Marko Hietala - Releases New Lyric Video For Track 'Dead God's Son'

On January 12th 2021, Marko Hietala announced his withdrawal from the public eye and departure from NIGHTWISH, where he had been the bass player and second vocalist for 20 years.

A lot of people wondered if we would ever see him return to the music world.
But Hietala has been busy, especially in his home-country Finland. He played some festival shows with his band in 2022 and performed with the Finnish all-star group NORTHERN KINGS. Before Christmas, he took part in the traditional “Raskasta Joulua” (“heavy Christmas”) tour and had a seriously good time performing on stage again.
Today, Hietala is pleased to release a new live footage/lyric video for his track 'Dead God's Son', taken from his 2020 studio album Pyre of the Black Heart, which was filmed throughout the recent festival season in Finland.

Marko Hietala stated about the song: “In ´Dead God’s Son´ we are in the infamous existential crisis. Everything hurts and everything is precious. Every direction is just as good and nothing will replace whatever has been lost. Like many others, I’ve been there. And you always go there alone.”

Benj's first child was actually born two days before the shoot so he had to miss out on this one!"

Today, Beartooth and Trivium announced their 2023 co-headline tour.

The 29-city tour kicks off Monday, May 1 in Stroudsburg, PA at Sherman Theater with stops in Nashville, TN, Las Vegas, NV, Grand Rapid, MI, and more before wrapping up on Thursday, June 15 in Seattle, WA at Paramount Theater. Malevolence and Archetypes Collide will join the bands on all dates across the upcoming tour. Full routing can be found below, along with upcoming Beartooth festival dates.

Beartooth, the band Forbes declared is "inching towards a tipping point of becoming the latest arena headliner," dropped their latest anthem "RIPTIDE" in 2022 and it saw frontman Caleb Shomo put the pain of the past in the rearview mirror as he takes the steering wheel from fate to command his own destiny. The track memorializes the struggle with mental health and self-acceptance, which has defined so much of Beartooth since its inception. NAUT Reveals New Song + Music Video for "Damocles"

Emerging U.K. post punk outfit NAUT will be releasing a brand new full length, 'Hunt,' on February 24, 2022 via Season of Mist, making it the band's debut to the label! The band is now sharing the second single, "Damocles," along with a music video! The clip can be found below.

NAUT comments, "With this third single from 'Hunt,' we wanted to demonstrate the other sounds that influence our music, outside of the hard rock and post-punk. 'Damocles' is a sprawling, slithering slow-build of a track, taking as much influence from the new romantics as it does gothic rock. It wasn't a conscious decision to make the song take this shape, instead we trusted our instincts and followed them to what we consider new ground for the band. Ground that we will no doubt return to in future.

The video's use of projected images blasted across a landscape marred by the pursuit of all that glitters, who's lights shine in the night like car headlights, quite literally make us a part of the city we call home. Filmed in the freezing cold January night, the creation process of this video perfectly reflects the song's message of a cold and uncaring world, one in which we must create our own fire and tread carefully, lest we fall from our path. One misstep and the blade swings free."

NAUT are a four piece drum machine rock band from Bristol, whose shared love of classic rock and metal, alongside reverence for the post-punk pioneers of the late 70s and early 80s makes itself known from the start. Triumphant synths and scything guitars entwine with danceable beats, while driving bass-lines, moving to pounding drums, create a dynamic and shifting rhythm section. The tracks pulse with a raw post-punk energy but always remain danceable and (perhaps most dangerously) catchy. The lyrics touch on mental paralysis, impending doom and divided peoples, and with the path our world is currently on they have become more relevant than ever.

Starting out as an evening sharing riffs in a flat in Bristol, the first tracks for NAUT had their genesis in 2016. Those first riffs, written by Gavin (vocals) & Jack (guitars) grew to become something much more compelling and after that initial moment, the idea of a band was born. Gathering musicians from Bristol’s small but active post-punk scene and armed with rough recordings, NAUTstarted working on the tracks as a full band in June 2017. 

