Manchester synthwave artist Richard Evans presents retro-futuristic 'Dream of the World' EP, inspired by a close brush with mortality

"A beautiful performance" ~ The Guardian

"While new wave has been around for quite some time, Richard Evans cleverly summons all the best elements of the genre, tastefully packaging them with thoughtful lyrics in a way that is completely fresh and forever young" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Commendable, not only for its allure and catchiness (with elements of Rational Youth, Pet Shop Boys and Jean-Michel Jarre), but also for taking on such topical subject matter as technogenic disaster, environmental devastation and our skewed outlook on our dire prospects as Earth's inhabitants" ~ Ampify Music Magazine

"A standout musical event" ~ The State of the Arts

Manchester-based synthwave artist
Richard Evans presents his new retro-futuristic EP 'Dream of the World', released via Cold Star Media. Recorded at Cold Star Studios in July 2023, the inspiring title track is about remaining positive even in the darkest times, as reflected in the accompanying video.

A British-Irish electronic musician, writer and digital media artist, Evans was previously keyboardist in UK cult band
James, with whom he also co-wrote and recorded material. Previous to that, he was also guitarist and songwriter for St. Vitus Dancers.

Richard Evans' draws inspiration from real-world science, exploring biotechnology, machine intelligence and the environment. For this album, existing songs were refined and new material was written, combining the warmth of classic synths with pared-down lyrics that explore real-world subject matter.

This
3-track EP follows Evans' 2022 debut record 'Sentinel'. This electro-pop concept album explores micro-plastics, gene editing, stardust, technogenic disasters, human evolution, among other themes, this superb eight-track collection telling the story of humanity at a tipping point and a world trapped in a climate crisis.

"'Dream Of The World' is a call to action in the face of an unrelenting climate crisis and, on a personal level, it reflects on a health situation that affected me in late 2022. I was diagnosed with Miller Fisher Syndrome, a rare auto-immune disorder that impacts around one in a million people each year and is a variant of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. I found parallels between the life-threatening aspects of the climate crisis and a condition which decimated nearly all of my body’s functions," says Richard Evans.

"I literally woke up one morning in the midst of losing all muscle control. Over the course of a single day, I became unable to open my eyes, to sit, stand or walk, even to eat or swallow food. I was hospitalised for a month and for the first 10 days of this stay, there was a real risk of respiratory failure. Alongside a treatment plan, I kept going with positive visualisations, mentally depicting future times when I would be well again. If nothing else, this practice helped me find the strength to endure the most challenging experience of my life."

Evans adds, "Once I was released from hospital, music became an important part of my recovery - learning to sing and play keyboards again helped me regain control of my arms, hands and facial muscles. For a long time I had double vision and didn’t have the concentration to work on a computer. However I could play piano for short periods and was able to resume some vocal work after a couple of months. This phase created an unexpected change in my writing process, which previously was built around riffs and sequences developed on a computer. 'Dream Of The World' was composed entirely with piano and voice."

Continuing on from the 'Sentinel' album, the song
'Dream Of The World' reflects how the climate emergency is met with procrastination and indifference from most governments and corporations, as if the switch to zero carbon is somehow beyond human control. The lyrics are also about facing mortality on a personal level, with Evans singing, "I won’t bow to the hand of fate", emphasizing that we don’t always have to accept the hand we’re dealt.

With the sonically hypnotic effect of its single sequence and drum pattern,
'2084' is about those who deny science and convince others of a different reality, underscored by the lyris "Hear the priests lie that black is white".

'Motherlode' is a previously unreleased track, recorded during the 'Sentinel' sessions in 2021. It's about the phenomena of algorithmic trading - flash trades - and how ‘the market’ advances in cities worldwide each day to relentlessly exploit planetary resources.

Richard Evans' output extends well beyond the musical realm. He recently received a New Ideas Fund award from Creative UK to develop a virtual production studio. The award supports content for future stage shows and a new sci-fi short film, called 'DeepSleep', which was written and directed by Richard and is due for release in 2024.

Since the early 1980s, Evans' independent creative projects have received nine awards from Arts Council England and a separate one from Creative England, in addition to being commissioned for various projects by the University of Manchester and the Manchester Science Festival.

Evans also wrote, directed and produced
the science fiction drama 'AEON'. An author of many short stories, he also published the novel 'KOSMONAUT ZERO' (via Dead Ink), researched at Star City Cosmonaut Training Centre. He also oversaw the 'Gagarin 50' exhibition for the 50th anniversary of the first human spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin.

As of October 17, 'Dream of the World' is available
everywhere online and can be obtained directly from the artist via Bandcamp, where the 'Sentinel' album can also be obtained.

On Thursday, November 23, Richard will perform extracts from 'Sentinel' at the Prism Winter Festival at Waterside, Sale, Manchester. Recordings of the live performance will then feature throughout the festival on November 24 and 25. This first outdoor presentation of 'Sentinel' involves the visuals being projected onto the exterior of the Waterside building.

Beartooth Release Fifth Album 'The Surface' + Share "I Was Alive" Video + Announce 2024 World Tour

"Heartfelt and exhilarating" — Ones to Watch

"Without question, it's the most anthemic they've ever sounded" — Metal Hammer

"A definitive conclusion to the band's remarkable first era" — Kerrang!

Gold-selling, billion-streaming rock band BEARTOOTH — Caleb Shomo, vocals; Zach Huston, guitars; Will Deely, guitars; Oshie Bichar, bass; and Connor Denis, drums — released their fifth album The Surface on Friday, October 13 via Red Bull Records. Get it
here.

Also, watch the video for "I Was Alive," which Shomo says is "about the fact that none of this lasts forever and we get one ride on this crazy journey we're on, so we've got to give it everything we've got,".

Like its predecessors, The Surface is an intensely personal and powerful journey for Shomo, who has never shied away from sharing his demons in his music and with his fans. However, the frontman has turned a corner with a more optimistic outlook and demonstrates exceptional growth as both an artist and a human being through the songs that comprise the album.

