CABAL Release Music Video For "Like Vultures" Ahead Of The Never Say Die Tour

Ahead of the upcoming Never Say Die tour, Denmark's most visceral deathcore export CABAL have released an earth-shaking new live video for their song 'Like Vultures'. The track is a fierce and confrontational cut from their new album Magno Interitus that was released on October 21st via Nuclear Blast Records.

Singer Andreas Bjulver states:
"We live in a world were people are forced to live in absolutely poverty and misery, starving to death and dying in the streets, while the planet is dying, because of a small number of people in the absolute tops greed. Like Vultures calls out these people, to let them know that we see them and they'll get what's coming to them. We will be heading out on the Never Say Die tour in a few days from now and this video is compiled by a bunch of the footage from last years edition of that tour. We can't wait to get back out on the road for this years edition of the tour."

Watch the video for ‘Like Vultures’ below.

Magno Interitus is available as Digipack [limited edition], Black Single LP, Crystal Clear with Gold + Black Splatter Single LP [limited to 500 units, Mailorder + Wholesale exclusive], Crystal Clear with Red + Black Splatter Single LP [limited to 500 units, USA exclusive], Gold + Black Marble Single LP [limited to 300 units, bandshop exclusives] and on all streaming platforms.

Recently, CABAL announced an additional EU tour supporting DYING FETUS for February 2023 - find all tour dates below!

CABAL is one of the most brutal and promising heavy acts hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark. The band aims to create a visceral and doom-laden atmosphere throughout both their music and visual expression. The production is crystal clear, whilst the songwriting draws inspiration from everything from black and death metal to djent and hardcore.
Since the release of their debut album "Mark of Rot" in 2018, the young band has managed to make a name for themselves in both Denmark and the rest of the world by playing renowned festivals like Copenhell, Roskilde Festival, Euroblast Festival and Complexity Fest as well as touring in Europe, Japan and North America.
CABAL released the sophomore album "Drag Me Down" in April 2020 - a dark descent into a personal hell brought to life by crushing instrumentals, an oppressive atmosphere and dark personal lyrics delivered with relentless intensity, while still leaving room for experimentation and expansion of CABAL’s signature sound. Add to this guest appearances from metal titans TRIVIUM's Matt Heafy, rising metalcore stars POLARIS’ Jamie Hails and Denmark’s Blackgaze darlings MØL’s Kim Song Sternkopf and there is no doubt that CABAL is a band with friends in every corner of the metal scene.

SYLVAINE Announces Signature Tea, "Apples Aligned, Coming Undone"

Norwegian multi-instrumentalist SYLVAINE is now revealing her very own signature tea in collaboration with BrutaliTeas! "Apples Aligned, Coming Undone" is an apple crème brulée loose leaf tea created with ceylon black tea, gunpowder green tea, apple pieces, cinnamon, natural candy apple and crème brulée flavors, rose hips, rose petals, and marigold flowers and comes just in time for the autumn season! The tea can be ordered HERE and is available worldwide.

Additional details for the tea can also be found HERE.

SYLVAINE comments, "Autumn is probably my favorite season, with all its beautiful color changes and all the yummy produce that appears around this time of year. I’ve always had a strong love for warm spices, such as cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, ginger and so forth, so when I got the opportunity to do this collaboration with Brutaliteas, I really wanted to make a blend that utilized those warm flavor notes. Apples being one of the trademark fruits of fall and also a wonderful partner for all of these spices, became the natural base flavor for my blend, in combination with notes of vanilla and caramel, alluding to the classic French dessert créme brûlée.

"Being a huge fan of everything sweet, I’m super excited to present this black dessert tea to all of you, hoping you will dig it just as much as I do! The best way to enjoy a big cup of this apple créme brûlée tea, is during a cold autumn/winter evening, curled up under a blanket and playing some season appropriate music (did someone say October Rust...?). If you in addition are able to pair it with either a burning fire, moon light or some beautiful nature landscapes, you are all set!"

This December, SYLVAINE will be embarking on a headlining tour across Europe, in which she will make the tea available at her merch table! The full itinerary can be found below!

SYLVAINE is supporting the release of her brand new fourth studio album, 'Nova,' which is out NOW! In addition, the previously sold-out vinyl is now repressed and back in stock in the blueberry marble color! Stream/download/order HERE.

To speak to Sylvaine, the one-woman multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer born Kathrine Shepard, is to speak to some spirit that exists beyond the veil of convention and stereotypes. This is not a woman playing to the vogue dark melodic folklorist trope that has become so prevalent in the metal scene but rather, this is a woman who is a serious and classically trained composer and arranger whose songs, that originate on unplugged electric guitars in lavender and black bedrooms, end up exploding against the unlimited conventions of what modern music can accomplish.

For some time, Kathrine Shepard has been seen as the petite pixie of the Norwegian black gaze scene but her small eleven features and lightheartedness belie the woman warrior behind Nova, her complex and personal fourth release. Following her 2018 Atoms Aligned Coming Undone release, Sylvaine (a play on the name of one of her beloved French poets, Paul Verlaine) gives us Nova, an album that is both a musical and personal reawakening of a singer/composer finding her way in this world.

The Lord of the Rings type choir arrangement heralds in the opening of her latest release as we the entranced listeners follow her to the realm of Lothlorien. The creation of this ambitious release began in 2019, before the world changed before all of our eyes. Experiencing a personal loss in a time the world was suffering a collective loss, Sylvaine composed on her guitar and wrote in her notebooks, eventually leading her into the small rooms of Drudenhaus in early 2021. Sequestered away in the countryside of France, the Norwegian native and her musical cohorts would all contract Covid. Asthmatic since birth, our heroine isolated herself in a small room to score out the different soprano and alto melodies of an actual choir to make her vision for the opening track “Nova,” come to life. Sung in an imagined language, the syllables of NO-VA continued to emerge, suggesting to the singer something linguistically symbolic and important.

