GAEREA Unveils Official Music Video for "Laude"

Cathartic black metal entity GAEREA is now sharing the brand new music video for the song "Laude," which is taken from the band's brand new opus, 'Mirage!' The video, which documents the band's performance at VOA Heavy Rock Festival 2022 in the band's home country Portugal, can be seen below.

The band comments, "Today we shine light upon 'LAUDE,' the last single of the 'Mirage' record. An ode to this core’s unity and a whisper in the High Lands for what is about to unfold in the Vortex Society. A song about Sacrifice, Despair and Agony. A song about us: GAEREA. And as we once wrote: '(…) if the shores were not ravaged by human greed and ignorance, Resilience would draw a wall of adventures ingrained in our cells.'”

In addition, GAEREA will be embarking on an extensive European tour in support of label-mates Gaahls WYRD along with SAOR and WINTERFYLLETH starting this Friday, September 30 in The Netherlands! The full run of dates can be found below!

'Mirage' can be streamed, downloaded, or ordered HERE.

"...an album that’s simultaneously tender and beastly in both sound and substance, and one that expands and redefines black metal’s capabilities while retaining all the requisite barbarity." - Decibel Magazine (Sept 2022 issue, lead review) (8/10)

"...an emotional rollercoaster of a record that's going to sometimes make you feel sorrow, sometimes elation and lots of reflected longing." -
Metal Injection(8/10)

"If 2020’s Limbo was the sound of a band putting any doubts about their abilities – or their authenticity – firmly to rest, then Mirage is the sound of a band with nothing left to prove to anyone… except to themselves." -
No Clean Singing

Style: Cathartic Black Metal

Behind black shrouds of obscurity and desolation, the men of GAEREA deliver their odes in cascading maelstroms of aggression and beauty. Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the Portuguese horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and two albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers are sure to grow.

Underground metal itself is a strange and cyclical beast. Trends come and trends go. But at no point in the genre’s history have we borne witness to what happened to the world in 2020. GAEREA met this challenge by releasing their second album, the aptly titled Limbo, to excellent world reception. In the meantime, they found the total suspension of interactive life as it was previously known to be the perfect breeding ground for further creation and making. As the troupe’s main songwriter elaborates, “I lost two precious years of my life, years that I would rather have spent touring and growing as an artist. But they were crucial for us, these years, because not too many bands stayed relevant and productive. The pandemic gave us the time to make the best release we could. All the promo-shoots, interviews, videos, we all had time to prepare for everything. Mirage was the product of a sudden inspiration. The basic parts were written over about two weeks.”

Such a stunning admission goes to show that art is fickle, and the artist is merely a vessel through which the sweet sorcery we call music may flow. It can mute itself to frustrating silence – or it can explode into being regardless of all consideration. For this band on the rise, it is most certainly the latter. Sizzling with ambition from day one, GAEREA may present one unique face to their audience, masked and enshrouded, but the truth is they have not remained changeless. “We are not the same band who recorded Limbo,” he insists. “We are more eager to take on the world. If the pandemic taught us anything it is that nothing is certain.”

This lack of certainty plays heavily into newest creation Mirage. As its name suggests, the inability to trust what our senses are telling us could be construed as one of the album’s central themes. Rather than constrict their art to mythological references or anti-religious tropes, GAEREA instead plumb the depths of the human experiences of isolation and suffering. “The concept, the subject, of each song is everyone, you, me . . . if people were alone together in Limbo, in Mirage they are truly alone. Nobody is truly real until they are alone.”

If existential dread could be turned into sound, GAEREA have carved their own philosophical path through its stygian tunnels. It isn’t Satan, demons, death, or even suicide that is waiting for us there. “What if people finally reached their goal,” he posits, “to end their suffering, and instead of dying they find themselves in a new reality, lost in a big city they were once a part of – they don’t know if anyone else is still alive. They are alone inside their own world.” This theme of being alone in a world full of familiar scenes, unable to end things and unable to reach anyone else, might well terrify the listener more effectively than any glimpse into the imagined hellscapes of our nightmares. Being isolated in your own world is the real nightmare, and GAEREA strum the chords of this horror with nuance and a miserable grace.

Boasting a superior production that threads the needle between clarity and causticness, GAEREA unwaveringly admit their loyalty to countryman and producer Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings. “Miguel is fantastic,” enthuses the band’s primary composer. “He comes from a brutal death metal background. I thought if this guy can pull off a punchy, modern, but still authentic production with a slam / death metal band, I wonder what he can do with a band like GAEREA. He has a vision for a sound, and that is what I really like. He is not a black metal fan, but it’s this very external set of ears and eyes from a guy who really knows his craft, and he brings all of that to our sound.” The fruits of this union are quite evident, as the turbulent moods of the title track are so wonderfully tossed between tension-building moments, and the explosive payoffs which set GAEREA apart from so many who try but come up short.

Tormented leads and building riffs sit atop some seriously explosive drumming, waxing and waning, on “Arson,” a tempest of moods and one of the album’s centerpieces. Emotion, at times sounding triumphant in brilliantly wrought guitar leads, is skewered by vocals that bustle with shattering despair. The dichotomy is magnificent to behold. GAEREA’s composer makes no mistake. “I want to hear the throat on the album, and if we are a vocals-driven band, I don’t want to over-process them during the recording. Striking that balance is one of the beauties for me in this record.”

In a world that increasingly elevates the shallow and the narcissistic, GAEREA pursues an artistic struggle of inward isolation, honest self-examination, and a dogged refusal to bow to the void that awaits. Thus, the persistence of their shadowed visages, draped in the masks which codify their anonymity while also creating a reliable extreme metal brand that fans can appreciate, especially in the live setting. “GAEREA are truly ourselves when we put these masks on, and we transcend into something different, and primitive,” he asserts. “It still makes total sense, and this band would not be a band anymore if we ever dropped the masks.”

As GAEREA prepares the release of Mirage, the world has resumed functioning, and as it lurches onward into its bleak future, one could stipulate that the pressure may be on to continue its rise amid the clamor of this renewal of activity. Does this challenge intimidate GAEREA? “We want to do better, but I don’t feel any pressure because we are in very good hands with the people we work with. We are building a strong team that really cares for us, stage-wise, promotional-wise, website and sales-wise. We are building a very structured confident teams that aims for the same goals we do. What I truly care about is continuing our ever-growing concept of the band GAEREA, and not becoming sterile, and I would not want people to be unaffected by our music. In the end we’re trying to express something within ourselves, and I don’t want it to be too complicated.”

