OUT NOW: The Toxhards’ Abbey Road-Recorded “Paint It, Baby Blue”

Theatrical alt-rock oddities, The Toxhards, today return with their latest single, "Paint It, Baby Blue", out now via Hopeless Records. Written in pieces before coming together at Abbey Road Studios, the track explores the ebb and flow of passionate feelings, channeling both their bliss and their sting. For a band of devoted Beatles fans, its creation also marked a deeply personal milestone: the chance to make music in a place so closely connected to their musical heroes. Listen to the brand new track, "Paint It, Baby Blue" BELOW.

Tender without tying its feelings into a neat resolution, "Paint It, Baby Blue" sits with the uncertainty of wanting someone close while fearing they're already slipping away. Finding the emotional push and pull between affection and apprehension, where the joy of connection becomes difficult to separate from the fear of losing it. Leaving room for the beautiful and uncomfortable parts of loving someone to coexist, The Toxhards wear their hearts on their sleeves without surrendering their eccentric edges.

Reflecting on how a nearly abandoned song became a personal milestone, Alan Powers shares:

"When I started mindlessly strumming and humming a new tune on my couch at the start of 2026, I had no idea that the resulting song would finish its journey at Abbey Road Studios. For the longest time, we couldn’t quite finish what we called “The Riff Song” - frustrated, I forced the band to shelve it in order to focus on other new songs for our forthcoming LP. I wanted to convey ideas about the coming-and-going of passionate feelings; both blissful and painful. Next thing I know, the band’s in the UK and I’m on a high-speed train to London. The next day we’d be recording at Abbey Road Studios (another story in and of itself). It felt like the train was racing straight toward the vocal booth, and I didn’t have any finished lyrics. So, I threw out everything I had and just started from scratch. In about 10 minutes on the train to London, the lyrics were done.

And there I am, in the vocal booth. In Abbey Road. ABBEY ROAD. Everyone who knows me knows it's been my dream to do anything in this building. In the studio also sat the most beautiful-sounding upright piano we’d ever heard. Our touring guitarist Alex was in the studio with us, playing the song’s chords on the piano between takes, and my ears perked up. In a quick flash of inspiration, I suggested we completely rewrite the second verse to feature this piano, and add some of the acoustic Gibson guitars that were lying around. And right then and there, we did. In the spirit of Abbey Road, we threw in some Beatles-esque harmonies and some ‘I Want To Hold Your Hand’ handclaps. The bridge was also completely rewritten around the beautiful sound of this piano we’d fallen in love with.

At this point, it was still called ‘The Riff Song.’ For days, everyone on the Toxhards team were texting song title ideas in the group chat. ‘I Don’t Wanna Believe It,’ ‘Your Face,’ ‘Scarlet,’ ‘Rainy Afternoon,’ when finally Amanda, my wife and muse, suggested ‘Paint It Baby Blue.’ Perfect, I thought - add a comma after ‘Paint It,’ as a nod to the Stones, ‘Baby Blue’ feels like an apt nod to Bob Dylan’s ‘It’s All Over Now, Baby Blue.’ This new song oozes the love and joy of our favorite songs from the 1960’s, so the title fit perfectly: ‘Paint It, Baby Blue.’”

Armed with songs about hog gods, suburbia-induced panic, and love stories that fray at the edges, The Toxhards recently wrapped their Get Destructive Tour, which was a twenty nine stop live wire experiment in how far they could push a rock show before it morphed into a full-blown cathartic meltdown with a mosh pit. Each night featured a slightly different strain of chaos, where the band swapped instruments, derailing songs into choreographed (and unchoreographed) bits, and crowd interaction that blurred the line between show and shared hallucination.

What started as a casual hobby project among college friends has since grown into one of alternative rock's most distinctive cult followings. The Toxhards built their audience in the modern way, a breakout TikTok moment behind their single, "How Lucky Am I?" that snowballed into a string of increasingly unhinged fan favorites. First, "Doombop", a genre-blending blast of existential noise that cemented the band's reputation for delightful chaos. Then, "Ængus, The Prize-Winning Hog", a song about a hog deity that somehow racked up over 7 million views across social media and even caught the attention of Hopeless Records, who signed the band in 2023.

Last year saw the release of their debut full-length concept album, "Your Neighborhood", a record that follows a young man's spiral through heartbreak, grief, isolation, and a brush with death that forces an uncomfortable reckoning. Earning widespread praise from Knotfest and The Needle Drop for the band's songwriting ambition, melodic instincts, and insane live presence, "Your Neighborhood" made it clear that The Toxhards are a band with something for everyone and everything for someone.

Stay tuned for more news from The Toxhards soon.
