Comeback Kid Release Video for 20th Anniversary Version of Classic Song "Wake the Dead"

Winnipeg hardcore band COMEBACK KID are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their seminal album WAKE THE DEAD.

The band is releasing a re-recorded version of the title track of the record.

"The title track of our album Wake The Dead, which that we released two decades ago, provided us with more opportunities and brought us to more places around the world than we could have ever imagined," remembers singer Andrew Neufeld with fondness for how the album impacted the band's life and that of fans. "The song lands as the biggest moment in every single set that we've played — from Asia through South America to Europe, Africa, and North America."

He continues, "We wrote and recorded the song while I was still playing guitar in the band. After 19 years of being the vocalist, and singing the song every night, we would like to celebrate and commemorate a song that gave us wings that we never knew existed by re-recording it with our current lineup and with a fresh mix provided by Will Putney."

Watch the video for the re-done version of the song Below:

Neufeld finishes, "We will be releasing the single alongside an unreleased B-side from the original 2005 Wake The Dead recording sessions on 7", along with a number of variations of the full length re-pressed with new packaging!"

The 20th anniversary edition of the song was recorded by John Paul Peters and mixed and mastered by the aforementioned Putney.

Comeback Kid are also embarking on the album's 20th anniversary tour later this month. They will of course play the album in its entirety. It's no coincidence that the first show is in the band's hometown on the date of the original's release — February 22.

About Comeback Kid
Over the last twenty years, COMEBACK KID has been hailed as one of the major counterparts when it has come to shaping and pioneering both the Canadian and international modern punk and hardcore sound and scene alike.

Having formed in Winnipeg, and breaking into the mainstream with 2005’s career-defining, Wake The Dead, COMEBACK KID broke boundaries and both literally and musically stormed across new terrains, projecting the once underground genre on a globally touring scale alongside the likes of then Victory Records label mates, EARTH CRISIS, TERROR, and REFUSED.

“We’re a hardcore band, but we don’t feel like we belong to any particular sect of that,” states Neufeld alongside band members, Jeremy Hiebert (guitar, FIGURE FOUR), Stu Ross (guitar, MISERY SIGNALS), Chase Brenneman (bass, LIVING WITH LIONS), and Loren Legare (drums, LIVING WITH LIONS). “We don’t want to be limited in any sense and prefer to work on our own terms.”

Now with their seventh record on the horizon, the band is defining what it means to be both an integral, yet impressive unit within both the foundation and edges of punk.

"We are over the moon to finally put out "Heavy Steps",” shares lead vocalist Andrew Neufeld. “This album's journey started 2 years ago when the pandemic hit and has brought us here today as one of the most collaborative efforts we have had the privilege to be involved in. From writing the album from across the country to meeting Winnipeg to jam and eventually record. Having a mixer like Will Putney gets involved and brings the sonic elements to life. It has truly been an honor.”

Alongside the album release, COMEBACK KID has unveiled a high-energy live performance video directed by Dylan Gould for the focus track “Face the Fire”.

Neufeld had this to say about their latest video, “We were finally able to operate as a band again and tour over the last 5 months and this new video 'Face The Fire' is a collection of footage and photos that I collected over that time. It is an accurate reflection of what our live shows encompass and that specific energy that we have missed so much."

COMEBACK KID Release New Single "Crossed" Featuring GOJIRA's Joe Duplantier!

RELEASE NEW SINGLE "CROSSED" FEATURING GOJIRA'S JOE DUPLANTIER

WEST COAST TOUR WITH NO WARNING KICKS OFF THIS TUESDAY, DECEMBER 6TH IN LAS VEGAS!

"This song is direct and to the point about staying in reality and warns of the elements that could bring us further into darkness.”
Andrew Neufeld

Today, COMEBACK KID has revealed a new single and video, “Crossed,” featuring guest vocals from Gojira’s Joe Duplantier. Alongside the riff-heavy first single “No Easy Way Out” and the tone-setting dynamic title track (“Heavy Steps”), “Crossed” will appear on COMEBACK KID’s anticipated seventh studio album, Heavy Steps which is set for release on January 21, 2022 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Vocalist Andrew Neufeld comments, “Crossed is a no-frills metallic hardcore track. Lyrically it deals with someone in my life that seemed so far gone and I had to watch them dig themselves further and further into a low and unrealistic place. 'Crossed into the void' so to say. We enlisted Joe from GOJIRA to represent somewhat of an overlord menacing presence in the song. An overshadowing power via his blood-curdling scream. This song is direct and to the point about staying in reality and warns of the elements that could bring us further into darkness.”

Comeback Kid fighting against outside pressures and personal demons

Directed by Daniel Prieß and Max Maltais and filmed in Quebec, the video for “Crossed” is a performance-style video that sees members of the band fighting against outside pressures and personal demons until they fall into what is visually depicted as “the void”. A true hybrid collaboration that ignited a lot of inspiration and out-of-the-box imagination, the video involved green screening in drummer Loren Legare from Vancouver when he was unable to attend the shoot in Quebec and utilizing a special FX team and editing team in Germany.

"It was wild how this song and video all came together,” Neufeld continues. “So many people from all over the world contributed to this project. On top of the teams used to create the video, the track was recorded in Winnipeg and was mixed in New York by Will Putney. Then Joe [Duplantier] recorded his parts at his house (I believe) in France! This is one of the most fun collaborative projects that I have had the pleasure of working on.”