“I’ve been wanting to write a choir piece since my 'Wistful' days,” she says, “Just a purely vocal piece. I love harmonies and the most personal instrument you have is yourself, your voice. I wanted to really show who I am this time around.”

Naked on the cover, which may raise some eyebrows, Sylvaine insists to her fans that this is a symbol of her own vulnerability and personal rebirth that transpired over these years of creating Nova. “Nova" in terms of language is connected to words such as nuova (Italian) or nueva (Spanish), meaning ‘new’ and speaks to a rebirth, to loss, the temporality of life, grieving as nothing lasting forever, but looking forward as new doors are forever opening.

Album tracks “Mono No Aware” and “Fortapt” are compositions in the 10-minute range, showing the progressive skills of the multi-instrumentalist’s musical mastery and magic. Taking the loud and quiet back-and-forth of the ‘90s a step farther, she manages to haunt every note with primal sincerity. “Fortapt” is a particularly unique track, paying homage to Sylvaine’s Norwegian roots. And while critics may want to pin a song like “Nowhere, Still Somewhere” in the shoegaze or dreampop category, her mysterious resonance adds something to the composition that makes Sylvaine’s work defy categorization.

Much like Joan of Arc, Sylvaine is not a one-woman army without her legionaries. Instead of enlisting members of the folk metal glitterati, she has been a bit more selective about her surprise guests on her album, choosing Scottish violinist Lambert Segura of SAOR and cellist Nostarion aka Patrik Urban, whom she met while performing a very special acoustic show in Belgium in 2019. For Sylvaine, it felt emotionally appropriate to weave classically trained instrumentalists into her work, demonstrated on the last track on the album, "Everything Must Come to an End."

Unlike so many of the pixie dream girls haunting the American metal landscape right now, Sylvaine sings but also screams from the very depths. There is absolutely no one in the metal game right now who can match her vocal range, which traverses from the elvish sounds of Enya and Lisa Gerard to the black metal Ericthro screeches of her kvlt counterparts of the land of ice and snow.

In the U.S., we have a tendency to clarify bedroom pop as music that is composed in the feminine space of one’s bedroom confines. Although orchestral and incredibly composed, Sylvaine does not shy away from admitting her songs always start bare bones—almost all of her compositions begin with an unplugged electric guitar. “A melody and a chord progression should be able to stand on its own without any effects whatsoever. The song will go on to manifest itself in different ways but that main guitar part has to be solid enough to emotionally work just by itself, “ she says.

But to this lover of Verlaine and the French Romantic poets (as well as a diehard Type O Negative fan), the written word is still paramount to her heart. After all, she explains, “Music is an attempt to avoid the words we can’t always express in life.”

Industrial Juggernauts Fresh Off Appearances

With NIN In Cleveland & Louder Than Life Festival

To Offer Set List of Classic Hits & New Tracks From

Latest Album Moral Hygiene

Ministry has one more surprise planned for fans this year, announcing the act’s first-ever livestream to be hosted on streaming platform HITKOR. Featuring the full band and possible special guests, the show will take place November 20 at 3 pm PT/5 pm CT/6 pm ET/10 pm GMT and will feature classic hits from the band’s 40-year history as well as new tracks from the latest album, Moral Hygiene, out now on Nuclear Blast Records.

The special streaming event will be available in more than 30 countries and was planned with European Ministry fans in mind after the band had to regrettably cancel a multi-country tour this fall due to unforeseen circumstances.

Frontman and creator of Ministry Al Jourgensen says, “We never intended for Cleveland with NIN to be our last show this year. Due to circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel Europe but we didn’t want to end 2022 without one last show, and this will be one for the books.”

Tickets are on sale now and available only at HITKOR.com. LIVE tickets are

$17.99 (to both stream live and watch on demand). ALL ACCESS passes are $19.99 and include the stream plus bonus, behind-the-scenes content prior to the main show, as well as an exclusive interview with Ministry.

Ministry is fresh off the road, appearing with Nine Inch Nails and Nitzer Ebb for a once-in-a-lifetime show in Cleveland as well as Louder Than Life festival in September. In April, the industrial stalwarts wrapped up the much-anticipated Industrial Strength Tour that celebrated the 30th anniversary of landmark album The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste, receiving some of the best reviews of their career.

“The Industrial Strength Tour … was nothing less than extraordinary, complete with an ode to their early tours” –Outburn

“It’s shows like this that restore faith in unadulterated music” —The Vinyl District

“Out of all the incarnations of Ministry throughout the years, this could be the tightest unit musically in the band’s illustrious career” —Splice Magazine

“This was a show as unique as its frontman, shrugging off many conventions in favor of a performance that truly fit Ministry’s legacy. …The hunger for this tour was evident, and made this unforgettable headlining set even stronger” —Bravewords

“As someone who’s seen Ministry many, many times in his life, I’ll say this show was different. The classic tracks had a renewed feel and sound and worked really well. From the audience reaction, this was a good combination” —In The Loop

“Ending with new material, it was clear the band hasn't lost its touch. The chugging, siren-sounding guitars, machinelike drumbeats, electronic noises and Jourgensen's raspy talk-box vocals seemed to embody the state of the world today as accurately as they did during the ’90s” —San Antonio Current

“These guys aren’t going anywhere, and the music world’s a better place because of it” —Glide Magazine

In addition to creator and founder Al Jourgensen, Ministry’s full band will appear in the livestream show, including drummer Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour, Soulfly, Nausea), guitarists Cesar Soto (Man The Mute) and Monte Pittman (Madonna, Prong), bassist Paul D’Amour (Tool, Feersum Ennjin), and keyboardist John Bechdel (Killing Joke, Fear Factory).