The beauty of GAEREA lies in the directness and simplicity found within their florid tapestry of extremity and aggression. Whether it is in the less-polished aural dynamite of their self-titled EP, or in the lustrous textures of Mirage, GAEREA is building a mighty edifice of underground metal. With talons dipped in the inky blood of black metal and scraped across the flesh of human suffering, GAEREA is leading a charge into the future of darkness, and all those who find beauty and power in the dark side of existence would do well to take heed.

DYMBUR Release Official Music Video for Socially Progressive New Single, "Back Home"!

Shillong, India based, Khasi Thraat Folk Metal band DYMBUR has unveiled the visually impactful official music video for their newest, intensely poignant new single, "Back Home." Addressing the international challenges of child prostitution, discrimination protections, LGBTQ+ rights and basic human rights, DYMBUR delivers their humanitarian message with stunning lyrics and incredible musicianship!

“We wrote 'Back Home' in 2021 and it was supposed to be the first single that we wanted to release under our new genre change. The script is written by Cornelius & Andreas and a few other add ons were taken from the other band members. Since we came up with the idea of fusing khasi traditional instruments with metal music, we also wanted to write songs based on heavy subject matter, hence the idea of the storyline came about. We did approach a few production houses from Shillong, India and shared the script with them, but they all rejected to work with us because of the sensitive subject matter. Hence we kept the song on hold and released our other singles 'Rape Culture' & 'Child Abuse'.

Right after these releases, we then decided that it was high time that we need to release Back Home. Since no one wanted to shoot the video for us cause of its sensitive content, we then decided to produce and direct the video by ourselves, under Legato Studio Productions owned by our Guitarist & founder of Dymbur, Cornelius Kharsyntiew.

The song depicts a child being sold off to a brothel because his homophobic father cannot accept him. This boy grows into a young man as he serves his entire adolescent life as a sex worker in that brothel. A day comes when he gathers all his courage and escapes the brothel to embark on a journey to get Back Home. Along the way he gets a flashback and recalls all the atrocities he had faced. Fueled by these painful memories he pushes ahead in search of his home. He eventually finds his home but his parents don't recognize him as he is wearing a hijab and when he takes it off for the first time to reveal his face, immediately his mother recognizes him as she rushes forward to embrace him but his father stops her. The story ends with the father and son locked in on an emotional stare down. In the last shot the hammer drops to the ground signifying 'Acceptance; from the band's POV. But that shot can also be defined as an open ended shot where the audience can decide if they want to accept or reject the boy if they were in the father's position. " - DYMBUR

Watch the music video for "Immaculate Deception"

Vocalist Vicky Psarakis says:

""Immaculate Deception" is a song about societal pressure and feelings of remorse over time.

The main point I want to highlight is the concept of time and the fear that comes with it. We all reach a point where we start noticing that we're aging. In current society, there's a big push to try and preserve our physical state. There's a huge movement of cosmetic procedures and products that promise us "eternal youth". People like to think that they can keep reliving their 20s, instead of embracing the natural course of life and the challenges and rewards that come with it.

To bring this vision to life, we focused on our main character coming face to face with different versions of herself: her naturally aged older self chasing her with an imaginary "mob" (representing society) and her unrecognizable cosmetically altered self staring at her through the mirror. She ultimately realizes she cannot run anymore.

Remorse is a powerful feeling and influencing factor for a lot of our decisions, but the fact is you can never go back in time and change the things you've done. All you can do is learn and push yourself to be better over time.

To thank all our fans who directly donated money for this video to be made, we added their names to the credits. We could not have done this without you!"

Manchester psychnauts The Speed Of Sound release double A-side single 'Virtual Reality 123 / Charlotte 12" version'

"Buzzing fuzz guitar lines emerge from a delicate acoustic introduction to intersect with the crashing chords and the ‘bulbous pulsing’ rhythm section" ~ Record Collector Magazine

"Raw and edgy sound with guiding and invigorating sense of melody" ~ The Spill Magazine

“Unmistakeable sound a winning formula” ~ The Big Takeover

“A triumph of industry, imagination and talent, coolly novel and damned addictive” ~ Louder Than War

‘Unique and other worldly” ~ Vive Le Rock

“A form of Art-Pop that is wry, incisive, yet a deeply listenable examination of post industrial culture” ~ Rock At Night

"A riotous maelstrom of musical mayhem” ~ The Manc Review

Manchester indie rock outfit The Speed Of Sound presents the double A-side single 'Virtual Reality 123 / Charlotte 12" Version', reimagining two of the tunes from their acclaimed 2021 album 'Museum Of Tomorrow', marking one year since its release via Big Stir Records. Just like a classic 12” single, each track clocks in at over 6 minutes - double the running time of the album originals.

Hailing from Manchester, The Speed of Sound is made up of father and son John Armstrong (guitars and vocals) and Henry Armstrong (keyboards), Ann-Marie Crowley (vocals and guitar), Kevin Roache (bass guitar) and John Broadhurst(drums).

Formed in 1989 with a pre-history dating back to the day Andy Warhol died in 1987, The Speed of Sound lies deep below the ‘music industry radar’, allowing for the evolution of their own distinctive sound and live act. Their music is optimistic, but with lyrical bite, a punk-inspired DIY ethos and lust for experimentation rooted in psychedelia.

Throughout their 33-year history, The Speed Of Sound have always been idiosyncratic, counter-intuitive and perpetually looking for something new. These two fresh extended pieces take advantage of space that is not afforded when limited by the physical time constraints of vinyl. The result is effectively two new pieces that are epic in different and unexpected ways. Is this Progressive Pop? There is only one way to find out.

'Virtual Reality 123' is a dramatically beautiful, yet desolate soundscape, unfurling within the startlingly atmospheric pairing of grand piano and guitar feedback blended with the human voice. Joyous and steely resolute in its determination to create and inhabit a personal parallel universe, it constructs a separate realm for the purpose of keeping the work/life spheres completely separate. A possibility powered by enabling and running an ‘alternative-life’ programme alongside the daily grind, it steps from one to the other, closing the door between them. Replacing the drudgeries of the physical analogue personal life with a digital perfection, the virtual world becomes a refuge from actual existence and the place when life exists in a state of perpetual euphoria.

