THY CATAFALQUE Announces Premiere of Full Blu-Ray Performance

Avant-garde collective THY CATAFALQUE will be premiering the full performance from their upcoming live Blu-ray 'Mezolit - Live at Fekete Zaj!' The Blu-Ray contains the band's first ever live performance, which took place at the Fekete Zaj festival (Budapest) in August 2021 and will be released on November 25, 2022 via Season of Mist!

The live stream will take place on Thanksgiving day, November 24, 2022 @ 1:00 P.M. EST via the Season of Mist YouTube channel HERE. You can now watch the trailer and set a reminder!

Mastermind Tamás Kátai comments: "Last August a unique and magical event took place at Fekete Zaj Festival. 26 musicians performed 15 Thy Catafalque songs in front of a sold out festival and sparked the live carnation of the project that had been a mere studio entity for 23 years. The concert has been recorded and will be released in November. Re-live the night - this will never happen again in such form."

In addition to the upcoming Blu-ray, THY CATAFALQUE announced limited vinyl editions of the 'Rengeteg' (2011) and 'Meta' (2016) re-issues. Pre-orders for the Blu-ray and re-issues are now live HERE.

The very first live show of THY CATAFALQUE was recorded in August 2021, during the Fekete Zaj festival in Hungary. 26 Musicians performed 15 songs from Thy Catafalque’s discography which is now captured on this unique Blu-ray ‘Mezolit - Live at Fekete Zaj’!

THY CATAFALQUE’s humble genius Tamás Kátai abandons any and all prenotions of tradition. Intertwining elements from a vast swath of unrelated genres, from jazz to pop to folk, and everything in between, THY CATAFALQUE masterfully crafts an eclectic sound that breaks down any generic barriers or borders. Following the massive success of 2020’s critically-acclaimed ‘Naiv,’ the entity returns with ‘Vadak,’ another esoteric monument in its already storied catalog.

Meaning “Wildlings” in Hungarian, the album title is a deliberate clue to the exotic and feral essence of ‘Vadak.’ Like seedlings scattered throughout the forest by the mere forces of nature, THY CATAFALQUE’s imaginative sound grows with an organic sense of whimsy, cultivated within the vast influences of our megacosm. Thematically, ‘Vadak’ is a foreboding lesson in mortality. Emphasizing the fragility that is shared by man and beast alike, the record explores our Freudian life instincts, in which we inherently fear and run from the ultimate goal of existence: death.

Originally, THY CATAFALQUE emerged as a black metal band founded by singer/keyboard player Tamás Kátai with the aid of guitarist/bassist János Juhász. Following their joined debut 'Sublunary Tragedies' (1999), the Hungarians evolved into quite different directions, but steadily gaining more followers in the process through the following albums, 'Microcosmos' (2001) and the self-released 'Tűnő idő tárlat' (2004).

On their fourth full-length, 'Róka hasa Rádió' (2009), THY CATAFALQUEinvited Ágnes Tóth from neo-folk outfit THE MOON AND THE NIGHTSPIRIT and Attila Bakos to add their haunting vocals. With fifth album 'Rengeteg' (2011), Tamás Kátai finally went solo with the help of guest musicians that again included Ágnes Tóth an Attila Bakos. Dubbing his eclectic musical amalgamation avant-garde metal, the Hungarian explored new sonic possibilities with 'Sgùrr' (2015). The sixth full-length turned out to be slightly more complex than its successor, 'Meta' (2016), which returned to a more direct approach without losing the steadily growing sonic diversity. In 2018, THY CATAFALQUE continued this path with the release of ‘Geometria’. THY CATAFALQUE delivered another spectacular musical mosaic with their ninth full-length entitled ‘Naiv’, inspired by the “Naïve Art” movement.

At its core, latest release ‘Vadak’ (2021) expresses the familiar hallmarks that are unique to only THY CATAFALQUE, and yet, it is an unpredictable magnum opus, showcasing the latest evolution from Kátai and his esteemed co-conspirators. The album puts forth an elegance that cannot be matched or rivaled by any musical contemporary, taking fans on an adventure that is rife with excitement, drama, and unbridled craftsmanship.

CONEY HATCH CELEBRATE 40TH ANNIVERSARY OF DEBUT ALBUM WITH UPCOMING SHOW AT EL MOCAMBO

The El Mocambo in Toronto is undoubtedly one of the most instantly recognizable names when it comes to music venues. After all, such iconic artists as the Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, the Cars, and Stevie Ray Vaughan have all performed at the legendary hall over the years (and also issued recordings from their performances there). And on Thursday, December 29, 2022, Canadian hard rockers Coney Hatch will headline the venue – to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their gold-certified self-titled debut.

VIP tickets will include entry to the venue early to witness part of the soundcheck, plus a meet & greet with all four members and a photo with the band. The band will also autograph one item per person. Details TBA - limited to 50, so purchase quickly before they sell out! Tickets can be purchased via this link: https://www.ticketweb.ca/event/coney-hatch-40th-anniversary-under-the-neon-palms-at-tickets/12695535

The El Mocambo performance will be a homecoming of sorts for the band (lead vocalist/guitarist Carl Dixon, guitarist Sean Kelly, bass player/vocalist Andy Curran, and drummer Dave Ketchum), as they previously played the venue in 1983, and hail from Toronto. To mark this special occasion, the band will be performing the debut album in its entirety that evening (a recording that spawned such hard rock gems as “Monkey Bars,” “Devil’s Deck,” and “Hey Operator”). This is Hatch's only Canadian show before they start a UK tour in January 2023 (opening a string of dates for Steve Harris’ British Lion). The show will also include additional songs from their extensive catalog.