As well as classic hits, some of the night’s set list will include material from Moral Hygiene, Ministry’s 15th studio album that features some of the project’s strongest and most inspired material to date. It’s the creative masterwork of founder and creator Jourgensen who spent the pandemic pause ruminating on the new world we as a society have found ourselves in – while pondering just what we are going to do about it.

The 10 tracks are a societal manifesto and plea for civilization to get back to a set of standards that lives up to and embraces our humanity. Previous singles have included "Alert Level" (sounding the alarm on the state society is in), "Good Trouble" (a rallying cry to fight for human rights in homage to Civil Rights leader John Lewis), “Disinformation” (the dangers of consuming mass media without critical thinking) and "Search And Destroy" (the unique take on The Stooges classic). The latter features guitar virtuoso Billy Morrison (Billy Idol/Royal Machines) who is also heavily featured on a number of songs on the album.

Moral Hygiene is available now through Nuclear Blast Records in CD, vinyl and digital download formats at the following links:

ABOUT MINISTRY

Born in 1981 in Chicago, Ministry has been the lifetime passion project of founder Al Jourgensen, considered to be the pioneer of industrial music. In its early days, Ministry was identifiable by its heavy synth-pop material in line with the new sounds and technology that were being developed in the ‘80s. Ministry’s output began with four 12” singles on Wax Trax! Records in 1981 before the first LP With Sympathy in 1983 via Arista Records. As time progressed however, so did Ministry, quickly developing a harsher, and more stylized sound that the band soon became infamous for on seminal albums Twitch (1986), The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), and The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste (1989). With the release of Psalm 69: The Way to Succeed and The Way to Suck Eggs (1992), Ministry hit an all-time high in the mainstream musical realm and received its first Grammy nomination. In total, Ministry has been nominated for a Grammy award six times. Eight more albums would follow before an indefinite break in 2013, only to be unearthed again in 2018 with AmeriKKKant, continuing to reflect Jourgensen’s views on the frightening state of society and politics. The band’s latest effort, Moral Hygiene, came out October 1, 2021 on Nuclear Blast Records, ahead of upcoming tours planned for 2022.

Their highly anticipated 10th studio album Mr. Sun was released on September 16, 2022.

Dalton Dover Signs with Universal Music Group Nashville

Country newcomer Dalton Dover signs with Universal Music Group Nashville. Dover, who has earned praise as a “master country talent,” will release his highly anticipated new music via Mercury Nashville.

“All of us at UMG have been fans of Dalton for a long time,” says Mike Dungan, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group Nashville. “For months our staff has filled the rooms at almost every one of his live performances in Nashville. As we worked our way through the legal process, our four label promotion teams were fighting over which label he would go to and who got to work with him. We are thrilled that he chose to be a member of our family and anxious to release the first taste of music with the Mercury logo on it.”

“I’m so excited to join the Mercury and UMG Nashville family,” shares Dover. “I wouldn’t be here without the support from my wonderful wife and family, my team, and the fans who have listened to and shared the songs we’ve released so far. This is just the beginning, and we can’t wait to show you what we’ve been working on!"

Dover first achieved prominence after appearing on Season 16 of “The Voice,” where he earned a chair turn from legendary country artist Blake Shelton. Two years later, Dover has continued to build his fan base on TikTok, garnering millions of views with his popular #CatchMeOffGuard series of cover song mashups. The series has earned the praise of country artists including Jimmie Allen, Luke Combs, Kidd G and Kameron Marlowe. Dover’s songs “You Got A Small Town” and “Baby I Am” helped the 23-year-old earn a place on Spotify’s Hot Country 2022 Artists to Watch, along with a spotlight as Billboard’s February Country Rookie of the Month and a nod for MusicRow’s 2022 Discovery Artist of the Year. His TikTok track “Baby I Am” had nearly 500k streams and 1.1k downloads in its first week.

About Dalton Dover
Lauded by MusicRow as a “master country talent,” twenty-three-year-old Dalton Dover first started singing at church as a kid, winning his fifth-grade school talent show performing Justin Bieber’s “Baby.” In that moment Dover’s love of performing was born. By the age of 16 he had picked up a guitar and started teaching himself to play, yet it was his grandfather who turned him on to country music and artists such as Keith Whitley, Rhett Akins, Joe Diffie and Steve Wariner. Enamored with the honesty and storytelling found in country music, Whitley’s “Don’t Close Your Eyes” was the first song Dover taught himself to play on guitar. Performances at local bars soon followed along with sharing covers of some of his favorite songs on TikTok. It was there he caught the ear of producer Matt McV and A&R veteran and founder of Droptine Recordings, Jim Catino, who quickly signed Dover.

Dover is married to his high school sweetheart, Faith, and the two have lived in the same small rural Georgia town, population 1,200, all their lives. The Dovers hope to give their two young children, Taylor and Alyiah, the same idyllic childhood they had growing up — the life one finds in a small town. And it is that pace and familiarity he enjoys so much that he sings about on his debut track “You Got a Small Town.” Produced by McV, “You Got A Small Town” quickly garnered critical acclaim from Billboard, MusicRow, Country Now and Wide Open Country. With his debut and his follow-up “Baby I Am” earning notable playlisting, Dover was named a Spotify Hot Country 2022 Artist to Watch. Dover’s latest single “Damn Good Life” is available now.

After opening for Luke Comb’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium show in Atlanta, Ga. this summer, Dover set out on a seven-date run of his own headlining shows, performing across multiple locations of Blake Shelton’s Ole Red. Dover is currently on the road with his captivating live set on Priscilla Block’s Welcome to the Block Party Tour which runs through the fall. MICHAEL MONROE Releases Spine Chilling Video for "Derelict Palace"

'I LIVE TOO FAST TO DIE YOUNG'

OUT NOW

NEW LIVE DATES ANNOUNCED

Today, on All Hallows’ Eve, Michael Monroe releases his video for the majestically dark single, “Derelict Palace”, taken from the album, 'I Live Too Fast To Die Young', out now via Silver Lining Music.

