Miami-based instrumental math rock project Aurora Dream has just released a new single and music video titled "Comfy" featuring the immensely talented and well-known guitarist from Japan, Ichika Nito. The track is a fusion of various genres including progressive rock, math rock, pop, disco and modern production. The song is a follow-up to their most recent single "A New Infinite," that featured Australian guitarist Plini and his bassist Simon Grove.

"Comfy" was produced by Randy Slaugh, mixed by Simon Grove, and mastered by Venezuelan engineer Moises D' Bello. The keys and synths were arranged and played by Eric Guenther from The Contortionist, with bass performed by Magnus Steed and drums played by Chris Allison from Plini. Through this track, founder and Venezuelan guitarist Daniel Morales showcases his impressive guitar skills, including complex riffs, tapping, and melodic layers. This not only highlights his own artistry but also displays the true potential of Aurora Dream.

The music video for "Comfy" was created by 4102 Productions, and it features visual elements that reference the art style of Venezuelan artist Cruz Diez, a nod to Morales' home country. The album's color theme and other visual aspects were combined with this art style to create a visually stunning and psychedelic experience.

Producer Randy Slaugh and Eric Guenther collaborated on the track, adding unique production layers that added more dimension to the music and made it much more interesting and dynamic. The result is a catchy and enjoyable track that will appeal music fans from various genres and not just from the prog rock, metal, and guitar world.

“I have to say, the process of writing "Comfy" was such a blast. I really didn't overthink it too much - it all came together very naturally. I wasn't trying to create something that was super technical or overly progressive. I just wanted to write something fun, with interesting elements slowly added in as I went along. This track is titled “Comfy” because it references a time where I finally felt comfortable and happy after going through a long period of depression and personal struggles during the end of 2018 and early 2019, a time in my life where I also decided to start writing the first Aurora Dream album," says Daniel.

He adds, _"I feel so grateful to have had the chance to collaborate with such talented people, including Ichika Nito, who brought his iconic writing skills and angelic sound to the track, taking my music to a whole other level. Working with Randy Slaugh, Simon Grove, Mangus Steed, Chris Allison, and Eric Guenther was also a pretty amazing experience where I learned a lot of things. I can't wait to release Aurora Dream's first full-length album. I truly believe it's my best work yet, and I'm so excited to share it with the world. Aurora Dream is a Miami, Florida-based musical project that was founded by Daniel Morales in 2016, during his final months at university. The project was launched with the release of "Parallel Colors (Demo)," a single that was originally meant to be a personal release. However, due to high demand during live shows, Daniel decided to establish a separate project.

Aurora Dream pushes the boundaries of traditional guitar music with its unique fusions, writing styles, and production techniques. Daniel Morales, also known as “Duniel”, is a Venezuelan-American independent guitarist, entrepreneur, and composer. He is best known as the founder of the instrumental project Aurora Dream, and also releases music under his own name where he explores his creative ideas and continues to expand the boundaries of guitar music. Daniel composes, plays guitar, records, and manages his unique brand of instrumental progressive music, all from his bedroom studio. Born in Mérida, Venezuela, on September 11th, 1996, Daniel is considered to be one of the most successful and influential guitarists from his home country. His inspirations revolve around progressive rock, metal, emo, math rock, pop, and experimental music.

ENTER SHIKARI Share New Single "Bloodshot" & Announce Special Matinee Show

Enter Shikari are today sharing "Bloodshot", the third single to be taken from their highly-anticipated forthcoming album A Kiss For The Whole World, which will be released on 21st April via SO Recordings / Ambush Reality. Listen to "Bloodshot" below.

"Bloodshot" follows recent singles "(pls) set me on fire" and "It Hurts", both of which were instantly embraced with open arms by fans old and new, and received their first live outings during the band’s sensational run of sold-out February residency shows in the UK. For Enter Shikari, rejuvenation, resilience and resurrection have been on the agenda as they introduce new music to the world. However, in the arrival of "Bloodshot" the band have more questions to pose themselves, and us.