"This album is the end of the story of a very important decade of my life and that was my 20s," the frontman shares. "It's been very up and down, sometimes more down than up. But as of right now, I have decided that since life is short, I want to focus on the positives. Sometimes all you need is some hard work to show you what you need to do with your life to be happy. Hopefully this album can inspire people to take control of their own lives in any way they desire."

The album has been one of the most successful of the band's already impressive career, with the four pre-release tracks accumulating 65 million total streams and ascending the radio charts. "Might Love Myself" continues to climb and is currently at #8 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock National Airplay and #6 on the Top 40 Active Rock charts.

Additionally, Beartooth have announced an extensive North American headline tour to precede their EU/UK dates next fall. They'll hit the road with The Plot In You, Invent Animate, and Sleep Theory from January to March, bringing the new record to over 40 cities across North America. Global dates are below. Get tickets here, with the North American pre-sale kicking off today and general sale on Friday, October 20.

"I cannot wait to get back on tour and play a bunch of new songs for a bunch of amazing fans. We get to take out three awesome bands doing great things for the scene. We're gonna play loud, hot, and fast, and serve up all the new stuff like you've never seen before," says Shomo.

The band will also appear at the 2024 edition of ShipRocked.

ABOUT BEARTOOTH:
Caleb Shomo first turned the pain of his struggle with mental health and self-image into music in 2013. Beartooth began as a living document, a diary, a journal of repressed rage and depression. Alone in his basement studio, screaming and singing, playing all the instruments, and self-producing a batch of furious but melodic songs filled with reflection and confession, the Ohio native stared into the abyss, initially with no intention of returning to the heavy music world that burned him as a teen. A decade later, the different pieces of his body of work connect in title, sound, and spirit. As the frontman hits 30, Beartooth’s fifth album, he Surface, completes this era in 2023. Even more importantly, it kicks off a new chapter filled with surprising optimism and just as honest. Depression is a sick, disgusting, aggressive disease below the surface. Shomo stands ready to bask in the light.

Like Nine Inch Nails, Beartooth remains a one-person band in the studio. On the heels of the introductory Sick EP (2013), Disgusting (2014) produced the band's first Gold single, "In Between." Aggressive (2016) and Disease (2018) expanded on the desperation and pain, each a step closer to a balance between the blood and tears of classic recordings and the shimmer of modernity.

Rolling Stone heralded Beartooth as one of 10 Artists You Need to Know. The rabid response to Shomo's music demonstrated how many people related to his struggle for self-acceptance. Below (2021) topped the Rock and Alternative charts and several Best Rock/Metal Albums of the Year lists. As of 2023, the Beartooth catalog boasts more than 1 billion streams across all platforms.

Beartooth began as both bomb and balm, an outright refusal to suffer in silence, weaponizing radio-ready bombast, delivering raw emotion mixed with noise-rock chaos. Other bands play the "devastating riffs and catchy hooks" game, but this music is the difference between life and death, and now, a sort of life after death while still here. The band Forbes sees "inching towards a tipping point of becoming the latest arena headliner" is now one step closer

HARD ROCKERS SVEN GALI RETURN WITH EXPLOSIVE COMEBACK ALBUM BOMBS & BATTLE SCARS

SVEN GALI's trademark blend of heavy riffs, gritty vocals, and anthemic melodies span decades. Cutting their teeth in the bar circuit of Southern Ontario, Canada in the late 80’s, SVEN GALI’s live show was a full on circus of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.

Emerging with a record deal with BMG, SVEN GALI released their debut self-titled release in 1992. From the first chord of “Under The Influence” SVEN GALI made their mark. Follow up singles “Tie Dyed Skies” and “In My Garden” paved the way for the ballad number 6 CanCon song of 1993 that also went Top 10 nationwide, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.” As the album went Gold, SVEN GALI won the MuchMusic Best Metal Video Award in 1993 for “Under The Influence” and was nominated for two Junos. With a worldwide release, SVEN GALI toured with the likes of Def Leppard, Foreigner and April Wine.

SVEN GALI’s follow-up, Inwire, was partly recorded in in Seattle with producer Kelly Gray and saw the band take on a more alternative experimental tone. The band broke up soon after the album’s release and played sporadic shows before solidifying a new lineup with original members Dave Wanless (vocals), Andy Frank (guitar) and TT (bass) bringing in guitarist Sean Williamson and drummer Dan Fila from former BMG labelmates Varga.

SVEN GALI’s new release Bombs & Battlescars through Canadian label, Music In Motion Ent, combines the best of both SVEN GALI eras. The album contains five new originals. “One Gun” is a relentless driver that sets the battlefield ablaze with its blistering guitar work and commanding vocals. The massive groove of “Coming Home” and fierce anthem “Monster” showcase Sven Gali's unapologetic attitude while the sonic prowess of “Life Inside” stands side by side with any current alternative metal peers. Closer “Nothing New” showcases the melodic side of the band with a catchy acoustic groove.

Bombs & Battlescars also brings the band full circle with a cover of Triumph’s “Spellbound.” Recorded at Toronto’s Metalworks studio where many of SVEN GALI’s early songs were recorded and demoed, acclaimed Coney Hatch frontman Andy Curran produced the track bringing the song into the modern age. Triumph drummer Gil Moore also appears in the video. The album is filled out with three remastered unreleased tracks from the band’s 90’s recording vault.

SVEN GALI celebrates the Canadian release of Bombs & Battlescars on Friday, October 13, 2024 for both physical and streaming. Videos for “One Gun” and “Monster” are presently available online. The band’s third single, “Coming Home,” is set to coincide with the international release of Bombs & Battlescars on Feb 02, 2024. This date will also feature the debut of “Coming Home” mixed in Dolby Atmos (courtesy of Iguana Studios in Toronto ON) along with a new video for the single.

Bombs & Battle scars on CD and limited edition army green vinyl are available through retail. Signed CDs and LPs are available through their web store. Watch for the Record Store Day release of Sven Gali’s 1992 debut on marble purple vinyl on November 24, 2024.