"The El Mocambo is a venue that has been near and dear to our hearts,” says Curran. “All of the Coney’s loved performing there and we all saw so many amazing bands and artists perform there, as well. It’s so rich in history and the logical place for us to perform our debut record for the 40th anniversary for our hometown Toronto fans.”

Also, arriving soon from the Hatch will be a live album, ‘Postcard from Germany.’ “We’re very excited and grateful that after all these years, we’re still getting along and releasing new songs. We’re a brotherhood and this new live record totally captures the spirit of Coney Hatch live. In your face double guitar attack! Also two spankin’ new songs to boot! That’s a pretty cool thing for our fans.”

But first, Toronto fans will get the unique opportunity to close 2022 by witnessing Coney Hatch perform a classic album…at a classic venue!

The players' resumes speak for themselves, but rest assured, if you are looking for hard hitting, hooky, in-your-face rock-n-roll, then Heroes And Monsters will be good for what ails you. The band approaches their style with their influences in tow, but also with an understanding and appreciation of the current rock scene. A best of both worlds' scenario, if you will.

Todd Kerns is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and producer. He is most noted for being the bass player and backup singer in Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators, and for being the frontman of gold-record-selling Canadian band The Age Of Electric. In more recent years, he has been making his mark as a singer-songwriter with sold out solo performances as well as fronting former KISS guitarist Bruce Kulick’s band and his own Canadian supergroup, Toque.

Guitarist Stef Burns has a fantastic and varied history in rock music. He has spent time playing with pop acts like Sheila E., Berlin, and Huey Lewis & The News as well as rock acts like Y&T, whom he recorded four albums with, and Alice Cooper, playing on the albums 'Hey Stoopid' and 'The Last Temptation'. Stef currently plays with Italian rock superstar Vasco Rossi and also has his own band, The Stef Burns League.

Drummer Will Hunt currently resides in the drum throne for Evanescence, whom he first started playing with in 2007, and has performed and written on their last three studio albums, including their most recent release, 'The Bitter Truth', which debuted at #1 on 27 different countries' album charts. Over the years, the in-demand skinsman has performed with Dark New Day, Skrape, Staind, Vasco Rossi, Vince Neil, Tommy Lee, Slaughter, and more. He has also appeared on albums by Black Label Society, Michael Sweet (Stryper), Crossfade, Dirty Shirley (George Lynch), Device (David Draiman of Disturbed), and more.

Kenny Taps Kelsea Ballerini for I GO BACK 2023

KENNY CHESNEY WELCOMES KELSEA BALLERINI
AS SPECIAL GUEST FOR HIS UPCOMING TOUR

Having Won Multiple CMA Awards for “Half of My Hometown,”
It’s A Full-On Taste of East Tennessee for the I Go Back 2023 Tour

Having won the 2021 Country Music Association Vocal Event and Video of the Year for “Half of My Hometown,” as well as being nominated for 2022 CMA Single of the Year, there was only one choice for Kenny Chesney’s I Go Back 2023 Tour: triple GRAMMY nominee Kelsea Ballerini, the songwriter/dreamer from Mascot, Tennessee.

“Kelsea understands everything about where I come from, because she’s from there, too,” Chesney says. “She knows how hard it is to leave, how much you miss all those things that make you who you are... but also how the only way to chase the kind of dream she has is to do just that. It’s a tough call when you love home the way we both do, but for kids like us, there was never really a choice.

“When she texted me to sing on the song she’d written with some of our friends, I said, ‘Let me hear it,’ knowing she knew everything about who I was,” Chesney continued. “As soon as I heard that first verse, I was in. And I have been one of Kelsea’s biggest fans ever since. She’s a writer, a girl who sings from her heart and isn’t afraid to honor where she comes from. To me, there was no other choice for this tour.”

Having played to over 1.3 million fans on 2022’s Here And Now Tour, including breaking his personal best at many of the 21 NFL stadium plays, Chesney knew he wanted to take his music to the people who live beyond the major markets. Always committed to bringing the best musical experience, his choice of Ballerini recognizes an artist who has a strong sense of roots, but it also invested in pushing where country music can go.

“Music has taken me so many incredible places,” Ballerini says. “Around the world, singing with some of my heroes in pop, alternative and contemporary music, but singing with Kenny is going home. He was the only voice I heard on ‘half of my hometown,’ and when he comes in, it’s just like hitting the Knoxville city limits. So to be able to go out to those cities like the place he and I grew up with an artist who’s accomplished what he has, it’s a lot like going home.”

Like Chesney, Ballerini has caused a sensation since taking her debut “Love Me Like You Mean It,” follow-up “Dibs” and “Peter Pan” all to No. 1 on the country charts, a trifecta that matches her with Wynonna’s solo emergence in the ‘90s; it helped earn the honeyed alto a Best New Artist GRAMMY nomination. Fresh-faced and fashion-forward, she’s drawn on her own young woman coming of age in today’s world for some of modern country’s most personal songs.

“half of my hometown,” written with Ross Copperman, Nicolle Galyon, Shane McAnally and Jimmy Robbins, reflects Ballerini’s journey, but also both artists’ way of seeing the world around them. It’s that passion for taking risks, but remembering where one comes from, the desire to have big dreams and never lose the ability to enjoy the simplest kinds of fun and friendship.

Miranda Lambert's Book of Recipes and Family Stories Available April 25; "Y'ALL EAT YET?