Frontman John Armstrong says, “This is the full version of 'Virtual Reality' - as originally conceived - parts 1, 2 and 3. It was simply too long to fit on the album in its entirety, so here it is in its unedited glory. We couldn’t get the piano into the recording studio, so we recorded that remotely and added it in.”

'Charlotte 12” Version' takes the already existing sense of anxious menace within the album version of this song, adding a ghostly and delicately layered ephemeral depth of neo-gothic proportions. Enhancing the dread within the runaway choruses, this performance leaves no need for flickering candles; true terror is within the mind.

“The song is based on actual events from the 1850’s; the first time we played Charlotte live was in Elizabeth Gaskell’s house within the actual room where Charlotte Bronte hid behind a curtain to avoid meeting an unexpected visitor while she was staying in her fellow novelist’s home," explains John Armstrong.

"That gig was just two weeks before Charlotte’s 200th birthday. It was easy to imagine her still there and hiding from us too. Anxiety is the natural state of the modern world, but it has been around much longer. The part of Charlotte in the introduction is performed by Janet Armstrong.”

As of September 16, 'Virtual Reality 123 / Charlotte (12" Version)' will be released through Big Stir Records and will be available via Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. While this "virtual release" is digital-only, the 'Museum of Tomorrow' album is still available on vinyl and CD from Big Stir Records and record stores worldwide.

NYC-based Dubliner RONAN CONROY releases lush cover of LANA DEL REY's 'Dark Paradise'

NYC-based Dubliner RONAN CONROY presents 'Dark Paradise', a dark tribute to Lana Del Rey, from forthcoming album.

"Simply sublime, a perfect blend of punch and panache, deftness and delicacy, shimmering darkness, and kaleidoscopic light" ~ Big Takeover Magazine

"Spellbinding... ddream pop at its finest. invoking the transcendental sonic ecstasy of folk romance with windswept shoegaze euphoria, enveloping the senses in a cocoon of gossamer sound" ~ Post-Punk.com

"Dreamy, brooding and ethereal with a DIY punk ethos... sonically haunting and otherworldly with dark fairy-land shimmer" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

Brooklyn-based artist Ronan Conroy presents his new single 'Dark Paradise', a clever goth-rock rendition of the Lana Del Rey classic. This is the second taster of his album 'The Slow Death of the LoveMyth', complemented by a fascinating video created by NYC artist Hypnodoll and featuring a sword swallowing performance by La Reine The Thrill.

This album reveals Conroy's post-punk alter-ego, soaked in dark pop and dream wave richness, and drawing on ethereal and goth rock classics. While select tracks on this album are crowned with ethereal female vocals, Conroy also sings on this and two other tracks on this album.

"Lana’s music, and the way it shows her evolution and her personal journey, has been continually inspiring. I heard 'Born To Die' years after it came out and it was an album I listened to incessantly, often choosing it as a record I’d fall asleep to last thing at night," says Ronan Conroy.

"Singing Lana songs is pretty challenging, but I wanted to try this one. I wanted to find a way to reinterpret the song in a way that fit this record, and the explosive distorted guitars and intensity of Mike Shinoda’s version of the Depeche Mode classic 'Enjoy the Silence' showed me the way. Charlie Nieland’s masterful command of synth, and his echoed Rickenbacker 8-string bass elevate the track to epic heights, all propelled by drumming by Justin Wierbonski (a.k.a. Demonic Sweaters)".

Earlier, Conroy released 'Double Helix', a lush and dark reverie-filled track withentrancing vocals by Julie Dicterow (Oh Halo). This record also features vocals by Shannon Brown and Susan Hwang (Lusterlit).

Growing up in a musical family in Dublin, Conroy was exposed to an array of musical influences, ranging from new wave and post-punk to David Bowie, Johnny Cash, Elvis and Abba. His world changed at 15 when his mother loaned him her nylon string guitar and taught him a few chords, instantaneously unlocking a whole new world of songwriting. Years later, he would release two albums with Brooklyn's The Listeners and go on to perform with gothic dreampop band Oh Halo on guitar and backing vocals from 2011 to 2014, during which time he released one album with them.

Since 2013, Conroy has immersed himself in the 'Lovemyth' project, this work culminating in 'The Slow Death Of The LoveMyth' LP, a collection influenced by the 80s/90s goth bands he grew up listening to, as well as ethereal darkwave bands he would be introduced to later.

As with all the music Conroy has released since 2013, this record was produced, engineered and mastered by Charlie Nieland at Capture Sound Studios. Frontman of Her Vanished Grace and Lusterlit, and a recognized solo artist in his own right, Nieland is a well-respected engineer and producer, known for his work with Debbie Harry, Rufus Wainwright, Blondie and Scissors Sisters.

As of September 27, 'Dark Paradise' will be available digitally via Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp, where the full album (out on October 21) can also be pre-ordered.

OBSIDIOUS Premieres New Song + Music Video, "Lake of Afterlife"

Modern progressive metal outfit OBSIDIOUS is now premiering the official music video for their new song, "Lake of Afterlife," which is taken from their upcoming debut album, 'Iconic!' The video, which gives an intimate behind-the-scenes glimpse of the making of 'Iconic,' can be found below.

OBSIDIOUS comments, "This song narrates, in first person, the experience of a person whose time has come, but who is being stopped by external factors. And this person just wants to go in peace, that he has accepted his fate and does not want to suffer. It is a situation we have often seen of denial on the part of relatives of a person who is being kept alive, prolonging the inevitable.”

'Iconic' is due on October 28 via Season of Mist! The album can be pre-ordered on physical formats HERE while you can pre-save the album to all streaming services HERE.