Since their formation in 2012, the band has embarked on a relentless quest to push the limits of their craft, creating a unique and mesmerizing brand of melancholic metal that resonates with fans from all corners of the metal spectrum. Brace yourself for a sonic journey that transports you to a realm where beauty and brutality coexist, where haunting melodies intertwine with savage screams, and where the boundaries of metal are shattered. The album is available in physical formats and on all major streaming platforms.

Listen to the album's opening track "Surussa Uinuva" below.

Kaunis Kuolematon on "Surussa Uinuva":

"Surussa Uinuva is a track about loathing in melancholy and / or depression. The more you give to it, the more it takes. Keeping mental gaze locked in positive is the true minds reign - the soundtrack is deliberately quite fast paced indulged with anxious movement and arrangement that describes well the struggle or escape to a more balanced mindset. The question in this song "who will wake up the one quiescent in sorrow" - that is the one experiencing it, keeping in mind that circumstances may create a bubble that sometimes needs to be popped from outside. So the point is that even depression can be a personal reaction to extrapersonal conditions that needs to be sorted oneself, so let‘s make this life better for everyone and keep in mind that the burden is not always seen from the outside, so comprehension or compassion without direct interference goes a long way also."

With their latest album Syttyköön Toinen Aurinko, featuring lyrics entirely in Finnish, Kaunis Kuolematon has already left an indelible mark on the scene, garnering praise from fans and critics alike. With their new album Mielenvalta the band's development reaches new heights, promising an immersive experience that will leave you breathless. Since our inception, we have always strived for musical excellence and growth. 'Insomnia' is, without a doubt, our fastest and heaviest offering to date. This new direction we've taken is exhilarating for us, and we believe our fans will feel the raw energy and dedication emanating from every track."

Blending death metal, deathcore, and ambitious instrumentation, “The Art of War” highlights the band’s continued progression to more extreme territory. Matching warp speed riffage with orchestral electronic textures, the single exemplifies THE VOYNICH CODE's uncompromising vision.

Since emerging in 2014 with debut single “Antithesis”, the band has built a dedicated fanbase and earned critical praise, including comparisons to genre leaders like Thy Art Is Murder.

Their crushing 2017 debut LP “Aqua Vitae” provided opportunity for extensive European tours, festival appearances, and a headlining tour of Japan and Asia. Now signed to Unique Leader Records, THE VOYNICH CODE is poised for their biggest milestone yet with “Insomnia”.

Deep-diving on 'Insomnia', the band share

"Our new album, Insomnia, is a harrowing journey into the darkest recesses of sleep-deprivation and its unrelenting grip on life. Our lyrics delve into the nightmarish realms of disrupted rest. This album paints a vivid tapestry of how sleep problems can wreak havoc on the sanctity of the human experience. Collaborating with Caelan Stokkermans, our artwork resurrects the enigmatic Hypnos, the Greek god of sleep, characterized by the emblematic wing at his temple. The haunting asp, echoing Cleopatra's tragic end, seamlessly meshes with the chalice and nightingale motifs, drawing from the ancient Greek Cyranides. It's a tale of a sleep god cursed with endless wakefulness, desperately seeking relief in poison as the world crumbles around him. This album, crafted over three arduous years, is our most ferocious yet—marked by blazing guitar riffs, unyielding blast beats, and a sweeping orchestration that pushes the boundaries of death metal and deathcore. The backing from Unique Leader Records has been instrumental, and we eagerly await to finally bring you new music coming out October 13th."

Darius Rucker Performs on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” as New Album 'Carolyn’s Boy' Connects

With the Tennessean highlighting “his best comprehensive country music work” on brand new album Carolyn’s Boy, Darius Rucker celebrated its release with a rousing performance of “Have A Good Time” on last night’s episode of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” Watch Below and listen to the full project HERE.

Rucker considers the album, his sixth country project and first since 2017, to be his most personal to date, something he credits to taking the past six years to hone the songs and, in turn, reestablishing his passion for making music.

“The album’s meat involves Rucker finally getting to the core of country’s stereotypical three chords and the truth,” acknowledges the Tennessean of that process, with Rucker explaining, “I had a lot of therapy with myself on this record, which allows me to show the world how much I view making music, internally, as a therapeutic outlet for saying what I feel and think.”

“For Carolyn’s Boy, I talked to some of the best songwriters in town about so many of my authentically lived experiences,” he continues. “I feel like I’m finally comfortable doing what I’m supposed to do as a country music artist.”

Named for his late mother, Carolyn, who encouraged his love of country music from a young age, the album pays tribute to the woman whom Rucker told Willie Geist on this week’s “Sunday TODAY” is the reason for everything he is; “She taught us to be nice, she taught us to care, she taught us to give back, she taught us to always be the best person you can be.”

“Now that I’m a dad, three times over with grown kids, I just wanted to pay tribute to my mom who never got to see any of this stuff, any of this success,” he explained to the Associated Press, noting that – while there are somber moments – he hopes the project as a whole epitomizes her joyful personality: “it should sound like a celebration.”

“The thing I love is seeing her picture,” Rucker noted to Forbes of the album’s cover. “She’s 25 in that photo and it’s my favorite picture of her. Having my record named after her, and having her photo all over social media, I love it. I know she’s somewhere laughing and saying, ‘Boy, stop!’”

From recent No. 1 hit “Beers And Sunshine,” his 10th to top the Country charts, to current single “Fires Don’t Start Themselves,” lauded by Billboard for “the impressive vocal control and power in his lower register,” and his latest release, “Southern Comfort,” described by Garden & Gun as “evok[ing] a wistful nostalgia that has become one of Rucker’s calling cards,” the project honoring Carolyn Rucker features 14 tracks, 11 of which boast Rucker as a cowriter.

Some of the notable cowriters joining him on the project include global superstar Ed Sheeran for the reflective “Sara,” penned during a trip to London and celebrated by People as “a mid-tempo rumination on the hopes of seeking friendship and comfort in a long-lost connection;” reigning ACM Artist/Songwriter of the Year HARDY for the longing “3am in Carolina;” longtime friend and Lady A vocalist Charles Kelley for the despairing “7 days;” and Brothers Osborne’s John Osborne on “Never Been Over,” with Billboard noting Rucker “sings expertly on this track… bolstered by discreet, serene pedal steel and mandolin.”