— ON SALE APRIL 25, 2023 —

Country music’s singular Miranda Lambert delivers a gorgeous cookbook sharing both the recipes she was raised on, as well as the power of the incredible multi-generational women who helped make Miranda who she is today.

Dey Street Books is thrilled to announce the first book from multiple GRAMMY-winning, reigning Academy of Country Music Entertainer of the Year and record-setting Country Music Association Female Vocalist Miranda Lambert: Y’ALL EAT YET? Welcome to The Pretty B*tchin’ Kitchen (on-sale: April 25, 2023; Hardcover; $32.50).

Growing up watching her father play guitar, it wasn’t long until she started writing songs and making her way through Texas’ vibrant music scene as a teenager. Chasing the dream, making her own CD and staying focused on the integrity of her music, it was only a matter of time until she garnered a major Nashville record deal. Known for the passion and swagger she brings to her music, Miranda’s albums and concerts create a place for women who live by their own rules to come together as a tribe. She’s won three GRAMMYs, 38 Academy of Country Music Awards (more than any other artist in the organization’s history) and 14 Country Music Association Awards, among countless other accolades and honors.

Recognized as having “talent and charisma on par with Dolly Parton” by The New Yorker, as well as being named to the TIME100 List of the World’s Most Influential People, NPR best captures the full force-of- nature musician by offering, “Over the course of her two-decade career, Lambert has established her own American iconography.”

That iconography and hard truth-telling is what sets Lambert apart. Fans of the East Texas artist know her heart and her life from listening to her albums, starting with Kerosene through the deeply personal double album The Weight of These Wings and 2022’s adventurous Palomino. With Y’ALL EAT YET? she takes readers deeper into her life off stage, on her farm and on the road, as well as sharing her beloved Airstream trailers, her signature fashion sense and decorating style. Lambert grew up surrounded by her mother and grandmother, and also by her mother’s tight-knit pack of girlfriends. With them, she learned the power of female friendship and the bonds that women share — and the way good food and drink is the perfect reason for any gathering of your girlfriends.

“Watching my mom and her friends, I saw the way pitching in, working together, loving music and being there for each other is the greatest gift you can have in life. I think my mom inherited that gift from her mom, because they both attracted the most awesome group of girlfriends,” says Lambert.

These colorful women knew how to have too much fun, come through in a jam, celebrate, cry when necessary and really, really cook. And it’s to these women that Miranda credits her own inviting, come- on-in personality. Each and every recipe in Y’ALL EAT YET? has been handed down from her mom, grandma and those cherished friends and include:

  • Nonny’s Banana Pudding

  • Paw Paw’s Bar-B-Que Sauce

  • The LOAF, a.k.a. “the meal that will get the ring”

  • Dutch Oven (Coffee Can) Campfire Cobbler

  • Stacked Enchilada Bake

  • Jalapeño Pimento Cheese

  • Roasted Root Vegetable Winter Salad

  • Whiskey Cupcakes

For everything from porch parties to road trips, the holidays and celebratory gatherings, Y’ALL EAT YET? is true to Miranda’s roots growing up in Texas. It showcases easy to prepare, hearty and delicious meals meant to be shared with those you love. Full of the moments most people never get to see in the life of one of country music’s most important female superstars—along with gorgeous fare and 50 recipes— Y’ALL EAT YET? was created to fill your belly and feed your soul.

Progressive music icon CYNIC is pleased to announce two very special live performances set for 2023, for which the band will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of 'Focus' by performing the seminal album in its entirety! In addition, CYNIC will also be paying homage to late members Sean Reinertand Sean Malone as these are the band's first live performances since the members' passings. More anniversary and memorial tribute shows will be announced in the near future!

The band will first appear on the 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise, which sets sail from Miami, FL on January 30 through February 3. Later in the year, CYNIC will then perform at the illustrious ProgPower USA festival on September 6 in Atlanta, GA! The new live lineup will feature Paul Masvidal on vocals and guitars, Max Phelps (Exist, Death to All) on additional guitars and vocals, Brandon Giffin (The Faceless, The Zenith Passage) on bass, and Matt Lynch (Nova Collective, Intronaut) on drums & percussion! Lynch has been drumming with CYNIC since 2015 & appeared on the band's latest full-length, 'Ascension Codes,' as well as the 2018 single "Humanoid." Additionally, Phelps, having also appeared on 'Ascension Codes,' and Giffin have previously toured with CYNIC during the band's 'Carbon Based Anatomy' and 'Kindly Bent to Free Us' tours.

CYNIC guitarist/songwriter Paul Masvidal comments, "Eight years since Cynic’s last live performance, like a blink of an eye. In this chapter we explore perseverance, overcoming hardship, and the healing power of music."

CYNIC's latest release Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work, and if nothing else, a clear indication that they have landed in a place of mastery. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth.

'Ascension Codes' can be ordered at the Season of Mist E-Shop, the CYNIC Bandcamp, and official CYNIC shop. The album can be streamed/downloaded HERE.

In addition, the band has recently released the fully instrumental version of the critically acclaimed 2021 full-length, 'Ascension Codes' via Bandcamp and all streaming services! Stream/download/order HERE.

Attainment

Cynic’s continual state of development has met its share of challenges over the years, hurdles that threatened to dismantle the entity’s forward surge. Yet through hurricanes, breakups, and assorted acrimony both personal and existential, it remains inspired to create.

