FEUERSCHWANZ – New Album 'Fegefeuer' to be Released on July 7, 2023

Top-charting German force, FEUERSCHWANZ, will release their new studio album, 'Fegefeuer', on July 7, 2023 via Napalm Records! The successor to 2021’s acclaimed 'Memento Mori' (#1 Official German Album Charts) is fully dedicated to metal and thus consistently continues the band's path away from their comedic rock roots of days gone by.

Today, the band has already released the album's first single, "Bastard von Asgard" feat. Eluveitie singer Fabienne Erni (in German!), alongside an official music video - a straight Heavy Metal track in pure FEUERSCHWANZ style! In the official music video, Fabienneembodies the Bastard of Asgard as a shapeshifter who transforms into a real (!) wolf to attack Hauptmann Feuerschwanz. The video ends in an epic battle between Hodi and the Bastard.

FEUERSCHWANZ on "Bastard von Asgard":

"With this song, we pay our rightful tribute to the old gods! It is set in the saga world of the Vikings and deals with end of the world of betrayal and deceit. Odin's son meets Loki's bastard - with vocal support from Fabienne Erni, singer of the folk metal pioneers Eluveite! To do justice to the epic saga, we have turned the speed up to full blast and march toward the end of the world. Ragnarök can come!"

Formed in 2004, the band has gradually shifted from their roots in comedic medieval folk into a much more serious direction. With the switch to Napalm Records ahead of the release of 'Das Elfte Gebot' (2020), FEUERSCHWANZ set their sights entirely on metal - soon becoming one of the most relevant German bands in the genre today. The band’s enormously successful previous album of original music, 'Memento Mori' (2021), even stormed the official German charts, peaking at #1. On 'Fegefeuer', FEUERSCHWANZ spice up their medieval inspired folk metal with true heavy metal influences!

'Fegefeuer' kicks off with outstanding opening track “SGFRD Dragonslayer”. Lyrical references to the legendary Siegfried Dragonslayer combine with heavy riffing and Nordic mythology. Successor “Bastard von Asgard” features beautiful vocals by Eluveitie’s Fabienne Erni. The catchy viking party anthem “Berzerkermode” calls for the listener to join the celebration and “party like a viking”, while the first three tracks, as well as heavy “Highlander”, are best proof of the band’s evolution from comedy rock to metal. Other tracks like the intense title track “Fegefeuer”, Lord of the Rings battle chant Uruk-Hai”and “Die Horde” will be long-time fan favorites.

'Fegefeuer' stays lyrically true to trademark topics, exploring long forgotten legends and heroic battles, and shows off the band’s extraordinary musical skills. The album will be available in various formats, with some containing the live bonus album “Live in Wacken 2022”, which includes a recording of their co-headline show from the holy fields. With their new release, FEUERSCHWANZ clearly confirm their outstanding position at the top of the German metal scene!

FEUERSCHWANZ Release Cover of ABBA’s “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!”

Taken from First Covers Album,

'Todsünden', out December 30, 2022

Pre-Order NOW!

A sinful new covers album by FEUERSCHWANZ!

Storming the German charts with their previous #1 album, 'Memento Mori', the hottest German folk rock band FEUERSCHWANZ return – inviting fans on the most exciting journey through time. Presenting the greatest (and worst) earworms in the history of music, the spectacular covers album, 'Todsünden', will be released December 30, 2022 – exactly one year after the release of 'Memento Mori' – via Napalm Records.

The album includes two completely new songs, as well as the cover bonus tracks from their last two studio albums.

The album’s newest single, the band’s adaptation of ABBA’s Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)”, takes you straight back to the arcades of 40 years ago! This track’s existence in itself is a result of a bet made within the band. They agreed that if their latest studio album, 'Memento Mori', entered the German charts above the Swedish legends, they would cover this song. Lo and behold, the results were overwhelmingly positive, yielding this new ABBA cover!

