POH HOCK Announces New EP

'Gallimaufry' - Out March 31

Boston-based guitarist Poh Hock has announced the follow-up to his 2019 debut EP, 'Ātma'. The former lead guitarist for the now-defunct Native Constructwill release his sophomore effort, 'Gallimaufry', on March 31, 2023.

As a treat to fans who have lamented the end of Native Construct, the first single off the new EP sees Poh Hock reunite with NC vocalist Robert Edens on the track "Fragile Space"! The music video for the new single was directed by Erez Bader.

Commenting on the history and influences behind the new song, Poh Hock shares:

“7 years ago, Rob and I started working on a song together for Native Construct's sophomore album, which was subsequently shelved. 7 years of experiences and learnings later, we brought it back to life for Poh Hock's 2nd EP, ‘Gallimaufry’.

"This track is an experiment in bringing together different musical styles - Rob with his electronic and pop influences, and me with my background in classical and jazz music (and of course, metal), resulting in the eccentric and ethereal Fragile Space.”

Mercury X is an outstanding progressive metal band hailing from Sweden. Mercury X's music and sound takes inspiration from the early '80s progressive metal bands as well as modern metal. The new album, "Imprisoned", is based on their lives during the making of the album, taking the listener through different emotional stages with simple and beautiful melodies accompanied by rough riffs.

Mercury X originally formed in 2013 in Norrtälje, outside of Stockholm. Guitarist/lead vocalist/violinist Martin Björklund, bassist Alfonso Flores, guitarist Jonas Vedin, and drummer/lead vocalist Denis Diaz met for the first time when they were studying music together in high school. They soon formed a band together, but eventually everyone followed their course of studies in different cities. When they all came back home, they decided to start a band again and thus formed Mercury X. Since then, the band has made two albums, both released independently.Le

More recently, they started writing an epic twenty minute long song called 'Imprisoned,' which was originally supposed to be a stand-alone EP release. After it was written, they decided to record an additional four songs and make a proper (for progressive metal) full length album.

As the album neared completion, they started to realize that it was a big step up from their previous releases, both in musical and songwriting quality in general, so they started to shop themselves around for a record deal. Eventually, they got in contact with Frontiers, who were deeply impressed with the quality of the material and signed the band.

Prog/Power metal masters Lords Of Black are set to return in 2021 with a new album, the follow-up to 2020's incredibly well received "Alchemy Of Souls, Part I". The new album, “Alchemy Of Souls, Part II” is a continuation of the themes started on the previous album. With the downtime created by the global pandemic, Lords Of Black worked incredibly hard to create music that pushed past the boundaries of anything the band had done in the past showing a newfound musical maturity from the band, incorporating new musical elements into their style. Vocalist Ronnie Romero (Rainbow, Sunstorm, The Ferrymen) delivers another vocal performance yet to be matched, guitarist Tony Hernando delivers some of the best melodic metal he has ever written, while bassist Dani Ciado and drummer Jo Nunez prove to be a powerful rhythm section so powerful who play with absolute finesse.

Like its predecessor, “Alchemy Of Souls, Part II” is setting a new gold standard for melodic metal in the new decade.

Line-Up:

Ronnie Romero - vocals

Tony Hernando - guitars

Dani Criado - bass

Jo Nunez - drums

Prog/Power metal masters Lords Of Black are set to return in 2021 with a new album, the follow-up to 2020's incredibly well received "Alchemy Of Souls, Part I". The new album, “Alchemy Of Souls, Part II” is a continuation of the themes started on the previous album. "You all know the old saying, "Second parts are never as good as the first parts"... but honestly, I think this record is an exception to that. This is a collection of very strong songs, sporting a variety of elements that, as a whole, make this second installment familiar yet different. The magic of every album lies in its own uniqueness, and that is ultimately our goal, to avoid repeating ourselves," says guitarist Tony Hernando.

"This album has obviously been influenced by the exceptional times we are living in, therefore the intent of every song is to try to be meaningful and powerful in their intention to make you experience wonder and enthusiasm, which is our ultimate goal," he continues.

Heavier and darker compared to the album that preceded it, “Alchemy Of Souls, Part II” enhances the perception that Lords Of Black are now ready to ascend to the upper tiers of European melodic metal. This is an album not to be missed by both melodic metal and progressive metal fans alike. An absolute delight for the ears and another classic in the making from these Spanish masters.

Upon their formation, Lords Of Black’s vision was to form a metal band with a modern approach blended with catchy, melodic, and progressive elements. After months of intense hard work on the songs, the band independently released their acclaimed self-titled debut in 2014, which was co-produced by Roland Grapow (Masterplan, Helloween).

The band supported the release with a series of successful live shows, including guest spots for a variety of high profile international acts. Later, legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore (Deep Purple, Blackmore's Night) became aware of Ronnie Romero's vocal talents and invited him to front his, at the time, newly reformed Rainbow. This brought the band to the attention of international music media and in particular, the words from Blackmore describing Romero’s voice like “a cross between Ronnie James Dio and Freddie Mercury” piqued the curiosity of journalists and fans alike. While enjoying this new found attention, Romero and Hernando continued work on Lords Of Black and signed a worldwide deal with the Frontiers label. The first global release from the partnership was "II", an album which did and continues to blow the minds of fans of modern melodic metal.

Once again, co-produced, mixed, and mastered by Roland Grapow, the album created a stir in the metal scene and is still regarded as a true underground classic. The band played several European shows in support of the release and then headed back to the studio to create the follow up album, "Icons of the New Days". Upon its release, the album once again set a new standard for melodic metal with outstanding epic tracks mixed with glorious power/progressive metal songs.

Like its predecessor, “Alchemy Of Souls, Part II” is setting a new gold standard for melodic metal in the new decade.

Line-Up:

Ronnie Romero - vocals

Tony Hernando - guitars

Dani Criado - bass

Jo Nunez - drums

New Release Turbulence

Turbulence are among the new wave of prog metal bands intent on breaking the mold. Musicianship is always at the forefront of this style, but too often bands look to the past rather than the present to expand their sound, which makes 'Frontal' an overtly forward-thinking journey.

-Loudwire-

Frontal shows they have more than enough technical and emotional chops to keep growing and exploring, while being a gem in its own right. Capital-P Prog fans ought to be all over this one.

-Last Rites-

Turbulence’s sophomore album Frontal is a successful second entry from the band and enjoyable major label start for the group

-Phils Picks-

Turbulence, a new progressive metal band hailing from Lebanon, released their new album, "Frontal" this past Friday via Frontiers Music Srl. Coming from a region not exactly famous for prog music, Turbulence has emerged from their local scene and is ready to compete on a world stage. The band is preparing to unleash their sophomore album, “Frontal,” a concept album which showcases Turbulence's ability to combine compelling musical storytelling with modern sounds and production.