Their name is synonymous with what it means to be truly progressive in music. Cynic’s top-tier performance acumen and cerebral/spiritual/yogic themes finds them inhabiting a corner of the musical spectrum all their own. Their Venn diagram shows intersections with death metal, prog rock, thrash metal, experimental, new age, jazz fusion, and a myriad of other sonic expressions.

Debut album, Focus (1993), is a certified classic. Although that era ended with transformation into the short-lived Portal, and then a further splinter toward Aeon Spoke, Cynic’s reunion-era has found them embraced in a way that proves how ahead of the times they were in the ‘90s. Through monuments such as the Traced in Air (2008) and Kindly Bent to Free Us (2014) albums, the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Re-Traced EPs, and a surprising rebirth with the “Humanoid” single of 2018, the Cynic legacy remains untarnished. Yet early in the creation cycle for their fourth full-length album, they experienced horrible events that tested the entity’s resolve.

Ascension

The year 2020 will go down in history as a tremendously difficult time for the global human population. For the Cynic family, the struggle was not restricted to a pandemic. It was two utterly senseless losses that threw the band’s immediate concerns into the background: the premature deaths of drummer Sean Reinert in January, at age 48, and bassist Sean Malone in December, at age 50, were shocking and unthinkable.

Reinert, a founding Cynic member since formation in 1988, was highly influential to a multitude of young drummers. His work on 1993’s Focus and Death’s watershed 1991 album, Human, found him sculpting extreme technical metal with a jazz fusion-inspired approach. Now taken for granted, that approach to the instrument and the genre was undoubtedly pioneered in large part by Reinert. Though parting with Cynic in 2015, his imprint on Cynic is inescapable.

The death of Sean Malone dealt another horrible layer of tragedy to Cynic’s 2020. In his many years with the band, Malone’s virtuoso playing meshed intuitively with Reinert’s. Together they formed a nucleus of kinetic, highly capable rhythmic dexterity that fueled Cynic’s celestial aims.

One of these deaths would have seemed unimaginable by itself. Both of them, in the same year, nearly broke surviving member Paul Masvidal. But the seeds of a fourth Cynic full- length existed long before the deaths, and the guitarist, through a haze of grief and disbelief, pushed forward. “I wanted to make this record right after Kindly Bent to Free Us,” says Masvidal. “I was raring to go, hyper-creative, in this total flow state. And then it all imploded.”

Parts of songs were in the gestation process as early as 2014. Masvidal says that Reinert and Malone heard elements of what ended up on the fourth album. Slowly, methodically, and with much careful deliberation, Masvidal eventually completed an album titled Ascension Codes, to honor the memory of his fallen band mates. And while the album honors the lives and contributions of Reinert and Malone, it also pushes Cynic forward for its own sake and through its own will to live. The album, paradoxically, acts as both swan song and rebirth. It is, throughout its 49 minutes, a vivid and highly cosmic journey into the very core of every impulse this band has ever explored.

Offering

As of 2021, the future of Cynic is unclear. Does Ascension Codes mark their final phase of growth? Surely the music finds them laying out a most ambitious trail of spiritual sonic travel, but to call any Cynic album “ambitious” is redundant. They are, by their very nature, an ambitious band. Yet Ascension Codes is a remarkably far-reaching work. Its nine main songs are infused with explosions of color and energy, and throughout these compositions are embedded the “codes”: “Mu-54*,” “A’-va432,” “Ha-144” and so on.

Though clearly an album best listened to in its entirety without distraction, for full impact, there are definitive Cynic songs here that stand strong on their own. “Mythical Serpents” is imbued with propellant adventure, exciting peaks and valleys that tug at the heart while its mathematical sequences challenge the head in a dizzying push/pull dynamic. It’s that quintessential Cynic approach of kaleidoscopic intensity and mannered discipline.

“Diamond Light Body” brings the album to a crashing close – heavy and celestial, with some melodic sequences that feel like new territory for Cynic. An incredibly dense song with inhuman patterns from Lynch, the song’s beautiful urgency and final moments push the album outward into the heavens: “I won't feed the fear / I’ll choose a different timeline / Ascend / All is flux, nothing stands still / Ascend.”

The expanded Cynic collective maintains focus on Masvidal’s vision, each human element adding to the compelling overall result. Truly, if this is to be the final artistic stroke by Cynic, then they have landed in a place of mastery. The stories told by Focus, Traced in Air, and Kindly Bent to Free Us are now completed with Ascension Codes.

Ascension Codes is perhaps the most ethereal sounding Cynic album to date, but also skews heavier than previous album Kindly Bent to Free Us. The expanded lineup is surely responsible for the album’s far-reaching scope.

After Sean Reinert’s exit from Cynic in 2015, Masvidal and Malone recruited drummer Matt Lynch. Found through a tip from Between the Buried and Me’s Dan Briggs, Lynch proved to be a perfect addition to the band. As Masvidal notes, Lynch’s “hybrid modern style is like a fusion of drum and bass electronic music influences combined with modern jazz/prog approaches. Lynch is a true original in that he's a fully realized drummer constructing his parts as carefully as any other compositional element always is on a Cynic record. Every single accent and note coming from him is birthed from a precise and inspired place.” We hear this throughout Ascension Codes, pushing the music along with finesse, adding shape and texture in ways only the most sensitive drummers can do.