Modern metallers Obsidious launch their wonderfully intricate and musically-accomplished new album, Iconic, via Season of Mist. The group—featuring Linus Klausenitzer (bass), Rafael Trujillo (guitars), Sebastian Lanser (drums), and vocalist Javi Perera (vocals)—come from distinguished and lettered origins in Obscura, Alkaloid, Eternity’s End, and Juggernaut. Obsidious, however, are a different creature entirely. Iconic is technical but not officious. The album breathes intensity but expands upon it with mellifluent dexterity. With Obsidious, there’s always a hook. The early release of and positive feedback from video singles “Under Black Skies,” “Sense of Lust,” and the title track illustrates these qualities well. Iconic builds upon a prestigious foundation, but its vision isn’t restricted to its tenets.

“We consider ourselves the modern evolution of progressive and technical metal,” bassist Linus Klausenitzer says. “To name a few bands: Dream Theater, Devin Townsend, Meshuggah, Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, Protest the Hero, Periphery, and Haken. As such, our music asks for many different moods and vibes. Javi’s vocals reinforce that idea, adding meaning and drama to it. While we still work as session musicians, Obsidious is now our main priority.”

Obsidious crystallized after Klausenitzer, Trujillo, and Lanser departed amicably from fellow German tech-metallers Obscura in 2020. Named after black volcanic glass, the group’s moniker exudes something dark, of fiery origin, in a state of final transformation. Metaphorically, the name Obsidious offers a nearly limitless platform for expression and advancement. However, it was only when the trio brought on newcomer Perera—whose growls and full-toned voice are first-rate—were the multi-national outfit officially codified. Interestingly enough, the newly-joined frontman couldn’t even meet his bandmates while the band wrote, recorded, and filmed videos for Iconic due to the pandemic. Yet, the technologically-apt foursome made it work.

Iconic is an album of manifold extremes. “Sense of Lust,” “I Am,” and “Devotion,” for example, pivot on heavy rhythmic axes, their intense grooves seamlessly unifying with ample doses of atmospheric dissonance. “Under Black Skies,” “Delusion,” and the title track, on the other hand, are nimbly expeditious, with Perera’s considerable vocal talents complementing Trujillo, Klausenitzer, and Lanser’s angularly-involved, smartly-experimental songcraft. As for “Iron Dust,” “Lake of Afterlife,” and the massive chorus in the ferocious “Bound by Fire,” they offer a more straightforward (yet ebullient) musical and aesthetic posture. Throughout Iconic, Obsidious impress with their artistic inventiveness and creative expanse.

“Seventy-five percent of the band members were part of Obscura, so we knew what most of our fans like and what they don’t,” says Klausenitzer. “When we decided to integrate clean vocals, we knew that the reactions would be controversial. But we like to push the boundaries. We don’t like to stand still musically—we want to add something fresh to metal. This is why this band is so special for some listeners already.”

Lyrically, Perera tackles human-relatable topics throughout Iconic. While his modern metal peers abstractly traverse the vagaries of the universe, the singer hits home where and when it matters. Disaster in any form is trauma-inducing, and this is at the heart of Under Black Skies, where a tremendous yet preventable calamity descends on a petty yet desperate populace. BDSM, an uncommon topic in metaldom, carries through “Sense of Lust.” Here, sex and the power of and subsequent joy by the submissive are explored. The title track, “Iconic,” discusses dementia. Perera’s profession outside of Obsidious is in healthcare, and he’s seen firsthand how the mental disorder traps and torments. Iconic is a showcase in multiplicity.

“This album does not have a concept per se in terms of lyrics or an underlying storyline,” vocalist Javi Perera says. “The songs on this album touch on subjects of diverse nature, and there are even some songs that narrate personal experiences. But what I can consider as a common denominator in the album is the absence of constraints on a compositional or stylistic level, allowing us the freedom to shift between different musical genres as long as the song requires it. I always consider that we, as artists and musicians, are at the service of the music and not the other way around.”

Extensive pre-production aided in Obsidious handling a pandemic-era recording process for Iconic. For the official sessions, the group spread out parts to several different studios. Firstly, Lanser kicked Iconic into gear by recording drums at Lanser Studios in Salzburg, Austria. The rest of Obsidious holed up in Woodshed Studios in Fürth, Germany, where producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Obscura) tracked guitars, bass, vocals, synths, and sound effects. Vocal overdubs and additional soundscaping were taken to TheRedHouse Studio in Cambridge, England. Obsidious then handed the finalized pieces back to V. Santura to mix and master. Even though Iconic was a non-linear undertaking, it sounds absolutely monumental.

“The pre-production was very professional,” says Klausenitzer. “So, we already had an idea of what we wanted the songs to sound like—we had a specific sonic goal in mind. We had already worked with V. Santura before, so we knew what to expect in that regard. The recording sessions were, if anything, straightforward. When V. Santura completed the final master, we knew we had created something unique and special—the Obsidious sound!”

Obisidious are ready to deploy their unique brand of hooky neoteric metal on Iconic. From Trujillo’s wickedly clever riffs and Lanser’s artful drumming to Klausenitzer’s superb counterpoint and Perera’s soaring vocals/venomous spits, songs like “Under Black Skies,” “Iconic,” “Bound by Fire,” and “Nowhere” brim with cool calculation and aggressive spontaneity. They storm normality not only musically and lyrically. The monolithic cover piece by French graphic artist Adrien Bousson (Rotting Christ, Khonsu) also transcends convention. Obsidious are poised for a breakthrough on Iconic. Prepare for metal’s modern metamorphosis!

SCREAM TAKER, FEATURING VINNY APPICE (BLACK SABBATH, DIO), RELEASES ITS DEBUT ALBUM, KILL THE BEAUTIFUL

September 22, 2022--Scream Taker is the brand-new outfit fronted by Buffalo Music Hall of Fame vocalist Jim Crean (Appice Brothers), alongside French guitarist Steph Honde (Paul Di’Anno, Hollywood Monster), and legendary drummer Vinny Appice (Dio, Black Sabbath, Appice Brothers). The three musicians have created a classic hard rock album in the vein of Dio, which is no surprise as Vinny Appice is one of the founding members of the original Dio band.

Scream Taker recorded the album during the pandemic and post Jim Crean’s short lived tenure with former KISS guitarist Vinnie Vincent. Crean was to perform with Vincent in his comeback performance alongside Carmine Appice (Ozzy Osbourne, Vanilla Fudge, Appice Brothers) and Tony Franklin (the Firm, Blue Murder), which unfortunately never materialized. Scream Taker is quickly getting noticed for its powerful combination of heavy riffs and soaring melodies, with offers already coming in for the band to take the show on the road in 2024.