“'Derelict Palace' is about watching someone that you care about disappear into drug addiction," guitarist Rich Jones explains. Musically, the track takes on a melodic, somber tone. “I had been listening to a lot of post-punk when I wrote it - Echo & The Bunnymen, Psychedelic Furs, The Church - and I wanted to see if we could push the band in that kind of musical direction” adds Jones.

The single is aptly accompanied with an eerie, yet mesmerizing, video showing the band performing in a desolate, gothic, manor house, including scenes of Monroe flicking a switchblade knife gifted to him recently in Milan by none other than Alice Cooper himself.

Michael Monroe adds, “the song was written about people who get a little too into drugs and before you know it, they kind of disappear from all of the people and things that they used to love. Of course, that’s sad, but that said, there’s something cool about being an outcast and not fitting in… This is one of my favorite songs off the 'I Live Too Fast To Die Young' album and it adds a nice new dimension to my band’s sound and style. Plus, we found the perfect place to film the video for it!”

At a time when it seems increasingly hard to remain positive, 'I Live Too Fast To Die Young' encompasses eleven lean, mean, raw slices of rock ‘n’ roll joy.  Even when the key goes minor, Monroe’s music always seems to retain at the very least a hopeful edge, something he ascribes to a specific Finnish quality.

Finnish people are experts in melancholia,Monroe affirms, “and a lot of that melancholia - certain chords and sounds, even though they’re minor keys - is not necessarily sad. It’s just kind of a melancholic feeling that feels good in the end.

Michael Monroe and gang will be joining Black Star Riders on their 2023 UK tour along with Motörhead’s Phil Campbell and the Bastard Sons. The tour will kick-off on February 13 at Nottingham’s Rock City and conclude at London’s 02 Shepherds Bush Empire on February 26.

HOST Release GOST Remix Of Debut Single "Tomorrow's Sky"

Emerging dark wave project HOST, launched by Nick Holmes and Greg Mackintosh of PARADISE LOST, have revealed a remix of their debut single 'Tomorrow's Sky' by US synthwave producer GOST. The release follows the recent announcement of their debut album IX, out on 24th February, and signing to Nuclear Blast Records.

The remix is an amped up version of the duo's track that surges with a brooding, yet irresistibly danceable energy.

GOST comments "After listening to the original track I knew the vocals and overall vibe would fit well with the Gost sound. The vocals sat effortlessly into my mix and the guitar solo’s are super smooth. Stoked to work with Host on this and I cannot wait to share the remix with my fans."

About HOST

The origins of HOST do not trace back to the 1999 PARADISE LOST album bearing the same name but instead to the West Yorkshire music clubs of the mid-to-late 1980s. WhileHolmes and Mackintosh were already certified heavy metal fanatics (“metal thrashing mad” as Holmes equates), they were equally drawn to the New Wave and Goth music scenes. The pounding rhythms, sublime melodies and undercurrent of darkness drew them in, creating immediate earworms and a desire to delve further.

Mackintosh finally put plans into motion during the pandemic for a venture that would merge his penchant for sound design with the moods and atmosphere of 1980s dance-pop and Goth. The project was originally a solo pursuit until he asked Holmes, his longtime PARADISE LOST songwriting partner, to join. 'HOST' was selected as the name as a tip of the hat to the aforementioned album that found PARADISE LOST in an unprecedented period of experimentation that eschewed their metal roots and also challenged their fanbase in ways like never before.

“We always stood by 'Host' as an album,” says Mackintosh. “This project is not totally connected to that album, but some of the ideas are extrapolated. We’re taking the basic premise and trying it out now. And, really, it was something fun and interesting for us to do. We’ve been doing PARADISE LOST for a long time and got an itch to try something different from where PL is now. I could take PL down this route again. Who knows? It may happen if we live long enough, but I thought, ‘Why not now?’ I had the time to do it.”

JOHN ENTWISTLE’S “BOGEY MAN,” FEATURING KEITH MOON ON DRUMS, GETS NEW LYRIC VIDEO

RARITIES OXHUMED--VOLUME ONE, WITH PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED AND REMASTERED STUDIO TRACKS, DEMOS, AND LIVE RECORDINGS IS OUT NOW.

PHILADELPHIA, PA–October 31, 2022--John ‍Entwistle is best known as the legendary bassist ‍for the Who. Nicknamed the Ox and Thunderfingers, Entwistle's music career spanned over four decades. Entwistle was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Who in 1990. Renowned for his musical prowess, Bass Player magazine named the bassist at number seven. Entwistle was voted as the greatest bassist ‍of all time in a 2011 Rolling Stone magazine readers' poll and in its special "100 Greatest Bass Players" issue in 2017.

Rarities Oxhumed--Volume One dropped on October 21. It is the first in a series of posthumous releases coming from John Entwistle as part of a new partnership with Deko Entertainment and longtime friend and collaborator Steve Luongo. There are 13 tracks in total. Included are the demos for the Who’s “Where Ya Going Now” and “Life Goes On”; the unreleased studio track “I Wouldn’t Sleep With You”; and live tracks “Trick of the Light” and “Under a Raging Moon,” recorded during the John Entwistle Band’s final tour in 2001. All are packaged in a 6-panel digipak with artwork conceived by Chris Entwistle--John’s son--and Steve Luongo. There is also a limited edition expanded booklet with never-before-seen photos and a track-by-track description giving details of each of the 13 tracks included in this release.

Listen to album here: https://smarturl.it/RaritiesOxhumed

“Bogey Man” was originally recorded in the 70’s with Keith Moon of the Who on drums. As explained in the expanded booklet, the resurrection of this song was kismet. Entwistle began his quest with just a demo cassette of a rhythm track with Entwistle’s vocal and horns. When Steve Luongo identified Keith Moon on drums, Entwistle futilely made an exhaustive search for the multi-track tape, so he could add the missing tracks and complete the song. As he was giving up, “…a bloody loud bang from behind scarred me half to death.” It was the “Bogey Man” multi-track tape. Entwistle described the event as “spooky!”