But how to replace Sean Malone on bass? Masvidal’s answer: don’t even try. The lines of bass notes heard throughout Ascension Codes are performed on bass synthesizer by keyboardist Dave Mackay. A British pianist, writer, producer and Moog/vintage synth enthusiast, Mackay has toured with everyone from Art Garfunkel to Plini (the latter providing the initial introduction between Mackay and Masvidal). Based in Los Angeles and London, Mackay’s work is sensitive to Malone’s touch, while also adding a throbbing intensity that offers Cynic new low-end possibilities. “He's got a vast jazz harmonic vocabulary,” notes Masvidal, “which is what's needed in the context of Cynic's music, especially for bass lines. I knew that I could never replace Malone. Anyone I would find would be expected to play like him, and that's not fair to another musician. And things were too fresh for me with the loss of Malone, so I had to go somewhere new. With Mackay, I heard his groovy left-hand approach, and how musical he was across the board having played with a variety of musicians and styles. I realized he would bring something fresh to the table, and he provided a space for me to start again with a completely different instrument and forgo any traditional ideas I had about what Cynic bass lines should sound like.

Ultimately Mackay delivered above and beyond, with a real awareness of a bass player's role in a progressive trio context. First, by holding down the harmony and being “in the pocket,” while also creating an independent and dynamic voice within that space. Mackay has a rare combination of skills and the vibe he locked into with Lynch with sounds like a rhythm section from the future. Plus, his Moog synth tone offers a low-end depth that’s never been heard in our recordings.” On December 5, 2019, Dave Mackay shared the stage with Paul Masvidal for a performance of the guitarist’s solo material. On bass that evening was Sean Malone. After the gig, Malone told Masvidal, “We should bring Mackay in for the new record.”

Michael Berberian, president and founder of Season of Mist Records remained close to Masvidal throughout the 2020 losses of his bandmates. Michael states “I have, by now, released close to one thousand albums. None have been more dramatic, none have even been more difficult than this one. I can’t listen to Ascension Codes without goosebumps, a mixed feeling of pride – because it’s a musical milestone, but it also contains a lingering layer of sadness. I hear Paul’s pain on this record. I can feel it, I can touch it. But it’s transcended. ‘Art is to console those who are broken by life,’ said Van Gogh. Here is a demonstration of that.”

Ascension Codes was mixed and co-produced by Warren Riker, who worked with Aeon Spoke, Cynic in the Traced in Air era, and mixed Paul Masvidal’s solo acoustic trilogy. “Riker’s a wizard who gets inside the music and commits. He expands boundaries as a mixer, always finding new ways to push the sonic envelope,” says Masvidal.

Keeping things in the family, Martina Hoffmann’s original painting entitled ‘The Landing’ graces Cynic's new album Ascension Codes with breathtaking scope and presence. The visionary work inspired by Martina's time walking the beaches of Brittany, France after the death of her longtime partner, the artist Robert Venosa (whose artwork adorns all Cynic releases between 1993 and 2018) followed by the loss of her mother, the subject of the piece features the arrival of a great mothership made of light and flesh, not machine but an organic entity that has brought hope and infinite possibilities. Masvidal says of Hoffmann, “Martina’s art has always held a special place in my heart, and I'm deeply grateful for her love and support. When I first contacted Venosa as a teenager, it was Martina who encouraged him to lend his work to the band, because she heard something in our music. She is like the divine mother in this Cynic/ Venosa lineage," Masvidal says. "Her spirit and multidimensional talents are truly a gift to this world. I feel that she is one of the great artistic voices of our age."

The struggle to attain ascension is as important as ascension itself. And after much searching, Cynic have again achieved oneness with the numinous. At a time of possible exit for the entity, Ascension Codes is Cynic reaching a previously-unknown state of enlightenment.

Credits and Lineup:

With Masvidal, Lynch and Mackay at the core, Cynic utilized a variety of other artists to help achieve their vision for Ascension Codes, some of the key players include:

DARK (Roopam Garg) performs as “code worker” on the album, providing harmonic, harp-like guitar textures. DARK also known for his other works with “The Surrealist” is an experimental, ambient artist, pushing the avant-garde guitar envelope using extended techniques and consciousness inspired soundscapes.

Max Phelps contributes “holographic-reptilian-voices” on multiple tracks. Phelps toured with Cynic in the Carbon-Based Anatomy and Kindly Bent to Free Useras, and his own progressive metal band, Exist, have released music on Prosthetic Records. Phelps also took part in Death tribute band, Death to All.

Plini guest solos on “The Winged Ones.” Plini is an an Australian guitarist and composer, producing heart-fueled, progressive instrumental rock. He opened shows for Cynic in Japan, which happened to be their final live performances as a trio with Reinert/Malone.

Additional contributors:

Anrita Melchizedek is a renowned priestess, healer, galactic ambassador, among other pursuits, and provides vocals to the opening and closing code interludes (“Mu-54*” and “Ec-ka72”). Amy Correia and Joshua Leon vocalize light language and phrases on various code interludes. Amy appeared on Traced in Air and 2011’s Carbon-Based Anatomy EP,and plays with Masvidal in the Onward with Love (OwL) project. Michael Devin plays crystal bowls on some of the code interludes. Devin is also a bassist and has played with the Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin Evening, George Lynch, and Whitesnake. Ezekiel Kaplan contributed a vocal harmony to the final track “Diamond Light Body.”

NAILED TO OBSCURITY - Release New Single "Clouded Frame"

Ahead of their European tour alongside ELUVEITIE, AMORPHIS and DARK TRANQUILLITY German melodic death metallers NAILED TO OBSCURITY have released a new single and video titled 'Clouded Frame'. A dark and sinister masterpiece, ‘Clouded Frame’ combines the band’s signature growled vocals and lurching riffs with brooding melodies. Watch the video for 'Clouded Frame' below.

