Hellfest Donates 1 Million Euro to Savage Lands

Savage Lands are still buzzing after their performance on the main stage at Hellfest. Today, the musician-run 501(c) 3 non-profit is thrilled to announce that the festival is donating one million Euro to support their ongoing reforestation efforts in Costa Rica and Europe!

"This is a historical move by Hellfest and a great signal to the music industry", says musician-turned-activist Sylvain Demercastel, who founded Savage Lands with Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren. "Such an extraordinarily generous donation from a renowned festival is just another example of the many ways that the metal community supports each other".

Hellfest's donation is just one part of a five-year partnership. Savage Lands will continue to host a booth on the festival grounds. This year, Bill Hudson (I Am Morbid), members of Dimmu Borgir and other metalheads stopped by their booth to learn more about the green zones, nature sanctuaries and other biodiversity preservation projects that they are building in Costa Rica. The non-profit has protected 60,000 square feet of rain forest using 100% of the royalties from their music.

"As a non-profit, we depend on the support of our listeners, other organizations and fellow artists", Sylvain says.

Many of their famous friends showed up to support Savage Lands at Hellfest. Sylvain was backed by familiar faces in Florian Pons (Loco Muerte) and Poun and Etienne Treton (Black Bomb A). Andreas Kisser (Sepultura) and Daniel de Jongh (Textures) joined for their entire set, which kicked off with "The Last Howl", a fitting tribute to the endangered howler monkey. Chloe Trujillio hopped on for the blackened groove of "Black Rock Heart", followed by Silje Wergeland (The Gathering) who sang along to the band's new melancholic single "No Remedy".

Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) and Sakis Tolis (Rotting Christ) pledged their support via video. So did Maria Franz from Heilung, who are also partnering with Savage Lands. The Nordic collective are donating $1 for every ticket sold on their US tour to support the non-profit's reforestation efforts.

As if that wasn't enough starpower, for their grand finale, Savage Lands brought out Jesper Liveröd (Nasum) Alejandro Montoya (Cultura tres) Billy Graziadei (Biohazard) and Shane Embury (Napalm Death) for a bloody, screaming rendition of "Roots".

"I've known Andreas for such a long time," says Shane Embury. "It was great sharing the stage with him and all of these wonderful musicians. Meeting and becoming friends with Sylvain and the rest of his band was a beautiful experience.

"Making true creative connections like this is so important" Shane continues. "That's a big part of what draws me to Savage Lands. We are connected with every living thing on this planet and their organization is helping to preserve nature's treasures. I'm happy to be a part of such a truly important cause".

Some of the artists who performed with Savage Lands at Hellfest have already committed to working on their upcoming album, which will be released by Season of Mist. In the meantime, Sylvain and Dirk are still looking for more festivals and other prominent members of the metal community to join the army of trees.

"Our goals are attainable" Sylvain says. "By converting the land that we purchase into nature sanctuaries, Savage Lands will help set a precedent for environmental activism. But we must act quickly. Ecosystems are still under attack. If we don't, then there won't be any wildlife left to save".

Just listening to their music helps support Savage Lands. 100% of their song royalties fund the non-profit’s preservation efforts in Costa Rica.

Artists occasionally support causes through donations to organizations. With SAVAGE LANDS, Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren teamed up with his guitar-wielding friend Sylvain Demercastel to create their own US 501(c)3 non-profit.

Savage Lands raises money for reforestation and the creation of sanctuaries free of human destruction in Costa Rica. Using their own royalties, donations and other fundraising efforts, the organization builds nature sanctuaries, establishes green zones and other land preservation projects. They partner with other non-profits, scientists and forest engineers, as well as Decibel Magazine and Season of Mist.

"If you want to make a difference, take action! Our greatest hope with Savage Lands is that it will inspire you to join us, and if you can, to start your own initiative to help preserve animals, forests, and our planet", says Dirk.

Savage Lands Performing on Hellfest Main Stage

Loud buzzing is music to the ear of most metalheads. But Megadeth drummer Dirk Verbeuren and guitarist Sylvain Demercastel are so enraged by the sound of chainsaws destroying Costa Rica's ecosystem that they've started Savage Lands, a musician-run 501 (c) 3 non-profit.

Savage Lands have protected 60,000 square feet of Costa Rican rainforest using royalties from their music. Next week, they're planting their ecological flag at Hellfest with a little help from some of their famous friends.

