IATT Release New Album 'Etheric Realms of the Night' Alongside Video For "To Lie Beneath"

"To Lie Beneath" embraces discomfort and unquiet. IATT craft a haunting soundscape in this track as they explore the sensation of sleep paralysis, and "To Lie Beneath" sees the band joined by Jerome Burns who provides a dizzying trumpet solo. The thrilling accompanying music video brings to life this song's themes in line with the overarching concept of the new album. Etheric Realms of the Night is out now via Black Lion Records.

In "To Lie Beneath", shrill black metal vocals traverse above an immersive, textural instrumental arrangement. The extreme genre influences are placed alongside progressive styles reflecting the tension and disjointed impact of sleep paralysis. Symphonic elements from orchestral instruments entwine throughout the discordant layers. Specifically, IATT's use of harp alludes to the feeling of being immobilized during sleep paralysis.

Returning to the central theme of Etheric Realms of the Night, the instrumental section in "To Lie Beneath" represents being torn between reality and the dream world. The song's ethereal piano led outro is joined by a flute accompaniment. Serene yet somber, this conclusion introduces the idea of somniphobia, the fear of falling asleep, which is the focus of the following track on the album.

IATT's cinematic music video for "To Lie Beneath" incorporates imagery of entanglement. The narrative's heroine is tied and bound with rope, and has cloth over her eyes restricting her senses further. Attempting to navigate her way through woodland, under the watchful eyes of cloaked figures, the protagonist is left stumbling while trying to make sense of this warped reality. Enlisting the help of two guides, something hooded and sinister follows close behind.

Once her sight is restored, the heroine encounters objects, reminders, from 'reality' manifesting in this dream realm. The video ends showing her physical form situated firmly in the real world, while her mind ventures in plains elsewhere.

IATT will be bringing Etheric Realms of the Night to the stage. In support of the new album and full-length film, the band has announced a run of live dates spanning the East Coast and into Canada marking IATT’s first time performing north of the border.

For this run, Etheric Realms of the Night will be performed in its entirety, offering a rare opportunity to experience the full narrative as it was intended live, immersive, and unfolding in real time.

The tour also features a number of special engagements, including the official release event for the band’s “Draft Away” beer collaboration, as well as the red carpet premiere screening of Etheric Realms of the Night - the Complete Album Film.

IATT Announces New Single "Somniphobia" From Forthcoming Album Etheric Realms of the Night

Experimental metal band IATT release their new single "Somniphobia", taken from the forthcoming album Etheric Realms of the Night, arriving May 8, 2026 on Black Lion Records.

"Somniphobia" explores the fear of falling asleep and the psychological strain that follows prolonged exhaustion. The song reflects the experience of constant fatigue, mental tension, and the despair that develops when the body and mind are pushed beyond rest. The composition moves through contrasting sonic spaces that mirror the instability of sleep anxiety.

A dissonant bridge introduces an atmosphere of unease and internal conflict. Clashing tones and shifting dynamics capture the feeling of mental tension building beneath the surface. This moment gives way to a dramatic shift that introduces a sample from Ram Dass’ 1994 lecture The Roots of Suffering. The passage centers on the difficulty of understanding the mind and the persistent nature of suffering.

Following the spoken excerpt, the track transitions into trance-like and space-oriented keyboards that suggest a drifting state between wakefulness and dream. The music moves toward a calmer sonic space while still carrying the tension established earlier in the track.

The Ram Dass lecture was chosen for its reflection on the paradox of awareness and suffering. A sense of connection to oneself, to spirituality, or to the dream world does not remove the presence of suffering in reality. The themes expressed in the lecture align with the central tension within "Somniphobia". The impulse to move away from reality exists alongside the realization that acceptance of one’s present condition is necessary. The balance between suffering and awareness becomes part of the larger emotional arc of the song.