Raimund Ennenga: "Sometimes you struggle to get all the bits and pieces together to memorize a stroke of fate correctly, but you come to realize that certain details became unreachable. They stay hidden in the blind spot of your memory. You are standing in front of the 'Clouded Frame', but it’s just impossible to get a proper view of what’s inside.
We took this idea as the central image of the song 'Clouded Frame' which - in our point of view - really captures this emotion with its eruptive moments as well as its mellow and very fragile chorus."

You can stream "Clouded Frame" here: https://bfan.link/clouded-frame-single

Hailing from Northern Germany, NAILED TO OBSCURITY have successfully created their own distinctive, progressive style of death doom. Their underground debut Abyss… provided the first glimmers of this sound, that they’d go on to develop across their albums Opaque (2013), King Delusion (2017), and most recently Black Frost (2019), which charted at #37 in the German charts. Their melancholic songs never fall short of the necessary brutality, creating a dynamic and distinctly mesmerizing experience for the listener. Throughout their career, the band have performed at festivals such as Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Bloodstock, Brutal Assault, and Party. San Open Air and have toured throughout Europe with the likes of AMORPHIS, SOILWORK, JINJER, DARK TRANQUILLITY, EQUILIBRIUM, and LORD OF THE LOST as well as appearing alongside renowned acts such as ARCH ENEMY, PARADISE LOST, and AT THE GATES.

AlienBlaze Releases New Single + Music Video "Romantically Dead (Live)" via Sumerian Records

AlienBlaze is a 20 year old mad as hell singer/songwriter and lead guitarist crafting genre-fluid anthems resulting in a fascinating hybrid of everything from dark alternative pop, grunge, and emo, to rock and electronic elements. Her dominating presence emits an angsty appeal, encouraging a sense of self-empowerment to her young audience.

In her school years, AlienBlaze spent most of her time at home through sickness, so spent hours and hours learning the electric guitar on her mum’s old guitar, wanting to play like her guitar inspirations Jerry Cantrell of Alice In Chains and Slash. Blaze’s sense of alienation from her peers, is what inspired her to add the ‘alien’ part to her name as an artist.

Finding influence from artists like Billie Eilish and Ashnikko to bands such as The Cure, Alice in Chains and Bring Me The Horizon, AlienBlaze has crafted a vision which embodies the spirit of music that has inspired her whilst creating her own completely unique sound.

Having recently signed to Sumerian Records, AlienBlaze is now unveiling a live version of her most popular single to date, Romantically Dead. Speaking of the single, the singer shares, “It has a gothic vibe and I was thinking of it in filmic terms, if it was a soundtrack of a movie.” Full of attitude, the song showcases reverberating basslines, raucous guitars and crashing percussion, emitting an almost otherworldly, ominous atmosphere while simultaneously delivering an energetic backdrop to AlienBlaze’s echoing vocals which illuminate the entire track.

Covering topics such as the everyday experiences of a young adult, to more poetic themes including pathetic fallacy and imagery from nature, AlienBlaze delivers her message in a way that allows listeners from all walks of life to interpret it.

Since only uploading her first song to Spotify in 2019, she has received attention from numerous Spotify editorial playlists, garnering hundreds of thousands of plays. She has also had praise from the likes of Oli Sykes (Bring Me The Horizon), Rou Reynolds (Enter Shikari), Grimes, and Ellie Roswell (Wolf Alice), as well as from publications including Wonderland Magazine, NOTION and Kerrang!. She explains, “I consider my music to be slightly ‘genre-fluid’ because I take inspiration from many different sources. I like my lyrics to be poetic and different, and hopefully everyone can relate to the sentiment in the songs.” With a name like AlienBlaze, the young musician takes listeners into an undiscovered cosmos, staying true to her ethos of, “I don’t want realism. I want magic!

Biography

Lucifer Star Machine play fired-up Rock'n'Roll influenced by Punk and Hard Rock.

Their high energy live shows cement their reputation as a true in-your-face Hardcore Rock 'n' Roll act. It is the segueing of this wanton brutality, with their sense for heartfelt and catchy melodies, that makes them truly stand out.

The 5-piece was founded in London, UK in 2002 and has since toured several times across Europe, sharing stages with acts like Peter Pan Speedrock, Nashville Pussy and Demented Are Go.

In 2019 the band hit the stage at Wacken Open Air, one of the world's biggest Heavy Metal festivals, where the bill included Slayer, Body Count and Airbourne amongst others.

Lucifer Star Machine's first single, "Death Baby", came out in 2004 and was produced by Punk Rock legend Rat Scabies of The Damned. After two album releases on various indies, they signed with German label I Sold My Soul Media in 2013, who released their critically acclaimed third full length 'Rock'n'Roll Martyrs'. The record was lauded for its authenticity and its snotty and unadorned approach.

In 2012 founder and band leader Tor Abyss moved back to his home country of Germany, whilst the rest of the band remained in England. Over time the logistics proved to be too difficult, so he decided to give the band a fresh start.

Thus, since Autumn 2014, Lucifer Star Machine is now based in Germany, with band members being located in Hamburg, Brunswick, Hanover, Fulda and Ede (NL).

Since their reformation the group has released 2 singles and an EP, which were accompanied by three videos.

The band has signed a record deal with Swedish label The Sign Records, who released the group’s fourth album 'The Devil’s Breath' worldwide on April 3, 2020.

During the pandemic, Lucifer Star Machine has written and recorded a new full-length record, which is set to be released by The Sign Records in 2023.

