IGGY POP joins JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN for a Powerful Reimagining of “Save Me”

Continuing the celebration of her new album 'Real Life Evolution', released via UK label Reveal Records, NYC singer-songwriter Joan As Police Woman has teamed up with the illustrious Iggy Pop on 'Save Me'. The track is one of ten fresh interpretations of songs from Joan’s 2006 debut 'Real Life' album, reimagined two decades after its original release with a new cast of collaborators and released exactly 20 years from her debut.

Joan Wasser, known as Joan As Police Woman since 2004, is a critically acclaimed musician and producer, and a sought-after collaborator, dubbed “the coolest woman in pop” (The Times) and “one of the 21st century’s best musicians” (The Economist). As a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, her music defies easy categorization, crafting her own sound that blends various genres.

"Some transformations are subtle. Others are seismic. All of them were made with an entirely new cast of collaborators. Among them are two extraordinary vocalists. The inimitable Iggy Pop — whose band I’ve had the privilege of touring with, playing keys and singing — recorded a stunning version of 'Save Me' while we were on the road in New Zealand. We had to work around the birds outside, who apparently had strong opinions about the session. Then there’s Krystle Warren, a true original and one of my favorite singers alive. Her voice is so deeply soulful that 'I Defy' feels like it thoroughly enjoyed easily slipping into its brand new groove," says Joan.

Music has a way of taking on a life of its own, evolving and revealing new meaning as the years pass. Through countless performances, the new renditions on this extraordinary album are brought to life by the brilliance of the players who helped define their sound. This remarkable opportunity to hear Joan return to the music that helped define her artistic journey brings new perspective, texture, and energy to songs that have already stood the test of time.

"My friend’s reaction when I told them who sang this? “Iggy Fucking Pop”?? And yes, I am lucky enough to have been able to record him in a professional studio in New Zealand (a hotel room next to the pool on a day off). Thank goodness for portable recording rigs," explains Joan Wasser.

"To me, Iggy is one of the great romantics. A few years ago, when I joined his band on Wurlitzer organ and vocals, I began to weep while in rehearsal for The Passenger. His voice is simply one of the greatest of all time. It holds a commanding masculinity alongside a profound connection to the fully range of human experience. This song carries that same quality I’ve always heard in him: a raw, aching desperation that few singers can touch. I am forever grateful to the “Godfather of Punk”.

The Real Life Anniversary Sessions video for 'Save' Me' was filmed at The Owl Music Parlor in Brooklyn by Ehud Lazin, and recorded by Adam Sachs as Joan is accompanied by Jeremy Gustin on drums and Will Graefe on guitar and vocals, the 'Real Life Anniversary Sessions)' video. Earlier, Joan shared similar intimate versions of  'Feed The Light', 'Eternal Flame', 'Flushed Chest', 'The Ride','Anyone', the title track 'Real Life', 'I Defy', and the most recent offering in this series - 'Christobel'.

"Will Graefe brings his emotionally masterful guitar work and Jeremy Gustin his remarkable rhythmic sensibility to several tracks. Parker Kindred’s inventive drum creations were the spark behind others. Thomas Bartlett unlocked a new dimension of the title track — honoring its original feeling while casting it in a warmer, amber light — and added Rhodes bass throughout," says Joan.

"This album gave me the chance to reunite, decades on, with upright bassist Tony Scherr, guitarist Oren Bloedow, and funk bassist Danny Blume — musicians whose artistry has only deepened with time."

Joan As Police Woman has released ten albums of original material, two cover albums, and an anthology. She has recorded and performed with hundreds of artists, including Afrobeat legend Tony Allen, Lou Reed, Anohni & The Johnsons, Meshell Ndegeocello, Rufus Wainwright, John Cale, David Byrne, Dave Okumu, Chris Dowd, Lau, Scissor Sisters, Sparklehorse, Beck, Laurie Anderson, Lloyd Cole, Afel Bocoum, Dave Gahan, Tanya Donelly, Damon Albarn and Gorillaz.

'Real Life Evolution' is out everywhere digitally and on CD and Limited Edition exclusive red marble vinyl on Bandcamp.  Tickets for Joan's 'Real Life 20th Anniversary Tour' -- in November 2026 and February 2027 -- can be ordered at www.joanaspolicewoman.com/tour.

EXTREME Share "Save Me" Video

"Save Me" is the impressive ninth video from EXTREME's album SIX, released in June of 2023 on earMUSIC. If first single and video "Rise" was a reminder of EXTREME's power and precision and the latest "Beautiful Girls" a relaxed summer jam, "Save Me" reveals yet another facet of the band's depth and the album's diversity.

SIX finds the band on a creative roll and having produced an astounding nine videos from the album, there's no sign of them slowing down.

Watch the video below.

Directed by SIMPLEXITY PICTURES who have done all the SIX music videos this far ... the dynamic duo, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt and Rene Rigal.

"This video was shot with a very claustrophobic feel to show the raw emotion of the heavy subject matter of the song," says Bettencourt.

"It was important to shoot like this to create a lack of oxygen in black void as if 'we' are the voices in your heads... in our own heads, to visually put across the psychological battle of whispers and screams we have all dealt with in coping with life's challenges"

Gary Cherone's schizophrenic vocal in the verses is the dark narrator in our heads taunting and pushing us to a dangerous edge: "Save me from myself / save me from this hell..." is our voice that is screaming in our heads but often painfully silent on the outside.