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX Premieres Haunting New Music Video, "Bonefire"

The veil is thin and progressive rock collective CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIXhave a treat for you today! The band is now sharing the haunting new music video for the song "Bonefire," which is taken from the band's brand new album, 'Banefyre,' out now! The video, which was directed by Guilherme Henriques, can be found below.

The band comments, "We gift to you a musical curse on the miserable ruling class politicians! Again, working with Guilherme was a total pleasure and a complete win. He got the vibe and the intensity spot on. Plus, he raised the bar a whole lot with production value, so what we have is basically a little cult horror film, telling the story of Bonefire. The ruling class getting some just karma in the flames."

'Banefyre' is out NOW and can be streamed, ordered, and downloaded HERE.

The thread that binds CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s bold and towering discography — a dozen studio albums, a half-dozen mini-albums, a handful of compilations and swaths of bootlegs — could not be more apropos circa 2022. Since its 2004 creation by multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Justin Greaves, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX has served as the voice for the voiceless, whether it be animals, the unequal and the different. Greaves and longstanding vocalist and lyricist Belinda Kordic have often proffered that these beings cannot fend for themselves. Henceforth, CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s mission has been to shed light on the human condition and the inequalities that befall humankind and its creatures. Their battle marches on with their latest studio album, Banefyre.

Banefyre follows 2020’s Ellengæst — an effort that found CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX employ a series of notable guest vocalists alongside Kordic, prompting Metal Hammer to describe it as their “most cohesive and emotionally devastating record.” Kordic is now paired with Swedish vocalist Joel Segerstedt, who made his CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX debut last year via the “Painful Reminder/Dead is Dead” single. Piano, synth and trumpet player Helen Stanley and additional guitarist Andy Taylor complete the lineup. Greaves says Stanley and Taylor “fit so well creatively,” which has made CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX feel like a band when making plans and decisions.

Also central to this is Segerstedt. According to Kordic, the vocalist and lyricist lives a mere five minutes from her in Sweden and has quickly integrated himself into the band. “What I like about Joel is that he’s a good person,” she says. “There’s no fakeness with him; he has cajones. He’s not a bitch-talker, either. I can’t handle people who don’t have a backbone, but Joel is real and can speak his mind.”

“I like how Joel has come in and spoke for himself,” adds Greaves. “He’s in the band for the right reasons. I see him the same way as Belinda — she took an interest in the whole artistic thing behind CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX, like the vocals, lyrics, artwork and aesthetic. It’s the same with Joel. He has taken an interest in all of those things. In the past, we had people who didn’t contribute artistically and only cared about what they got out of the band. But Joel is really proactive and takes the initiative.”

Greaves assembled 13 songs (including “No Regrets,” a bonus track for his new project with Kordic, Johnny the Boy) imbued with the depth and introspection that will reinforce CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s standing as a band that defies genre. The album was tracked at Chapel Studios in South Thoresby, Lincolnshire, with vocals cut at Monolith Studio and Kapsylen Studio in Stockholm, Sweden. Kurt Ballou handled mixing in GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts — a pivotal move in determining the album’s overall sound.

“I love the album so much because it was a different approach with the production,” says Greaves. “For my part, it was a little bit of a reaction. I didn’t want to do the same warm, safe CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX album. I’m aware that when we did [2012’s] I, Vigilante, everyone wanted I, Vigilante again. As it so often happens with this band, people complain about the next one, then grow into it. Ellengæst is like I, Vigilante. It’s a shorter album. It hit the mark and was done really well, but everyone will expect another Ellengæst. I feared that, but I care enough not to make another Ellengæst. It’s the right thing to do. That’s why we got Kurt to mix it — we wanted that analog, raw power. Even though the album has mellow moments, those are edgy as well. We just didn’t want to do the same album twice. We’re never going to be a band that people can rely on.”

Greaves’ summation of his band notwithstanding, his distinctive guitar playing and enduring knack for immersive songwriting is the propellent behind the haunting, chant-laden “Ghostland,” pensive “The Reckoning” and forlorn “Everything is Beautiful but Us,” the band’s spot-on analysis of the retreat of humankind indoors during the pandemic that revealed nature’s priceless beauty. The album is also stocked with no less than four ten-minute-plus cuts (“Rose of Jericho,” “Down the Rabbit Hole,” “I’m Okay, Just Not Alright” and “The Scene is a False Prophet”) that are intermixed with drama and melancholy.

It all ties into Banefyre’s central theme of the persecution of people who are deemed “different” by society. The album title is a play on the song “Bonefire” that Kordic named and wrote lyrics for. In classic CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX fashion, Greaves turned it into the Olde English translation to represent the bonfires that engulfed witches and politicians through the 15th and 18th centuries, hence, the name Banefyre.

The album begins with “Incantation for the Different,” which was written and orated by Chicago-based witch, artist, author and occultist Shane Bugbee, who, according to Greaves, “brought us some positive, dark energy.” Banefyre then delves into the Salem Witch Trials (“Wyches and Basterdz”), fox hunting in Great Britain (“The Reckoning”), politicians of an unscrupulous and dishonest kind (“Bonefire”) and the New York City Blackout of 1977 (“Blackout77”).

Greaves says Banefyre’s topics may have a decidedly negative and pessimistic tone, but a glimmer of hope and joy remains. “There’s always the random bits, but overall, Banefyre is about the people who have suffered because they are different. The album covers inequality and oppression, like ‘Incantation for the Different,’ which is about overcoming when you’re put down because you’re not like everyone else.”

