of them in your heart - forever. Loaded with melody, this dreamy rock composition is the second taste of their album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist', to be released on August 25 via Berlin label About Us Records.

The yellow rose stands for loyalty, close friendships and the circle of trust. Here, Para Lia creates the perfect symbiosis of these - melancholy with warmth, sadness with joy, and the prospects of hope - all at the same time.

Para Lia is multi-instrumentalist René Methner and vocalist Cindy Methner. Born of their love for Greece, the name "para lia" (παραλία) means “coast” or “beach" in Greek is full of mystery and optimism, both having its story and evoking balance between the masculine and feminine. Raised in the eastern part of a divided Germany, they are now based in Cottbus (near Berlin).

Para Lia's music is influenced by the rhythms and tones of ‘90s alt-rock and the synth density of ‘80s darkwave. Their own sound blends melodic guitars, along with distinctive lead guitar and resonant synths.

Indie rock / postpunk duo Para Lia radiates sun-filled psychedelic energy on 'Sunchild', announcing new album

Melodic indie / alternative rock duo Para Lia presents their single 'Sunchild', the first new music since announcing the duo has signed to Berlin-based About Us Records for their third album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' (out on August 25). This driving, guitar-laden indie rock lead track is accompanied by a fun-filled nostalgic self-directed video.

Para Lia is René Methner (all instruments and vocals) and Cindy Methner (backing vocals), who were raised in the eastern part of a divided Germany. Their band name was born of their love for Greece, with para lia (παραλία) meaning “coast” or “beach" in Greek - a name full of mystery but optimism, which both has history and evokes a balance of the masculine and feminine.

"Greece, for us, is a place of well-being, joie de vivre, the home of friends, almost 'second home' to use and a place to 'take a deep breath'. With emotions that are consistently positive, these images therefore perfectly translate the mood of this song, combined with footage from the Thommy Hein Studio in Berlin, where the whole album got its finishing touches in a beautiful atmosphere. Good vibes through and through," says René Methner.

Not only do does Para Lia's psychedelic side find its way into the lyrics, but also the video. Methner adds, “The whole thing is framed visually with psychedelic echoes and a vintage touch, which are both reminiscent of indie rock videos of the early 1990s and also late-1960s Super8 aesthetics. This track is a love letter to life. In fact, most of the songs here are characterized by optimism and hope."

Now based in Cottbus (near Berlin), Para Lia's music is influenced by the rhythms and tones of ‘90s alt-rock and the synth density of ‘80s darkwave. Their own sound blends melodic guitars, along with distinctive lead guitar and resonant synths.

"This is a psychelovic indie rock song for survivors!" says Cindy Methner. "This is an ode to not letting it get you down and was created in darker days. It's an optimistic song to blink into the sun, where the joy of life is at home behind the black holes"

Ignoring the zeitgeist of this day and age, Para Lia creates music that is far from mainstream. Despite this, or maybe because of it, the band has gathered listeners from around the world. Debuting with the 'Soap Bubble Dreams' album in 2019, followed by 'Gone With The Flow', which involved artists from the USA, Canada and the UK, as well as a collaborative interactive art exhibition with painter Louis Renzoni.

Now Para Lia is ready to enter the next chapter with the new album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist'. Self-recorded and produced at their home studio, these tracks were then mastered by Thommy Hein (Die Ärzte, Nina Hagen, Udo Lindenberg) at Tonstudios Berlin. 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' features appearances by US keyboardist Fady Haddad, who featured on Para Lia's previous record, as well as- Christian Georgion electric piano and Andreas Jäpel on baritone vocals  (both of these artists are from the Staatstheater Cottbus). The artwork was designed by Greek artist Georgia Moschogianni.

'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' sees Para Lia grow on yet another level with the band expanding from two members to six with an eye towards upcoming live performances.

'Sunchild' is out now and is available digitally across fine music platforms, including Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp. The full album 'In Clash With The Zeitgeist' will be released, both digitally and on vinyl, on August 25.

Melodic alternative / indie rock duo Para Lia present their new single 'Children of the Flood (feat. Fady Haddad)', who contributes both synth and vocals. Frontman René Methner created an uplifting video based on footage shot in Greece in summer 2020.

Para Lia's collaboration with American musician Fady Haddad came about through a SoundCloud meeting of minds and a mutual respect for each other’s work.

The duo just released their second album 'Gone With The Flow' on vinyl and CD. With 11 new tracks, its core themes are the muse and the continual struggle with that relationship, explored amidst layers of sound and arrangements that continually swing from light to dark.

Preceded by the singles 'My Muse' and 'Riders On The Dike', the digital release was timed for the anniversary of Germany's reunification, significant for a band hailing from the Eastern part of a then-divided Germany.

“About working with Para Lia, you just never want it to end. Inspired and inspirational, the process of making music is so much easier when you are starting with brilliant material. I feel like I was just adding icing on an already delicious cake,” says Fady Haddad.

Now based near Berlin, Para Lia is René Methner (all instruments and vocals) and Cindy Methner (backing vocals), their band name was born of their love for Greece, with para lia, (παραλία) meaning “coast” or “beach" in Greek - a name full of mystery but optimism, which both has history and evokes a balance of the masculine and feminine.

Influenced by ‘90s alt-rock and ‘80s darkwave, Para Lia burst onto the music scene in 2019, debuting with 'Soap Bubble Dreams' LP and 'Hawk Hill' EP and often likened to J Mascis, The Cure, Arcade Fire, The Mission, The Last Shadow Puppets, Sebadoh and Editors.

Para Lia also recently launched a virtual mixed art exhibition with artist Louis Renzoni, dspawned from numerous in-depth conversations. Originally destined for an NYC gallery until the global pandemic, this is a celebration of the band's new music, complemented by Renzoni's artwork. An immersive experience, each exhibit is fully interactive and can be found at https://www.sophisticatedape.com/gone-with-the-flow-exhibition

“Louis’s work plays with many interesting shades and suggestions. A lot of his paintings connect the modern with expressions, which seem to come from 19th century aesthetics, it feels like a surreal view into the Victorian age. The lyrics to ‘Children Of The Flood’ was inspired by one of the finest lyrical ‘paintings’ of the German 19th century novel ‘The Rider On The Dike’ by Theodor Storm. A dark novel, a Faustian plot, and a ghost rider on a white horse on a dike," says René Methner.

"The lyrics attempt to connect the overall impression of Louis' and Storm’s work to a current narrative, to save the dike, perhaps a metaphor for much of what we see happening around us? The balance here was to try and hold back the outright rage which is often part of modern discourse."

'Gone With The Flow' is now available on vinyl, CD and digitally via Bandcamp. It can also be found on Spotify and Apple Music.

Methner's conversations with artist Louis Renzoni blossomed into not only a friendship, but also a mixed art exhibition. Originally destined for a New York gallery until the global pandemic took hold, their collaborative virtual exhibition is a celebration of their work, the release of brand new music, complemented by Renzoni's artwork.
