Arch Enemy Heroine Joins Savage Lands on New Single

Feast your eyes on the blockbuster video for their star-studded new single and even those outside of the metal scene will know that Savage Lands are fierce defenders of our natural habitat. But this supergroup aren't acting when it comes to preserving the world's ecosystems.

After witnessing how land developers are tearing down Costa Rica's rain forest, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and his old guitarist Sylvain Demercastel decided they weren't going to sit around and rust in peace. In 2022, they started Savage Lands, the music industry's first artist-run environmental non-profit.

100% of the royalties from the organization's first feature-length album support their ongoing preservation projects in Costa Rica and other countries. Army of the Trees features members of Sepultura, Heilung, Lord of the Lost and other metallic superstars. On the album's new single "Ruling Queen", Savage Lands call on metal's blue-haired heroine along with one of its strongest axemen to help defend their turf.

"Art and activism converge in a space of meaning, and that is where I choose to stand", says Arch Enemy front woman Alissa White-Gluz. "Metalheads have always been powerful and passionate people in my eyes. I hold deep gratitude for Savage Lands and their relentless work in safeguarding the fragile beauty of Costa Rica's ecosystem".

"It has been my pleasure and honor to be part of this unbelievable project", Obituary guitarist Kenneth Andrews says. "Let's do our part!"

Army of the Trees comes out February 15, 2025 on Season of Mist.

Scenes from "Ruling Queen" were shot on location in the 100,000 square feet of high-risk Costa Rican rainforest that Savage Lands has preserved using royalties from their music. But while the video opens on a peaceful mountain vista, the rumble of drum fills from Loco Muerte's Florian Pons warn that trouble is afoot. Before the guitars can even sink their teeth into the song's biting riff, a band of armed soldiers come storming through the forest hellbent on turning a profit.

It's a sight and sound that Savage Lands' co-founders know all too well. "After hearing chainsaws tear through Costa Rica on a daily basis, we knew it was time to act", says Sylvain, "because the buzzing is only getting louder".

Savage Lands is backed by environmental activists and angry metalheads alike. The world-famous Nordic collective Heilung donated $1 for every ticket sold during their most-recent U.S. tour to support their Season of Mist label mates. Hellfest followed by donating 1 million Euro to the organization over the next five years. During their performance on the main stage at last year's festival, Sylvain and the core band were joined by members of Napalm Death, Biohazard, Body Count, Textures, The Gathering, Nasum and Cultura tres. Savage Lands is also partnering with the Jane Goodall Institute on biodiversity projects in France and Africa.

Now, with their new single, Savage Lands are adding the queen of the jungle to their ranks. As the softly swirling melody of "Ruling Queen" appears like a break in the clouds, who else should appear but the leading lady of the Swedish melodeath dynasty Arch Enemy. "Fall of the universe", Alissa White-Gluz sings as she stalks the video's unsuspecting invaders from the treetops. Even her soaring cleans are heavy with disdain for her soon-to-be prey. "We're nothing special, we're no heroes".

Joining forces with Alissa came naturally to Savage Lands. While she and Dirk have crossed paths with their respective bands on the international touring circuit, they're also both vegans and animal rights advocates. "That's important to us", Dirk says about the partnership behind "Ruling Queen". "Obviously, it's great when Savage Lands receives support from a huge star like Alissa, but that she also buys into the philosophy behind our organization makes it even better".

Sharing similar beliefs about the environment led Savage Lands and the Arch Enemy front woman to develop an organic songwriting chemistry. Though slotted toward the top of the album's tracklist, "Ruling Queen" was one of the last songs that Sylvain and core vocalist Poun wrote for Army of the Trees. It came together quickly, too. Shredding leads, crashing cymbals and the booming bass of Poun's Black Bomb A bandmate Etienne Treton surge together into a raging chorus that's as powerful and free-flowing as a waterfall.

"The good songs tend to come together easily", Sylvain says, though Savage Lands needed some guidance from the song's namesake when carving out the verses. "Alissa is a true professional", he continues, "She has a very analytical way of working but also understands the power of symbols". She helped strike the right balance between Poun's bat-like scream and her cavernous growl. "The whole world is sick with fear", they shout in unison, a bone-crushing refrain that sticks in your head long after you're finished headbanging.