It all rapidly fell into place. NAUT's first show was in September 2017 followed by two shows supporting Grave Pleasures before the year was out, and they entered the studio the following November. Raise the Lights - their debut EP was recorded at RS Studios in Bristol by Jamie Elton (Moss, Amulet, Spite) and was mastered by Orgone Studios (Ulver, Grave Pleasures, Ghost). The final mastered tracks were ready in March 2018 and plans were put in motion for a June release of a debut EP that made people take notice. The intention was to break out into the world and NAUT did just that, with coverage in Kerrang! Magazine as well as a host of smaller blogs, publications and radio. 

2018 saw more live shows with Abysmal Grief and David Eugene Edwards & Alexander Hacke as well as a sell out show in Bristol, and the start of some new material. 

Not content to sit still, NAUT were soon ready to enter the studio again with new tracks written at the end of 2018, initially planned as a double A single, but growing into a 3 track EP. The song writing was rooted firmly in the foundations laid by Raise the Lights, but also broke new ground. With a solo in the title track Semele provided by Henrik Palm (Henrik Palm, ex-In Solitude, ex-Ghost) and the same winning combination of recording with Jamie Elton and Orgone Studios taking care of mastering duties the tracks were finished by April 2019. 

The 'Semele' EP was released in November 2019 and was well-received. Featured in multiple high profile websites such as Louder, Vive le Rock, Distorted Sound and more, the EP helped establish NAUT on the scene as a band to watch.

Alongside this, NAUT played several more shows, including supporting post-punk legends Pink Turns Blue and playing the warmup show for Incineration Festival in London alongside Idle Hands. 

'Threads' and 'Hand in Hand' were recorded in late 2019, building on the spirit of experimentation in the 'Semele' EP whilst calling on elements from Raise the Lights, creating a tantalising mix of the two. The songs were once again recorded by Jamie Elton with mastering handled by Orgone Studios.

During this time NAUT remained an active presence in the UK live scene, sharing the stage with bands as diverse as their fan base, from Discharge to Orange Goblin.

The end of 2019 also saw a change in NAUT’s format, with the departure of their drummer. NAUT had started life as a drum machine project before the addition of Kenny Selway for the debut EP, and after a string of changes, the obvious choice was to return to that format. This opened up new avenues for musical exploration, on and off stage.

With the spectre of a global pandemic looming large, in March 2020 NAUTplayed their last live appearance of that year in a sold out St Pancras Church in London with King Dude.

With that the world of live music went silent.

However NAUT remained active below the surface, 'Threads' and 'Hand in Hand' were released as a double A side 7” in June 2020. With this release NAUT further gained the attention of fans from across the spectrum of dark music. Word spread further around the scene adding fans to the ever growing following, with Hand in Hand featured in Kerrang! Magazine’s Kerrang! Rock Chart and a number of other high profile goth and post-punk playlists and the music video, creatively produced under the restrictions of a strict lockdown, garnering a strong reception.

Not content with releasing these new songs, work on a debut album was also underway. Over the long months of restrictions and lockdowns NAUT crafted the demos for their debut album, making the most of the dormant state of the music world, something special was being fashioned. The turmoil of 2020 also opened other opportunities and NAUT struck a partnership with Doomstar booking agency, ready for whenever the venues open.

Now NAUT are excited to have signed with Seasons of Mist for the release of their debut album. The label has come to represent all shades of musical darkness and feels like a strong pairing for NAUT, as although the band are less extreme in their musical approach, dark music in all its facets underlies all that they do. 

NAUT can't wait to share this upcoming slab of infectious and pulsing drum machine rock with you all.

Today, award-winning Finnish heavy metal artist TARJA announced her upcoming 2023 Living the Dream Tour.

Produced by Live Nation, the 12-city run kicks off on Wednesday, June 14 in Philadelphia, PA at Theatre of The Living Arts, with stops across the U.S. in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and more before wrapping up on Friday, June 30 in Berkeley, CA at The UC Theater.

The tour will support her most recent album Best Of: Living The Dream, which was released December 2 via earMUSIC.

 The album was released in the U.S. digitally and as a Digipak CD, and will be available in deluxe formats coming out on February 24: a Limited 2CD+Blu-ray Mediabook, 2LP (Gatefold, 180g, black), Limited Crystal Clear 2LP (Gatefold, 180g), and a Limited Box Set. ABOUT TARJA:
The brightest star of the symphonic rock scene, Tarja Turunen is certainly the most internationally well-known Finnish voice in the world of music. Soprano, composer, and songwriter, she reached international fame co-founding and being for nine years the voice and image of the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish, collecting with them Gold and Platinum Record Awards in several countries.