“Every day, I seem to be asking myself “Is this article biased?”, “is this claim true?”, “Should I be more furious about this issue? Or less furious?”, “Am I being manipulated? Provoked? Radicalised by my own ‘tribe’?.

"Bloodshot" is about how hard it is to find truth, and how easy it is to stop thinking for yourself and simply repeat your ‘team’s’ mantras.

Everyone’s so fucking angry with everyone else and it’s exhausting. It seems like social media’s main purpose these days is to hypnotise us to hate."

As the calendar now signals three years since Enter Shikari last released an album - their UK #2 charting album Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible – it is useful to think back to the final question the band last posed fans: “Is this a new beginning? / Or are we close to the end?” Little could they know just how close to the end things would end up feeling as the events of the early ‘20s dimmed the light in the furnace of their live juggernaut, and connection to their fans. “At the time it felt like we ourselves, as musicians, were experiencing the death of our band,” says lead vocalist and keyboardist Rou Reynolds.

Unsurprisingly, the key in the band’s ignition came in the form of a live show as they headlined the Download Festival Pilot in front of 10,000 fans. Where not a single new word flowed from the pen of Reynolds in the two years prior, a realisation was born that would come to define the band’s seventh LP: “I just didn’t realise that the human and physical connection to other people were so central to how I write,” he says. Enter Shikari isn’t just four people – it’s hundreds of thousands.

The album's lead single "(pls) set me on fire" sparked the next stage in the band’s evolution, and the first words we hear from Enter Shikari 2.0 don’t come in the form of a question this time, but a command: “Please set me on fire”. In other words, ignite the spark inside us and set us free. This may be a new Enter Shikari but they’ve lost nothing in their flair for bold opening gambits.

Reynolds comments on the single’s conception: "Honestly, I thought I was f*****. I’ve never felt so detached from my soul, my purpose, my f****** spirit. I didn’t write music for almost two years. The longest I’d gone before that was two weeks. I was broken. It’s almost as if my brain had asked: “What is the point in music if it cannot be shared? What is the point in writing music if it’s not to be experienced with others?” and then promptly switched itself off. ‘(pls) set me on fire’ grew out of that desperation. This song is a projectile vomit of positive energy. Every emotion trapped inside me for two years, finally set free."

It was in the Spring of 2022 that the band descended to the coastal town of Chichester, and a delipidated farmhouse, to rebuild their studio setup and capture their renewed momentum on record. Using only solar power to track the album – in what Reynolds says was to “bring back some sense of naivety” – the life-giving properties and Technicolor palate of A Kiss For The Whole World were made real. Reynolds continues: “Back to basics. This band - my best friends - bundled into an old farmhouse, miles away from anywhere. Off-grid, and ready to rediscover ourselves. This album is powered by the sun, the most powerful object in our solar system. And I think you can tell. It’s a collection of songs that represent an explosive reconnection with what Enter Shikari is. The beginning of our second act”.

Morris Higham Management client Johnny Dailey joined Jamie Dailey (of Dailey and Vincent), Seth Taylor and Mark Miller (of Sawyer Brown), along with collaborators and bandmates, Gregg "Hobie" Hubbard and Shayne Hill (of Sawyer Brown) for their on-going only-in-Nashville charitable series "Songs For A Cause" at the Bluebird Cafe on March 1. Proceeds benefited the National Songwriters Hall of Fame (NSHOF) in honor of recent inductee and renowned songwriter, producer and special guest of the evening, Buddy Cannon (Kenny Chesney, Reba).

“We so appreciate Morris Higham Management, City National Bank and the Bluebird Café for honoring our nonprofit through their Songs For A Cause fundraiser on Wednesday night,” said Mark Ford, executive director of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. “Buddy, Jamie, Johnny and Mark truly brought their A games. Great songs. Great performances. A magical night, and we are grateful!”

Miller wrote or co-wrote more than 20 singles for Sawyer Brown including three No. 1 songs and eight Top 5 songs, and yet the night marked his first time ever playing a writer's round at The Bluebird Cafe, or anywhere!

