SVEN GALI UNLEASH LIVE ALBUM RECORDED AT TORONTO’S LEGENDARY EL MOCAMBO

Canadian hard rock heavyweights Sven Gali have announced the release of a ferocious new live album, captured during their sold-out performance on Friday the 13th, September 2024, at the world-famous El Mocambo in Toronto. The record captures the band at full throttle in one of the most iconic rock venues on the planet — and it’s set to drop on another Friday the 13th: June 13, 2025.

With a history as loud as the amps that have powered it, The El Mocambo has hosted some of the most legendary names in rock: The Rolling Stones (who recorded their now-famous 1977 live set there), Stevie Ray Vaughan, U2, The Ramones, Blondie, Elvis Costello, and more. Sven Gali now joins that elite club with a performance that’s raw, unfiltered, and undeniably heavy.

"Recording at the El Mocambo was a full-circle moment for us," says frontman Dave Wanless. "The energy of the crowd, the history of the venue, and the rawness of the night are all captured in this album. It's a testament to our roots and our evolution."

The live album features a thunderous setlist focused on the band’s gold-certified 1992 self-titled debut, delivering full-throttle versions of the songs that made Sven Gali a household name on MuchMusic and beyond:

  • "Under the Influence" – 1993 MuchMusic Heavy Metal Video of the Year

  • "Love Don’t Live Here Anymore" – Top 10 Canadian single and #6 CanCon song of 1993

  • "Tie Dyed Skies" and "In My Garden" – fan favorites with iconic video rotation

  • Plus a searing live cover of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”.

Recorded live withDave Wanless (vocals), Andy Frank (guitar), Shawn Minden (bass), Sean Williamson (guitar),andDan Fila (drums), the album captures Sven Gali doing what they do best:delivering heavy music with zero compromise and total conviction.

As a special thank you to fans, every purchase or pre-sale of the new live album before June 30, 2025, will be automatically entered into a one-of-a-kind contest to win an official Sven Gali Gold Album Award — the real deal, issued by Music Canada, celebrating their 1992 self-titled record going gold. This isn’t a replica — it’s the same style of award that hangs in industry offices and band studios. One lucky fan is going to own a true piece of Canadian rock history.

SVEN GALI UNLEASHES HEAVY COVER OF RED RIDER'S "LUNATIC FRINGE"

Canadian heavy rock legends Sven Gali have released a powerful cover of Red Rider's 1981 classic "Lunatic Fringe," bringing a fresh, hard-hitting intensity to the iconic track. Known for their energetic performances and gritty sound, Sven Gali reimagines the song with a heavier edge, blending driving guitar riffs and thunderous drums with the same raw emotion that made the original a timeless anthem. The video, produced in 2024, captures the band's high-octane spirit while paying homage to the song’s impactful and dark message.

With their heavy twist, Sven Gali reintroduces "Lunatic Fringe" to a new generation of listeners, adding their signature intensity to this legendary piece of Canadian rock history.

Through their fierce and impassioned cover, the band captures the timeless urgency of the song's message while making it unmistakably their own.

It is one in a line of heavy versions of classic Canadian songs the band will record in the near future.

Sven Gali's trademark blend of heavy riffs, gritty vocals, and anthemic melodies span decades. Cutting their teeth in the bar circuit of Southern Ontario, Canada in the late 80’s, Sven Gali’s live show was a full on circus of sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.

Emerging with a record deal with BMG, Sven Gali released their debut self-titled release in 1992. From the first chord of “Under The Influence” Sven Gali made their mark. Follow up singles “Tie Dyed Skies” and “In My Garden” paved the way for the ballad number 6 CanCon song of 1993 that also went Top 10 nationwide, “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.”

As the album went Gold, Sven Gali won the MuchMusic Best Metal Video Award in 1993 for “Under The Influence” and was nominated for two Junos. With a worldwide release, Sven Gali toured with the likes of Def Leppard, Foreigner and April Wine.

Sven Gali’s follow-up, Inwire, was partly recorded in in Seattle with producer Kelly Gray and saw the band take on a more alternative experimental tone. The band broke up soon after the album’s release and played sporadic shows before solidifying a new lineup with original members Dave Wanless (vocals), Andy Frank (guitar) and TT (bass) bringing in guitarist Sean Williamson and drummer Dan Fila from former BMG labelmates Varga.

Sven Gali’s latest full album, Bombs And Battlescars, released in 2024, combines the best of both Sven Gali eras. The band continues to release new music and tour internationally.
