Founded in Stockholm, Sweden, as an ambitious vision by its creator, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Zorn (ex-DARK FUNERAL), with the goal of realizing his interpretation of the ultimate concept band - a complete fusion of music, narrative, and visual storytelling. Since its inception, the band has set out to redefine the traditional "metal meets symphony" approach, developing a sound that blends cinematic orchestration with a powerful heavy metal backbone and strong influences from melodic death metal, all driven by a distinct sense for epic, memorable melodies.

At the core of ZORNHEYM lies a dark and expanding narrative universe. Each album unfolds within the walls of the mental asylum Zornheim - a place shrouded in mystery, madness, and horror - where the institution itself becomes the central character. Across releases, the band explores different eras of its sinister history through layered storytelling, recurring themes, and hidden connections. This concept was introduced on their debut album Where Hatred Dwells and Darkness Reigns (2017) and further expanded on the critically acclaimed The Zornheim Sleep Experiment (2021), followed by the acoustic EP The Forgotten Inmates (2023), which completed the first chapter of the asylum’s story.

ZORNHEYM’s artistic vision extends far beyond music. Their albums are accompanied by detailed visual concepts and graphic novels, bringing the asylum and its inmates to life in another dimension, while their music videos are produced as short films that further immerse the audience in the band’s universe.

On stage, ZORNHEYM transforms into a theatrical experience led by frontman Bendler, whose commanding presence draws the audience deep into the asylum’s grip. On special occasions, actors become part of the performance, elevating the show beyond a traditional concert into a dark and immersive spectacle.

Swedish symphonic metal visionaries ZORNHEYM unleash the third single, "The Funeral March", taken from the band’s upcoming studio album Descending Into Madness, set for release on October 2 via Noble Demon.

Inspired by Frédéric Chopin’s legendary 'Funeral March', the new track sees ZORNHEYM merging crushing riffs, cinematic orchestration and subtle Scandinavian folk influences into one of the album’s most dramatic and emotionally charged moments.

"'The Funeral March' is the perfect marriage between classical music and Zornheym’s cinematic symphonic metal sound,” the band explains. "The choir takes on the role of mourners and pallbearers, lamenting the tragic fate of Dr. Bettelheim’s beloved wife as they accompany her final journey. Lyrically, the song marks the defining moment in Dr. Bettelheim’s descent into madness, as grief, guilt and despair finally consume him."

ZORNHEYM Unleash Epic Album Opener "Deus Rex"; "Descending Into Madness" Out October 2 via Noble Demon!

Swedish symphonic metal visionaries ZORNHEYM present their second single and music video "Deus Rex", taken from their upcoming studio album Descending Into Madness, set for release on October 2nd via Noble Demon.

Following the first glimpse into the new chapter with "Somewhere Far Beyond", the band now unveils a track that opens the album in a fast, heavy and cinematic way. "Deus Rex"serves as the prologue to the wider narrative of Descending Into Madness and dives deeper into the dark history of the Zornheim asylum universe.

"We knew we wanted a fast, heavy-hitting epic as the opener for Descending Into Madness",says mastermind Zorn. "The first idea that came to mind was an unreleased Devian song that was originally written for the third album. So this track is co-written with Emil Dragutinovic (ex-Marduk, ex-Devian, ex-The Legion). It started from his original idea, blended with some of mine. We kept the core spirit of it but fully ‘Zornheymified’ the song - I wrote new parts, and Scucca added the choir break. The result absolutely rips."

He continues: "From a story perspective, this song serves as the prologue to the entire prequel. It takes us back to a time when the asylum functioned as a field hospital during the Thirty Years’ War, and to the dreadful night when a group of deserters were brutally executed by the shores of Sêlasee (the lake near the asylum) and hanged from the old oak. It also briefly touches on the period when the place served as a sanatorium for the dying."