Emerging Pagan black metal project Unfelled is rising from the underground to release its debut full-length, ‘Pall of Endless Perdition.’ Designed by the same mastermind behind Woods of Desolation, the project serves as a vicious and violent counterpart to its elegant and melodic predecessor, showcasing muti-instrumentalist D.’s impressive musical duality. 

Formed in 2016 as a project of D. (Woods of Desolation, Remete), Unfelled first emerged with the solo demo offering ‘Beneath Distant Skies’ at the end of 2017. Expanding the line-up in 2020, fellow veterans Mitch (Austere, Dearthe) and Vlad (Drudkh, Windswept) were enlisted on vocals and drums respectively, completing the vision for the band.  

Moving forward as a three-piece, the forthcoming full-length sees Unfelled pursuing heavier, more aggressive territory, yet never entirely eschewing the sense of melody and atmosphere established on the debut demo. “Musically weaving together fury and triumph, aggression and melody, the lyrics predominately center on bloodshed, war & death – the threefold cloak beneath which lies eternal darkness,” says Unfelled about the offering. 

Now, upon joining forces with Season of Mist, Unfelled is ready to unleash ‘Pall of Endless Perdition.’ Without question, this record is certain to leave its black mark upon the masses.

Shadow Of The Moon was not only Blackmore's deliberate radical cut from his previous life as a celebrated rockstar in Deep Purple and Rainbow; it was a ground-breaking statement of his artistic ideals: mainly acoustic music, influenced by the songs of the Middle Ages and The Renaissance, with a touch of genius that made them sound contemporary.

The album's 25th Anniversary Edition features fully remixed audio that was converted in HD from the original recording, allowing the performance to shine in its original glory. The original iconic artwork has been restored and reworked in preparation for the anniversary.

Shadow Of The Moon will be re-released in a series of physical formats, each including two previously unreleased acoustic songs ("Spirit Of The Sea" and "Shadow Of The Moon" — both recorded in an intimate home session by Candice and Ritchie in 2022), enhanced artwork with never seen before photos and memorabilia, and an extensive new interview with Ritchie and Candice.

Hailing from Chicago’s renowned Wax Trax! Records stable of artists, MY LIFE WITH THE THRILL KILL KULT have been conjuring up sonic tales of sex, blasphemy and kitschy horror since 1987. The band helped develop the industrial music genre, yet have continued to expand their style, creating one of the most diverse repertoires in modern music. Electronic rock, heavily influenced by both disco and funk can best describe their sound, while spoken-word samples lifted from B-movies gives the band their signature mark. They have released 14 studio albums, a slew of remix compilations, and have contributed to a variety of soundtracks and film scores, including a cameo performance in the 1994 cult movie classic The Crow.

Artist Franke Nardiello and musician Marston Daley, two Chicago neighbors who enjoyed late night binges watching trashy exploitation films and horror flicks, wanted to make their own movie to be called “My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult”. While the project never came to fruition, they wrote some music to be the accompanying soundtrack. Both worked at the Wax Trax record store, and when label founders Jim Nash and Dannie Flesher heard the songs, they were intrigued. Using the film title as the name of the band, they released a 3-song EP in early 1988. The response was overwhelming, and it was clear fans wanted to hear more.

Taking the stage names Groovie Mann (Nardiello) and Buzz McCoy (Daley), the duo began to focus on music full time. They created an occult meets leather biker image to compliment the band’s name which included enlisting a bevy of voluptuous back-up singers / dancers known as the BOMB GANG GIRLZ. In June of ’88, they flew to label mate Luc Van Acker’s studio in Belgium to record their first album, I See Good Spirits and I See Bad Spirits. It was recorded in just ten days, and mixed in another ten days at Southern Studiosin London. The fans ate it up! They followed up with two hard-hitting dance floor 12” tracks - Kooler Than Jesus (1989) and Cuz It’s Hot (1990), which features no-wave chanteuse Lydia Lunch on vocals. The New York Times wrote, “Sex, blasphemy, big beats and go-go dancing; they’re all in a day’s work for My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult”. This attracted the attention of indie fans, as well as the ire of the PMRC and conservative religious groups in practically equal measure. By the time of their sophomore release, Confessions Of A Knife (1990), they were far and away one of the biggest selling acts on the label.

