Lions At The Gate Announce Debut Album 'The Excuses We Cannot Make' Out On August 25 + Release New Music Video "Drain"

It's a great day to be a Lions At The Gate fan! The Los Angeles-based hard-rock quintet has today announced their debut album 'The Excuses We Cannot Make', set for release on Friday, August 25, and was produced and mixed by Kile Odell (Nita Strauss, Fozzy, Motionless In White). In celebration of the news, the band has released a new music video for their track "Drain" off the forthcoming full-length (directed by Vicente Cordero/Industrialism Films (Black Veil Brides, Cradle of Filth). When asked about the themes of this album as well as the subsequent writing and recording process, vocalist Cristian Machado shared:

"The topics on this record were deeply personal to me and spoke a lot about the personal struggle that I was going through at the time with the separation from my [now previous] band, a divorce, a custody dispute, and being slandered publicly with lies, but overall wanting a message of persistence and forgiveness... The instrumental [of the album] was already great. We tracked 1 to 2 songs a day, and [never once did I think] to go back to re-record anything. Everyone in the band has a chance to express themselves creatively, writing individually, but then we all come together to record the album as a unit. In this kind of environment, everyone in the band gets some solitary creativity and then has a chance to speak their mind about all the ideas occurring throughout the entire recording process."

Speaking about the inspiration behind "Drain", Machado commented:

"'Drain' is a song about regret and time. There was a time in my life when I wished I could turn back the clock and take all the lessons I’ve learned with me. Many times I wondered if I’d made the right decisions in my own life. Years ago, I lost a family member whom I loved dearly with all my heart. We held her until the very last breath that she took. That was such a life-changing experience, it truly made me see things a lot differently. Sadly, so many years I wasted leading up to that moment, thinking that time would never run out. The regret I felt was so intense, it opened my eyes wider than ever before and led my heart to change. I carry the memory daily, still. Thank God I am now, finally, realizing that perhaps I am not defined by the mistakes I’ve made, I am defined by the lessons I’ve learned in-house. I can apply them to my life now. In the end, it was worth it all."

Lions At The Gate Drop New Track "Bed Of Nails"; Announce Debut Live Show

Los Angeles hard rock quintet LIONS AT THE GATE have dropped their latest single and music video, "Bed Of Nails". The track strikes a fine balance between otherworldly vocals, relentless rhythm, and massively heavy riffs. Speaking on today's release, Lions At The Gate frontman Cristian Machado commented:

"'Bed Of Nails' is a song that was brought in by Diego, a string of riffs that told a story. Kile pushed the dynamics of the song into extremes by surrounding Diego’s riffs with ghostly verses. Ahrue and Steve rounded off some of the parts and the bridge of the song. When I heard the demo, I fell in love with the heavy riff and the double bass, especially followed by those intimate and creepy verses. That caught my attention instantly. When we got the final mixes back from Kile, I realized how strong the song was.

The message of the song is not hidden in the lyric, it is blatantly about deep inner struggle to accept the things you can not change. I think, especially to embrace those things which blossom growth, even when they involve intense struggle. It’s a theme stitched well into the album. Laying out a maze, attempting to discover an exit path, trying to cut through the uncertainty of life and the chaos of the world. Really though, aren’t we all?"

ABOUT LIONS AT THE GATE

A familiar signature sound, but with a fresh and rejuvenated take, former Ill Niño members Cristian Machado (vocals), guitarists Diego Verduzco and Ahrue Luster (ex-Machine Head) along with bassist Stephen Brewer (ex-Westfield Massacre) and drummer Fern Lemus (ex-Silence The Messenger) are LIONS AT THE GATE.

Moving on from their previous projects, these musical forces made the most of their creative freedom and newfound inspiration. Machado’s powerful vocals are better than ever as he soars with a steady balance and grace with his aggressive scowl as well as embracing his softer side. What is not lost in this band's musical palette are the dynamics of their trademark heaviness, supported by the foundation of big choruses to balance the crushing rhythm within the songs.

Lions At The Gate Release Powerful New Single "Scapegoat"

LIONS AT THE GATE

Release Powerful New Single

“SCAPEGOAT”

Stream The Track Here

Los Angeles hard rock 5-piece, LIONS AT THE GATE have dropped their second single today. Titled "Scapegoat", the track is driven by massively heavy riffs, a thunderous rhythm section, intricate guitar work and the sublime juxtaposition of Cristian Machado's furious screams and soaring clean vocals. The track arrives accompanied by an official music video shot by Vicente Cordero. You can stream "Scapegoat" here

Speaking on the new track, frontman Cristian Machado shares

"Scapegoat was a song brought in by Ahrue. Everyone liked the song immediately, including our producer Kyle Odell. The instrumental had a chilling and beautiful metallic melody. I was quickly moved by the music and began to wonder about my own life. From there we began to sculpt a message. Dysfunctional people don’t want to apologize or make amends, they want to resolve what’s broken in them by damaging others. It’s their great misconception that the scapegoat will be weak and remain powerless when it takes great strength to carry a burden you bare no guilt in.

"Kyle and I realized early on that I was going through a very challenging time in my life with no outlet other than the music, and that perhaps this was what I needed to begin healing. A lot of painful memories were dug up and dealt with whilst recording. I am grateful the guys had the patience to help me work through it, and that music is still in my life. Hopefully these songs can speak to other like minded people and offer a sense of healing.

"The video for scapegoat is a performance art video. The band individually portrayed personal emotion as part of the art. Vicente Cordero’s approach allowed us to feel comfortable in an environment where the performance and the emotion is the focus."

Los Angeles, California based band LIONS AT THE GATE, featuring ex-members of Machine Head, Ill Niño, Westfield Massacre, and Silence The Messenger, proves that new horizons can always be climbed.

The band formed in late 2019, with a new lease on creativity and determination. LIONS AT THE GATE is led by acclaimed vocalist Cristian Machado who is joined by guitarists and fellow ex-Il Niño members Diego Verduzco and Ahrue Luster, bassist Stephen Brewer, and drummer Fernando Lemus.

Moving on from prior projects, the band’s musical foundation quickly began to form its own identity while expanding upon familiar territory. Having quickly attracted the ear of producer Kile Odell (Fozzy, Motionless In White, Cane Hill, Shaman’s Harvest, Through Fire) the band began recording new material in the summer of 2020. They released their debut single, "Not Even Human" back in June to huge excitement from fans old and new. To date the track has clocked up 125,000 streams and nearly 100,000 Youtube views.