Premiering alongside an official music video, the characteristic elements of FEUERSCHWANZ meld together with the legacy of Swedish pop heroes ABBA!

Feuerschwanz states:

“‘The world definitely needs another ABBA cover!’ That must have gone through Hodi's head when he made a highly dubious bet on New Year's Eve 2021/22. If 'Memento Mori'beats 'Voyage' by ABBA in the German album charts, we will create a cover version! Hodi, as a self-confessed non-fan of the Swedish band, then had to admit two things to himself: Firstly, 'Memento Mori' reached number 1, so he has to make the bet true. Secondly, the ABBA songs are not bad at all - quite the opposite! So listen to the folk metal version of ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!’ - I wonder if there was mead involved? Certainly. Does the world really NEED ANOTHER ABBA cover? Probably not. Mea culpa. Mea maxima culpa.“

Watch the enchanting music video

Genre exploration and loads of fun aside, amidst it all, FEUERSCHWANZ clearly showcase their musical skills and development on 'Todsünden', convincing with ultra-elaborate sound. In particular, vocalists Hauptmann and Hodi flex their deft skillset, from skyscraper 80s-style falsettos to deep growling and even rapping (as evident on their cover of Deichkind’s Limit”).

So jump on board this thrilling musical ride and witness FEUERSCHWANZ conquering a kaleidoscope of musical styles with ease!

Proving their versatility with every single song on this album, FEUERSCHWANZovercome linguistic, musical and genre-specific limitations and unite the tavern in a sonic feast.

Effortlessly combining different genres, the medieval folk rock geniuses reinterpret everything from pop to punk rock to metal hits without ever losing their own characteristic sound. From beloved evergreens like “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” to chart toppers like their latest release “Blinding Lights”, everyone will find their favorite.

With humble support from musicians like Melissa Bonny (Ad Infinitum), Saltatio Mortis, and Angus McSix, 'Todsünden' is a musical spectacle beyond compare.

This exciting ride starts off with a cover of Swedish pop legends ABBA.

FEUERSCHWANZ give their world-famous song “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!” a folk rock vibe with a gloomy but still uplifting atmosphere bursting into heavy riffing and drumming. Another pop-tinged rock song of legend is covered with Europe‘s “The Final Countdown”, but the album also features current highlights like “Blinding Lights“, Ed Sheeran’s “I See Fire” and “Ding” by Seed featuring Ad Infinitum’s Melissa Bonny. Punk rock tracks like “The Bad Touch” by the glorious Bloodhound Gang or tracks by German bands like “Hier kommt Alex” by Die Toten Hosen or “Der Graf” by Die Ärzte – a track that FEUERSCHWANZ honor with their very own trademark by telling ancient tales in their own fabulous way.

Similar treatment is given to “Engel” by German legends Rammstein, as FEUERSCHWANZ pick up the story and dress it in their own folkloristic gloomy sound, while in its new version, former European summer hit “Dragoesta Din Tei” throws the listener directly into a wild Viking party, releasing medieval power that will have them out of their seat in no time.

In honor of the metal scene, FEUERSCHWANZ present their very own version of Amon Amarth’s “Twilight of the Thunder God” but give it a new spin by turning it into a medieval hymn with 80s rock vibes. Other famous tracks include covers of Ghost’s “Square Hammer”, a turn at Powerwolf‘s “Amen and Attack” pumped with chanting violins, Sabaton’s “Gott Mit Uns”, and the all-time classic “Warriors of the World” by the one and only Manowar, which they present together with honorable guests Angus McSix, Saltatio Mortis and Melissa Bonny.

Hodi states:

“A song from 2020, but with REALLY heavy 80s vibes. And all that, although I was born in 1990! This is really great songwriting that we have brought into the medieval and metal world. Bon Jovi with bagpipes. I always think of a vampire singing about the sun when I hear this song. ‘I can't sleep until i feel your touch.’”