In addition, the album sees Rucker join forces with Chapel Hart for the collaborative “Ol’ Church Hymn” while also offering his take on Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from blockbuster film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, with MusicRow summarizing his rendition as “beautifully produced, spiritually uplifting and soul stirring. It builds to anthem-level intensity before receding into an intimate prayer. Essential.”

The album also features vulnerably insightful songs such as “Sure Would Have Loved Her,” “Stargazing,” while offering uplifting reminders to a divided world on tracks such as “In This Together,” “Same Beer Different Problem” and “Have A Good Time.”

Having shared the new music with fans across the country all summer on his
Starting Fires Tour, which concludes its North American stretch tomorrow evening in Nashville, Rucker is also gearing up to take his wide-ranging catalog of hits across the pond with a recently announced run of European tour dates in early 2024.

San Francisco's OCTAVIAN WINTERS release debut EP 'The Line or Curve', oscillating between shadow and shimmer

"Capturing progressive sounds and thoughts, weaving them together in a dark and lush tapestry of near-classic post-punk, oscillating between shadow and shimmer. Reflecting the troubled times that we live in, sublime dark sonic delight" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Feels like it was recorded in a studio deep beneath the earth, drawing power from subterranean caves and bubbling magma. There’s tectonic thunder in the pounding drums and rumbling bass... Such power, strong and true, a voice that scales the wall of sound beneath her with ease" ~ Joyzine

"A dark musical weave forged of post-punk and gothic strands. A sonic web that is a neat blend of pulsing bass grooves and shaded ethereality, dark and delicious guitar slashes, and haunting sound washes" ~ The Big Takeover

"Seriously compelling incitement, which Aursjoen’s tones and the electronically atmospheric mists around her only escalate" ~ Ringmaster Review

San Francisco post-punk outfit
Octavian Winters presents their debut album 'The Line or Curve', released via Stratis Capta Records with 'Velveteen' as the focus track. The band has also released a video for the latest single 'Surreal'.

Born into the ghostly isolation of San Francisco in 2022 and drawing from darkwave and post-punk traditions, Octavian Winters dives into the ethereal, their layered music counterpointing edged grooves alongside lush synth textures and soaring vocal harmonies. In the lead up to the album, the band released the singles
'Undertow' and 'Ondine'.

Recorded in San Francisco by
Mark Pistel (Meat Beat Manifesto, Consolidated) at OW Studio and Room 5 Recording, this EP was produced by Octavian Winters and William Faith (The Bellwether Syndicate, Faith and the Muse, Christian Death, The March Violets), whose credits include Jarboe, Clan of Xymox, Bootblacks and Autumn, Faith also mixed and mastered the album at 13 Studio in Chicago.

Octavian Winters is guitarist Stephan Salit (Thrill of The Pull), drummer Randy Gzebb (Thrill of The PullLove Club,), bassist Jay Denton and Ria (Amenti) Aursjoen on vocals and keyboards. Together, they weave their visceral and ethereal sound into a texture all its own – of stories once told but half-remembered, under a dusk of shadows and stars, in an abandoned city under the winter moon.

“This record is very special to me as this was a totally different experience – putting a group of well-respected musicians together and starting the writing process in the middle of a pandemic, when the world was in isolation and in a state of shock. I think the whole feeling with everyone working ideas out together produced a special vibe when we got together and started writing the songs. I would start off with a drum groove and everyone started adding their ideas. After working out the ideas out with little back and forth, we started recording demos, which sounded like finished tracks without the polish you get when tracks a have been through the mixing phase,” says Randy Gzebb.

“This record is a powerful mix of ethereal, shoegaze and darkwave genres, which came naturally when we started writing the record. Each song has a slightly different feel from start to finish. The opening track ‘Ondine’ opens the record to both prepare and excite the listener, summing the emotions and leaving some of what’s coming to the imagination. There are many shades of music here. Everything is so richly textured and weaves through this ethereal powerful element.”

This album is about coming to terms with isolation and loss in various forms, touching on themes that the whole world has dealt with face to face for the past few years – feelings and repercussions that have left a deep imprint on all of us. The music and lyrics are a natural extension of these emotions and thoughts, bubbling under the surface.

“The name of the record – ‘The Line or Curve’ – references the idea of symbols and sigils, which are intricate collections of lines and curves. They are expressions, arrangements or gateways of energy and if correctly drawn they may invoke and transform. But the configuration of lines and curves is vital; if not right, a sigil is useless and has no power. So at each point you are choosing whether to draw a line, or a curve,” says Ria Aursjoen.

“But it is also metaphor for the choice we have of our world view. It references geometries. In one geometric system the shortest path is a line. But in a curved space the shortest path is a curve. We can describe the world through either geometry. So, which way of looking at the world do we choose?  This brings us back to the theme of separation and disconnection; the past few years have unearthed such deep divides over different world views that there is often no desire to attempt reconnection. My hope is that we will come to appreciate the common shapes expressed in our different geometries, our different world views.”

Each member of Octavian Winters brings their own rich musical tapestry to the collective and have shared the stage with many iconic acts over the years, including Nine Inch Nails, Killing Joke, Lords of the New Church, Savage Republic, Christian Death, The Frozen Autumn, Everything Goes Cold and Black Tape for a Blue Girl.

'The Line or Curve' EP is out digitally on October 13, including via
Apple MusicSpotify and Bandcamp. On October 31, they play San Francisco's Bottom of The Hill (with Dead Souls and The Reptile House) and Sacramento's Cafe Colonial (with Ashes Fallen) on November 8.

HourHouse Announce "Gold Tooth Guru" Album + Share "LSD" Video

NOLA-based genre-smashers HourHouse know all about the hard graft and building something from nothing.