The unique combination of metal music with Tarja's soprano lead vocals gave birth to a new genre, quickly achieving critical and commercial popularity and inspiring many other metal bands and performers. But singing only somebody else's creations was not her destiny, and her talent could fully bloom only outside that crate. Tarja had to walk alone.

SHOCK ROCK MOVIE FILMMAKERS RELEASE EXTENDED TRAILER

Shock Rock Movie directors, LORD ZANE (SOCIETY 1) and DAGON DESTROYER, have just released an extended trailer. The public can now watch 7 minutes and 25 seconds of footage now available on Youtube. Familiar faces you’ll see in the film’s trailer are DAVE NAVARRO, JACOBY SHADDIX (PAPA ROACH), KELLY CLARKSON, ALICE COOPER, and WAYNE STATIC (STATIC-X).

The film follows the life of MATT “THE LORD” ZANE, notorious front-man of SOCIETY 1, who is known for his extreme on-stage antics, including body suspension, live orgies, face humping hecklers, and stage masturbation. At one point, Matt Zane was the most famous porn director known for his Backstage Sluts films, which solds millions of copies worldwide. Matt Zane would go on to break several world records, including suspending from 4 meat hooks at Download Festival while he performed with his band in front of a hundred-thousand people.

DAGON DESTROYER (film co-director) comments, “Matt Zane is a character that has always fascinated me. The entertainment industry hates him, and yet celebrities use him for their careers. I’ve seen documentaries on shock rock and shocking performance artists, and Matt Zane is never mentioned. It’s like he’s purposely ignored in an attempt to erase him from history.”

MATT ZANE mentions in the film that the moral landscape is so different now than it was 20 years ago, and that he’s worried about how the band will be received during their 2023 reunion tour.

“The band is getting millions of views on TikTok for stage antics we just won’t replicate in today’s political climate. I know some things will cross the line but others I’m not so sure about. It’s difficult to know how far we’re going to be able to push it in 2023.”

A part of the movie will be filmed on SOCIETY 1’s tour with STATIC-X, FEAR FACTORY, and DOPE in 2023. The filmmakers are currently working with their distributor on the
film’s release date.

Morgan Wallen took to social media earlier today to share official details about his third studio project, One Thing At A Time, set for release on Big Loud / Mercury / Republic worldwide on Friday, March 3, 2023.
 
Opening with confessional “Born With A Beer In My Hand” and closing with poignant “Dying Man,” Wallen takes the listener on a very personal journey throughout the expansive project.
 
“This record represents the last few years of my life, the highs and the lows,” Wallen shares. “It also brings together the musical influences that have shaped me as an artist – country, alternative and hip-hop. There are 36 songs on this album because we just kept exploring with fresh lyrics, music and production ideas and these are the songs that felt right to me. It was a blast to create, and I was so grateful to be back in the studio to lay this out for my fans.” 
 
Showcasing his wide-ranging influences and creativity – he interpolated The Allman Brothers' “Midnight Rider” – showcased on “Everything I Love;” a sample of Young Thug’s “Lifestyle” interpolated on “180 (Lifestyle);” collaborations with Eric Church on “Man Made A Bar,” HARDY on “In The Bible,” and “Cowgirls” with ERNEST; finishing with “Dying Man” (Codeine it got Elvis / Whiskey it got Hank / I always thought somethin’ like that / Might send me on my way) – the prolific album runs the gambit.  
 
“I just try to tell it how it is – the good, the bad, the love, the heartbreak. That’s all I know how to do,” says Wallen. “My hope is that this album makes my fans proud; makes ‘em laugh, smirk, cry, and think – just like it did for me.”
 
Furthering the connection to his roots, Wallen’s sister, Ashlyne Wallen, sings harmony on “Outlook.” He recalls, “I grew up in church singing three-part harmonies with my two sisters. That’s how I learned to sing, so this was a full-circle moment for Ashlyne and me.” The cover art also holds family significance for Wallen – photographed at the home of his Mamaw (Grandmother) Boots, who is no longer with us. “My Mamaw Boots helped raise me. I had such a special bond with her, so I wanted to honor her with this new record.”
 