FEUERSCHWANZ Releases Video for “Skaldenmet” – Live from the Tavern

#1 Album, Memento Mori, Marks Seventh Consecutive Week on the Official German Album Charts

Get Your Copy HERE!

Following their massive German chart entry at #1, the new FEUERSCHWANZ album, Memento Mori, has already landed its seventh consecutive week on the official German album charts. Today, the band has released a video for "Skaldenmet", recorded during the livestream for the album release on New Year's Eve, December 31, 2021. It is already the seventh video the German group has released from their successful album.

FEUERSCHWANZ on “Skaldenmet”:

"From our legendary album release livestream for Memento Mori – “Skaldenmet” live from the Tavern! Join us and let Hauptmann Feuerschwanz take you into the epic world of Norse mythology over mead and firelight!"

Watch the Video for FEUERSCHWANZ’s “Skaldenmet

FEUERSCHWANZ on the background of "Skaldenmet" in Norse mythology:

"After the war (Æsir– Vanir Var) between the two peoples of the gods, all the gods spat into a barrel to seal peace. From this saliva an extraordinarily wise being named Kvasir was born. This was murdered by the two black elves Fjallarr and Galarr and its blood was collected in one mighty and two small cauldrons. From the blood, with the addition of honey, they brewed a mead, through the consumption of which anyone could become a poet.

After that, the two dwarves killed the giant Gillingr and his wife, but were caught by the giant's son, Suttungr, and could only save their lives by offering him the mead. Suttungr accepted the offer and kept the Skaldenmet in Mount Hnitbjörg, where his daughter Gunnlöð guarded it.

In order to get the Skaldenmet, Odin slipped into Mount Hnitbjörg in the form of a snake. After spending three nights with the giant daughter Gunnlöð, she gave him three sips of the mead in thanks. Thereupon Odin turned into an eagle and flew to Asgard. There he spewed the mead into the bowls of the Aesir..."

On Memento Mori, FEUERSCHWANZ finally make the step away from the simpler humor of earlier days, to one of the most important bands in German Folk-Rock!

With chanting violin playing, Memento Mori starts its heroic journey with its eponymous opener. The song turns out to be a melodic rock anthem with a well-known medieval character, a blazing guitar riff and life-affirming lyrics. On "Untot im Drachenboot", the squad around Hauptmann Feuerschwanz sets off for new musical shores in a Viking ship full of undead warriors. "Rausch der Barberei", on the other hand delivers a violent, raw voice and driving drumming that send its listeners into unbridled frenzy. On "Krampus", FEUERSCHWANZ sing in a canon of vocals and instruments about the ancient legend of the demonic companion of St. Nicholas, who is dressed in fur and a horned mask. On the ballad "Das Herz eines Drachen" (The Heart of a Dragon), the medieval folk rockers show their sensible side. In a fire lit by burning guitar sounds and flute melodies, a warrior mourns his fallen father with his head held high. "Hannibal" on the other hand embarks on a raging battle of powerful choirs, swirling violin and guitar solos and driving drums, led by army commander Hannibal. The crowning finale of the almost 40-minute adventure is provided by "Skaldenmet" with its proudly advancing bass.

In trademark FEUERSCHWANZ style, Memento Mori is about great adventures, historic battles and outstanding heroic deeds. FEUERSCHWANZ manage to stay true to their trademarks and at the same time venture into new musical realms. Fans of the band can look forward to an extensive deluxe edition of the album, which extends the running time of Memento Mori by almost double! Two additional CDs feature instrumental versions of all eleven tracks as well as the cover CD Die Glorreichen Sieben (The Magnificent Seven), which includes seven epic reissues from Amon Amarth to Die Ärzte and The Weeknd.

FEUERSCHWANZ on the new album:

“You take nothing with you to your grave, except your coffin... Memento Mori is the direct successor to Die Letzte Schlacht! The world of Hauptmann Feuerschwanz is in flames, overrun by the living dead and scourged by religious zealots... All of this sounds frighteningly real, even in Anno Domini 2021, so it's time to defy the storm once again and celebrate life. Let's live here, let's live now - until death sharpens his knife!”