Raised in an array of Louisiana parishes circling New Orleans, the quintet — vocalist Milly, guitarist and vocalist Nick "Neeco" Trahan, drummer Robb Barrio, bassist Travvy Thomas, and guitarist Mattie Cortopassi — found their way to each other via shared loves of (depending on who you ask) nu metal and hip-hop, horror films and country music, anime and streetwear, skateboarding and NFL, Meshuggah and…. Nickelback. A diverse buffet of influence, some might even say a mismatch, but it's this very diversity that forms the creative heart beating at HourHouse's very core.

Today, the band announces its debut album GOLD TOOTH GURU, which arrives November 10 via UNFD. Pre-save it
here.

HourHouse also shared the video for "LSD." Watch it
below and stick around to find out what happens after an epic (Hour)House Party!

"Nothing is what it seems. You control everything just look inside yourself," says Milly about the song and visual.

It's got all the swagger and style, the riffs and the rhymes — just like the rest of the album, which is full of crunchy, buzzsaw guitar attacks, plate-shifting breakdowns, trap beats, and 808 grooves. Keeping on top of it all, lead vocalist Milly oscillates effortlessly between raw, untamed bellows and spitting head spinning bars of complex rhyme, while his "podna"-in-crime Neeco comes correct with a whiskey-soaked throat that is shaded with as much Nashville as it is '90s Seattle. Yep, spend just a couple of minute with the HH "mob" and you'll be want to namedrop everyone from Meshuggah, Korn and Linkin Park to Kendrick, $uicideboy$, and Post Malone.

Milly notes that their hometown functions like a sixth member of the band due to the way the region and culture factor into their sound, stating, "Louisiana plays a heavy role into our sound and direction of the album — it's like a huge melting pot down here, different music everywhere you turn. Rap and metal are big here especially. We never wanted to box ourselves in with trying to be a certain type of band and only make one type of music."

The same applies to the subject matter and lyrical content.

Milly continues, "Our surroundings play a big part in the content. It may be out of the ordinary compared to most bands, but it’s all we've known. It's everything we’ve been brought up seeing and living through — it's not just Mardi Gras and voodoo down here, it can be a real warzone. The main themes are unity, determination, and staying true to yourself no matter what you go through. Hard times make strong people but sometimes those hard times feel like it's all you can see in front of you. Life for young people like us is constant highs and lows, and this album is sort of our way of navigating through it all."

Pete International Airport releases 'Tic Tac' 7" vinyl version feat. Slowdive's Rachel Goswell - * PIA's new album 'It Felt Like the End of the World' is out now

Portland-based Pete International Airport has released 'Tic Tac' 7" vinyl version via Little Cloud Records, pressed on translucent yellow vinyl.  Featuring Slowdive goddess Rachel Goswell as both vocalist and co-writer, the single is complemented by a remix by the iconic Anton Newcombe (The Brian Jonestown Massacre) as the B-side.

Pete International Airport is the brainchild of guitarist Peter G. Holmström of
The Dandy Warhols.  Named after one of their songs, this eclectic project builds immersive soundscapes that are also classic, catchy songs.  Holmström has an uncanny ability to curate, with a penchant for dropping collaborators into challenging creative spaces—both virtual and actual—then letting them duke it out.

'Tic Tac' is lifted from PIA's recently released third album
'It Felt Like The End of the World' - a meticulously crafted psychedelic rock journey into the dark heart of electronica.

"I co-wrote 'Tic Tac'. I bought his last album and I really liked it. Peter Holmström has different singers on each song and co-writes with everybody, which I think is a really interesting way to work. Obviously, Pete is a guitarist, first and foremost, and a very good one. He sent me music for 'Tic Tac, and it's actually changed a lot. It was a lot more guitar-y, the original musical piece that he sent me, and it got really stripped down and changed," says Rachel Goswell.

"I think he sent me that in 2020. That was a COVID lockdown year and I had a lot of stuff going on. It took me I think nearly about a year to actually get around to sitting down properly and writing it. I kept procrastinating about doing it and then once I'd done it, I was really pleased with it. But I think as a record, there's some great songs on it. I didn't know who else had written with him on this record, I was just really happy to be a part of it. It is quite a broad spectrum musically, and quite eclectic."

This album features numerous other guests, including Alexander Hackett (Pang Attack) Lisa Elle (Dark Horses), Dion Lunadon (A Place To Bury Strangers, The D4), and Cheap Trick's Tom Petersson on 12-string bass, each tangling with PIA’s usual coterie of musical foils with songs merging into Holmström’s hyper-stylized world of symbols, themes and archetypes.

Mixed by Jeremy Sherrer at
Spooky Electric Co. (Modest Mouse, The Shins, The Dandy Warhols), it was mastered by Dave Coley at Elysian Mastering.

'It Felt Like The End of the World' is available from fine digital platforms, such as
SpotifyApple Music and Bandcamp, where it is also available on CD and a Deluxe double-album in a gatefold sleeve, pressed on transparent vinyl with an orange blob or on transparent vinyl with a purple blob.

The 'Tic Tac' 7" release is available exclusively via
Pete International Airport's Bandcamp, and also via The Dandy Warhols.

Toronto's Rising Star Alyssa Rose Hunt Releases Captivating Music Video for "Way Back" from Her Latest Album Magnetic Muse Chapter 1

Toronto-based artist, Alyssa Rose Hunt, has released the official music video for “Way Back,” a track featured on her recently unveiled album, Magnetic Muse Chapter 1. The music video, a visual masterpiece inspired by the pure joy of artistic expression, is a reflection of Alyssa’s passion for her craft. "I wanted it to be a video where I'm having fun singing and dancing to the music. Everytime I hear this song, all I want to do is dance" she says.

For Alyssa Rose Hunt, the creation of the "Way Back" music video was an intensely personal journey. As she sang and danced to the captivating tune, it became a means of self-affirmation amidst the challenges of self-doubt and industry pressures. "Coming from a dance background of 19 years, it's become a huge part of my identity. I dance to tell a story, as a form of therapy, and to just have fun" she confides. Alyssaincorporated an orange themed outfit to initiate the yang energy of the album, and the video was shot in an abandoned warehouse to symbolize bringing the old and new together - much like the theme of Magnetic Muse Chapter 1.