Scream Taker’s first single and video, “Stone Cold,” is out now. In Crean’s own words, “[It] is about the King of the Vampires searching for his queen. Once the king has chosen his bride, he must bite her and she becomes his queen, to forever serve the master and oversee the undead. The husband of the queen relentlessly tries to rescue her to no avail. The hero falls, brought down by the undead, and is left to roam for eternity!”

View video below.

Kill the Beautiful unleashes twelve original songs including standout tracks “The Curse of the Werewolf,” “Shattered Mirror,” and the title track, “Kill the Beautiful.” Guitarist Steph Honde comments, “Scream Taker goes back to the roots of hard rock: real drums, real amps and no fxxxxxx auto tune. PLAY IT LOUD!" Vinny Appice continues, “This record is a journey through the dark, loud, and heavy. It kicks ass!”

There are limited edition bundles (while supplies last) for Kill the Beautiful, which can be ordered via: https://bit.ly/3zUYDJY

SPACE OF VARIATIONS Release New Single “1M followers (feat. Denis Stoff)” + Visualizer!

New Album, 'IMAGO', Released Today

Get it HERE

EU/UK Tour to Support Within Destruction Starts Soon!

After Ukrainian metalcore unit SPACE OF VARIATIONS had to delay the release of their new album due to the ongoing war in their homeland, the day has finally come for 'IMAGO' to meet the world, unleashed today via Napalm Records!

Fasten your seatbelts and prepare for full speed when diving into the thrilling, high energy soundscapes of the outfit's second offering.

SPACE OF VARIATIONS adds:

"After a worldwide pandemic, an unjust war, two album release delays, and a lot of hoping, worrying, praying, and thinking that this album may never come out - 'IMAGO' is finally out! This one is for our people back in Ukraine, for our friends, family, and fans. This one is for us! Hope you can enjoy the music as much as we do …"

SPACE OF VARIATIONS invaded the underground metalcore scene leaving a lasting impression that makes fans instantly hungry for more. Their unique, powerful songwriting skills exceed all expectations, fearlessly merging different genres while captivating with their futuristic style. The unpredictable and emotive atmosphere of the album reflects SPACE OF VARIATIONS’ attitude: always on a roll at maximum speed, unapologetically crashing the scene.

Their newest single, 1M followers (feat. Denis Stoff) comes with a vicious visualizer and delivers the final jab of the album release. In the tradition of acts like Bring Me The Horizon and Architects, the song delivers mesmerizing, punching riffs and pounding drums. In preparation of their EU/UK tour supporting Within Destruction kicking off soon, followed by an extensive North American tour with JINJER and P.O.D., SPACE OF VARIATIONS will reveal their full spectrum of pure metal energy that cannot be missed.

Listen to “1M followers (feat. Denis Stoff)”

SPACE OF VARIATIONS on 'IMAGO':

"The main symbolism of the album is hidden in its title - 'IMAGO'. In entomology, imago is the last stage an insect attains during its metamorphosis. In psychology, it's one of the fundamental concepts, an unconscious mental image a person has of himself, other objects of reality and his blood ties through the prism of his perception. As an insect breaks through the shell of a chrysalis to free itself from the protective cocoon surrounding it, you, too, through inner transformation can really become the new being, which, in fact, you were always meant to be. Imago = new stage, Imago = maturation.

Only in retrospect can one see the imago, which was previously hidden in the shadows. The future is being prepared in the bosom of the past and the present.

Imago is the most complete convergence with yourself that can only happen.

With this album, SPACE OF VARIATIONS are definitely moving to a new round of self-development as a creative organism."

UPON WINGS Releases New EP 'Last Love'

UPON WINGS Releases 'Last Love' EP - Out Now!

Feat. Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Pepe Clark Magaña (Kyng), Max Georgiev (Falling in Reverse), Skidd Mills (Saving Abel)

Today (September 23rd) Michigan's UPON WINGS release their 'Last Love' EP on Bandcamp via Sword of the Spirit Records. The release marks the first time the band's music has ever been available on the Bandcamp platform.

Find the EP on Bandcamp HERE

The EP's title track, "Last Love," is a soaring, guitar-heavy anthem. Skidd Mills, known for his work with bands such as Saving Abel and Pop Evil, mixed and mastered the title track. Pepe Clarke Magaña of California metal titans Kyng performed drums, while longtime Upon Wings collaborator Kevin Jardine of Canada's Uplift Productions produced the track and performed guitars. Find the song on Spotify HERE and Apple Music HERE.

Watch the music video for "Last Love" below:

The rest of the "Last Love EP" brings together songs UPON WINGS released over the past year and a half, as well as a 10th anniversary edition of the group's debut single, "The Dream (I'm Only Happy When I'm Sleeping)."

Regarding the 10th anniversary of "The Dream," which fell on August 10th, lead vocalist Anne Autumn Erickson states, "It's incredible to think this project started 10 years ago this August. I released 'The Dream' on my birthday, not knowing if anybody would listen, and the song found its way to so many great listeners and new friends around the world. I'm truly thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of 'The Dream' - and, really, of Upon Wings - with the new EP."

Another highlight of the EP is "Eternal Way," featuring guest vocals from Ralf Scheepers of Primal Fear and Gamma Ray and a fiery guitar solo from Max Georgiev of Falling in Reverse. Grammy Award-winning producer Glenn Brown mastered "Eternal Way" and "The Dream." Finally, the pop-tinged "Scars" rounds out the set, offering a different vibe for Upon Wings. Jardine played guitars and produced the EP, and drummer Peter Tzaferis also contributed.

UPON WINGS takes listeners down a path of heartfelt introspection, pain, joy and faith. Soli deo Gloria!

ENEMY EYES ANNOUNCE DEBUT ALBUM "HISTORY'S HAND" OUT NOVEMBER 18, 2022

Johnny Gioeli, a career vocalist whose credits include Hardline, Axel Rudi Pell, and Crush 40, has announced the formation of a new band, Enemy Eyes.

Enemy Eyes is the fulfillment of a vision of Johnny's to create a new band that combines his fondness for classic hard rock with European metal.

