New England extreme metal powerhouse, Escuela Grind today drops the new single/video, 'Always Watching You.'

“Most of "Always Watching You" was written in a practice space by Jesse and Krissy, and refined during soundchecks we had over the year," offers Escuela Grind vocalist Katerina Economou . "I've had this desire to write a song where I could portray the obsessive-stalker-girl archetype through lyrics for a while. Although not physically threatening, it's really interesting that society is so terrified of this stereotype. In "Always Watching You", I wanted this fantastical, Nightmare on Elm Street-style imagery that was rooted in the gore and horror of death metal. Themes of parasocial relationships, anxieties from social media, and an omnipresent algorithm are strongly observed in this song and throughout the entire album."

"While it's unlikely that any grindcore band could scale to Sleep Tokenor Turnstile heights, Escuela Grind would be the ones to pull it off," says Revolver.

Recorded with Will Killingsworth, mixed by the GRAMMY-winning Kurt Ballou (High on Fire), and mastered by Nick Townsend (Cheap Trick, Dr. Dre), the EP houses four new songs including the lead cut, "Ball and Chain", and "Meat Magnet", featuring a guest appearance by Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway.

Fresh off U.S. spotlight tour dates with Baroness, and the extreme metal legends, Napalm Death, who took the young U.S. band under its proverbial wing in 2023, Escuela Grind is inarguably one of the hungriest young groups in music today. Escuela Grind has engaged in a seemingly unending live gauntlet since the September 2022 release of its LP, 'Memory Theater', relentlessly trekking the globe to bring its eye-opening energy and sound to welcoming music fans the world over.

In sync with the release of 'DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL', Escuela Grind has kicked off a massive U.S. headlining tour, which launched on January 10. The five-week, 39-city winter trek will criss-cross the country, running through February 17. Support on the Escuela Grind tour is provided by Take Offense, Come Meirda, Slow Pulse, Bonginator, Frog Mallet, and Brat.

Watch Escuela Grind's new video for "Meat Magnet”

New England extreme metal powerhouse, Escuela Grind, will release the new EP, 'DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL', this Friday, January 12, 2024.

Today, Escuela Grind releases a video for "Meat Magnet", directed by Michael Jari Davidson (Alice In Chains). The unsettling cut features a vox-off between the aforementioned Greenway and Escuela Grind vocalist Katerina Economou interspliced with exhilarating live footage of the band tearing it down.

Escuela Grind's 'DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL' EP is the crown jewel in a themed trilogy of releases, including the duo of 2020 EPs 'PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE' and 'GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE', which saw the band espousing its unique takes on the respective underground music sub-genres. 'DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL' delivers the first new Escuela Grind music since the release of last year's celebrated full-length LP, 'Memory Theater', hailed by The New York Times as ''an opus of extremity", "witheringly intense yet righteously life-affirming" by SPIN, "the heaviest Escuela Grind have ever sounded" by Decibel, and both "a masterclass in punishing, invigorating grindcore" and "a fascinatingly intellectual take on the genre" by Revolver.

'DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL' is the third installment of our EP series where we dive into the genres that most influence this band," offers Economou. "Finishing this trilogy has been years in the works. We are so excited to release these songs as they are perhaps the best reflection of our live performance. The stage has honed these hectic songs to perfection. Originally we were going to have three songs on this EP, but we wanted to create another track that had a huge buildup. This eventually developed into this brutal song, "Ball and Chain", that marks the point in our live shows where we have a wall of death every night. Lyrically, it references death metal tropes of murder and revenge, but with a decidedly feminine angle."

ABOUT THE PULSE OF MAGGOTS x SXSW SHOWCASE LINEUP:

THE CALLOUS DAOBOYS:
Earning comparative nods to mathcore lineage like Botch and Converge, the sextet package a cacophony of organized chaos in a performance on 2022's Celebrity Therapist  that is purely volatile.

CREEPING DEATH:
Practitioners of Texas heft, Creeping Death have taken up the torch for the modern era of death metal. The band's Edge of Existence EP was hailed for it classic and contemporary take on the genre such that their forthcoming 2023 release is among the most anticipated of the year.

ESCUELA GRIND:
The New England grindcore unit proved relentless on their 2022 full length, Memory Theater. Paying homage to their predecessors like Napalm Death, Brutal Truth, and early Carcass, the technical prowess in tandem with the sheer brutality of the band make them among extreme music’s most promising prospects.

MILITARIE GUN:
Dynamic songwriters well beyond their years, L.A.'s Militarie Gun have a knack for crafting tunes that stick. Their All Roads Lead to the Gun ushered in a new era of post-hardcore brilliance that leaned heavily on memorable hooks, punchy guitars and a '90s angst executed with grit and guts.

SOUL GLO:
The Philly hardcore standouts scored a massive win in 2022 with the release of their universally acclaimed, Diaspora Problems. Praised for their biting social commentary and frenzied execution, they are among the most exciting, emerging names in the landscape of contemporary hardcore.

VCTMS:
The Chicago aggressors and DIY riders spent most of 2022 touring in support of their Vol. IV: Numb the Ache LP. Ending the year with the reveal of the single, "The Dearly Beloved," the band's layered assault and musical bombast makes for an impressive show of force.