Whether they're planting trees or holed away in the studio, Savage Lands foster the spirit of collaboration. Recently, they made history by signing a joint manifesto that addresses the need for forest and wildlife preservation. This marks the first time that three active Costa Rican / US-based non-profits have officially banded together over a shared mission statement.

"No Remedy" follows the same approach, though to different results than Savage Land's first two singles. Sylvain still comes speeding out the gate with another burning riff that will ignite the crowd at Hellfest, but this is the most melodic song they've ever written. When the band hit the chorus, the guitars don't crunch but crest into warm, washed-out power chords.

"That's one of the beautiful things about Savage Lands", Sylvain says. "As a band, we're not limited to just one genre. We can adapt to boost the strengths of whomever is joining us".

Black Bomb A experts know Poun for his explosive screams, but on "No Remedy", he simmers down in service of guest vocalist Maria Franz. Heilung are also partnering with Savage Lands by donating $1 for every ticket sold on their 2024 US tour to support their reforestation efforts, but their faithful followers might be surprised to hear that her soothing clean singing fits right at home with a heavy metal band.

"Supporting what Savage Lands is doing on the ground in Costa Rica was an easy decision" Maria says. After all, Heilung have a tradition of donating to tree planting initiatives. "But when Sylvain sent me 'No Remedy', there was a sense of melancholy to the song that really resonated with me".

Protecting the environment is the heartbeat of every Savage Lands song. "No Remedy" can be seen as a reflection on destroying the planet. The video was shot in an abandoned, run-down building that was once owned by Napoleon. But the song speaks to other human concerns. "I am locked in my head / And I lost the key", Poun bemoans, his quiet desperation only answered by Maria's haunting echo ("Never, never now").

"We are all helpless to stop the passing of time", Sylvain says. At the end of the video, the band members disappear from the screen, one by one, using an old-school film technique. "Each of us is left with only our memories".

Still, "No Remedy" does find a silver lining. "What do we need to live together?" Poun and Maria sing, their voices climbing, almost circling each other, before locking into perfect harmony. They might look mad as hell while yelling at each other across the kitchen table, but the whole video crew was in stitches after the sixth take of Maria throwing water on poor Poun. "Whether we're talking about the environment or our friendships, it's vital that we appreciate what we have during our time on this earth", Sylvain says.

Just listening to "No Remedy" helps support Savage Lands. 100% of the song's royalties fund the musician-run non-profit's preservation efforts in Costa Rica.

HANGMAN'S CHAIR - Announce New Album A Loner With Live Video For "An Ode To Breakdown"

There ain't no rest for the wicked. After the release of two captivating singles, and a number of recent live shows in France and Benelux, HANGMAN'S CHAIR take a breath today to share some exciting news. February 11th will see the birth of another bright star in their discography, their new album A Loner will be released via Nuclear Blast Records.

A Loner is the sixth album of the Parisienne quartet that stands confidently between the wistful sound of goth rock pioneers à la SISTERS OF MERCY, the emotive weight of grunge icons ALICE IN CHAINS, and impassioned storytelling of New York hardcore outliers LIFE OF AGONY. It’s a unique combination that makes HANGMAN's CHAIR stand out as a truly promising prospect in the French metal scene and beyond.

Pre-order your copy of "A Loner" here: https://hangmanschair.bfan.link/a-loner.ema

That’s not all, having played a mesmerizing show at this year's at-home edition of the legendary HELLFEST, HANGMAN’s CHAIR is also releasing a live video for "An Ode To Breakdown", heralding the new album with its monumental intensity. Check out "An Ode To Breakdown" below.

The band states about "An Ode To Breakdown":
"'An Ode To Breakdown' was clearly meant to be the first song of our new album 'A Loner'. Our new direction, especially sound-wise, is perfectly represented by this track.
The cover is also a new direction for us, in contrast to the lyrics, the light was chosen. White and neons as the new outfit. We asked the photographer Christopher De Bethune and the illustrator Dehn Sora to tell us what Loneliness means to them. An old man, a bench, and the world around. Waiting for nothing."

HANGMAN'S CHAIR, formed in 2005 in Paris, is one of the most unique sounding Doom Rock bands currently active. Through the years, they have found and fine-tuned their own sonic brand, somewhere at the crossroads between Type O Negative, Life Of Agony, and Sisters of Mercy, to name a few, mixed with certain street credibility connected to the group’s roots in hardcore. Each album takes its strength and essence from the band members’ life experiences, which they portrait with unflinching honesty. Whether it is the loss of band members, drug overdoses, or the hardships of living in suburban Paris, all those human emotions resonate within each of their songs as they embrace the darkness and transform it into something beautiful, heavy, and melancholic.