In true CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX fashion, the Lucy Marshall-created Banefyre cover leaves plenty to the imagination, depicting four animals seated at a table — interacting and dressed like human beings. “It’s sort of like Planet of the Apes showing what animals could do to humans,” says Greaves. “The cover was specially commissioned and is unique to the album. It’s incorporating all the classic CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX elements with the love for animals and twisting the narrative around.”

CRIPPLED BLACK PHOENIX’s reputation was built on the back of their studio albums and live shows. The pandemic prevented the band from supporting Ellengæst, but it did provide them additional time to bring in new members to their live configuration.

“We’ve done one show since 2019,” says Greaves. “We are going to do something in Europe this year. Hopefully, we can get back on track. We’re also going to do something in the States — that’s not just talk, we’re actually going to do it. It’s well overdue. The live band is fucking amazing. We have the five of us and now we have Jordi [Farré] on drums, Paco [Fleischfresser] on synth and a really good friend of mine, Matt Crawford on bass.

“We did the Leipzig show and even though the rehearsals were better than the show itself, that lineup, our live band, is so good. Because we haven’t been under pressure to put a live band together since 2019 and spent so long talking to people, we’ve got a better band from those results. Out of disaster, we’ve got quite a good, positive thing.”

THE ABBEY Signs to Season of Mist, Unveils First Single + Music Video

Season of Mist is proud to announce the signing of THE ABBEY, the emerging progressive doom metal band ft. Natalie Koskinen (SHAPE OF DESPAIR), Jesse Heikkinen (HENGET, ITERUM NATA, etc), Vesa Ranta (SENTENCED, THE MAN-EATING TREE), and Janne Markus (THE MAN-EATING TREE)! In conjunction with the announcement, the band is now revealing their bewitching first single, "A Thousand Dead Witches," along with a chilling music video that will certainly get you in the spirit of Samhain! The clip, which was directed by Ranta, can be seen been

THE ABBEY comments on the signing, " We feel honored and privileged to get to write a new chapter in the history of Season of Mist - a distinguished label that has the courage and vision to do something extraordinary. We do believe that the collaboration between Season of Mist and The Abbey is going to lead us to great things."

Regarding the single, the band adds, "Our first single has all the basic The Abbey elements: big vocals, dissonant harmonies, hauntingly beautiful melodies and tempo changes. This is The Abbey’s ode against oppression and tyranny."

"A Thousand Dead Witches" is taken from THE ABBEY's upcoming debut album, 'Word of Sin,' which will be released next year via Season of Mist! The cover artwork can be found below while more information will be revealed soon!

In the meantime, pre-save the album across all streaming services HERE.

Aleister Crowley’s Abbey of Thelema was located in Sicily, Italy, and functioned as ground zero for many of the occultist’s most complex and groundbreaking hedonistic pursuits. Here, Crowley codified his ritual practices and took his concept of “Magick” to new, unforeseen levels. He rebranded the temple as “Collegium ad Spiritum Sanctum,” translating to “A college towards the Holy Spirit.” But the Abbey of Thelema was not without its controversy: A young disciple died in 1922 after contracting typhoid fever from the drinking water. And a year later, Crowley was evicted by Italian dictator Benito Mussolini’s regime, yet the mystery and intrigue behind the Abbey of Thelema remain.

It was only appropriate, then, that Jesse Heikkinen, a veteran of the Finnish music scene and a solo artist under the Iterum Nata banner, branded his newest musical pursuit as The Abbey. Drawing lyrical inspiration from esoteric organizations, their beliefs and his own practices, Heikkinen and co-lead vocalist Natalie Koskinen (Shape of Despair) weaved ritualistic tales from the darkest corners of themselves to pair with music that is a provocative, alluring kaleidoscope of dark, heavy rock. The result is the mystical Word of Sin, The Abbey’s nine-song debut long-player.

The Abbey tale began when Heikkinen generated the sudden urge to try his hand at singing in a doom metal band after laying down guest vocals for fellow countrymen Fuzzifer. His idea was to form a doom metal band with “big vocals” — a project for fun’s sake that would thrive off writing from the heart and improvisation. Those plans involved former Sentenced and The Man-Eating Tree drummer Vesa Ranta — the first name that came to Heikkinen’s mind for the project.

Ranta, now a professional photographer and filmmaker, provided the steady backbone behind Sentenced’s groundbreaking career that was brought to its conclusion in 2005. According to Heikkinen, Ranta plays “like a battalion of marching giants,” a not-so-subtle nod to the drummer’s mastery of the quarter-note. Ranta quickly took to Heikkinen’s early demos and suggested they add a female singer. Enter Koskinen. Koskinen knew Ranta from a video shoot where she was serving as a makeup artist. Reluctant to try a new band considering her Shape of Despair and career obligations, Koskinen listened to Heikkinen’s first demo and decided to give the project a go. Janne Markus (guitar, also of The Man-Eating Tree) and Henri Arvola (bass) were soon tapped to complete the band’s lineup.

Word of Sin was recorded between April and November 2021 in several locations across Finland. Drums, bass and Markus’s guitars were tracked at Kratio Studio in Oulu by Kyösti Rautio. Rautio also served as co-producer and mixed the album, becoming the unofficial sixth member of The Abbey. Heikkinen, who recorded most of his vocals and guitars in his stepdaughter’s room, surrounded by My Little Ponies, Disney figurines and a pile of esoteric literature, is careful to point out that The Abbey fails to drop into any neat, little subgenre.

“The album was made purely for self-expressive reasons,” he says. “My music is the channel where I can be as true and authentic as possible. It is also a somewhat safe way to explore and express the dark side of myself and the collective consciousness. Word of Sin may seem like a tremendously dark piece as a rock album, but it’s pretty lightweight for a doom metal album! The material proved so strong that it was obvious that it wasn’t going to be another side project. I think using the means of improvisation made the music sound more like its creator instead of it being forced to be this or that — and that seemed to work really well for us!”