Three new songs off the album arrive tonight to start the countdown to One Thing At A Time; “Last Night,” “Everything I Love” and “I Wrote The Book."

Wallen has continually released music since 2021’s Dangerous: The Double Album, which remains Billboard’slongest running Top 10 album in history for a solo artist with 104-and-counting total weeks spent in the Top 10 (eclipsing Adele’s 21 and Bruce Springsteen’s Born In The USA).
 
With so much new music, the stage is set for his One Night At A Time World Tour. Produced by Live Nation in North America and Frontier Touring in Australia/New Zealand, his 63-date/30 stadium show tour kicks off overseas March 15-24 in New Zealand and Australia with HARDY before returning stateside on April 15 at Milwaukee’s American Family Field, then hitting New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium, Chicago’s Wrigley Field, and Boston’s Fenway Park with Parker McCollum, and wrapping on Oct. 7 at Tacoma Dome in Washington. Rising London indie pop gem Mari Dangerfield will release her album 'Love And Other Machines', a collection of 12 catchy synth-driven alternative pop tunes, on CD via Dimple Discs on February 3. She also presents fun buoyant videos for the uber-catchy 'Screen Time', one of several songs on the album concerning technology and its effects, and the endearing and reverie-filled electro-ballad 'The Stars Were Wrong'.  

Hailing from Ealing, West London, Mari Dangerfield is a multi-talented and colourful alternative / electronic pop artist, producer, writer and musician with a knack for fragile songs bursting with originality. Coining her sound "Quirkpop of the mind, body and laptop", her productions are characterised by rich vocal harmonies, catchy hooks and cinematic arrangements.

Broadly a concept album, 'Love And Other Machines' explores the connections between emotions and technology and is filled with love songs that use objects and gadgets as songwriting metaphors. She made her first appearance on the music scene after winning a Mute Records video competition.

Building on a string of self-released singles and videos since 2018, she has been able to build a devoted audience, both online and for her unique live shows. Already something of a polymath, she records, arranges and produces all her own material, as well as designing the visual content for artwork, new media and video. She’s also known for re-popularising the Stylophone, which features in her early singles and her live set.

Thematically, many of the songs are connected to technology (whether from exhaustion of its use or anguish from the way it highlights loneliness, dependency or one's psychological condition), with other songs about love and relationships. 'Love Machine' is the anchor that binds those themes tightly together, exploring how love can be a mechanical process (certainly on the biological and psychological side of things). 'Coping Mechanism', 'Virtually', 'Screen Time' and 'Webcam' continue this exploration.

“This album is so much more than just a collection of songs to me – It’s a sort of record of the first few years of my career, and an even longer period of my life. It reveals so much about me, personally and professionally. It feels like my artist's palette has been formed. If you really listen to these songs, you can get to know me on quite a deep level. There’s a lot of my reality embedded within the concept and the stories. I would have been lost without making music. It saved my mental wellbeing,” says Mari Dangerfield.

This album is as diverse in sound as it feels in how it’s travelled with me as I’ve developed as an individual over the past three years: No song sounds the same and, as I’m sure you’ll agree, it feels like I’m in a very different place at the end from where I was when it began. Undeniably, some of the songs delve into some quite personal struggles of mine and were inspired by my time in therapy between 2015 and 2018, as I came out of some incredibly dark places. I was so lucky to have been gifted all this time to learn about myself and my inner wounds, and not only improve as a person, but to be left with the tools to continue to reflect on my struggles, as undoubtedly, they would and do return in different guises."

The iconic, midwestern, multi-day event was the stuff of legends and is returning to prominence in 2023. Hatebreed frontman and podcaster Jamey Jasta purchased the rights last year and today announces the lineup for Milwaukee Metal Fest 2023.