"Way Back" goes beyond its lyrics about a past-life lover; it delves into the profound sensation of meeting someone who feels inexplicably familiar, as if they have crossed your path in a previous existence. These lyrics evoke the longing to understand the purpose of this connection in the present life, and whether destiny has intertwined your paths once more. Alyssa Rose Hunt's music has always been an avenue for genuine self-expression, and "Way Back" is a testament to her unwavering commitment to her artistic path. This captivating music video is a visual celebration of her journey, her music, and the power of self-acceptance.

MORE INFO:
Alyssa Rose Hunt, hailing from Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, is a gifted singer-songwriter whose music effortlessly spans the genres of R&B, Soul, Blues, Jazz, and Pop. Her compositions are a heartfelt expression of her innermost thoughts and emotions, brought to life by soulful instruments that narrate her stories. Alyssa’s lyrics are raw, authentic, and vulnerable, immersing audiences in a world of genuine emotions and sensations. Alyssa Rose Hunt's journey as a singer-songwriter has been marked by challenges, including the search for her unique voice and sound, overcoming self-doubt, and navigating the industry's pressures as a female artist. Through it all, she has remained true to herself, using her music as a medium to connect with her audience on a deeper level, transcending mere entertainment.

Her recently released album, Magnetic Muse Chapter 1, is a two-part alternative R&B/Soul album that symbolizes the yin and yang of musical expression. Magnetic Muse Chapter 1 serves as the yang chapter, characterized by bold instrumentation and lyrics that explore the initiation of romantic pursuits. Alyssa Rose Hunt's magnetic sound is a fusion of old and new, skillfully blending soulful elements to create an edgy and chill vibe that resonates deeply with listeners. The album features a rich ensemble of live instruments, including drums, keyboard, guitar, and saxophone, ensuring a raw and authentic musical experience. The album opens with "Trapped In My Head," a song that explores the intricate feelings associated with an emerging romantic connection. It's a deeply personal piece where Alyssa Rose Hunt sings to herself, contemplating whether to confess her emotions. With a slower tempo and live instruments, this track sets the tone for the profound storytelling that characterizes the entire album. Another standout track of this album is "You," a soul-stirring composition that delves into the desire to be with someone so profoundly that solitude pales in comparison. Drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Amy Winehouse, "You" embodies a bluesy soul vibe with a mix of old-school and contemporary sounds. This track, positioned as the second song on the album, takes listeners on a rollercoaster

journey with its dynamic contrasts, creating an authentic and emotionally charged musical narrative.

The recording process took place over the course of several weeks with producer Jason Suecof in Florida and saw the return of live drums since COVID-19 restrictions made doing so on Graveside Confessions impossible. Mastered by Mark Lewis in Nashville, TN, the album was also co-produced by vocalist Scott Ian Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron. The cover artwork glows with an emerald and lavender fog; a ghostly energy erupting from the depths of a cemetery. Designed by renowned comic book artist E.M. Gist, this gateway represents the questions we ask about what lies on the other side of reality.

Decades ago, wealthy intellectuals began installing psychomanteum in their homes; a secret room completely filled with mirrors, or a single mirror, and in complete darkness, in order to speak to the dead in other dimensions, and gain their knowledge. It was often used as a healing tool to help dissolve grief or considered a form of prophecy. Necromanteumpresents the concept: What if you could use that kind of room to speak with death, itself? What secrets of the world could you uncover from a direct conversation with the grim reaper? Not a monster, but a fellow intellect.

Necromanteum is available digitally and in the following formats:

  • CD Jewel

  • Vinyl

    • Neon Green w/ Purple Splatter

CAROLYN’S BOY, OUT NOW

HERE

Tune in to NBC This Weekend as He Joins Willie Geist for a
“Sunday TODAY” Exclusive
& “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” Next Thursday, Oct. 10 for a New Music Performance

PEOPLE Feature on Stands Now:
“He’s won three GRAMMYs and sold millions of records, but when Darius Rucker was growing up in Charleston, S.C., he wasn’t the best singer in his house—his mother, Carolyn, was.”

Having continuously teased new music as he put the finishing touches on his first solo project in six years, three-time GRAMMY winner Darius Rucker now unveils the highly anticipated final project with today’s release of Carolyn’s Boy. Praised by People in the issue on stands today for having “never left his humble roots in the rear view,” Rucker named the album as an homage to his late mother, a woman he celebrates as the sole reason for “who I am, how I am, what I am.” Listen HERE.

“She believed in me more than I believed in myself,” he shared with Jan Crawford on today’s “CBS Mornings.” “She’d tell me all the time, ‘you’re gonna make it; you’re gonna live your dream. I know you are. I can’t wait.’”

Rucker will further discuss the album and his mother’s influence on this weekend’s episode of “Sunday TODAY” via
an exclusive interview with Willie Geist on NBC (check local listings), before bringing a feel-good performance of album track “Have A Good Time” to CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 11:35 p.m. / 10:35 p.m. CT.

The series of television appearances continues what has already been a celebratory week for Rucker, including his induction on the Music City Walk of Fame this Wednesday, Oct. 4, and an intimiate performance that evening at Analog at the Hutton Hotel, taped to air as part of PBS’s “Recorded Live at Analog” series debuting in early 2024.

Captivating audiences with what Billboard praises as “one of the most distinctive voices of country’s modern era” Rucker describes the album six years in the making as his favorite he’s ever released, as Garden & Gun declares, “Carolyn’s Boycontains some of the most emotional, vulnerable music of Rucker’s career” with MusicRow adding that it offers “a beautiful blend of feel-good, fun tunes and deeper, moving numbers.”

From recent No. 1 hit “Beers And Sunshine,” his 10th to top the Country charts and what he describes as a perfect summary of Carolyn’s joyful personality, to current single “Fires Don’t Start Themselves,” lauded by Billboard for “the impressive vocal control and power in his lower register,” and his latest release, “Southern Comfort,” described by Garden & Gun as “evok[ing] a wistful nostalgia that has become one of Rucker’s calling cards,” the project features 14 tracks, 11 of which boast Rucker as a cowriter.