Etheric Realms of the Night presents a conceptual exploration of sleep and dream states. Each track represents a stage within the larger narrative of dreaming, beginning with the descent into sleep and continuing through the shifting environments of the subconscious. The album explores themes of fear, transcendence, and the duality that exists between waking life and the dream world.

Through this narrative structure, IATT examine the boundary between consciousness and the subconscious and the ways these states influence one another. The result is an album that moves through tension, uncertainty, and eventual acceptance of a different realm of experience.

About IATT:

IATT is a Philadelphia based progressive extreme metal band known for fusing blackened aggression, technical precision, and cinematic atmosphere into immersive, concept driven works. Their sound moves between ferocity and fragility, combining intricate guitar work, dynamic rhythms, and orchestral textures to create music that feels both emotionally intense and narratively expansive.

Since forming in 2008, IATT has steadily evolved into a project defined by scope and ambition. Each release is approached as a complete experience, with recurring musical themes, symbolic instrumentation, and carefully shaped pacing that guide the listener through psychological and philosophical terrain. Their albums often explore themes such as consciousness, identity, and the tension between reality and inner worlds, expressed through layered arrangements that reward deep listening.

Records like Nomenclature and Magnum Opus established IATT as a band unafraid to stretch the boundaries of extreme metal. Jazz influenced phrasing, classical inspired orchestrations, and atmospheric passages exist alongside relentless riffing and commanding vocal performances, giving their music a multidimensional character that resists simple categorization.

A strong visual and conceptual identity also plays a central role in the band’s work. IATT frequently extend their musical narratives into interconnected visual pieces, reinforcing the emotional and symbolic weight of their albums. This unified approach reflects their belief that sound, story, and imagery can combine to create a deeply immersive artistic statement.

With each new chapter, IATT continue refining their balance of brutality, beauty, and narrative depth, standing as one of the more adventurous and forward thinking voices in modern progressive extreme metal.

IATT Announce New Single "Drift Away" From Forthcoming Album Etheric Realms of the Night

Philadelphia progressive extreme metal visionaries IATT unveil "Drift Away", the first single from their upcoming full length album Etheric Realms of the Night, out May 8, 2026 on Black Lion Records. Accompanied by a cinematic music video, the track serves as the opening chapter of the album’s overarching narrative and its companion film, guiding listeners into the shifting terrain between waking consciousness and the dream world.

"Drift Away" begins in an unexpected place of calm. Gentle acoustic guitar and expressive flute lines create a sense of weightlessness, capturing the moment when the body relaxes and the mind begins to slip beyond the physical world. This atmosphere gradually expands into a vast and immersive soundscape, where layered instrumentation and evolving dynamics mirror the sensation of drifting deeper into sleep.

As the song unfolds, subtle melodic motifs and ambient textures establish the emotional and thematic foundation for the album. The track introduces the core idea behind Etheric Realms of the Night, the exploration of dream states as both refuge and unknown territory. The arrangement moves with deliberate patience, allowing tension and beauty to coexist as the music transitions from fragile serenity into something more powerful and uncertain.

"Drift Away" features guest appearances from Didier Malherbe of Gong on the flute and Ben Karas of Thank You Scientist/Slaughtersun) on violin

Lyrically and conceptually, "Drift Away" represents surrender. It captures the moment of letting go, when awareness softens and the boundary between internal and external reality begins to blur. The band uses this opening chapter to set the tone for the psychological descent that follows across the album’s seven movements and the unfolding narrative of the companion film.

The accompanying video offers the first visual entry point into that larger story. Dreamlike imagery and symbolic scenes mirror the song’s emotional arc, establishing themes that continue throughout the film as the line between reality and the dream realm becomes increasingly unstable.

With "Drift Away", IATT reveal a more atmospheric and emotionally nuanced side of their sound while maintaining the depth and ambition that define their work. The single provides an early glimpse into an album and film experience built on immersion, symbolism, and evolving sonic landscapes, inviting listeners to step beyond the surface of consciousness and into the etheric realms waiting beneath.