CLOAK Kicks Off U.S. Tour, Performing New Music

Atlanta black metal outfit CLOAK will be embarking on an early 2023 tour throughout the East Coast in support of IMPERIAL TRIUMPHANT! The trek will kick off tomorrow, January 31 in Newark, NJ and will conclude on February 10 in Chesapeake, VA. Then, the band will hit the road again in May 2023 to perform at the Carolina Chainsaw Massacre Fest II in Greensboro, NC on May 6 followed by the inaugural Hell in the Harbor festival, which takes place the weekend of May 26-28 in Baltimore, MD. In addition, CLOAK recently revealed that their highly-anticipated third full-length is on track for a late spring/early summer release. Fans who attend the upcoming shows will get a sneak preview of what's to come as the band will be performing brand new music that is not yet released!

Unyielding darkness and brutality emerge from the deep south of the United States.  Atlanta, GA based quartet CLOAK blend the sounds of black metal, rock ‘n’ roll, and homegrown Southern sludge to create their own unique and menacing sound.

Progressive rock band The Contortionist release a new box set, Retrospective: Live from Atlanta, today.  The box set boasts three double LPs comprised of recordings from the band’s 2021 live-stream performances. The 3 live streamed performances cover every facet of the band’s career, including a full album performance of the critically acclaimed full-length Clairvoyant, as well as an entire set focused on the band’s heavier catalog.
 
Featuring over 30 tracks, the impressive package is a limited-edition set, with only 1500 copies available worldwide. It comes housed in a 12x12x2 embossed box and features translucent acetate overlay alternate covers for each of the three live stream sets. Each live stream set comes pressed on 12” 180g double vinyl in a beautiful gatefold package. Fans can purchase the box set here.

Guitarist Cameron Maynard says, “When we initially conceived this project, our objective was to give something to our fans amidst the inability to physically perform to a live audience. As it turns out, we were so happy with the end result that we thought it would only be appropriate to release in a more tangible way. We have always wanted to release a box set like this, and after seeing some original ideas for the art, we knew it had to be done.”
 
Keyboardist Eric Guenther adds, “Although the motivation for this project was born out of uncertainty and cancellations, the opportunity to perform and create the definitive musical artifact for this band’s history became a silver lining. To me, this is years of work finally realized, and thanks to our fans’ response, we were able to make this project timeless with a proper release. This is the best representation of The Contortionist to date, and to us, the recording that defines the identity of this band and how we sounded in the first 10+ years. Thanks to our fans for making this band real. Also, we can’t wait to share what we have been working on.”

MNRK Music Group Signs The Slugganauts

MNRK Music Group announces its newest signing, heavy metal band The Slugganauts!  The Slugganauts are featured in the BunnyKitty universe, an animated world created by legendary graffiti artist Dave ‘Persue’ Ross. The Slugganauts will release a new single, “No More Gimmicks,” in February, followed by more new music in 2023, all real-world compositions by musicians on the MNRK Music Group roster. About this new project, Persue says, “The resurrection will be televised.”

In 2001, Persue’s graffiti propelled him forward into the world of skateboarding and aesthetics, eventually helping him pioneer the marketing space of some of the most iconic streetwear brands, including DC, Circa, and Osiris. In 2001, amidst his abstract letterforms, Persue created the character BunnyKitty, the beloved cat in a bunny suit character, which took on a life of her own, and forever changed the trajectory of Persue’s career.
 
BunnyKitty was born on a wall, but now she lives on the page and on the blockchain, first in The Origins of BunnyKitty (2016), then in her newly-released adventure, BunnyKitty in the City (December 2022), and most recently an NFT sale in collaboration with Web3 studio, Notables, which sold out in just 3 minutes. The Slugganauts' first single will release in February, followed by more new music this year. MNRK plans to release vinyls, band merch, music videos and stage live performances.

A collection of singles and EPs drew a devoted fanbase and the attention of Oshie Bichar, bassist for Beartooth. Bichar enlisted his management, and the pair took Archetypes Collide under their wing. With high demand and numerous sold-out shows marking his 2023 return to the road, Wyoming native Ian Munsick extends his recently launched Long Live Cowgirls Tour into May 2023 with seven new dates. The run includes his first headlining arena shows at the Horizon Events Center in Clive, Iowa; Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston, Nebraska and First Interstate Arena at MetraPark in Billings, Montana; as well as his previously announced Ryman Auditorium headlining debut. Tickets for the run are available HERE.
 