"To walk among the flora and fauna of Costa Rica has been a long-held aspiration for me", Alissa says. "To do so while creating music and championing their protection was not just a privilege but a reminder - true purpose lies in something greater than oneself".

Making the video for "Ruling Queen" wasn't always such a breeze. Gornoss directed Savage Lands and company on a 10-day trek through Costa Rica. Setting up inside the heart of the jungle did give them a bird's-eye view of a hard-working colony of leafcutter ants, but filming at night besides a giant, roaring campfire tested everyone's mettle. "It was so hot", Sylvain remembers. "I couldn't touch the side of my guitar".

While certainly no stranger to the swamps, Obituary's Kenneth Andrews had some mild reservations about joining the video team's excursion. After hearing his bandmate John Tardy unleash his inner primate on Savage Land's first-ever single, the seasoned vet was dying to flex his chops on "Ruling Queen". "Once I got the call, everything came together naturally and very quickly", Andrews says. "Before I knew it, I was flying to Costa Rica to shoot the video". The extreme metal guitarist was sweating over filming amidst the beasts of the jungle but seeing the calming beauty of Costa Rica's ecosystem up close and personal restored his timeless cool.

"The experience was very surreal", Andrews continues. "I will never forget the hospitality and professionalism of the whole crew, not to mention being part of a very important movement that I honestly didn't understand the scope of until meeting everyone involved. My eyes have been opened...wide!" Flanked by Alissa's knockout belt, his courageous solo brings the video's villains to their knees.

"That makes me really happy", Sylvain says. "It shows that it's possible to change the way people think about nature. Our goals are attainable. By converting the land that we purchase into nature sanctuaries, Savage Lands will help set a precedent for environmental activism. But we must work together and quickly. Ecosystems are still under attack. If we don’t, then there won’t be any wildlife left to save”.

Raise your horns and join the Army of the Trees in support of the metal non-profit.

Just listening to "Ruling Queen" helps support Savage Lands. 100% of the song’s royalties fund the musician-run non-profit’s preservation efforts.

The CD Digisleeve for Army of the Trees is made from eco paper, while the LP is pressed on BioVinyl.

Nita Strauss Enlists Vocals From Alissa White-Gluz On Brand New Single; "The Wolf You Feed"

Superstar guitarist and unstoppable force of nature, "Hurricane" NITA STRAUSS, has dropped brand new single and accompanying music video, "The Wolf You Feed", today. The epic, headbanger of a track features huge, chunky, metallic riffs and the insane vocal talent of ALISSA WHITE-GLUZ of Arch Enemy. Stream the new track on your platform of choice HERE and watch the music video below.

Speaking on her new release, NITA shares

If you look back at old interviews from the last ten years, any time I was asked about collaborating with a vocalist in the future, Alissa White-Gluz was always the first name out of my mouth. She is truly one of my favorite vocalists and performers in the industry and creating this track together was everything I hoped it would be!

I’m very proud to release this track, especially now with everything else that’s going on. This time in history, whether in politics, music, social media, or our personal lives, has been an eye opening look into the two wolves of a lot of people out there, and maybe this song will be a reminder that we all have the ability to choose how we respond to things.

The lyrics of this song were inspired by “The Story of the Two Wolves”, a legend widely attributed to Native American storytellers.

An old grandfather was teaching his grandson about life:

“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.

“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil–he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.”

He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you–and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf will win?”

The grandfather simply replied, “The one you feed".

ALISSA adds

Nita and I finally got to collaborate - something we have both wanted to do for years! The Wolf You Feed is a kickass, catchy metal track with a really cool vibe. I kept the “two wolves” analogy as a foundation throughout the song while playing up the dichotomy of the two sides of the tug-of-war we all have inside us. I recorded my parts in my home studio and it was an absolute pleasure to build this song with Nita. I am honoured to be a part of it! Can’t wait to do this again!

"Wolf You Feed", is the second song Nita has released featuring a star guest vocalist, the first being the enormously successful "Dead Inside" which featured guest vocals from Disturbed's David Draiman and saw NITA become the first ever solo female to have a #1 hit at Active Rock Radio. She also returned to her instrumental roots earlier this year with the release of single "Summer Storm", a fast-paced, emotive shred-fest. Combined, the two singles have had 3.5 million YouTube views and over 10 million streams on Spotify alone.

