The Joy Thieves rip it with 'I'll Be Your Hammer' from 'Apocalypse Pending' feat. Chris Connelly - soundtracking the end of the world as we know it

Chicago-based industrial-rock-punk-experimental supergroup The Joy Thievespresents 'I’ll Be Your Hammer' from their full-length album 'Apocalypse Pending', released via Armalyte Industries. As with the album's lead singles 'No Anchor' and ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’, the accompanying video was created by Lumbra Productions.

A rallying cry to inspire people to stand up to fascism as it quickly spreads around the globe, the song’s title is a direct response to ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ by The Velvet Underground, and also alludes to the quote “Art is not a mirror, it’s a hammer” by the trailblazing Scottish documentarian John Grierson.

Many instantly recognize the iconic voice of Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface), who shares, “While ‘I’ll Be Your Mirror’ by The Velvet Underground is an introspective plea from one lover to another, ‘I’ll Be Your Hammer’ is written from the perspective of an individual standing up to a fascist regime. The more you suppress our rights, the stronger I get”.

Highly influenced by the hip hop music production techniques of the 80’s and early 90’s, 'Apocalypse Pending' finds the Joy Thieves Productions team of Dan Milligan and James Scott redefining themselves by utilizing a sample-heavy production to forge elements of industrial, rock, experimental, punk, hip hop, metal, and freeform jazz. But instead of sampling the music of others, they draw inspiration in the talents of the band’s 80+ other members, resulting in an incendiary sound all their own.

While The Joy Thieves combine a wide array of musicians in order to craft their signature sound, 'Apocalypse Pending' stretches this concept to its limits, turning their entire song-creation process upside down. Instead of members contributing songs, as before, they meticulously gathered hundreds of unrelated recorded musical fragments from their fellow Joy Thieves, then painstakingly reconstructed brand new pieces of music from these fragments, ultimately creating a fresh and innovative sound.

'Apocalypse Pending' captures the zeitgeist with such precision while touching on the decay of the individual and exploring the isolation of our modern world. Seething with frustration and rage at one moment, and coolly delivering beat poetry the next, this album uses a densely layered, sonic collage as the perfect vehicle to deliver the band’s violently anti-fascist sentiments.

“’I’ll Be Your Hammer’ takes root in the soil laid down by our punk and industrial ancestors. More than any other song on the record, it deviates from the break beat inspired backbone and into somewhat more accessible, albeit aggressive and discordant territory. We crafted this song to relentlessly hit the listener in the face with punk rock attitude and providing a recklessly speeding vehicle for Chris Connelly’s brilliant, seething lyrics," says James Scott.

The Joy Thieves includes current, former, and touring members of Ministry, Stabbing Westward, The Rollins Band, Killing Joke, Pigface, RevCo, PIG, David Bowie, Blue October, Machines of Loving Grace, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Naked Raygun, Foetus, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Pegboy, Nitzer Ebb, Die Krupps and more.

The band crafts their cohesive signature sound from the contributions of its ever-growing 80+ roster of members, drawn from a diverse range of genres, including industrial, rock, punk, darkwave, hip hop and experimental music. Created by “all of us, and yet, none of us”, this is a sound all their own, their music aggressive, yet precise; confrontational, but refined; and harsh, yet melodic.

'Apocalypse Pending' is out now, available on Digipack CD and digitally everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp.

The Joy Thieves unleash 'Apocalypse Pending' album with video for 'No Anchor' & focus track 'Ambush Vinez'

Chicago-based alternative collective The Joy Thieves release their full-length album 'Apocalypse Pending' on June 5th via Armalyte Industries. While the industrial-rock-punk-experimental supergroup known has always combined a wide array of musicians together in order to craft their signature sound, they stretch this concept to its very limits with this record.

But instead of sampling the music of others, they found inspiration in the talents of the band’s 80+ other members, resulting in an incendiary sound all their own.