Of note, this will be Gioeli's 100th official release as a recording artist after decades of multi-platinum, gold, and critically acclaimed albums. A true landmark recording in his discography and also the beginning of a new chapter.

"Enemy Eyes is the final product of a vision I've had for many years of combining old school rock with a European metal feel. At the end of the day, I can sing many styles of music, but my heart and soul is metal. It is known to my fans as I wring the sweat out of my shirt each night on stage. I want to feel what I sing. I grew up with the music of DIO, Rainbow, [Black] Sabbath, [Iron] Maiden, and more. I needed to fulfill what I feel is a missing piece in my musical puzzle, so Enemy Eyes has been born. It’s not just a project, it’s my music life’s work moving forward," says Gioeli.

The band's debut album, 'History's Hand' will be released on November 18, 2022, via Frontiers Music Srl.

Today, Enemy Eyes release the new single and video, "Peace and the Glory".

Pre-order/save 'History's Hand' on CD/LP/Digital HERE

Listen to the previously released track, "Here We Are" HERE

Check out the Lyric Video for "Peace and the Glory"

Johnny Gioeli first came to prominence with Hardline, a melodic hard rock band that he formed with his brother Joey and which famously featured Journey guitarist Neal Schonon the band's debut album, 'Double Eclipse'.

Johnny has continued to front Hardline since the release of their debut album in 1992, including their most recent release, 2021's 'Heart, Mind and Soul'. In addition to Hardline, Johnny has been fronting both German guitarist Axel Rudi Pell's solo band and Japanese-American band Crush 40 since 1998. He also released his first solo album, 'One Voice' in 2018.

Needless to say, Johnny brings Enemy Eyes to life with a wealth of experience and a clear-eyed vision of where he is going with the band.

"This is completely different from Hardline, ARP, and Crush 40. Completely different. It is a definitive new music entrée on the menu of my career and one I've been hungering for," says Gioeli. "The influences are many. From the metal music I grew up with to more modern bands like Breaking Benjamin, Volbeat, Architects, and on and on. This combined with my love for melodic and Euro metal, to me, helps Enemy Eyes become a fresh world of metal," he adds.

As he has done with his other acts, Gioeli plans to bring Enemy Eyes to the stage to bring the message and power of the music directly to fans. A seasoned musician who is now in his fourth decade of touring the globe, he doesn't know any other way.

Asked about the meaning of the album's title track, Gioeli explains, "'History’s Hand' is a very special song. The chorus' finishing line “born a child, feared as a man” sums up my vision of awareness, innocence to evil, and how we become what our history dictates. Sort of the “history repeats itself” thought process. Recognizing that all things come full circle in time, and we should be reminded of this regularly…sometimes with a good fucking slap. Feel the hit of History’s hand. We are the architects of our history. Don’t fuck it up. It felt right to make this the album title."

Stay tuned for announcements about tour dates and more info on Enemy Eyes by following the band's social media as well as Gioeli's.

Line Up:

Johnny Gioeli - Vocals

Marcos Rodriguez - Guitar

Alessandro Del Vecchio - Bass, keyboards

Fabio Alessandrini - Drums

Ian Munsick Releases New Track "Horses & Weed," Available Now

Any country fan knows that there ain’t nothing wrong with old trucks or cold beer…” but for a Rocky Mountain boy like Ian Munsick, it’s all about the palominos and green. New track “Horses & Weed” from his forthcoming sophomore album is available today. The fiddle-laden tune, which the Wyoming native produced alongside Jared Conrad and wrote with Josh Thompson, extolls the simple freedoms of life out West.

“Old trucks and cold beer have been staples in country music for almost as long as country music has been around,” Munsick said. “But in my humble opinion, these staples have begun to rust. West of the Mississippi, we have other tools to help get the job done. Horses and weed, if used correctly, can take you to places that machines and fermentation can’t manufacture. I hope this strain of lyrics and melody takes you to greener pastures, far beyond the reaches of trucks and beer.”

“Horses & Weed” is the third new track from Munsick’s next full-length project, due in 2023. His duet “Long Live Cowgirls” with labelmate Cody Johnson topped SiriusXM The Highway’s Hot 30 Countdown and has earned more than 50 million streams. Whiskey Riff praised its “gorgeous, wide-open fiddle… [that] will make you feel like you’re riding a horse through the plains of Texas or… the Rocky Mountains of Colorado” (LISTEN HERE). Faith-driven story song “More Than Me” (LISTEN HERE), meanwhile, intertwines his “signature Rocky Mountain sound” with “romantic lyrics” that make “the heartfelt ballad a perfect wedding hymn” (CMT).

Munsick, who hit the road earlier this year alongside Johnson and Morgan Wallen, will continue to spread the gospel of western country on his own headlining Westwood tour this fall. Joining him on the run, which includes major cities such as Charlotte, Chicago, Denver and Tampa, is fellow Wyoming native Ryan Charles. Visit HEREfor ticketing and more information.

ABOUT IAN MUNSICK
Breathing fresh Rocky Mountain air into the Nashville music scene, Ian Munsick is pioneering a new brand of country. The Wyoming-born singer / songwriter’s upbringing was a mix of working the ranch and working crowds. Under the tutelage of their fiddle-playing father, Munsick and his two older brothers grew up playing everything from bluegrass to The Beatles. Captivated by traditional lyrical truth and the modern soundscape, Munsick followed his ear to Music City. After establishing a robust touring career as an independent artist, he signed a major label record deal with Warner Music Nashville in 2020. Since then, he has accumulated nearly 250 million global streams as well as accolades from Spotify (“Hot Country Artist to Watch”), MusicRow magazine (“Next Big Thing”) and more. His debut album Coyote Cry features his mile-high tenor underscoring self-penned songs that conjure “equal parts epic adventure and down-to-earth wisdom” (American Songwriter). It marks the dawn of western pop-laced country, pulling a thread straight from Chris LeDoux through Post Malone. Imagery-soaked ode to the west “Long Haul” earned Munsick his second iHeartRadio Rocky Mountain Country Music Award for Song of the Year. The recent releases of “Long Live Cowgirls” (with Cody Johnson), “More Than Me” and “Horses & Weed” are ushering in the next chapter of his musical saga… and fans are finding that, with Ian Munsick, western country is reborn.