In celebration of their forthcoming release, COMEBACK KID has recently partnered with Fanaply, a platform creating eco-friendly Non-Fungible Token (NFT) for the biggest names in sports, music, and entertainment, to bring fans their first-ever eco-friendly NFT. Starting today, fans can enter a competition to earn points for sharing, following, and more. On December 10th, 25 of the top point earners will win the NFT. COMEBACK KID On Tour This November With A WILHELM SCREAM & December With NO WARNING

Today one of the biggest names in modern hardcore COMEBACK KIDannounce their seventh studio album "Heavy Steps" which will be released on January 21, 2022, via Nuclear Blast worldwide (and New Damage Records in Canada). Alongside the album announcement, the influential punk rock heavyweights have unveiled the tone-setting dynamic title track and its humorously entertaining accompanying video. Stream "Heavy Steps" HERE and watch the video below.

Says lead vocalist Andrew Neufeld of the new single “I think of our new single 'Heavy Steps' as a bold statement of a riff right off the bat and lyrically coming from an unhinged perspective about tearing through life. Instinct over reason - without even realizing how easily our worlds could implode from under our feet. A bit of a "just test me" type sentiment is being echoed in this song.”

Picking up where the comedic mini-thriller video for their riff-heavy banger “No Easy Way Out” left off (spoiler; COMEBACK KID are chased in a forest and kidnapped) the video for 'Heavy Steps' which is also directed by Kevin Keegan kicks off with a mysterious masked individual walking towards a stage carrying a couple of guitars while eerie unnerving horror-esque score plays in the background. To everyone’s surprise and for pure comic relief it becomes clear that the band has been kidnapped by an over eager father in order to play his son Skip's 10th birthday party. Watch the video for 'Heavy Steps' below.

Heavy Steps, the follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed full-length Outsider, sees the hardcore veterans returning to their roots both geographically and musically. COMEBACK KID - Drop New Single "No Easy Way Out"+Kick-Off East Coast Trek With STRIKE ANYWHERE On November 1st!

One of the biggest names in modern hardcore, Comeback Kid has released the fast-paced, riff-heavy banger “No Easy Way Out”. The track, which was recorded in Winnipeg, MB at Private Ear Recordingstudio, is the first new original music to be heard from the influential hardcore/punk outfit since their 2017 release Outsider. Listen to “No Easy Way Out” HERE.

"This was an attempt to conjure up an edge of your seat rhythm that stays the course but builds intensity the whole way through until the end,” said lead vocalist Andrew Neufeld. “The feeling of looking over your shoulder and running for dear life. This is a stomper hardcore tune with a pummeling pace. When you're pushed in a corner, there's no easy way out!"

Accompanying the single is an age-restricted music video conceptualized and directed by Kevin Keegan. Amplifying the tracks feeling of needing to escape but also running into the realization that that may be harder than what it seems, the video for “No Easy Way Out” is a captivating comedic mini-thriller that sees the band being chased by a psycho kidnapper in a forest in Western Canada.

COMEBACK KID is heading out on the road this fall! They will make an appearance in Nashville at Studio 615 with TERROR before playing Furnace Fest in Alabama and The Fest in Florida, The following month they kick-off their East coast tour with STRIKE ANYWHERE on November 1st in Atlanta and make stops in Richmond, Baltimore, and Philadelphia before concluding in Boston on November 7th!

About Comeback Kid
Over the last twenty years, COMEBACK KID has been hailed as one of the major counterparts when it has come to shaping and pioneering both the Canadian and international modern punk and hardcore sound and scene alike.

Having formed in Winnipeg, before later releasing their 2002 demo, and the acclaimed, Turn It Around in 2003 via California’s Facedown Records, the five-piece have undoubtedly over the years been able to balance a DIY ethos and dependability, with that of a humanitarian ethos, and genre-defining musicianship which has broken down the boundaries of hardcore and transcended the genre onto a global stage.

Breaking into the mainstream with 2005’s career-defining, Wake The Dead, COMEBACK KID broke boundaries and both literally and musically stormed across new terrains, projecting the once underground genre on a globally touring scale alongside the likes of then Victory Records label mates, EARTHCRISIS, TERROR, and REFUSED.

Standing strong in the face of adversity and change, it would be 2007’s Broadcasting that would elucidate both COMEBACK KID’s and the new sonic soundscape of 21st-century punk music with vocalist Scott Wade stepping down and powerhouse, Andrew Neufeld taking over on vocal duties.

“We’re a hardcore band, but we don’t feel like we belong to any particular sect of that,” states Neufeld alongside band members, Jeremy Hiebert (guitar, FIGURE FOUR), Stu Ross (guitar, MISERYSIGNALS), Chase Brenneman (bass, LIVING WITH LIONS), and Loren Legare (drums, LIVING WITH LIONS). “We don’t want to be limited in any sense and prefer to work on our own terms.”

Now one of the most volatile leaders within the global heavy music community, and carrying the torch of igniting endless genres through playing with both sheer speed and force. Arguably 2017’s Outsider would pioneer a new path in which COMEBACK KID would forge for some of today’s new heavyweights to follow, cementing the band’s status as one of the most revolutionary forefathers to carry the genre into the future.

Now with their seventh record on the horizon, the band is defining what it means to be both an integral, yet impressive unit within both the foundation and edges of punk.