Some of the notable cowriters joining him on the project include global superstar Ed Sheeran for the reflective “Sara,” penned during a trip to London and celebrated by People as “a mid-tempo rumination on the hopes of seeking friendship and comfort in a long-lost connection;” reigning ACM Artist/Songwriter of the Year HARDY for the longing “3am in Carolina;” and longtime friend and Lady A vocalist Charles Kelley for the despairing “7 days.”

Essential.”

The album offers vulnerably insightful songs such as “Sure Would Have Loved Her,” “Stargazing” and “Never Been Over,” lauded by Garden & Gun in yesterday’s
exclusive premiere as “[one] of the album’s highlights,” while also offering uplifting reminders to a divided world on tracks such as “In This Together,” “Same Beer Different Problem” and “Have A Good Time.”

In all, the album demonstrates what the Tennessean praises as Rucker’s “Southernness and soulfulness [which] occupy a uniquely American creative identity. His material caresses, not straddles, the intersections of pop’s unique variants.”

Rucker will also celebrate the release of his new album during the second year of his personally curated Riverfront Revival Music Festival this weekend in his hometown of Charleston, S.C. In addition to Rucker himself, fans will be treated to performances by Turnpike Troubadours, Lainey Wilson, Band of Horses and more. View the full lineup and daily schedule

Having shared the new music with fans across the country all summer on his
Starting Fires Tour, Rucker is also gearing up to take his wide-ranging catalog of hits across the pond with a recently announced run of European tour dates in early 2024.

SVALBARD - new album 'The Weight Of The Mask' is out now

Today, Svalbard are proud to release their breathtaking new studio album, The Weight Of The Mask. Uncompromising and highly charged, the record spans themes intrinsic to humanity, such as emotional strength and depression, to unrequited love and vulnerability.

The Weight Of The Mask is Svalbard’s most devastatingly raw and beautiful work to date, overflowing with mesmerizing performances from Serena Cherry, Liam Phelan, Mark Lilley, and Matt Francis, transcending boundaries across shoegaze, post-hardcore, black metal, and more.

Serena Cherry stated:
"It feels pretty surreal to be releasing our fourth album today, after spending 2 years writing and recording it. It's so exciting for these songs to be out in the wild, we can't wait to see everyone's reactions to this album!"

The Weight Of The Mask was recorded at The Ranch Production House, UK. The record was produced and mixed by Lewis Johns, with mastering by Grant Berry. Engineering was handled by Lewis Johns, assisted by Matt Janke, with additional editing by Kel Pinchin and Sebastien Sendon.

Svalbard's intention with their music is to make people feel less alone and to be there for people in their darkest times. The Weight Of The Mask bravely lays out experiences of mental illness and depression, hoping to help destigmatize these topics.

SVALBARD will be returning to the EU mainland for six headline show dates this month, which will be followed by a performance at the Cult Of Luna curated Beyond The Redshift event in London and a headline date at The Key Club in Leeds.

Formed in Bristol UK, Svalbard have previously released three studio albums, three EPs and several split releases. Their exceptional last studio album, 2020's When I Die, Will I Get Better? was dubbed by Metal Hammer UK as "the most important British metal record of 2020", with both Metal Hammer and Kerrang! lauding the record as a top 10 album of the year. A career milestone, it cemented Svalbard as a powerful and vital component of our global music scene.

Whilst refining their distinctive blend of euphoric black metal, post-rock, and d-beat, Svalbard have incorporated a few more surprising influences along the way. From soft, mournful singing to progressive guitar leads, it showcases a sensitive dynamic that lends impact to their most crushing moments - of which there are undoubtedly many. There’s no poetry, no ambiguity - just direct, raw honesty as the quartet tackles some very uncomfortable subjects head-on. This is heavy in the most evocative sense of the word. The blunt lyrics are equally as important as the music.

Drums - Mark Lilley
Bass - Matt Francis

Tropic Gold Release "Maniac" Video — WATCH

Suffolk-via-Essex quartet Tropic Gold will release the What A Wonderful Experience EP, via UNFD.

Today, they share the video for "Maniac." Watch it here.

"Maniac" follows recent singles "ADRENALINE" and "DTTTH," and shines a light on "a generation of undiagnosed and mistreated mental health conditions," share the band. "The song lays out how people often think they're going insane and that they're not normal. There's a constant struggle people live with, not knowing why they feel differently to others, and 'Maniac' talks about the attempt to find the alternate inner version of yourself that feels hopeless."

Teasing What A Wonderful Experience, the band explains that the title "can be interpreted in so many ways; it's our most cohesive release yet and we're eager to see how people relate to the songs in different, individual ways."

Get it
here.

Tropic Gold offer up a sleekly modern meld of alternative, metal, pop, and electronica, cajoling their passions for a dynamic culture pool of music and production styles into a single sonic petri dish. Though originally formed in 2019, the quartet have spent years in the lab, developing their sound and strong aesthetics behind the closed doors of a bespoke, self-built multi-media studio. The Tropic Gold method is truly hands on, with guitaristJoshua Leehandling all production and recording duties, as well as diving into the weeds on their visual curation, manning the camera and edit suite as often as the production chair.

Today, with their vision firmly in grasp, the band are ready to move beyond the prologue, and have struck up a partnership with UNFD to bring their soaring, infectious soundscapes to a global audience.

Pairing swathes of moody atmospherics with soaring, ear worm choruses, the band’s songs feel like they would be equally A Vibe™ pulsing across sticky, cramped dance floors as soaring atop airy arenas.

Coming on like a new romantic Bring Me The Horizon or a post breakup Don Broco, who just discovered their parents copy of The Cure'sDisintegration or a 45rpm copy ofSing The Sorrow playing at 33rpm… tl;dr: Tropic Gold are as gloomy as they are catchy.

Sharing a sonic space with the likes of the aforementioned BMTH and Broco, PVRIS, (latter day) Architects, Caskets, Spiritbox's plaintive moments and even Enter Shikari (albeit on Valium), Tropic Gold are just getting started in figuring out how to weaponise their cocktail of slap and swag.