The day has come for extreme metal pioneers VENOM INC. to finally unleash their new album, There’s Only Black, in its devastating entirety! ABOUT VENOM INC.

As 2015 swept in it brought with it a solid revival of traditional Metal bands. A chance encounter and request brought and offer to Tony Dolan (Vocalist and Bassist) to reform the lineup of VENOM that had recorded the classic "Prime Evil" album and solid follow-up albums that kept the band very much alive during the onslaught of Grunge and Brit-pop that destroyed all but the most hardy in the early 1990's Metal had suffered at the hands of the new trend but VENOM (with this lineup) refused to alter or die and so continued the legacy that had begun when Jeff Dunn (aka Mantas - Guitar) formed the original band in 1979 and brought the world extreme Metal in the form of the "Welcome To Hell" and "Black Metal" albums.

The albums penned mostly by Dunn, exposed the world to a new way of music taken to the extremes, and with a pinch of darkness and the controversial odor they raised their heads from the grave as if they had always been lying in wait and brought chaos to a neatly formed music industry.

Topped off with the voice of Clive 'Jesus Christ' Archer and later by Cronos and The Demolition Man the band was and still is a force of nature. While others attempt to take credit for all things VENOM the truth is not a hidden mystery but rather written on tablets like the ten commandments but unlike religion, you do not need faith to follow VENOM or their ideas and music but simply ears to hear.

'Somewhere In Time, We Were Born ..' they sing and it has become their mantra. Today's scenes are full of examples taken from this classic band. Images and themes and even a whole genre taking its name from the seminal Black Metal album. The characters were and still are larger than life to fans but it is the music that carries the flame. The true inspiration for all is the dark heavy vibes tinged with a Black and Roll touch.

VENOM INC. began again in 2015 by accident almost and the name was not a choice but given by fans, agents, promoters, etc. On reflection, it is just a matter and fact that this band is true and real and carries the true spirit which began in 1979 and will end their days being that spirit that was lost somewhere over the years. Perhaps it is inevitable for a band to change or grow away from its original intent but every single Legionnaire from the VENOM's Legions knows..their own moment that made them a lifelong fan and so it is to this end that VENOM INC will continue to grow and perform the classics from the legacy with heart and soul and true meaning and will write with this same intent in mind so that new fans too may realize that a real band playing with all they have to give still exists and are still very important in this growing age of digital separation from reality.

VENOM INC. has been touring without pause since its first appearance at KEEP IT TRUE festival in Germany in 2015 and have taken its brand of energy and performance across the globe on many European tours, Asia, the US, all over South and Central America, Hellfest, Bloodstock, Alcatrazz, Wacken are among the countless festivals shows, a special invitation to tour with Glenn Danzig and a special appearance at the Original Misfits show at Chicago’s ‘All State Arena’, as well as Special invited guests by The Metal Allegiance in New York City amongst the list of other things, live is where the band truly live but now it is time for a new album and the writing has not stopped 2021 we shall see the new album and new shows taking the world into its arms once again and embracing it and it's dark heavy soul

He Is Legend Announce "Endless Hallway" & Share Double Single — WATCH + LISTEN

Like a true American classic at this point, He Is Legend resemble an old, dog-eared novel or nearly worn-out VHS tape that you dust off in order take a familiar ride and get thrilled at the same time.

Their alchemy of reckless rock ‘n’ roll grooves, heavy metal unpredictability, and downright indefinable magic continues to enchant, enthrall, and enrapture a devout fan base, quietly bordering on cult-like fascination.

Today, the band — Schuylar Croom [vocals], Adam Tanbouz [lead guitar], Matty Williams [bass], and Jesse Shelley [drums] — is pleased to announce its seventh album 'Endless Hallway'.

It arrives on November 11 via Spinefarm. Pre-order it HERE

With the album release right around the corner, the band also delivers the one-two punch of a double single with "The Prowler" and "Lifeless Lemonade". Both emerge with fangs bared, sweat on the brow, and blood on the chin.

Listen HERE

"This album is a testament to our band's endurance," the band says. "It is easily our most aggressive album to date, born and bred from the odd shift in the world that affected everyone. We have always used our music as an outlet, and no better time than when the world felt so much like an 'Endless Hallway'."

ABOUT HE IS LEGEND:

He Is Legend's catalog spans 'I Am Hollywood', 'Suck Out the Poison', 'It Hates You', 'Heavy Fruit', and 'Few'. However, it would be 2019’s 'White Bat' that elevated them to another level altogether.

Revolver highlighted it as "rollicking," while Metal Injection awarded it a rating of "9/10" and christened them "legends, indeed". Riff Magazine hailed them as "one of metal's best-kept secrets", and Heavy Blog Is Heavy applauded 'White Bat' as "easily the band's best album in a decade, but it even takes a run at being the strongest collection of their career.

Plus, it generated nearly 10 million-plus total streams.

For 'Endless Hallway', the band wrote in their rehearsal space in Wilmington, NC. They recorded drums outside of Knoxville before cutting guitars with Al Jacob at Warrior Sound in Chapel Hill, NC.

Vocals would be a different story as Croom endured one of the most trying seasons of his life. "We had to push the vocal recording, because my stomach was failing due to my diabetes," he shares. "It was so bad I couldn't perform. It took a while to get back to some semblance of normal. Eventually, I hopped in the car and drove 10 hours to Nashville to record at Mitch Marlow's place. I'm a different person now. The universe throws those things at you to make you stronger. That's personal growth."

Dayseeker Share "Dreamstate" Visualizer

Southern California's Dayseeker recently announced their new album 'Dark Sun'.

The album arrives November 4 via Spinefarm. Pre-order it HERE

The band has just shared the visualizer for the new single "Dreamstate".

Watch & Listen Below.

"'Dreamstate' is about my experiences in dreaming of my father, who passed last July and truly feeling like we were communicating while it was happening," front man Rory Rodriguez shares about the intensely person track. "It was a beautiful thing to experience on one hand... but also very heartbreaking and disorienting with my sense of reality on the other."

The album, as a whole, is incredibly contemplative, with Rodriguez having said, "'Dark Sun' is a collection of songs that deeply explored my personal life over the last two years. Most of it is written about my father's passing, about how it felt like the sun burned out the day he passed, and how the world is a little darker without him in it."