Nuno further explains, "The viewer sometimes can't tell where one face ends and the other begins. Like we are small pieces of a human jigsaw puzzle... with one rule... that we will never see the full finished puzzle." Of our full selves.

Reaching a crescendo with Nuno's stinging solo, the video ultimately ends in a dark place, but as Nuno and Gary intended...it is a song of hope...in a dark reality.

"YOU ARE NOT ALONE. There is always someone to call when all seems hopeless."

"SAVE ME" BY JELLY ROLL FEATURING LAINEY WILSON ASCENDS TO #1 ON COUNTRY AIRPLAY CHARTS

Stoney Creek Records' Jelly Roll and Broken Bow Records' Lainey Wilson cap off a monumental year with a Billboard and Country Aircheck/Mediabase #1 single with "Save Me." The monster hit flew up the charts serving as Jelly Roll’s third consecutive single to top the charts in 2023 with "Son of A Sinner" reaching that position in January followed by "Need a Favor" in August.  Written by 2X GRAMMY® nominee/2023 CMA Best New Artist of the Year winner Jelly Roll, “Save Me” featuring Lainey Wilson was released as part of his debut Country Album, Whitsitt Chapel (released June 2nd, 2023) – which earned the biggest Country debut album in Billboard Consumption Chart history. For Lainey, it marks her sixth release to top the charts and with just a six-week gap since she last peaked at #1 with "Watermelon Moonshine", she now holds the Billboard chart history record for the shortest break between #1 singles by a female country artist.

2023 has served as a career defining year for both Jelly and Lainey with each recently earning two GRAMMY® nominations including a joint nomination for "Save Me" in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category. In the general categories, Jelly Roll earned a Best New Artist nomination and  Lainey Wilson's Bell Bottom Country landed a nomination for Best Country Album. In addition, you'll find both up for nominations at the Pollstar Awards in 2024.

In addition to earning a 2023 CMA Award for Best New Artist of the Year, Jelly's rolling right into the New Year having earned four People's Choice Country Awards and three CMT Awards.  He also recently wrapped his sold-out 44-city 2023 Backroad Baptism Arena Tour and celebrated multi-format success with "Need a Favor" peaking inside the Top 10 on Hot AC and Top 25 on Top 40. In Music City, he's currently spearheading Nashville's largest toy drive through December 15 with donation bins located at eight Walmart locations around the metro area.

Already this year, Lainey has won five CMA Awards including the top honor of "Entertainer of the Year", four ACM Awards, two CMT Music Awards, three People's Choice Country Awards, completed a 28-date sold-out headlining tour, made her Red Rocks Amphitheatre and Lollapalooza debut. Wilson was also honored as Billboard Women in Music’s 2023 “Rulebreaker”. Fans can catch Lainey closing out HARDY’s The Mockingbird & The Crow tour and at her four sold-out “Wildflowers and Wild Horses” shows at NFR this month before she embarks on the highly anticipated "Country's Cool Again" and “Lainey Wilson: LIVE” tours in 2024.

About Jelly Roll:

Nashville native singer/songwriter Jelly Roll (Jason DeFord) recently debuted Top 3 on the Billboard 200 All Genre Chart and #2 on the Top Country Album charts with his debut Country Album, Whitsitt Chapel (released June 2nd, 2023) - earning the biggest Country debut album in Billboard Consumption Chart history. Following his sweep at the 2023 CMT Music Awards where he earned 3 awards to become the most awarded artist of the night, the Billboard Country Power List Cover star and “country’s ‘most authentic’ new artist” (The New Yorker) recently received Billboard’s 2023 Breakthrough Award. “One of Nashville’s fastest rising stars” (The New York Times), Jelly was an 8X nominee and 4X winner at the People’s Choice Country Awards and was the most nominated male at the 2023 CMA Awards, with five total nominations capturing his first CMA Award for "New Artist of the Year." His current hit single “Save Me” — a confessional, vulnerable expression of self-doubt— set the stage for his new season of life and took him to new heights, has more than 155 million views on YouTube and Platinum certification from the RIAA.  Jelly debuted the song along with Lainey Wilson at the 2023 ACM Awards on the heels of his 28-week reign at No. 1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. “Save Me” became his third consecutive #1 single in 2023 following his multi-week #1 hits on Country and Rock radio, “Need A Favor” and “Son of A Sinner.”

Having just wrapped his sold-out 44-city 2023 Backroad Baptism Arena Tour and celebrated multi-format success with "
Need a Favor" inside the Top 10 on Hot AC and Top 25 on Top 40, Jelly Roll continues to resonate with fans on a global scale and earn numerous industry milestones - from playing his sold-out hometown show for 18,000 fans at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena to sold-out dates at the Ryman Auditorium and the release of his critically acclaimed Hulu documentary produced by ABC News, “Save Me.”  Featured by Nightline, GMA, GMA3, The New York Times, The Tennessean, Billboard, Variety, American Songwriter, CMT and more, his self-built, unconventional industry rise and unique fan connection has garnered praise from numerous outlets, with Variety noting, “for everyone who’s facing the same struggles, Jelly Roll is their Springsteen,” and American Songwriter echoing, “with a string of accolades and an extremely dedicated following, Jelly Roll has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.”
