Norwegian Black Metal Titans DIMMU BORGIR, SATYRICON + ENSLAVED Unite for Historic Halloween Arena Show

On October 31, black metal history will be written in Oslo (NO). For one night only, three of Norway’s most influential and globally revered bands – Dimmu Borgir, Satyricon and Enslaved – will unite at Oslo Spektrum for a landmark event set to become the biggest black metal show ever staged on Norwegian soil. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 10, 10:00 CEST at THIS LOCATION.

Few genres have had the global cultural impact of Norwegian black metal – and today, its dominance is undeniable. From headlining Europe’s premier festivals to selling out venues worldwide, Norwegian acts continue to define and push the genre forward. UNHOLY HALLOWEEN brings together three of its most pioneering forces for an exclusive, once-in-a-generation celebration of the scene’s past, present and future.

Each band arrives at this moment at the height of its powers. Dimmu Borgir recently headlined Tons of Rock, Satyricon has sold out the Oslo Opera House and delivered a critically acclaimed commission for the Munch Museum, while Enslaved continues to redefine the genre – earning multiple Norwegian Grammy Awards for their groundbreaking work.

For Dimmu Borgir, the night also marks a long-awaited homecoming. It has been 15 years since their last headline show in Oslo – a landmark performance with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra at the very same venue.

“We’re releasing our new album 'Grand Serpent Rising' this spring, followed by extensive touring across Europe and other markets. By the time we return to Norway, we’ll be ready to deliver something truly massive. Since it’s been so long since our last headline show at home, we’re going all in. This will be the biggest Dimmu Borgir production to date,” says DIMMU BORGIR vocalist Shagrath.

“It’s been over 20 years since I first explored the idea of bringing together some of the giants of Norwegian black metal on the biggest stages in Europe. We never made it happen back then. Now, two decades later, it’s finally becoming a reality – and on a scale beyond anything we imagined. This will be our Super Bowl,” says SATYRICON's Sigurd Wongraven.

“We are very excited about being invited to be part of this massive endeavour; which will celebrate the leading edge of Norwegian Metal on the appropriate scale! We will bring our best game as always… and then some!" comments ENSLAVED's Ivar Bjørnson.

DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Silenoz (Sven Atle Kopperud) emphasizes the broader significance of the event:

“This is more than a concert – it’s a statement. A celebration of a culture we’ve helped build over decades. Sharing the stage at Oslo Spektrum with bands that have been part of that same journey feels both powerful and necessary.”

DIMMU BORGIR will be releasing its new full-length, 'Grand Serpent Rising,' on May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records. The band has recently commemorated the upcoming opus with an official music video for the first single, "Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel," which can be found Below.

In addition, DIMMU BORGIR will be co-headlining the "In League with Satan" tour with BEHEMOTH in October 2026 with support from DARK FUNERAL. The full itinerary can be found below while tickets are available HERE.

BEYOND THE GATES 2023 FESTIVAL PASSES

Beyond the Gates 2024 is pleased to reveal that Norwegian iconic metal band Satyricon will play two unique concerts in Grieghallen as the festival's artist in residence!

Since the early 90s Satyricon has been a flagbearer and innovator within the confines of Norwegian Extreme Metal - always searching for new ways to challenge themselves and the listener. From songwriting to visual art, production and presentation – Satyricon has always strived to be ahead of the pack.

‘Horns & Diadems’ are two unique sets that celebrate the music and art of this treasured duo, as well as honoring their impact on Norwegian music history and culture. From the early beginnings with 'Dark Medieval Times' and 'The Shadowthrone' to milestone albums such as 'Nemesis Divina,' the groundbreaking 'Rebel Extravaganza,' to chart toppers 'Now,Diabolical' and 'Deep Calleth Upon Deep,' Satyricon has made no compromises in their 30+ year career as a genre defining entity.

The two concerts will have completely different setlists, spanning from the early days - featuring songs that haven't been performed live for many, many years - up until present day.