FEUERSCHWANZ once again shows their exceptional ability to make non-metal songs their own. The combination between metal music archetypes and dance rhythms is simply irresistible for any music enthusiast – it is simply impossible not to sing along to this track!

FEUERSCHWANZ on “Dragostea Din Tei”:

“When we decided to cover this song, we also did not know where the journey will go! In the end, it became a horde of Vikings, who row to Mallorca to party hard at the Ballermann! In addition, the song is a special premiere – our first song in Romanian!”

Free Album Release Livestream with FEUERSCHWANZ on New Years Eve 3:30 PM CET/ 9:30 AM EST

Germany's number one medieval folk rockers, FEUERSCHWANZ, are waiting with a very special Christmas present. "Krampus" already is the fourth official music video, after "Untot Im Drachenboot", "Memento Mori", and "Warriors Of The World United (feat. Thomas Winkler, Saltatio Mortis, Melissa Bonny)" – the latter has been in the Top 20 of the YouTube trend charts.

Which song could fit better to a FEUERSCHWANZ Christmas than "Krampus"? The demonic companion of St. Nicholas is impressively depicted in the accompanying music video as an unholy seducer. The single shows once again the musical range of the band, which finally says goodbye to medieval fun rock on Memento Mori and releases a song with strong melodic powermetal influences.

FEUERSCHWANZ on “Krampus“:

“When the days are shortest and the twelve days of Christmas approach, the winds move through the air with a frightful groaning and moaning, then you best lock yourself up at home and close the windows, because Krampus is doing his rounds again! The video and the song is our Christmas gift to you - may it bring you well through the holiday season! If we may also wish something from you, it would be that you order our new album! Happy holidays to all of you!”

"Hannibal" on the other hand embarks on a raging battle of powerful choirs, swirling violin and guitar solos and driving drums, led by army commander Hannibal. The crowning finale of the almost 40-minute adventure is provided by "Skaldenmet" with its proudly advancing bass.

In typical FEUERSCHWANZ manner, Memento Mori is about great adventures, past battles and outstanding heroic deeds. FEUERSCHWANZ manage to stay true to their trademarks and at the same time venture into new musical realms. Fans of the band can look forward to an extensive deluxe edition of the album, which extends the running time of Memento Moriby almost double!

“Memento Mori – Cause you take nothing with you to your grave, except your coffin”

Just recently, Germany's medieval folk rockers FEUERSCHWANZ announced their upcoming studio album, Memento Mori. Now, FEUERSCHWANZ present a true ode to life with "Memento Mori", accompanied with a great audio-visual, which reveals the secret about the title track of the upcoming full-length.

With singing guitars, "Memento Mori" starts its heroic journey through epic soundscapes. The song emerges as a melodic rock anthem with familiar medieval character full of blazing guitar riffs and violin solos. Lyrically, FEUERSCHWANZ encourage self-reflection on one's own existence in "Memento Mori" and confront with human transience, following the motto of living your life to the fullest - right here and right now.

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Prinz Hodenherz on the new song:

"The title track of the new album is the logical continuation of our previous album Das Elfte Gebot. The saying "Memento Mori" (Latin for "Be aware of mortality") originates from ancient Rome and was one of the main ideas in the poetry of the High Middle Ages as well as the Vanitas movement of German Romanticism. It is still a frequently quoted motif in the visual arts world today. In the song, the Gregorian chant "Dies Irae" (Latin for "Day of Wrath") is quoted with bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and Hans’ heavy guitars.

Nerdfact: If you listen closely, you will also find the central motif of world-famous film scores, including the soundtrack of "The Lord of the Rings"!