Their new line-up boasts ex-Mad Sin axeman Mighty Ramon and drummer Captain Fettsau.

ENSLAVED Announce New Studio Album "Heimdal"

Those few golden, undying hearts are those of secret sons.
And the secrets of the Sun are those of daughters asking to...

Bergen visionaries Enslaved are proud to announce their 16th studio album, Heimdal, set to be released on March 3rd 2023, via Nuclear Blast Records. Today's news is accompanied by the release of a blistering new single, titled 'Congelia', alongside an emotive, environmental video.

Enslaved's Ivar Bjørnson & Grutle Kjellson commented,

"It’s quite weird, yet pretty awesome that we are now talking about the release of our 16th album; yes our 16th full-length album release. That’s not too shabby for a couple of scallywags from rural western Norway, is it? If you count our stint in the short lived Phobia-act, we have been playing together for no less than 32 years!

In all these years, Norse mythology has been our umbilical cord to the realms of mysticism and philosophy, and our gateway to the realms of deep psychology and the esoteric worlds beyond. One of the most fascinating characters of our mythology is HEIMDAL, and he has been lurking around in our minds like an enigma for three decades now. His first appearance was in a song called 'Heimdallr' on our demo tape 'Yggdrasill' back in 1992, and he’s had both minor and more significant roles in our lyrical universe over the years.

This time we have decided to dedicate an entire body of work to this most enigmatic of characters and richest of archetypes - we give you 'HEIMDAL'. We have reached deeper and scouted further ahead than ever before - the past, present and future sound of the band comes together in songs born from sheer inspiration - it is the common force of a close-nit group of friends and musicians."

Heimdal, is both a departure and a communion with roots forged over three decades ago in the turbulent birth throes of Norway’s black metal scene. The record is named after Heimdal, arguably the most mysterious entity in Nordic mythology.

The record features psychedelic track 'Caravans To The Outer Worlds' from last year's EP of the same name. Album bonus versions contain an extra track, 'Gangandi', alongside a Blu-Ray copy of 2021's stunning Otherworldly Big Band Experience streamed event - the band's boldest project to date, featuring fellow Norwegian prog band Shaman Elephant. The kaleidoscopic stage show features a stellar setlist, covering Enslaved's career, both past and present.

Heimdal was produced by Enslaved's own Ivar Bjørnson, Iver Sandøy and Grutle Kjellson. Mixing was handled by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios, and the final treatment was mastered by Tony Lindgren. The concept and lyrics for Heimdal was, as always, developed by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson in tandem.

The album was recorded primarily at Solslottet Studios in Bergen, which is owned by Iver Sandøy. Solslottet is a satellite of the well-known Duper Studios, where the drums were recorded and engineered by Iver himself, with assistance from Vegard Lemme. The main guitars, bass, pianos, organs, and vocals were also recorded at Solslottet. Arve 'Ice Dale' Isdal recorded his guitar leads at his own Earshot & Conclave Studios. The final touches and a few experimental ideas were added at the Overlook Hotel using Solslottet’s mobile studio rig. All music for Heimdal was written and demoed at Ivar Bjørnson’s own Crow’s Nest studio.

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene's indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson, releasing their first demo Yggdrasill in the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-album Hordanes Land coming out in 1993, and with their debut full-length Vikingligr Veldi arriving in the spring of 1994.

Enslaved in 2022 are a band in stellar form - a band at its most existentialist and self-conscious, proud Bergeners bearing the torch of their hometown’s extraordinary musical history. Their most recent material shows Enslaved at their most unleashed and thought-through - a lethal combination unfurling a potential that’s easily rekindling the furor of their early works while dancing gracefully through their most ambitious, most haunting and most musical tunes yet. A contradiction? Life itself is a contradiction. And yet we all live to prove it wrong.

Grutle Kjellson | vocals
Arve 'Ice Dale' Isdal | guitar

Following their traditions and connection to nature, NYTT LAND directs its powers toward a new territory, leaving behind the rough lands of the north and embarking on a sonic journey in five transfixing songs.

NYTT LAND ventures into dark, western frontiers with their upcoming EP, 'Ritual: Blood of the West', to be released digitally via Napalm Records on November 18, 2022. Based on tracks from their latest album, 'Ritual', that has been reworked in gothic folk and western-inspired styles.

Staying thematically faithful to ancient legends and adapting to the temperate sounds of the west, opening song "Dark Country Ritual" not only displays NYTT LAND’s dedication to their own legacy, but opens the EP with an enchanting, ambient new sound, rising and falling like smoke.

On “Song of U-Gra” the band flexes its trademark vocal approach with summoning chants that gently carry the listener away to another mental state, conveying more tranquil versions of the originals without losing their depth and ancient thematic significance.

Dead Man’s Ballad” tells its story like a coyote howling at the moon, offering a mysterious yet soothing blend of guitar and vocals that reinterpret the band’s dark folk essence. “Blood of the West” closes the EP with acoustic guitar instrumentals that summon the spirits of the west and leaves the listener enchanted, induced in the serene, ancient sounds of the grasslands.

NYTT LAND on the new EP:

"We've said many times that country and blues music are some of our favorite music genres. This EP is our tribute and memory to those great musicians who stood at the very origins of American country and blues music, those whose music inspires us daily. For us, working on this album has become the most unusual, but at the same time extremely interesting experience. And we really love that we did it!"

