MENTAL CRUELTY descends into eternal winter with their crushing new single “Frost,” taken from their upcoming album, ‘Echoes of a Forlorn Land,’ out on October 23rd via Century Media.
Steeped in bleak imagery and Nordic mythology, “Frost” paints a desolate world swallowed by an endless winter, where darkness, isolation, and the relentless cold slowly erase every trace of hope. Drawing on the imagery of Fimbulvetr – the great winter that precedes Ragnarök in Norse mythology – the track pairs MENTAL CRUELTY’s ferocious heaviness with the dark, atmospheric, and cinematic elements that shape the world of ‘Echoes of a Forlorn Land.’
Produced, mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren (Dimmu Borgir, Behemoth, Kreator, Amon Amarth, Opeth), ‘Echoes of a Forlorn Land’ pushes MENTAL CRUELTY beyond the foundations laid on ‘Zwielicht,’ further expanding their uncompromising blend of extreme metal and dark atmosphere.
This November and December, MENTAL CRUELTY will bring the new album across Europe on their headline tour with Ov Sulfur, Extermination Dismemberment, and more.

“‘Frost’ is MENTAL CRUELTY at our most chilling, capturing the desolation of Norse mythology’s Fimbulwinter both lyrically and musically. Its plodding, atmospheric, and mournful tones evoke a slow trudge through ice and snow, stretching on for three long years. Think Rotting Christ meets Wardruna: a song that’s as blackened as it is coated in white snow."
