Canadian prog-rockers CROWN LANDS announce new album 'Fearless'

Juno Award-winning, powerhouse rock duo CROWN LANDS have announced their sophomore album 'Fearless' - Out March 31 on Spinefarm/Universal Music Canada!

After a landmark 2022 that saw the band tour in the US with Greta Van Fleet and partner with TSN as part of a campaign for the Canadian Men’s National Team during the FIFA World Cup, the band has dropped an 18-minute epic "Starlifter: Fearless Pt. II"

JUNO Award Winning Rock Duo CROWN LANDS Join Greta Van Fleet on 'Dreams in Gold' Tour This Month

JUNO award-winning, powerhouse rock outfit Crown Lands are eager to embark on their most impactful US tour to date. The duo of Cody Bowles (vocals, drums) and Kevin Comeau (guitar, bass, keys) will join the 2022 'Dreams In Gold' arena tour, supporting the one and only Greta Van Fleet! Crown Lands will begin their run on the tour on October 18 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Commenting on these upcoming shows, Cody & Kevin share:

"We’re very much looking forward to playing in the US again! It’s been years. We’ve missed the culture, the interstates, and the people. It’s an honour to be opening up for Greta Van Fleet. They opened the door for rock music to penetrate the mainstream in our generation. It feels like a natural fit. So many fans have called for us to tour together for years. It feels good to be making it happen!"

The Canadian prog-rockers go on to address making their return to the states this year, saying:

"Touring the USA right now is one of the hardest things a band can do. It has become absurdly expensive when you factor in fuel, hotels, Van maintenance, crew wages, work permit costs (trust me this is a big one). Not to mention the risk of covid and other illnesses when playing to arenas full of people. It’s a beautiful and risky endeavour. All of this, plus 8-hour drives each day to get on stage for a half hour. That time on stage is why we do it. We believe it’s worth it. We are a live band. It’s in our blood. This is why we do it! See you on the road."

ABOUT CROWN LANDS

Juno-Award winning rock-duo, Crown Lands’ self-titled debut album, produced by Grammy-nominated Dave Cobb, was released in the summer of 2020, to widespread acclaim from the likes of Guitar World, Kerrang!, and American Songwriter; coverage from the BBC and the CBC. Crown Lands then stormed into 2021 with two songs, “Context: Fearless Pt. 1” and “Right Way Back,” that returned them to their prog-rock roots and pointed the way to a limitless future, while also connecting the group to their legendary countrymen, Rush, after working with three prolific Rush producers – Terry Brown, Nick Raskulinecz and David Bottrill – on the tracks. “Context: Fearless Pt. 1” and “Right Way Back” premiered with Rolling Stone and were named “Rockest Record of the Week” on BBC Radio 1. Shortly after, Crown Lands received their first Juno Award nominations, for Rock Album of the Year and taking home the award for Breakthrough Group of the Year. Crown Lands continued their collaboration with Bottrill, releasing four more tracks they had worked on with him in the form of White Buffalo which included the mission-driven title track, “White Buffalo” which was presented as the third installment of a trilogy of songs addressing Indigenous rights. The series of songs connect the past with “Mountain,” the present with “End of the Road” while “White Buffalo” aspires to a prosperous future. Most recently, Crown Lands released their first-ever live record, Odyssey Volume 1 which celebrates songs from their emergent discography to date.

Hailing from Southwestern Ontario, powerhouse Canadian rock duo Crown Lands is a startlingly fresh jolt of energy, making music that brings together a range of influences

from folk and blues to psychedelic prog rock. The group’s name is indicative of their

musical ambitions: “Crown Land” is territorial area belonging to the monarch—or, as

Bowles (whose own heritage is half Mi’kmaw, an Indigenous tribe from Nova Scotia)

puts it: “Crown Land is stolen land and we are reclaiming.

“The first thing you notice when you listen to Crown Lands is the technical mastery the music demands. Comeau’s guitar is wailing, unrelenting and mathematically complex. Bowles’ voice howls their politically charged lyrics at a register reminiscent of the glory days of rock and roll.” – Next Magazine

“Fusing the bite of The White Stripes with the brains of Rush, exploring social issues such as the plight of Canada’s Indigenous people, and dressing like shamanic moonchildren on a mescaline trip, they could be rock’n’roll’s next royalty.” – Classic Rock

Juno Award-winning, powerhouse rock duo Crown Lands – Cody Bowles (vocals and drums) and Kevin Comeau (guitar, bass, and keys) – share two new tracks, “White Buffalo” and “The Oracle” today through Spinefarm Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Both tracks were recorded with three-time Grammy Award-winning, Toronto producer David Bottrill (Tool, Mastodon, Rush, Peter Gabriel).

“White Buffalo” arrives as a symbol of aspiration, in recognition of the resilience and strength of Indigenous communities to overcome injustice while manifesting a prosperous future. The big guitars, stomping baseline and pummeling drums barrel forward as if to conjure the movement of a giant buffalo.

“White Buffalo is the third instalment in our trilogy of songs about Indigenous rights,” says Crown Lands. “Mountain is what happened. “End of the Road” is what is happening. White Buffalo is manifesting what will happen: overcoming oppression and rising up to reclaim one’s land. The White Buffalo is a symbol of manifestation. When Colonizers came to North America they tried to wipe out the Buffalo to starve Indigenous people to death. The buffalo are still here. We are too, and together we’ll overcome. Also, never has 7/8 ever been more danceable.”

“White Buffalo” is released today with the accompanying official music video, directed by Alim Sabir. The spirited visual sees Crown Lands immersed in the elements, performing in a new age forest with dancers that fortify the theme of movement.

Watch the video for “White Buffalo” below

Over the course of a thirteen-minute, multi-part composition, “The Oracle,” continues another story that Crown Lands is creating, revealing the origins of the Queen character featured in the “Context: Fearless Pt. 1” music video. “We wanted to take the listener somewhere and evoke a sense of adventure,” says Bowles. Taking solace from the realities Crown Lands confront in a fictional world they continue to create.

Crown Lands were introduced to Grammy Award-winning producer David Bottrill after he produced the vocals for the band’s last release, “Context: Fearless Pt. 1.” Comeau recalls, “The riff for ‘White Buffalo’ came to me during the Context / Right Way Back session with Nick Raskulinecz back in February 2020. It felt addicting and special then. It was originally written in 13/8 and the chorus was in 7. It kept popping its head up in jam sessions, but we weren’t sure how to make the chorus work. Enter David Bottrill.” On working with the esteemed producer, Comeau continues, “Dave is one of the most meticulous and detail-oriented people we’ve worked with. His precision helped make these songs exactly what they needed to be.”

Fans now have a chance to experience a Crown Lands live set up-close-and-personal as the band announce a hometown show on December 1, 2021 at the Axis Club (Formally The Mod Club) in Toronto. Tickets are available now on Ticketmaster.