Anxious to explore new musical territory, they challenged themselves by turning the entire song-creation process upside down. Instead of relying on members to contribute already-written songs, as they’d done in the past, they meticulously gathered hundreds of unrelated recorded musical fragments from their fellow Joy Thieves, then painstakingly reconstructed brand new pieces of music from these fragments, ultimately creating a fresh and innovative sound.

Longtime fans of the band will instantly recognize the iconic voice of Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface). Seething with frustration and rage at one moment, and coolly delivering beat poetry the next, 'Apocalypse Pending' finds the multi-talented Connelly in his element; using the album’s densely layered, sonic collage as the perfect vehicle to deliver the band’s violently anti-fascist sentiments.

The Joy Thieves have also shared videos for 'No Anchor' and ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’, created by Lumbra Productions. Eyeing the edge of collapse, capturing the zeitgeist with such precision, they touch on the decay of the individual, exploring the isolation of our modern world.

“These days, the process of simply writing and recording an album no longer seems to be enough for me. In order to feel fully engaged, I need new and exciting musical challenges - preferably ones that make me start wondering if I just might be in waaaay over my head. Once I get that feeling, there’s absolutely no question I’m on the right track," says Dan Milligan.

"
In the case of 'Apocalypse Pending', that challenge began as a question - What kind of music would RZA or The Bomb Squad make if they had been raised on a steady diet of Gang of 4, The Jesus Lizard, and Ministry?"

Chris Connelly adds, “At their core, the lyrics for 'Apocalypse Pending' are violently anti-fascist. It’s funny how worked up and angry I get when I talk about these songs. But I’m finding I simply can’t hold back anymore; and it feels so good to lyrically address every aspect of this current horror show. I’m so glad we have a creative outlet to express these thoughts. At least until we all get Pussy Riot-ed into prison."

Since signing with London alternative-industrial label Armalyte Industries in 2018, The Joy Thieves have delivered 11 critically-acclaimed releases. 'Apocalypse Pending' is the latest -- produced, engineered and mixed by Joy Thieves Productions at Populist Recording + Mastering.

The Joy Thieves includes current, former, and touring members of Ministry, Stabbing Westward, The Rollins Band, Killing Joke, Pigface, RevCo, PIG, David Bowie, Blue October, Machines of Loving Grace, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Naked Raygun, Foetus, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Pegboy, Nitzer Ebb, Die Krupps and more.

Created by “all of us, and yet, none of us”, this is a sound all their own, their music aggressive, yet precise; confrontational, but refined; and harsh, yet melodic.

On June 5th, 'Apocalypse Pending' will be available on Digipack CD and across music platforms including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp.

The Joy Thieves share 'No Anchor' feat. Chris Connelly, teasing 'Apocalypse Pending' album

After Chicago alt-rock outfit The Joy Thieves' boisterous April with the release of ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ and bombastic video from Lumbra Productions, they present the second taste of their full-length album 'Apocalypse Pending', out June 5th via Armalyte Industries. 'No Anchor' doesn’t just make noise, but detonates with intent—leaving scorch marks where complacency used to stand.

‘No Anchor’ examines how increased isolation in our modern world has pushed people towards amorality and an increased sense of hopeless nihilism. Featuring Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface) on vocals, this song articulates a world slipping free of moral gravity. Longtime mavericks at the edge of collapse, the band captures the zeitgeist with such precision.

While the first track vents our collective fury at a world where corporate giants and billionaires operate with total impunity, this new single shifts the lens toward the resulting decay of the individual, exploring a chilling world where the absence of a moral "anchor" leads to total societal and personal dissolution.

Revolving around musicians-producers Dan Milligan and James Scott (a.k.a. Joy Thieves Productions), The Joy Thieves is a musical supergroup that includes members of Ministry, Stabbing Westward, The Rollins Band, Killing Joke, Pigface, RevCo, PIG, David Bowie, Blue October, Machines of Loving Grace, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Naked Raygun, Foetus, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Pegboy, Nitzer Ebb, Die Krupps and more.