After a successful summer headliner run, Dayseeker will be back on the road this fall supporting Bad Omens. All dates are below.

Dayseeker are a quiet killer. The band has steadily built a buzz over the past several years — and they have reached a tipping point. Dayseeker built themselves into a scene standout with 2019's 'Sleeptalk', which was hailed by Alternative Press as "a warm and welcome release to higher ground" and as "much needed fresh air into the post-hardcore scene." The album has gone on to accumulate over 150 million streams, and it positioned the band as a formidable force — and one that is primed to take its next big leap.

In 2021, the band dropped a deluxe version of 'Sleeptalk', featuring four reimagined versions of album tracks, which offered fans a fresh and unique take on songs they already love. It also demonstrated the depth and breadth of the band's creative vision, scope, and possibilities.

However, 'Dark Sun' will be Dayseeker's moment and is set to catapult the band beyond the scene's stratosphere.

Montreal's The Ember Glows ripe with post-punk romanticism on 'Where Spirits Play' EP

“The Ember Glows is a time-shifting device powered by the spiraling lead lines reminiscent of the early Cult sound, woven of the same ornate intricacies as Echo and The Bunnymen, as anthemic as The Mission at their most bombastic best" ~ The Big Takeover

"Reminds me of early U2 or Simple Minds which is Tre cool" ~ Skin (Skunk Anansie)

"At the intersection between post-punk intensity, the romanticism of new wave and trippiness of psychedelic rock... their sound is more akin to late 20th century northern England" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Moodily brooding to dynamically vibrant songs that are drenched in ruminative baritone vocals, darkly shining guitars, low-register bass lines, and pushing drum beats" ~ The Record Stache

"Boasting a classic guitar-driven New Wave psych sound, the simple hooks, a pulsating rhythm section, textural guitar interplay, and baritone vocals bring to mind Echo & The Bunnymen, The Teardrop Explodes, U2, The Mission, and The Associates" ~ Post-Punk.com

Montreal-based indie rock / post-punk quartet The Ember Glows has released their new EP 'Where Spirits Play', a 4-track offering recorded at Closet Studios in Montreal with elements of Simple Minds, The Cult, Echo and the Bunnymen, early U2, Nick Cave and The Mission at the fore.

Formed in 2019 by members of Montreal-based indie artists Room Control, REPO, Scene Noir and Citylake, The Ember Glows is Richard Bunze(guitar), Kevin Hills (bass), Martin Saint (vocals and guitar) and Dan Stefik(drums).

Leading up to this EP, The Ember Glows previewed the singles 'Silent Love' and 'The Mirror'. About the latter, frontman Martin Saint says this is "about how most nations carry skeletons in their closets - even the so-called peaceful ones. Sooner or later, we must face the weight of history and the past hits us hard collectively".

The Ember Glows trace their roots to guitar-driven new wave, psych rock and 90’s British indie music, having crafted a sound that boasts simple hooks, a pulsating rhythm section, textural guitar interplay and baritone vocals.

Friends since their teenage years, personal chemistry and musical synchronicity brought them together as The Ember Glows. With all four members also being part of other bands, what started as a side-project ultimately became everyone’s main music priority, fueled by their jointly-forged sound and corresponding adrenaline. Each member brings something different to the table - Rich with his knack for texture and big sound, Kevin’s rumbling groovy bass lines, Dan’s manic and melodic drumming, and Martin’s delicate lacing of baritone and jangly guitars.

The 'Where Spirits Play' EP is out now, available from Apple Music and other digital stores, as well as Bandcamp, where their 'Passerby' EP is also available on cassette and digitally.

A SHORELINE DREAM releases 'Loveblind' LP, a gazey-postpunk blurring of past and future

"Delicate curves and beauty... a glorious dawn" PopMatters

"Goth heaven... one of the leading lights of the neo-shoegaze movement" DKFM

"A sonorous journey – a inward looking, lush and wonderfully orchestrated sonic adventure with dark intensity" ~ Spill Magazine

"A wild and beautiful thing" The Big Takeover

"Shadowy and storming dreaminess.. reminiscent" Stereo Embers Magazine

Iconic shoegaze / postpunk outfit A Shoreline Dream have released their 'Loveblind' album via Latenight Weeknight Records. Their sixth full-length record, here theydives into recollections and past desires while looking forward in a wash of soundwaves pointing towards a blinding future.

Their first release since the Covid pandemic began, offering 40 minutes of goth-laced progressive soundscapes. The new collection was previewed by two solid tasters - lead track 'Alarms Stop Ringing' and the title track 'Loveblind'. Produced by Ryan Policky and recorded over 10 months in the Barnum suburb of Denver, Colorado, this album features immense synth layers, the band's signature guitar and symphonic vocals.

"This 'Loveblind' album is an introspective view of things building all the way up, then crashing back down - like relationships that try to rekindle, only to find that the original reason for the failure has grown even stronger. The songs and driving energy behind each represents rare moments of true passion and also those of complete devastation. Even in perceived time of feeling, things couldn’t get any better, a finality lies waiting behind the next corner," says Ryan Policky.

In 2020, A Shoreline Dream released their 'Melting' album (2020), the latest in a series of critically acclaimed releases. Formed in 2005, today ASD revolves around two original members - multi-instrumentalist / vocalist Ryan Policky and guitarist Erik Jeffries. Their legacy is further rounded out thanks to collaborations with legends such as Ulrich Schnauss, Mark Kramer and The Engineers (for whom they created a remix for progressive label gods K-Scope). Also of note is the fact that the band also opened for Chapterhouse for their very final appearance.

The pandemic has taken its toll on our mental well-being and the perception of money and power has blown previous years away. Dying to get back to the good times and moments of pure, unscathed lust, we long for new experiences to sweep us off our feet. 'Loveblind' reaches for that same energy, taking cues from previous A Shoreline Dream works, drawing from their progressive goth roots. Layers of moodiness, blissful explosions of rock and chugging tempo mix with the pain, love, hope and moments of near death experienced while creating the album itself.

As of September 23, the 'Loveblind' LP is available everywhere online, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp. The band will also soon release their seminal 'Recollections of Memory' LP (featuring Ulrich Schnauss) on vinyl - it can be pre-ordered now.