1991 saw the release of their third album, Sexplosion!, a calculated sonic and visual departure from their previous work. 1950’s pin-up models replaced the demonic imagery, while sleazy stripper horns, disco beats and house diva vocals (provided by artist Shawn Christopher) took prominence over the more abrasive musical elaments.They put together a provocative stage show, complete with spinning police lights, mirror balls and a stocked bar with bartender to serve the scantily clad musicians and dancers while they performed. Alternative Press reviewed the show as “Sin-sational!”, while Melody Maker described it as “A Cabaret from Hell”. It was a huge success, and the album sold so well (fueled by the phenomenal radio hit “Sex On Wheelz”) that the group signed a deal with Interscope Records shortly afterwards and released two more albums - 13 Above the Night (1993), and Hit & Run Holiday (1995).

Hollywood also embraced the KULT, recognizing the unique cinematic aspect in their sound. Most notably, the band scored five songs for animator Ralph Bakshi’s Cool World (1992) and wrote the lap dance song for director Paul Verhoven's saucy Showgirls (1993). Comedies BASEketball and The Flintstones Movie prominently feature songs from the Hit & Run Holidayalbum. They have been roasted by MTV’s Beavis & Butthead, and were written into the story line of the film Sexy Evil Genius which also features the song "A Daisy Chain 4 Satan”. Most recently the club hit “Kooler Than Jesus” can be heard blasting in Season 3 of the Netflix series Narcos.

The band moved to Rykodisc in 1997 and re-released their entire remastered / repackaged catalog, along with five more studio albums, including an homage to 70’s disco era called Gay Black & Married, and the sultry and decadent Filthiest Show In Town (2007). They also formed their own label, SleazeBox Records, in 2001, enabling the release of a growing number of side-projects in addition to new TKK material.

Today SLEAZEBOX.com boasts the complete THRILL KILL KULT catalog, in addition to related works such as Mann’s DARLING KANDIE, and McCoy’s self titled projects. They continue to work with Wax Trax! Records for the purpose of re-issuing special limited edition vinyl. Buzz and Groovie still record and perform live along with veteran band mates Mimi Star (bass) and Justin Thyme (drums), all the while making a reputation for themselves as one of the most notorious and controversial cult bands of their generation.

The collective will release their debut, self-titled EP, a brutal, visceral, roundhouse kick to the gut of the modern heavy music landscape, produced by Slipknot's Sid Wilson, on Wednesday, April 26th. It will be the first release to come out on Blowed Out Records, the new label venture between legendary producer, Ross Robinson (Korn, The Cure, Slipknot, Glassjaw, At The Drive In and countless others), artist Ghostemane and Bill Armstrong (SideOneDummy).

NEW ALBUM THE DEATH WE SEEK OUT MAY 5 VIA SHARPTONE

Connecticut metalcore outfit CURRENTS spent the winter on tour with Parkway Drive + Memphis May Fire. They are eager to head back out on the road and will embark on a headline run this spring. The Death We Seek Tour kicks off on May 11 in Worcester and runs through June 9 in Philadelphia. Like Moths to Flames, Invent Animate, Unity TX, and Foreign Hands will appear on select dates.

Invent Animate appear from May 11 through May 14 and return on June 6 through June 9. Unity TX appear from May 19 through May 31.

PSYGNOSIS is a project started in 2009 by Rémi Vanhove, who was eager to gather all of his musical influences into one entity. A first solo EP, "Phrases", was released in June 2009 and lays the foundations of PSYGNOSIS' music: an atmospheric extreme Metal with hints of electronic music. Rémi then surrounded himself with a second guitarist, a bassist and a singer, and continues to program the drums himself. 

The first album "Anti-Sublime" was released in January 2012 and allowed the band to continue the artistic process started with "Phrases". This release also marked the first encounters of the quartet with the public. After the EP "Sublimation" in 2013, Psygnosis came out with a second album in 2014. "Human Be[ing]" shows that the band has gained in maturity, through better digested influences and compositions whose structures become more complex.