What does all this have to do with FEUERSCHWANZ? Since the band was founded, it has always been about living in the here and now and celebrating existence. In ancient Rome there was a ritual where a slave stood or walked behind the victorious commander during the triumphal procession. He held a gold or laurel wreath over the head of the victorious and continuously admonished them with the waits "Memento Mori". To us this means: Even if you have something to celebrate - everything could be over at any moment! That's kind of what happened to us when we played by far our biggest headlining shows shortly before the pandemic began and our most successful album, Das Elfte Gebot, was released. For us as a band, it was a formative experience that united us even more and allowed us to look forward creatively.

We are looking forward to experiencing, enjoying and capturing all the great concert moments again together with our fans on Memento Mori... as if the ferryman was already standing by.

We invite everyone who, like us, thirsts for life."

Shortly following their live BluRay/DVD Die Letzte Schlacht debuting on the German album charts at #4, FEUERSCHWANZ announced their new studio album, Memento Mori. Limited 7" Picture Vinyl out April 22, 2021 via Napalm Records

Pre-Order NOW!

FEUERSCHWANZ goes Black Metal!

German medieval rock masters FEUERSCHWANZ have released a black metal version of their own tremendous hit “Schubsetanz” together with an official video. The song will be available as a strictly limited 7'' picture vinyl, out April 22, 2021 via Napalm Records, which also includes a live version of "Kampfzwerg" (Fighting Dwarf) from the band’s latest chart-breaking studio album, Das Elfte Gebot (GER #3).

FEUERSCHWANZ premiered this diabolic offering for the first time at a recently-celebrated concert live stream, Die Letzte Schlacht. "Schubsetanz (Black Metal Version)" showcases a whole new facet of the six-piece in the most trve and evil way.

FEUERSCHWANZ about the song:

"'Schubsetanz ist Rittersport' (Schubsetanz is a sport made for knights) - for years this song from the album Methämmer is a fan favourite at our concerts! We love the moment when hordes of metal-clad heavy metal warriors unite for the most beautiful of all dance styles, full of grace and violence: The 'Schubsetanz'! That's why the song made it onto the setlist of our legendary 11:0:A gig and was celebrated there in a special, corona-compliant way - packed into airtight rubber balls and to the sound of a specially created black metal version, we celebrated the moshpit - 2020 corona style!

However, fans noticed that this unpolished rough diamond in all its raw violence deserved its own version and immediately started an online petition demanding a full-length version.

We, as humble servants of our fans, spared no expense and effort and descended through the nine circles of hell, broke the seventh seal and snatched the tape from the incarnate himself, where those sounds were banned, that should have been hidden."

FEUERSCHWANZ in corpse paint with blast beats and double bass - what sounds like an incompatible mix turns out to be a perfect symbiosis on "Schubsetanz (Black Metal Version)". Hauptmann Feuerschwanz and his comrades-in-arms show us their dark and evil side in incomparable FEUERSCHWANZ style on this exquisite cover of their own hit single. As a bonus track, the vinyl’s B-side will feature a live version of "Kampfzwerg" (Fighting Dwarf), recorded at the live stream event Die Letzte Schlacht. Both tracks will be available digitally as well.

Schubsetanz (Black Metal Version) will be available in the following formats:

German medieval rock masters FEUERSCHWANZ have released the official music video for the song "Hier kommt Alex" (english: Here Comes Alex). The song - originally written and performed by Die Toten Hosen - comes off their covers album Die Sieben Todsünden, the bonus to their brand new album Das Elfte Gebot which was released on June 26 and landed at #3 on the official German album charts, where it remained for 8 consecutive weeks.

Commented the band: ""In einer Welt in der man nur noch lebt, damit man täglich roboten geht..." (In a world in which you only live, so you can function every day...) This line seems depressingly real in these strange times - even though, back in 1988, Die Toten Hosen were inspired by Anthony Burgess' novel "A Clockwork Orange" as well as the movie of the same name by Stanley Kubrick, to write this huge German rock classic! We love the song as well as the movie and its eerie message and thus put it into a medieval sound. Let's ascend to Burg Abenberg again, harken Mieze Myus' gentle harp before we shout: Hier kommt Alex!"

