Holding Absence Announce Sumerian Records Signing "Whisper Of A Dream" Single And Music Video Out Now

South Wales trio Holding Absence today release "Whisper Of A Dream", their first new music since 2023’s ‘The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction’ and their first for new label Sumerian Records.

This track captures what it means to be human when hope feels out of reach. Holding Absence explore the tension between numbness and healing, tapping into a state so dark it feels almost inhuman. It is a search for something better, while watching it slip further away. Sitting between emotional hardcore and alternative, Holding Absence lean into deep vulnerability, pulling listeners into a world shaped by their lyrics and striking visual identity. The single also marks the introduction of a character that will unfold across the album campaign.

Speaking of "Whisper Of A Dream", frontman Lucas Woodland shares:

'Whisper Of A Dream' is our first song back in what feels like forever. After releasing our third record, 'The Noble Art Of Self-Destruction', it felt essential to step away for a while - to take stock and rediscover who we are as a band. "Whisper" felt like the perfect song to return with. In many ways, it represents everything Holding Absence has always been, while introducing new elements to our sound and opening the door to what comes next.

Lyrically and conceptually, the song draws heavily from cyberpunk media. Contemplation, sentience and dreaming in an ever-evolving world. The music video also introduces our robot mascot “Y4-BB0”, a character you’ll be seeing more of in the coming years.

By signing off ‘The Noble Art of Self-Destruction’ with a stark “3/3”, Holding Absence made a promise - to set fire to everything they, and their fans, thought they knew about the band. After nearly a decade of carving out a home in their post hardcore terrain, 'TNAOSD'was a final, defiant love letter to themselves - a wild, muddy exorcism of all they had been, and all that fans had grown to love about them… But the end of that campaign posed some cold, hard questions: What do we lose? And what do we keep? What does it mean - and has it meant - to the thousands of fans across the world adorned with the moth tattoo? And how do we carry out this metamorphosis without losing that?

Holding Absence is emotion. It is vulnerability and honesty. It’s the raindrops that trickle down your face on a cold walk home... The wind that blows across your cheeks as the sky splits open at sunrise. If you can feel it - raw and human - it is Holding Absence. North American fans will also have their chance to see the band beginning next month at Welcome To Rockville on Thursday, May 7and at Sonic Temple the following week on Thursday, May 14. Holding Absence will also be bringing the heat to Louder Than Life on Friday, September 18 and Aftershock on Thursday, October 1 this fall. Capstan Share Double Singles "Bete Noire" + "Heart to Heart"

Florida five-piece CAPSTAN — Anthony DeMario [vocals], Joe Mabry [guitar], Harrison Bormann [guitar], Andrew "Boz" Bozymowski [bass, vocals], and Scott Fisher [drums] — have shared a double single!

Today, fans can listen to "
Bête Noire" and "Heart to Heart."

"'Bête Noire' criticizes a broken system that rewards greed and exploitation while leaving ordinary people in suffering," the band shares. "The song calls for collective action to challenge this unjust status quo and emphasize the need to dismantle the oppressive structures that perpetuate inequality. The repeated chorus lyric of 'Hail to the thief' underscores the message of resistance against those who benefit from this system at the expense of others."

The song is truly a carnival of sounds – thinks gnarly riffs, moshy breakdowns, alternately sung and screamed vocals, and experimental, unusual, and upbeat melodies. It's a gloriously dizzying and layered mix.

The band has also dropped the video for "Heart to Heart." Watch the clip, featuring Belmont and Jason Tyler,
below.

Sonically, the song harks back to the glory days of Warped Tour, pop-punk, and emo with its vocal harmonies, singalong choruses, rowdy riffery, and standout solos. It's the best kind of throwback since it transports you to a time long since past — without OD'ing on nostalgia. It also has a very poignant lyrical lean.

"'Heart to Heart' depicts a heartfelt and comforting conversation between partners," Capstan explain. "The lyrics acknowledge the speaker's own shortcomings in listening and paying attention but emphasizes the enduring love and connection they share. The chorus highlights the importance of open communication and vulnerability in their relationship, inviting the other person to let their guard down and be themselves. The song is a message of love, understanding, and the power of shared moments."

Captan are touring next year with Holding Absence.

Holding Absence Announce New Album "The Noble Art Of Self Destruction" + Share "False Dawn" Video — WATCH🤗

HOLDING ABSENCE have announced the release of their third album The Noble Art Of Self Destruction. Serving as the third and final entry in a trilogy that began with 2019's Holding Absence, The Noble Art Of Self Destruction will be released on August 25 via SharpTone Records.

In the wake of the album announce, the band comments, "Today, we are pleased to announce the third Holding Absence album The Noble Art of Self Destruction will be released on August 25! After an insanely busy and fulfilling album cycle for our second record, last October we spent a month in Jukasa Studios Canada, to record more new music. This record — the third in a trilogy — is by far our most conceptually rich and expansive body of work to date. We feel like these songs are almost a love letter to everything Holding Absence, and can't wait to show everybody just how much space we have managed to cover, and how hard we were able to push ourselves with these songs."

False Dawn."

"We are ecstatic to be dropping our brand new single 'False Dawn' today," the band says. "This is definitely a personal favorite for all of us on the record! A somewhat defeatist song about denouncing expectations, and coming to grips with failure, this song is a quintessential Holding Absence song, with its uptempo energy and downtrodden introspection. We hope you enjoy!"