Regardless of where Word of Sin falls between the vast channels of doom and heavy rock, the vocal interplay between Heikkinen and Koskinen is undeniable. Each has songs where they take the lead, but their harmonies and trade-offs carry songs like “Rat King” and “Desert Temple” to the fore, creating a restless, captivating atmosphere resembling vintage rock from the 1970s. And, for his first go at singing lead in a band, Heikkinen proves to be quite the capable vocalist, carrying a smooth, almost airy delivery on “Crystallion” and “Widow’s Will.”

“I didn’t think of it that much — my vocals all came naturally,” he says. “I still think I’m more of a guitarist than a vocalist, really. During the writing and recording, I listened to King Crimson’s Red quite a lot, so I’m sure I got some influences from John Wetton’s singing on that album. The vocal harmonies were heavily inspired by bands like E.L.O, Queen and Yes.”

Heikkinen and Koskinen didn’t know each other before the formation of The Abbey. Heikkinen met Koskinen for the first time when she tracked vocals at his home studio, but their partnership generated immediate results. “Nowadays, I usually record my vocals at home, but in this case, as I had yet to meet Jesse in person, I wanted to record my parts at his place,” says Koskinen. “It’s very important to see what kind of energy is between the musicians I’m going to work with in the long run. It turns out that we are a perfect match musically. Later on, I traveled to Oulu to meet the rest of the guys [Janne and Henri] and I must say that we had a very strong bond from the beginning. Sometimes things just happen even when you don’t plan them.”

“The right lines for each were found really easily,” adds Heikkinen. “There already were dozens of vocal tracks in some of my demos, but every time Natalie found her place in the song, she added something new into it.”

The creative process behind Word of Sin proved so fruitful that the members of The Abbey are already thinking about a follow-up. It’s a testament to the material’s inherent strength and the immediate bond between all five musicians.

“The Abbey will most definitely be an active and serious project for me - I do hope it will turn out fun as well,” wraps Heikkinen. And closes Koskinen: “I do have a feeling this band will make a long trip together.”

Glasgow's Starry Skies present solidarity-based 'Light In Your Soul' single from their 'Small Wonders' LP

"Among the finest of the current crop” ~ Clash Magazine

"Infectiousness, addiction, groove and melody and has some real depth... straight-forward and brilliant" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

“One of the finest singers Scotland has ever produced…singular song writing talent”~ Stevie Jackson (B&S)

Scotland's Starry Skies present the single 'Light In Your Soul', a firm favourite among fans of one of Glasgow's most beloved folk-rock band and a positive, heartfelt and gorgeous reminder to remember the light and strength inside themselves regardless of the challenges they face.

Lifted from their fourth studio album ‘Small Wonders’, it starts with acapella vocals and finger clicks, and soon transforms into a full-on production with hammond organ, jangly guitars and beautiful vocal harmonies.

Shaped by personal encounters with music icons Nina Simone, Iggy Pop and Chuck Berry, Warren McIntyre (aka Warren Starry Sky) founded the band in 2014 to encourage the proliferation of positive, hopeful music. Today, he is joined by Jenny Lunan, Heather Phillips, Sophie Pragnell, Johnny Rooney and Adam Scott, having supported Snow Patrol, Belle and Sebastian, The Vaselines and Teenage Fanclub over the years.

Dubbed a "masterpiece" and their strongest work yet, 'Small Wonders' is a hearty crowdfunded 10-track collection with a brilliant blend of indie rock and folk pop. These shimmering delights celebrate the small wonders that are all around us. These songs were written in 2021, when we were all really grateful for small things like being able to go for a walk with a friend.

"‘Light in Your Soul’ started off as a tribute to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern. She has been getting a lot of criticism in the press and this got me thinking about female leaders.I wanted to write a message of support to Jacinda to let her know that, even in far away Scotland, there are people who admire her and the kind inclusive approach she takes to leading her country. Her public show of empathy for the Muslim survivors of the Christchurch shooting was admirable and showed the strength of connection," says Warren McIntyre.

"The verse lines “Hey there sister…..I don’t believe in these leaders – but I’d follow you to the end” and the chorus reminder that no matter how dark it gets it is important to remember the light were little messages in this song as a personal thank you to Jacinda"

Packed full of inspired and catchy songs with thoughtful lyrics, 'Small Wonders' was recorded and produced at Maybank Studios by Matt Harvey, perhaps best known for his work with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and Scottish Opera, and mastered at Abbey Road Studios by legendary mastering engineer Frank Arkwright (The Smiths, New Order, Coldplay, Oasis, Primal Scream, Blur, Bryan Ferry).

As of October 7, 'Light In Your Soul' is available across digital platforms, including Spotify. The full 'Small Wonders' album can be ordered on Bandcamp or on CD and sky-blue vinyl via Last Night From Glasgow.

Elliot Cole, Fiona Gillespie & Makaris present 'Tam Lin', a modern take on a 17th century ballad from the Scottish Borders

"A unique beautifully-orchestrated and impeccably-performed project, unearthing a long-lost Caledonian treasure and breathing beautiful new life into it... the Celtic and Baroque underpinnings of this performance are also shaped by more dramatic elements that recall the work of Andrew Lloyd Weber and also the unforgettable songwriting pair of Riccardo Cocciante / Luc Plamondon (best known for the musical Notre-Dame de Paris)" ~ Music-News.com

The harmonious trio of Elliot Cole, Fiona Gillespie and the Makaris ensemble present a fascinating audio-visual trip for the senses in 'Tam Lin', a Celtic-Baroque folktale rock opera, set on All Hallow's Eve. Produced by Kevin Eikenburg and Four Ten Media, this period video was filmed at St. Mary's on Grand in NYC.