The year 2015 marks an important change for PSYGNOSIS: The band made the radical choice to become instrumental by recruiting Raphaël Verguin as a cellist. A first EP "AAliens" followed, followed up by the full length "Neptune" in 2017, an ambitious opus of one hour and seventeen minutes inviting the listeners to travel to the ends of the Solar System. 

Despite the instrumental aspect, PSYGNOSIS continues to assert its first intention: that of a Metal mixing nervous riffs, blast beats and atmospheric ambiences. The meeting of Rémi and Raphaël with the guitarist Elise Masliah and the drummer Thomas Crémier enables the quartet to stabilize its formation and to defend on stage PSYGNOSIS' intense and emotional music. 

The pandemic gave the band time to work serenely on their new album, which will be released via Season of Mist later this year.

The quartet is known for telling epic tales of land and sea, monsters and men, the fight for survival, and the unending thirst for blood and ale! This time, however, Valensorow are introducing fans to their more wholesome side.

The new video brings the tale of “The Bird and The Bear” to life via a completely family friendly puppet show…I mean, it’s definitely not a chaotic and unhinged trip that you would expect from the 3am hour of Adult Swim. We promise.

Commenting on their new video, the band shares:

"The making of the puppet video for 'The Bird and The Bear' was a huge undertaking for us. We wanted to capture the humor and ridiculousness that lies within the story of the song in a unique way that was within our realm of possibility as independent artists. The answer to that was obviously puppets. We quickly realized that high quality puppets can be quite expensive, and we needed our bear puppet to look a certain kind of crazy. So our guitarist enrolled in the University of YouTube and designed and built the bear puppet (AKA Beary) from scratch. The bird puppet (Larry) was found where everyone finds their oddly specific human-crafted masterpieces...Etsy.”

With tech rehearsals in one place, video elements coming together in another, Kenny Chesney and his band have set up camp on the banks of the Cumberland River. After one of 2022’s biggest tours in any genre – having the fifth biggest tour after Bad Bunny, Elton John, Def Leppard / Mötley Crüe and Harry Styles – the songwriter/superstar from East Tennessee decided to take his music to the fans who exist beyond the major stadium markets.
 
Dubbed the I Go Back Tour, named for his No. 1 that embodied the way songs can transport you to times and places that hold the greatest memories, the man the Wall Street Journal deemed “The King of the Road” wanted to make sure every person who loved this music and found their life in his songs had the opportunity to experience the incredible live experience that made 2022 one rocking summer.
 
“After the time in limbo because of the unknowns,” Chesney says, “I think we’d almost forgotten how passionate and intense No Shoes Nation can be! But from the moment the play-on music started at Raymond James Stadium, it hit every single member of my road family in the heart: the power of these songs and what happens when we play these songs for people.”

Having played to 1.3 million fans on his HERE AND NOW 2022 Tour, including breaking his personal best at many of the 21 NFL stadium plays, this summer, it was one for the books. “My band found a whole new gear last summer,” Chesney explains. “As somebody who lives to play music, to feel that energy from No Shoes Nation and see what it does to all of us on that stage, I wanted everyone who’s loved this music to have a chance to experience what we were getting all summer, every single show. I remember that same vibe when this whole thing started taking off: people using chain-cutters to get onto the lawn in the Carolina amphitheaters ‘cause we were so sold out... switchboards crashing in Atlanta... the crazy night we had...

Dark folk singer-songwriter THE DEVIL'S TRADE has teamed up with industrial noise artist JOHN CXNNOR for the recording of a brand new live album, 'John Cxnnor X The Devil’s Trade - Live at Roadburn.' Record at the 2022 edition of Roadburn, the album will be released on April 21, 2023 via Season of Mist (digital) and Pelagic Records (physical). For over two decades, Roadburn Festival has been a driving force in the international music scene. Fans of Archon Angel's debut will surely find no sophomore slump awaits them on "II". In fact, Stevens and Lonobile have locked in on all the key parts that worked so well on their debut and amplified and perfected them for this glorious follow-up. 