NITA has been hard at work on her second solo studio album. More news to come on that soon.

ABOUT NITA STRAUSS

Through obsession, dedication and sheer hard work, NITA has not only been firmly established as one of the best guitarists in the world, she is also a role model, a trail blazer, a fitness fanatic, a phenomenal performer and a total badass. Her skill, exuberant stage presence and love for all things guitar have seen NITA become a truly unstoppable, limitless force, blazing a previously untrodden trail.

As well as writing, producing and playing all the guitar and bass parts on her solo output, NITA is known for wowing fans all over the world as the touring guitarist for Alice Cooper and most recently for mega-star, Demi Lovato. Gracing the covers of Guitar World and Guitar Player, performing for millions upon millions of WWE fans worldwide at record-setting pay-per-views and becoming the first female to have a signature Ibanez guitar (which now hangs in the entrance to the legendary Guitar Centre on Sunset Blvd).

When the pandemic hit, being the force of nature that she is, NITA took the adversity of no touring and being at home and turned it in to a positive. NITA launched her online guitar learning course, Rock Guitar Fundamentals which takes the learner through everything from picking up the guitar for the first time all the way through to learning songs and playing solos. Taking her passion for health and fitness to the next level, NITA also launched her Body Shred Fitness Challenge, a 3 month fitness challenge that paired a love of music with passion for getting healthier in your body and mind! And, as if that wasn't enough, NITA launched her Patreon which gives fans access to weekly livestreams, lessons, signed photos and behind the scenes looks at the album recording process.

On top of these digital initiatives, NITA is also the official in-house guitarist of current Super Bowl Champions, the L.A. Rams. She has performed at numerous WWE events, including Wrestlemania 34,  Evolution and WWE's NXT Takeover: Stand and Deliver event, has released three signature Ibanez guitars, JIVA, JIVA Jr and JIVA X, was featured on the cover of Guitar World's: Guitarists Of The Decade issue and played out ex-band mate and world champion boxer Mikaela Mayer to the ring when she unified the WBO and IBF belts.

NITA released her debut solo album 'Controlled Chaos' in 2018 to mass acclaim from fans and media alike with Metal Injection calling it "a great debut that—as its creator intended—leaves no doubt." and Guitar World stating "'Controlled Chaos' is a panoramic view of Nita Strauss' many strengths". To date the album has clocked up 8.95 million streams worldwide, with music videos for singles "Our Most Desperate Hour", "Pandemonium", "Alegria" and "Mariana Trench" clocking up over 3.5 million Youtube views.

As well as performing with Alice Cooper and Demi Lovato, NITA has also played with R&B star Jermaine Jackson, early MTV darlings Femme Fatale, video game supergroup Critical Hit and popular tribute band The Iron Maidens.

POWERWOLF Live 2021

On their upcoming tour, fans can not only expect brand new heavy metal anthems to be played and chanted along by thousands, but also the biggest and most epic production POWERWOLF has brought to the stage thus far, once again cementing their status as one of the most intense live bands.

ABOUT POWERWOLF:

The story of POWERWOLF, beginning in 2004, reads like a true fairytale, but is the result of the most hard-working and entertaining live band on the heavy metal planet. POWERWOLF has not only received plenty of Gold and Platinum awards to date, but numerous releases have entered the official German album charts at the top position #1. With Blessed & Possessed (2015), POWERWOLF achieved Gold status (in the Czech Republic) for the first time, while its predecessor, Preachers Of The Night (2013), hit the official German album charts at #1, and the incredible DVD, The Metal Mass (2016), came in at #1 of the German DVD-Charts. POWERWOLF's holy mass in the name of heavy metal is unstoppable – their latest magnum opus, The Sacrament of Sin (2018), again entered the album charts at #1. The accompanying, almost completely sold out Wolfsnächte headline tour, in which POWERWOLF headlined large venues with their phenomenal stage performances, became a single major triumph – as well as the numerous summer festival shows in which crowds were thrilled and completely captivated by the ‘wolf and their unique, (un)holy metal mass. With the new studio album, Call Of The Wild, and the Wolfsnächte 2021 tour charging through the largest halls in Europe, 2021 will again be a year completely under the sign of the wolf pack!