Satyricon frontman Satyr comments: “What we are doing here is an example of the route this band has taken. A residency at the mighty Grieghallen feels like a natural next step following appearances at the The Norwegian Opera and Ballet and the art exhibition, Satyricon & Munch at the Munch Museum. We will try and show everyone exactly what this band is about and we very much look forward to it already.”

Adds festival manager, Torgrim Øyre: “We’ve always strived to be able to offer our festival audience something unique – to take them on a journey that you can’t experience anywhere else. Working with Satyricon on this project is an exemplification of just that. The band has a tremendous history and is an artist that has always pushed the boundaries of the genre, never doing anything by halves. Rest assured - they won’t do that this time either. Satyricon has been creatively restless from the get-go, something that has resulted in a rich and diverse catalogue. We can’t wait to hear the band take a deep plunge into their history and and take us all on a Supersonic Journey from their roots and beyond.”

The concerts will also include guest musicians who have made a mark on Satyricon’s illustrious history. The two shows will take place in the iconic Grieghallen Friday, August 2 and Saturday, August 3. The event will be enriched with a variety of art exhibitions and other Satyricon related activities.

Expect the unexpected.

The experience details are as follows:

Black Metal Landmarks with Tore Bratseth

Metal legend and storyteller bar none, Tore Bratseth (Old Funeral, The Batallion, Bömbers) will take you on a trip to the outskirts of Bergen to show visitors a series of key locations in the Norwegian black metal lore. The trip includes stops at the Lysekloster ruins, where a series of legendary photo and video shoots have taken place, as well as the bunker where Euronymous was photographed for the “De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas” promo cycle. Another stop on the trek is the location of the original Os Rock Club where Mayhem rehearsed before the recording “DMDS” in Grieghallen, and also regular rehearsal place for Old Funeral and Amputation.

This trip will go by bus from outside of Grieghallen (Nygårdsgaten).

Beyond the Black Metal Classics - a guided tour of Grieghallen with Pytten

If you want to get an in-depth look at how some of the most renowned black metal classics from the 90s came together, look no further! Legendary producer Pytten has offered to take the Beyond the Gates audience on a guided tour of Grieghallen, where he recorded seminal albums such as Enslaved’s Vikingligr Veldi, Frost and Eld, the first two Emperor albums, In the Nightside Eclipse and Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, Gorgoroth’s Pentagram and Antichrist,Mayhem’s De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, and Immortal’s Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism, Battles in the North. Without a doubt, all of these records were instrumental in shaping what became the sound of the inimitable Norwegian Black Metal scene in the 90’s.

In an effort to make this an intimate experience for all attendees, there will only be a very limited number of tickets available for each group.

Fantoft Stave Church Tour with Finn Håkon Rødland

Any self-respecting black metal aficionado knows the dark story of the genre's origins, which includes the infamous Fantoft Stave Church arson that took place on June 6, 1992. Now rebuilt exactly as it was before the fire, fans can get a personal tour of this legendary site with black metal historian Finn Håkon Rødland.

“As a festival, Beyond the Gates is immediately lovable. Bergen is intrinsically part of that embrace… Sure, Norway’s expensive, but seeing the best bands out there, taking in a Tolkienesque fjord or two, pilgrimaging to Fantoft church, hitting up Gaahl’s art gallery (Galleri Fjalar) nestled in the quaint houses at Bryggen while Freyr gleefully and continually pisses rain on you from the heavens? All worth its weight in hordes of kroner.” - Decibel Magazine, December 2022 issue

Since the inception of the Beyond the Gates festival, fans have been coming to Bergen to see performances of their favorite Norwegian artists in their home environment. As most visitors know, nature and local culture has always been a poignant source of inspiration for the bands emerging from the Bergen scene. Yet again, Beyond the Gates will give all of the traveling fans the opportunity to get an unique insight into all aspects of the Norwegian Metal scene and the local culture in general. In that regard, we’re putting together a series of events before and during the festival so that all of you can discover what inspired – and still does - the Norwegian metal scene.

More special events will be announced, including exclusive listening parties, music and culture panels, in-depth live interviews, and a wealth of of events and activities that will give you a Beyond the Gates Experience that will last for a lifetime. Stay tuned for more...