The seeds of Archon Angel were planted when producer/guitarist Lonobile and vocalist Stevens were collaborating on songs for Timo Tolkki's Avalon's 'Return To Eden' album, which Aldo produced and played guitar on and Zak did some guest lead vocals for. After some discussions about what musical direction they wanted to take, Aldo sent Zak some demos that were reminiscent of classic Savatage records like 'Edge Of Thorns' and 'Gutter Ballet'. The two felt they were onto something and followed their musical muse, ultimately culminating in what would become Archon Angel's debut album, 'Fallen'.

Zak Stevens first came to prominence in the metal scene when he was hand-picked by Savatage's Jon Olivia to take over as lead vocalist for the band. Starting with 1993's 'Edge Of Thorns', he would record four studio albums with the band, including the aforementioned album plus 'Handful Of Rain', 'Dead Winter Dead', and 'The Wake Of Magellan'. He has also performed on multiple Trans-Siberian Orchestra releases, including 'Christmas Eve and Other Stories', 'Beethoven's Last Night', and more, while also being a member of the band's touring production.

Around 2001, Zak started a band, Circle II Circle, which has recorded seven studio albums, with the most recent being 2015's 'Reign Of Darkness'. Additionally, he has appeared on albums by Timo Tolkki's Avalon, Machines Of Grace, Jon Olivia's Pain, and more.

ROTTEN SOUND Reveals Music Video for New Song, "Renewables"

The apocalypse is nigh and Finnish grindcore entity ROTTEN SOUND has crafted the perfect soundtrack to accompany humanity’s impending extinction. Aptly titled ‘Apocalypse,’ the band’s eighth studio album is dropping into 2023 with the same blistering speed and chaotic impetus as an asteroid searing through atmosphere and crushing everything upon impact.

Each song delivering abrupt yet violent aftershocks, delivering an auditory assault with its unstoppable, seismic force. The band is now sharing the vicious second single, "Renewables," along with a performance clip, which can be found below.

ROTTEN SOUND frontman Keijo Niinimaa comments on the track: "Renewable energy is obviously good for the future, but the way we mine for batteries quite excessively is creating another problem, because that's very far from being carbon neutral and is polluting the environment too. The future will show how well we are able to shift e.g. to liquid hydrogen, which could theoretically replace all fossil fuels in some decades and would be CO2-free if created with sun, wind and other natural sources of energy. I suppose the main point is in one of the verses though: we didn't learn to consume less but end up green washing, quite often without even knowing it. Music was written by Sami, fast and furious and Matti's lines are bringing again some more depth into the vocals."

Monument Records’ powerhouse vocalist Caitlyn Smith took to social media this morning to announce her 2023 The Great Pretender Solo Tour, an unplugged, unaccompanied, unique arrangement in celebration of her new album High & Low (Release Date: April 14, 2023).
 
Kicking off April 3 in Austin, Texas, and in partnership with DTour, the trek includes 15 independent venues across the country celebrating the stories behind the songs.

To speak to Sylvaine, the one-woman multi-instrumentalist, bandleader, and composer born Kathrine Shepard, is to speak to some spirit that exists beyond the veil of convention and stereotypes. This is not a woman playing to the vogue dark melodic folklorist trope that has become so prevalent in the metal scene but rather, this is a woman who is a serious and classically trained composer and arranger whose songs, that originate on unplugged electric guitars in lavender and black bedrooms, end up exploding against the unlimited conventions of what modern music can accomplish. 

For some time, Kathrine Shepard has been seen as the petite pixie of the Norwegian black gaze scene but her small eleven features and lightheartedness belie the woman warrior behind Nova, her complex and personal fourth release. Following her 2018 Atoms Aligned Coming Undone release, Sylvaine (a play on the name of one of her beloved French poets, Paul Verlaine) gives us Nova, an album that is both a musical and personal reawakening of a singer/composer finding her way in this world.  