“These days, it seems like people are capable of being pushed or tempted to exist in a state where they are alone. No moral compass. No ethics. No empathy. No forgiveness. No anchor. In a society where guilt seems to be gone, people can act however they want,” says Chris Connelly.

Dan Milligan adds, “When I was writing the music for ‘No Anchor,’ I purposefully used ever-changing, off-kilter guitar riffs that seem to stray farther and farther from the song’s key as it progresses. Because the music never truly repeats, or settles down, it creates the sickening sense that everything is unresolved, and it’s only going to get worse."

Since signing with London alternative-industrial label Armalyte Industries in 2018, The Joy Thieves have delivered 11 critically-acclaimed releases. 'Apocalypse Pending' is the newest addition -- produced, engineered and mixed by Joy Thieves Productions at Populist Recording + Mastering.

Joy Thieves Productions crafts their surprisingly cohesive signature sound from the contributions of its ever-growing 80+ roster of members, drawn from a diverse range of genres, including industrial, rock, punk, darkwave, hip hop and experimental music, they produce a sound created by “all of us, and yet, none of us”. Creating a sound all their own, their music is aggressive, yet precise; confrontational, but refined; and harsh, yet melodic.

This new song cycle began with producer-drummer Dan Milligan re-recording iconic hip hop breakbeats with modern drum sounds. ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ began exactly that way -- with a modern re-imagining of the one of the most famous breakbeats of all time (‘Ashley’s Roachclip’ by The Soul Searchers). This formed the basis upon which the entire track was built.

For a band with members all over the world, The Joy Thieves' music feels very Chicago. Anchored by their love of industrial rock, their music immediately outgrows the restrictions of the genre by stretching into the new realms, creating a sound that both honors the past while pushing its evolution into the future.

As of May 5th, 'No Anchor' is available from digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp, where ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ can also be found. The 'Apocalypse Pending' album, now available for pre-order, will be released on June 5th

The Joy Thieves unveil video for 'The Wrong End of Your Rifle' feat. Chris Connelly

Chicago alt-rock outfit The Joy Thieves are back with ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’, along with a new video by Joel Lopez at Lumbra Productions. This is the first single from their full-length album 'Apocalypse Pending', out June 5th via Armalyte Industries. Featuring Chris Connelly (Fini Tribe, Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface)on vocals, this ripping track addresses the intense frustration we’re all feeling over corporations and billionaires seemingly able to do whatever they want, whenever they want, without consequence.

Revolving around musicians-producers Dan Milligan and James Scott (a.k.a. Joy Thieves Productions), The Joy Thieves is a musical supergroup that includes current, former, and touring members of Ministry, Stabbing Westward, The Rollins Band, Killing Joke, Pigface, RevCo, PIG, David Bowie, Blue October, Machines of Loving Grace, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, KMFDM, Naked Raygun, Foetus, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Pegboy, Nitzer Ebb, Die Krupps and more.

A jagged, cynical critique of the intersection between state violence, corporate greed, and digital voyeurism, ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’  portrays a world where human life is devalued and even the most violent acts are packaged as content or conveniently filtered, filmed yet ultimately ignored by the screen-numbed masses.

“When the billionaires are accountable for nothing, and force their will by suppression in the streets, we have to become inventive. As we are forced to watch corporations create for-profit prisons, we must remember that we can't argue or reason with bullets,” says Chris Connelly.

Since signing with legendary London alternative-industrial label Armalyte Industries in 2018, The Joy Thieves have delivered 11 critically-acclaimed releases. Produced, engineered and mixed by Joy Thieves Productions at Populist Recording + Mastering, 'Apocalypse Pending' is the newest record to blaze a mind-bending trail.

Joy Thieves Productions crafts their surprisingly cohesive signature sound from the contributions of its ever-growing 80+ roster of members, drawn from a diverse range of genres, including industrial, rock, punk, darkwave, hip hop and experimental music, they produce a sound that The Joy Thieves describe as being created by “all of us. And yet, none of us”. This approach has allowed the band to create a sound all its own. Aggressive, yet precise. Confrontational, but refined. Harsh, yet layered with melody.