HANGMAN'S CHAIR is:
Julien Chanut - Guitar
Cédric Toufouti - Guitar, Vocals
Mehdi Thepegnier - Drums
Clément Hanvic - Bass

RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR - Share Energetic Live Video "Again And Again"

Today crossover metallers Rise Of The Northstar premiered a brand-new live video for "Again and Again"!

The band started a digital summer live show marathon on their YouTube Artist Channel, presenting a series of live videos emphasizing their many concerts and festival appearances and giving fans abroad a glimpse of what to expect in the future. The video from their hit-single "Again And Again" is the latest live cut to be released, recorded live at Hellfest in summer 2018.

"We've been happy to take our supporters on board for a blast from the past journey through our digital summer live show marathon. Closing it now with a festival like Hellfest was an obvious choice as it was one of the most tremendous ones we had before lockdown", comments the band.

"Again And Again" is from their internationally acclaimed debut album Welcame (2014). From their first tours of Europe with acts like Suicide Silence, Madball, or even Dir En Grey to support their debut record, up until a mainstage show at Download Festival in 2017, The Welcame cycle had taken the band to the most significant European stages and the Far East with two tours incorporating Japan, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Indonesia.

In its original music video, the band demonstrated and pictured what it takes for an underdog to break into the music scene and industry back in 2015. Where the band commented about the video: "It comes through countless miles on the road, relentless touring, everywhere (Vithia's multiple injuries are a testimony of how hard it is to deliver what it takes to become established). Japanese culture comes into play as a focus driver for us; Be it the fictional world of Saint Seiya or the concrete universe of Onizuka and furyos, the philosophy displayed by our heroes is one of absolute tenacity and strength when facing challenges and adversity. Every time they fall to the ground, they manage to find that extra spark that makes them stand up, right back on their feet - Again and again" - RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR

INSANITY ALERT Shares "All Mosh / No Brain" Live at Hellfest 2019

INSANITY ALERT
Shares "All Mosh / No Brain" Performance from Hellfest 2019

Crossover party thrashers INSANITY ALERT are now releasing their live Hellfest performance of the song "All Mosh / No Brain." The video was recorded during the band's main stage performance at the legendary festival on June 23, 2019. Watch the performance at THIS LOCATION.

INSANITY ALERT comments: "We go back to the year 1 BC (Before Covid). In the land before time, when people ran to the pit and moshed for their lives. Until we meet again in hell's best party place: Stay safe and stay home, but promise us one little thing: Don't ever let your home become an office again! So stop the thinking, start the drinking: All Mosh, No Brain!"

"All Mosh / No Brain" is taken from the band's 2019 release, '666-Pack,' which can be streamed, downloaded, or purchased HERE.

INSANITY ALERT have previously announced new tourdates for the second half of this year with Spanish thrash metal band CRISIX.

Thrash outfit INSANITY ALERT are the kind of people who know what to bring to a party: a big dose of humour with a dash of darkness, party tunes, and a six pack. It’s these ingredients that make up the basis of the band’s third full length record, ‘666-pack’.

The world of INSANITY ALERT is a dark yet happy place. Fast, aggressive music, crazy lyrics about alcohol, rage, weed, ignorance and hate, all drenched in an 80’s hot sauce but played with a 2019 attitude. The band emerged from the Austrian city of Innsbruck in 2011, with only one intent: deliver crushing, crossover party thrash.

A tongue-in-cheek concept backed up by strong musical prowess worked out extremely well as 'First Diagnosis' proved in 2012. This demo was welcomed with open arms and the first impression of the public quickly confirmed by 'Second Opinion', which came out the year after. In 2014, debut album, 'Insanity Alert' delighted critics and fans alike and was reissued four years later by Season of Mist. The wild Tyrolians, always eager to please, next served a juicy 'Moshburger' (2016).

With ‘666-pack’ the band proves once more to be an unstoppable force. Whether it is dropping a to-the-point, crossover track such as “The Body Of The Christ is The Parasite” or INSANITY ALERT-esque interpretations of classics like “Saturday Grind Fever”, the groove will have you headbanging in no time with a smirk on your face. Having confirmed their first festivals for 2019 and riding the wave of the thrash metal revival, INSANITY ALERT can’t wait to return to the stage and share (a) 666-pack with you!