The Lord of the Rings type choir arrangement heralds in the opening of her latest release as we the entranced listeners follow her to the realm of Lothlorien. The creation of this ambitious release began in 2019, before the world changed before all of our eyes. Experiencing a personal loss in a time the world was suffering a collective loss, Sylvaine composed on her guitar and wrote in her notebooks, eventually leading her into the small rooms of Drudenhaus in early 2021. Sequestered away in the countryside of France, the Norwegian native and her musical cohorts would all contract Covid. Asthmatic since birth, our heroine isolated herself in a small room to score out the different soprano and alto melodies of an actual choir to make her vision for the opening track “Nova,” come to life. Sung in an imagined language, the syllables of NO-VA continued to emerge, suggesting to the singer something linguistically symbolic and important. 

“I’ve been wanting to write a choir piece since my 'Wistful' days,” she says, “Just a purely vocal piece. I love harmonies and the most personal instrument you have is yourself, your voice. I wanted to really show who I am this time around.” 

Naked on the cover, which may raise some eyebrows, Sylvaine insists to her fans that this is a symbol of her own vulnerability and personal rebirth that transpired over these years of creating Nova. “Nova" in terms of language is connected to words such as nuova (Italian) or nueva (Spanish), meaning ‘new’ and speaks to a rebirth, to loss, the temporality of life, grieving as nothing lasting forever, but looking forward as new doors are forever opening.  

Album tracks “Mono No Aware” and “Fortapt” are compositions in the 10-minute range, showing the progressive skills of the multi-instrumentalist’s musical mastery and magic. Taking the loud and quiet back-and-forth of the ‘90s a step farther, she manages to haunt every note with primal sincerity. “Fortapt” is a particularly unique track, paying homage to Sylvaine’s Norwegian roots. And while critics may want to pin a song like “Nowhere, Still Somewhere” in the shoegaze or dreampop category, her mysterious resonance adds something to the composition that makes Sylvaine’s work defy categorization.  

Much like Joan of Arc, Sylvaine is not a one-woman army without her legionaries. Instead of enlisting members of the folk metal glitterati, she has been a bit more selective about her surprise guests on her album, choosing Scottish violinist Lambert Segura of SAOR and cellist Nostarion aka Patrik Urban, whom she met while performing a very special acoustic show in Belgium in 2019. For Sylvaine, it felt emotionally appropriate to weave classically trained instrumentalists into her work, demonstrated on the last track on the album, "Everything Must Come to an End." 

Unlike so many of the pixie dream girls haunting the American metal landscape right now, Sylvaine sings but also screams from the very depths. There is absolutely no one in the metal game right now who can match her vocal range, which traverses from the elvish sounds of Enya and Lisa Gerard to the black metal Ericthro screeches of her kvlt counterparts of the land of ice and snow. 

In the U.S., we have a tendency to clarify bedroom pop as music that is composed in the feminine space of one’s bedroom confines. Although orchestral and incredibly composed, Sylvaine does not shy away from admitting her songs always start bare bones—almost all of her compositions begin with an unplugged electric guitar. “A melody and a chord progression should be able to stand on its own without any effects whatsoever. The song will go on to manifest itself in different ways but that main guitar part has to be solid enough to emotionally work just by itself, “ she says.  

But to this lover of Verlaine and the French Romantic poets (as well as a diehard Type O Negative fan), the written word is still paramount to her heart. After all, she explains, “Music is an attempt to avoid the words we can’t always express in life.”

Reigning ACM Entertainer of the Year and passionate champion of rescue animals Miranda Lambert announces the formation of the MuttNation Foundation and Tractor Supply Company “Relief For Rescues Fund,” a new animal emergency response program. Palomino, the eighth solo album from Vanner Records/RCA Nashville superstar Miranda Lambert, arrived in April 2022 as the highest debuting Country album of the year and earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Country Album. The most decorated artist in the history of the Academy of Country Music, Lambert has earned 38 ACM Awards (including a record-setting nine consecutive Female Artist of the Year Awards), 14 CMA Awards, three GRAMMY Awards, the Nashville Symphony Harmony Award, ACM Gene Weed Milestone Award and ACM Song of the Decade Award, plus was named 2019’s RIAA Artist of the Year and was the youngest artist ever to serve as the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum’s Artist in Residence.