This 17th-century ballad and fairy tale from the Scottish Borders is newly told in original music by Cole and Gillespie. A modern adaptation of this historic story of transformation and love, it has come to life through this folk-rock cantata - a half-hour long musical drama, weaving traditional Celtic, ancient and modern musical styles and instruments.

'Tam Lin' tells the story of Jenny, a girl with an unplanned pregnancy who defies social expectations to turn a bad situation good, pursue an unconventional love, and then perform a daring rescue of her beloved from the hidden world.

Elliot Cole is a composer, singer and "charismatic contemporary bard" (NY Times). He scored the film 'Evolver' (executive director Terrence Malick), he has written for and performed with Grammy winners Roomful of Teeth, Grammy nominees A Far Cry and Metropolis Ensemble, among others. His percussion music, which has been performed by 250+ groups around the world, evokes "sparkling icicles of sound" (Rolling Stone). Currently on faculty at the The New School and Juilliard, he is also Program Director of Musicambia at Sing Sing, where he runs a music school for incarcerated men.

Fiona Gillespie is a classically-trained soprano, folk singer, instrumentalist, songwriter and arranger. Born to a family of Celtic musicians, she sings with professional chamber and choral ensembles around the nation, while touring with her folk band The Chivalrous Crickets. She also collaborates with colleagues in the folk, early music, and contemporary music worlds. Commercial releases with Makaris include 'Wisps in the Dell' (2019), 'Tam Lin' (2021), 'The Galant David Rizzio' (2022), for which she was noted for her, “responsive lead vocals… warmth of tone… musicality, [and] comic defiance” (Early Music America).

Formed in 2018 and named for a royal court troubadour of medieval Scotland, Makaris explores Scotland's broad musical heritage and culture. Their debut album 'Wisps in the Dell' (2019) was met with critical acclaim. A study of continental classical composers’ takes on traditional Scots tunes, it also featured the premiere recording of several arrangements by Beethoven, alongside those of Schubert, Weber and Haydn. Their 2022 sophomore album explores a bizarre 18th-century musicological myth, whereby many popular Scottish melodies were implausibly attributed to the 16th-century Rizzio (secretary and consort to Mary, Queen of Scots, who was brutally murdered while in her service).

"Growing up in the Celtic music tradition, one of my favorite stories was the Ballad of Tam Lin. Like countless singers and storytellers before me, I'm pulled in by the weave of elements in this story. As a child, I loved the evil fairies, animalistic transformations, and a heroine in a plaid. As an adult, I’m also drawn to the rich symbolism, cultural history, the issues around societal standards and pressures that still resonate… and a heroine in a plaid! The more I understood everything contained in its 43 verses, the more complex it became to interpret easily. It challenges me, as I think it has - and as the best fairy tales do - all of us who have been sharing it for centuries," says Fiona Gillespie.

"I asked my dear friend Elliot to join me (and guide me!) in setting this ballad as a cantata-style dramatic piece. We composed it together, weaving our tunes, chords and concepts into one, and then brought it to our friends, the great medieval, baroque and folk musicians of Makaris, to bring it to life."

'Tam Lin' is out now digitally across online platforms such as Apple Music and Spotify. The band has also released a beautifully illustrated lyrics video for 'Tam Lin'.

Says the band, "The song, tinged with nostalgia, speaks of the memory of our young years and its cohort of new experiences. The demon is never far away to tempt us to come back to it."

Soon they turned into pioneers of their field, forging groundbreaking albums such as Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (1997), Spiritual Black Dimensions (1999), or Death Cult Armageddon (2003), invading the entire world with headline tours and eventually turning into the most influential act of their genre after nine full-length studio releases. Christofer comments
"One day I was thinking about epic doom metal and wondering if it is harder to write a ”hit song” in that genre, or if it’s harder in regular metal. I’m a huge fan of Candlemass, and in my opinion, I haven't heard any other band match their hit songs in the genre. So, I decided to try to find out for myself how hard it is. Of course, I had to involve Thomas in the writing process, being an ex-CANDLEMASS singer. The result was 'Codex Gigas”', a CANDLEMASS -inspired THERION doom song. If it’s a hit or not will be up to the fans to judge.”

With defiant determination rarely found in a metal band, THERION have always and exclusively done what they deemed right. They never stuck to a successful formula for the sake of it, they never released the same album twice, and they never gave in to fickle friends like expectation, commercial aspects or trends. Which makes it all the more astounding that now, 35 years deep into their storied career, they are doing something every fan had hoped for but never actually thought possible. Enter Leviathan, enter a trilogy focusing on all the trademark elements that THERION are beloved by countless metal fans around the globe for. After the first part set hearts aflame in 2021, evoking goosebumps and reminiscing around the glory days of the nineties, the symphonic metal grand-seigneurs continue their surprisingly fan-friendly path with their epic odyssey Leviathan II.

“We wanted to give fans what they want this time,” musical professor Christofer Johnssoninforms us from his sunny new home in Gozo, Malta.

“We have been doing what we wanted for so long that we just thought it fair to turn the tables just this once.” Turning 50, you might misinterpret a move like this with a certain mellowing of age. You couldn’t be more wrong, of course: Johnsson is still the musical frontiersman, looking for new challenges and a hero’s journey under every stone he turns. However, after having finished the insanely sophisticated, elaborate triple album rock musical Beloved Antichrist, even Christofer Johnsson felt he had reached a certain frontier here. “After Beloved Antichrist, I was lacking direction because I had done everything I ever wanted to do or achieve.” He sat down with lead vocalist Thomas Vikström to ponder their next move when it quickly dawned on them: “The only thing we never did was give the fans exactly what they wanted,” he grins drily.

About THERION:
Since their early days – THERION originally formed as a death metal band back in the late 80’s – mastermind Christofer Johnsson has come a long way, defining and developing a perfect combination of orchestral, symphonic, gothic and incredibly catchy metal that is second to none.