About BLACKBRIAR:

“Some say that there is beauty in darkness - terrifying visitors, worlds far gone, gothic romances, bone-chilling legends, sin-eaters, burning hearts frozen in time, songs with a misleading voice, and a truthful whisper. This and so much more for you to discover on A Dark Euphony.” Such are the words of vocalist Zora Cock about the band’s upcoming sophomore album, set to release in fall 2023 on Nuclear Blast Records. A telling sign coming from a band who has reveled in gothic beauty and metallic darkness since their onset, spanning three EPs and a full-length album, along with long-time collaborator Joost van den Broek.

Formed in 2012 by Zora Cock, René Boxem, Bart Winters, and Frank Akkerman, they crafted their first single in 2014 with 'Ready to Kill,' but it was 2015’s second single 'Until Eternity' that truly propelled them into the scene.  A sweeping track with an equally compelling and beautiful video, it continues to draw many to the act with over 20 million views since its debut. Taking advantage of the growing buzz surrounding the band, they independently recorded and released their first EP, Fractured Fairytales, as well as acquiring a second guitarist in Robin Koezen. This EP laid down an impressive foundation for the band’s ethereal and breathtaking sound and brought about new opportunities for the act, including tour dates in The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and more, where the band played alongside EPICA, HALESTORM, IN THIS MOMENT, DELAIN and MaYan.

To keep moving ahead with full control of their creative ideals, the band successfully crowdfunded their follow-up EP, We’d Rather Burn, and brought it to life in October 2018. This EP would be the first time the band worked alongside esteemed producer Joost van den Broek to arrange and produce the effort, and this fruitful collaboration allowed BLACKBRIAR’s whimsical and enigmatic sound to reach new sonic heights.  Released the same day as their self-made video for 'I’d Rather Burn,' this EP showcased a stronger sense of dreamy atmosphere and brought listeners beautifully grim tales of witches, banshees, and sea sirens.  In the time following, keyboardist Ruben Wijga (ex-Re-Vamp) took a larger role within the band and began playing shows, after being involved in the songwriting process since Fractured Fairytales.

A busy 2019 followed, the band released a haunting single in May entitled 'Snow White and Rose Red.'  A duet with Ulli Perhonen, their take on the Grimm’s fairytale featured striking cinematic visuals to accompany the spellbinding track. Continuing to dig deeper into fairytale realms, BLACKBRIAR closed the year with their third EP, Our Mortal Remains.  Ever-sharpening their intoxicating blend of storytelling and breathtaking musicianship, the EP brought about new live exposures for the act as well.  Small, sold-out tours with EPICA in 2019 and 2020, as well as a sold-out opening for DELAIN’s Apocalypse & Chill release show in Utrecht followed, with more future plans being put on hold due to COVID-19.

Championing their continued independence, which included everything from songwriting, maintaining their web presence, overseeing merch, as well as shooting and producing their own videos and photos, BLACKBRIAR reached out to their ever-growing and loyal fanbase for assistance to make their full-length album a reality in 2020. Fans fervently heeded the call, reaching the € 25,000 goal in under 24 hours and ending with a total of € 70,000 and achieving all five stretch goals. An impressive accomplishment for an independent act, which also showcases a strong internet presence with over 230,000 YouTube subscribers and 56.5 million channel views as well as 37.9 million Spotify streams and 275,000 monthly streamers on the platform.

Entering 2021, the band relinquished a bit of control in signing exclusively with Doomstar Bookings to help properly support their highly anticipated first full-length album, The Cause of Shipwreck, which was released in April.  Once again recorded with renowned producer Joost van den Broek (EPICA, AYREON, POWERWOLF) at Sandlane Recording Facilities, this release showcased the band’s continued evolution into masterfully dark gothic storytelling and theatrical aesthetics that entice you into a deadly yet spellbinding musical paradise. On the live front, launching into success with six sold-out Dutch club shows, they later extended into more European territories such as Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, France, and the Czech Republic as the band moved into 2022.

Despite a very successful 2021, the band still hungered for more, unleashing their latest single, 'Fairy of the Bog' in December.  A song about ‘het meisje van Yde’ (Yde girl), it’s a mixture of folklore, myth, and ancient local history wrapped into a more mystical and magical package that showcases what BLACKBRIAR does best. Due to winning ‘Drents Talent Award Culture 2021’ from ‘Stichting Kunst & Cultuur,’ BLACKBRIAR performed ‘I’d Rather Burn’ live on television together with the Dutch ‘Noordpool Orchestra in early 2022. In April, the band parted ways with founding member and bassist Frank Akkerman. Not a band to slow down, they welcomed Siebe Sol Sijpkens from The Netherlands as their new bassist. A happy and energetic performer with a lifetime of global performances, he is a welcome addition to the act as they continue to strive forward.

With their vision looking firmly into the future, with a major label behind them, they set their sights on 2023 to conjure their most deadly siren song yet. The band previously released the song 'Crimson Faces' to celebrate their partnership with Nuclear Blast Records, and now the world eagerly awaits the release of A Dark Euphony this fall. Set to contain 10 new original songs as well as a bonus track, they recently released their first single from it with 'My Soul’s Demise.' According to Zora, “We've had the pleasure of working with producer and musical genius Joost van den Broek, and we gave it our all to write this record and feel that this is our most complete, personal, and mature album to date.” With this in mind, the band launched a preorder campaign in April for the release, full of unique perks, which has been quite successful already. They have also been preparing on the road, with festival shows Wave Gotik Treffen, SummerBreeze, and Rock the Lakes in 2023, as well as being a special guest on CHARLOTTE WESSELS’s Club Tour.

With accolades behind them, such as being nominated three times for ‘Best Artist’ in EuroSonic/Noorderslag‘s Popgala Noord (2018, 2020, 2022), and continued fan support with current monthly streaming totals on YouTube and Spotify near 1.5 million streams, the world is primed and ready for a spectacular journey into darkness and beauty.