Many of the songs on the new album began with producer-drummer Dan Milligan re-recording iconic hip hop breakbeats with modern drum sounds. ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ began exactly that way -- with a modern re-imagining of the one of the most famous breakbeats of all time (‘Ashley’s Roachclip’ by The Soul Searchers). This formed the basis upon which the entire track was built.

“At the very beginning of the creation process for Apocalypse Pending, the goal was to blend the existing Joy Thieves’ sound with elements of the golden age of hip hop, and I think ‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ does that as well as any song on the album,” says Dan Milligan.

For a band with members spread all over the world, The Joy Thieves' music feels like it could have only been made in Chicago. Anchored by their love of industrial rock, their music immediately outgrows the restrictions of the genre by stretching into the new realms, creating a sound that both honors the past while pushing its evolution into the future.

‘The Wrong End of Your Rifle’ is out now, available from digital music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The 'Apocalypse Pending' album will be released on June 5th.

DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT Roll Out New Single "Hearse"

Portland-based industrial outfit DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT return with their new single "Hearse", a cheeky, high-energy bone shaker inspired by classic gallows humor and driven by relentless industrial force, available via Armalyte Industries.

The track takes its cue from the haunting childhood rhyme, “Don’t ever laugh as the hearse goes by for you may be the next to die.” Embracing the dark humor of the line, DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT transforms it into a frantic, stomp-along anthem that barrels forward with manic intensity and morbid fun.

“Hearse” features guest drums by Martin Atkins, a founding figure of the Chicago post-punk and industrial movement. Best known for his work with PUBLIC IMAGE LTD., MINISTRY, and KILLING JOKE, Atkins helped define the sound and attitude of modern industrial music. He is also the founder of Invisible Records, a pivotal imprint responsible for releasing and championing numerous underground industrial and experimental artists. His signature frenetic style underscores the song’s urgency and chaos, pushing the track into overdrive.

Adding another layer of ferocity is Glen Clarke, currently of VEER UNION and UNGOTHLY PLACES, and formerly of 2 SHADOWS, whose screams and growls inject raw aggression into the mix. The song also features a chilling spoken sample from John Kassir (aka the Cryptkeeper), alongside Z. Wager, delivering the titular line with unmistakable menace.

Anchored by relentless guitars and bass, "Hearse" is a high-energy march through the graveyard and a reminder of life’s brutal simplicity. In the end, we’re all just meat on the slab. Live it up or die trying.

About DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT:
Formed in 2007, the Portland OR, USA, act began as a solo project by Zach Wager before evolving into a full band in 2011. Drawing inspiration from the likes of SLIPKNOT, PIG, NINE INCH NAILS, and ROB ZOMBIE, DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT allow themselves to be experimental with their creative direction. The band use these influences along with a wide array of instruments and styles to create a distinctive sound, "I think the unique elements of our sound really stem from not trying to write any conventionally genre specific song. So whether it’s using theremins, sampling high tension wires, or anything we feel can add some personality to the song - nothing is off limits."

Over the course of their career to date, DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT's notable appearances include Knotfest (2015), Wasteland Weekend (2018-2022, 2024), as support for COMBICHRIST on the Only Death is Immortal North American Tour (2024), along with headlining Hellfire Tour (2018, West Coast/Southwest Run) and Bring Out The Dead North American Tour (2019). DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT have also created/performed multiple soundscapes for Belgian surrealist photographers, Mothmeister, at their art exhibits.

DEAD ANIMAL ASSEMBLY PLANT is:
Zach ‘Dead’ Wager (Vocals)
Rebecca ‘Buzz’ Wager (Guitars)
Nick ‘Nix’ Snyder (Bass)
Jason ‘Skorn’ Moore (Drums)