Das Elfte Gebot also includes the bonus cover album Die Sieben Todsünden (except for the CD Jewel Case Version) containing seven cover versions of songs not only by internationally acclaimed artists like Seeed and Ed Sheeran but also Rammstein, Powerwolf and Sabaton.

To celebrate the release, the band performed an exclusive online open air at Burg Abenberg the same day. The recording can be viewed here.

Das Elfte Gebot is the successor to 2018's Methämmer, which went straight to #6 of the German album charts.

German medieval rock masters FEUERSCHWANZ have released the official music video for their song "Im Bauch des Wals" (english: In The Belly Of The Whale). The song comes off their brand new album Das Elfte Gebot which was released on June 26 and landed at #3 on the official German album charts, where it remained for 8 consecutive weeks.

Commented the band: "'Im Bauch des Wals' is about a majestic sea creature who did not swallow biblical Jona, but rather so much man made plastic that it eventually dies and sinks into the ocean.

The ship that Hodi and Hauptmann discovered on their trip to England went aground just before Land's End in 2003 on its way from Cork (Ireland) to Lübeck - with 2200 tons of plastic on board.

Ever since then it's right there at the beach, moaning and groaning whenever the high waves hit - just like a stranded whale dying...

We tried to capture the eerie and somehow mystical vibes of that place for you. A place where you go like: What kind of planet are we leaving to our descendants? One thing's for sure: a whole lot of plastic waste."

German medieval rock masters FEUERSCHWANZ have released the official music video for their song "Malleus Maleficarum". The song comes off their brand new album Das Elfte Gebot which was released on June 26 and landed at #3 on the official German album charts.

Commented the band: "The Witch Hammer (lat. Malleus Maleficarum) is a pamphlet to legitimize the witch hunt and was released by Dominican Heinrich Kramer in 1486. He tried to cement his misogyny religiously and called everyone opposed to the witch hunt heretics!

With heavy Black Sabbath- or Dio-esque riffs, medieval bagpipes and hurdy gurdies as well as monks' choirs in the vein of Ghost we show you a bleak world of medieval fake news! The high castle is set ablaze as our kitties won't be oppressed!"

The band recently released the live music video for „Metfest“ (Stream/Watch) as well as the music video for the title track (Stream/Watch) and the Ed Sheeran cover of "I See Fire" (Stream/Watch). the Seeed cover "Ding" (Stream the single here / View the video here) the Powerwolf cover "Amen & Attack" (Stream the single here / View the video here) and "Meister der Minne"

FEUERSCHWANZ - Release Official Music Video For "Meister Der Minne"

German medieval rock masters FEUERSCHWANZ have released the official music video for their song "Meister der Minne". The song comes off their brand new album Das Elfte Gebot which was released on June 26 and landed #3 of the official German album charts.

Commented the band: "As a thank you for your incredible support we present to you yet another music video. If Iron Maiden and "A Knight's Tale" as well as Bon Jovi and "Men In Tights" each had a child and those two would beget an heir during a hot and sticky night on the highest tower of castle FEUERSCHWANZ: THIS would be the result!

Expect an epic battle of the sexes, bold riffs from 1001 nights, earth-shaking bass, tight leggings and loose morals as well as guitar solos worthy of a minstrel. Who will win? Our Hodi as himself or the incredible Lenora as his well armored opponent? We present: Meister der Minne!"

The band recently released the live music video for „Metfest“ (Stream/Watch) as well as the music video for the title track (Stream/Watch) and the Ed Sheeran cover of "I See Fire" (Stream/Watch). the Seeed cover "Ding" (Stream the single here / View the video here) and the Powerwolf cover "Amen & Attack" (Stream the single here / View the video here).