Returns to the Road after Paternity Leave on Nov. 30 for Solo Shows,
Opening for Alabama and Co-Headlining Acoustic Dates with Lee Brice

McCreery Will Perform on “CMA Country Christmas” on ABC on Dec. 8

Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Network to Premiere “Five More Minutes: Moments Like These” Movie on Dec. 17; This is the Second Movie Inspired by McCreery’s Hit Song

With 2021’s Same Truck producing two RIAA Gold-certified No. 1 hits “You Time” and three-week chart topper “Damn Strait” along with current climbing single “It Matters To Her,” Triple Tigers recording artist Scotty McCreery continues to deliver fan-favorite tracks with today’s release of Same Truck: The Deluxe Album, available on vinyl, CD and digital formats.

“It’s so exciting to release a Deluxe Edition of the Same Truck album with these additional songs that I have been wanting to share with everyone,” said McCreery. “We played a few of them live before I went on paternity leave, and they went over well with the audience. Plus, I’m happy to have the album out on vinyl. That’s what Gabi and I listen to at home, and I’ve heard from many fans that they were also hoping to get the album on vinyl.”

As a co-writer on all but four of the 18 tracks, Same Truck: The Deluxe Album, produced by Frank Rogers, Derek Wells and Aaron Eschuis, continues to showcase McCreery’s lauded songwriting skills with six new songs, including “On It,” reconnecting McCreery with “In Between” co-writers Jessi Alexander, Jonathan Singleton and Rogers, which was one of three consecutive No. 1 singles from his RIAA Gold-certified album Seasons Change. Celebrated by Billboard as a continuation of “his winning arc of songs pulled from chapters of his own life,” “Small Town Story” finds McCreery joined by his 2013 Platinum-certified Top 10 smash “See You Tonight” co-writers Ashley Gorley and Zach Crowell.

Written by McCreery, Rhett Akins and Lee Thomas Miller, the official music video for “It Matters to Her” debuted earlier this week with PEOPLE.com. Directed by Jeff Ray (who also directed McCreery’s videos for “Five More Minutes,” “This is It,” “In Between” and “Damn Strait”), the heartwarming video was filmed while preparations were made for Merrick Avery McCreery’s arrival, featuring a collection of home videos starring his wife Gabi and their dog Moose.

Dec. 18 Raleigh, NC 94.7 QDR Acoustic Christmas for the Kids Guitar Pull

The three dates featuring McCreery co-headlining with Brice will be acoustic shows. Both artists will be on stage for the entire concert, and they will trade off songs with each other, providing a more intimate concert experience than usual.

McCreery will perform on “CMA Country Christmas” on Dec. 8 at 9 PM ET (8 PM CT) on ABC (and next day on Hulu and Disney +). He will ring in the holidays alongside Steven Curtis Chapman, Dan + Shay, Maren Morris, Old Dominion, Carly Pearce, Molly Tuttle and The War And Treaty.

His 2018 No. 1, RIAA Double Platinum-certified hit song “Five More Minutes” (co-written with Rogers and Monty Criswell) has inspired a second movie on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries to premiere on Dec. 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, starring Ashley Williams and Lucas Bryan. Titled Five More Minutes: Moments Like These, the film is not a sequel to last year’s hit Five More Minutes, and has a brand new storyline. McCreery does not appear in the movie, as it was filmed during the last month of Gabi’s pregnancy.

McCreery also took home a BMI Award last week for co-writing his No. 1, RIAA Gold-certified hit “You Time,” named one of BMI’s Most Performed Country Songs of 2021. Co-writers to the song Frank Rogers and Aaron Eschuis received an ASCAP Award for the song in the same category.

A second movie, “Five More Minutes: Moments Like These” will air on the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Network on December 17, 2022. French Hard Rockers BLACKRAIN Release New Single & Lyric Video for "Raise Your Glass"

New album 'Untamed' Out November 25th

French Sleaze rockers BLACKRAIN release their new single and a lyric video for the song, "Raise Your Glass", today!

The song is taken from the forthcoming studio album 'Untamed' out November 25th.

Sometimes it takes a few years until a band finds that perfect sound they have in mind for their songs.

For the new album ‘Untamed’ by the French Sleaze Rockers BLACKRAIN, that’s exactly the case. Although already established as a band with their six previous releases and also very successful on tour (among others with Europe, Alice Cooper, Scorpions or Steel Panther), the quartet around singer Swan now presents a work that sets new quality standards in every aspect.

“We love the powerful sound, the banging drums, this awesome mix of catchy melodies and aggression that permeates ‘Untamed’ from the very beginning,” bassist Matthieu de la Roche enthuses and goes on naming the producer of the new quality work: Hannes Braun, front man of the German hard rockers Kissin` Dynamite and an important figure in sound engineering. De la Roche“Hannes told us: ´I love your songs, your show really has excited me, I know exactly how your next record should sound!`. Thanks to his help, we found the sound we’ve been looking for for ten years.”

The connection between the French group and their German producer was practically self-evident: BLACKRAIN accompanied Kissin` Dynamite on their last European tour and they were friends for about a decade. “Kissin Dynamite was our support band in 2009 in a big gig in Paris. Now we are supporting them, and we are fine with this because it allowed us to cross Europe and catch a new public,” tells De La Roche.

Out of this friendship sprang a fruitful collaboration. Swan, the singer and front man: “I honestly don't know how Hannes managed it, but whenever I sent him a new song for review and mix, he found that perfect last piece of the puzzle to refine it.”

With ‘Untamed’ (the cover artwork is done by the Asian graphic artist Yellow Mushi) BLACKRAIN has definitely created a small masterpiece!