Fellow Wyoming native and son of country legend Chris LeDoux, Ned LeDoux will join Munsick on select dates. The tour, named after the song that has garnered over 74.5 million global streams to date and topped SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown, kicked off Jan. 20 with a sold out show at the legendary Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas. Today, in celebration of the one-year anniversary of its release, Munsick showcases his knack for strumming a fiddle with the special release of a stripped down version, “Long Live Cowgirls (Me and a Fiddle),” out now. The Long Live Cowgirls Tour compliments the news of Munsick’s sophomore project White Buffalo, due April 7, 2023 on Warner Music Nashville. White Buffalo is an ode to the wild landscapes and complex characters of Munsick’s homeland, including a real-life glimpse of the bond between Native American and cowboy culture.
 
Reflecting on its meaning, Munsick notes, “The White Buffalo is a sacred symbol for the plains tribes of Native America. With its return brings prosperity and rebirth. Growing up a stones throw away from the Crow Reservation in southern Montana, Native American culture runs rich in our community through traditions, history and legends. I remember first hearing about The White Buffalo through my father. As rancher, musician and teacher, my dad has very close ties with members of the Crow, Sioux and Northern Cheyenne tribes from the classroom and the livestock trade. He passed down this love of Native American culture to my two older brothers and me. 

"Towards the end of making this album, I knew the body of songs I had were special in that they paid tribute to the land and people I love most. My music had evolved with my life. Since my last album, I had become a father and husband… two life changing events. In a way I had been reborn, and so had my music. To pay homage to the culture of the region that raised me, White Buffalo was the perfect title to encapsulate this project. I hope it brings green grass and big medicine to whoever is looking for it.”
 
It’s a deep-seeded respect that is often misunderstood in other parts of the country, and one that Munsick hopes to shine a light on through the release of the album and unique collaborations with Native American artists, including Isaiah Stewart.
 
Stewart shares, “Ian and I have a passion for the West and the foundation that it was built on. I highlight and celebrate the early illustrations that built the identity of western cowboy culture that was compiled from all cultures that helped build it. My personal work focuses on the Native Cowboy that has developed from bareback warriors to ranchers in the saddle.”
 
White Buffalo has already yielded the loping “Horses & Weed,” faith-driven love song “More Than Me,” standout duet “Long Live Cowgirls” with two-time CMA Award winner Cody Johnson and Munsick’s recent release “River Run.” Lauded by Billboard for its “gorgeous fiddle,” the “organic musical romp” paints a vivid image of the beauty of love, longing and their natural symbolism. About Ian Munsick:

Ned LeDoux is carrying on the family tradition created by legendary father Chris LeDoux, but he’s also charting his own course, and Buckskin is the latest step on that journey. “I hope I inspire people to never forget where you came from,” he says. “That’s one thing I’m very proud of. I’m carrying on a tradition, but I’m writing my own story. I’m very proud of my family and friends and there’s one piece of advice my mom gave me when we were kids: ‘Never forget where you came from and show respect to people no matter where you are.’ So with this album I hope to inspire and show people, ‘Hey this old cowboy isn’t changing for nobody.’ I want people to know they should never give up on a dream. The alt rock band has shared its first new single in three years in the form of "Sonic Bloom." Watch the video below.

Locket have crafted a downright pretty love letter with "Sonic Bloom." Lyrically, the song is a celebration of love and appreciating the things one has in life. Sonically, the high-energy and buzzy post-hardcore riffs will remind you of your favorite alternative bands of the '00s while the choruses invite singing along while throwing your hands in the air and dancing around the living room like no one is watching. It's a razor sharp anthem with a heart of gold.

"Since the last record was released, a lot has changed. I got married, Cory got married, Travis will be getting married in June— we've all experienced a shift in perspective when it comes to what's most important in our lives now. 'Sonic Bloom' is a celebration of love, embracing happiness, appreciating what we have. On a personal level, it’s a love letter to my wife, my friends, and this band," says singer Brad Garcia.

 Locket, whose core members (Garcia, guitarist Cory Bergeron and bassist Travis Morrison) have achieved more than they ever could have dreamed of when they started out 10 years ago in a band under a different name. Once reforming as Locket, they released the album All Out in late 2019. The record earned positive press from publications including Billboard, The Alternative,and New Noise, and the single “Hunnie” has racked up more than 1.3 million Spotify streams.
