Calva Louise Walk "Edge of the Abyss" + Follow the Path of the Warrior on "Impeccable" Video

Calva Louise continue their frenetic vision on the explosive new single "Impeccable." It pulls you with both hands into their complex and cinematic sci-fi universe with a mesmerizing blend of punk, metal, and electronica. They've dropped another incredibly hypnotic video, once again directed with visual effects by singer/guitarist Jess Allanic.

Watch it below.

The sprawling story of Calva Louise is captivating. The band that found each other from opposite corners of the world — Venezuela, New Zealand, and France — discovered their home and community in the UK. Their combined influences and experiences create an incredible melting pot of musicality, and with Jess Allinac's compelling narrative vision, they've conceived something truly unique.

Their new studio album, Edge of the Abyss, which is co-produced by Pendulum's Gareth McGrillen, will be released on July 11 via Mascot Records.

Set in 1994, "Impeccable" is a direct sequel to "W.T.F," which introduced the protagonist, Louise, who is experiencing bizarre happenings inside her home and encounters a feeling of dread signaling danger: someone is inside her house and stalking her. She catches glimpses of what has been stalking her: An uncanny version of herself — her "double."

"It is about that feeling of powerlessness that occurs when we are in situations beyond our control," says Allanic.

Another high-energy collision of futurism, riffs, apocalyptic drums, and haunting electronics, "Impeccable" continues its journey down the rabbit hole and tells the story of a young man called Jonnie, who has been deadly poisoned and has no choice but to act impeccably to survive.

"I follow you anywhere you go. Death spoke to the warrior, Who was looking for a chance. I follow you anywhere you go. He said to the abyss, On the edge of life," the lyrics hypnotically yearn.

"For this, he has to follow his double into another world, the Fractalworld, or death will strike him," the band says. "Jonnie will have to quickly understand who his double is and cross over the threshold to overcome his fate. Impeccable is the direct sequel of 'W.T.F,' where we meet the main character Louise and her own encounter with her double."

The Edge of the Abyss sees characters traveling between different dimensions, with people who mysteriously resemble doubles of each of us, like shadows that seem to stalk us but who, in reality, seek to communicate. Who are these beings? What do they want from us? How can we reach them?

The recent single "Lo Que Vale" — translated into English as "What is Worth," became the latest frenzied installment of the album following "Aimless," a reflective catharsis of human communication.

The cinematic sci-fi videos for the album singles show different times and worlds where some characters have encounters with their 'doubles.' "W.T.F" is the prequel of the previous singles — "La Corriente" and "Under The Skin" — all directed and VFX by Jess.

Calva Louise have also announced their September 2025 U.S headline tour. All dates are below. Get tickets, which go on sale on Tuesday, June 17 at 10am local time, here.

Calva Louise Announce New Album "Edge of the Abyss" + Drop New Single "Aimless"

WELCOME TO THE CALVA LOUISE UNIVERSE

The sprawling story of Calva Louise, the band whose members found each other from opposite corners of the world and whose combined influences and experiences, have created a myriad of captivating threads entwined into their existence.

Metal, punk, electronica, and art rock weave through grandiose narratives and cinematic storytelling with a mind-blowing visual delivery. Welcome to the Calva Louise Universe and the release of their new studio album, Edge of the Abyss, which was co-produced by Pendulum's Gareth McGrillen and will be released on July 11 via Mascot Records. The band has also revealed the video for the new single "Aimless" to celebrate the announcement.

Watch it below.

"Aimless" is a reflective catharsis of human communication. Sometimes, it feels like we communicate in monologues where it feels impossible for someone to understand our point of view while simultaneously asking oneself: Do we act the same way towards others?

"The song deals with the fragility of our beliefs but at the same time with the importance of knowing our true essence and standing up for it," Calva Louise's Jess Allanic says.

Calva Louise are currently on tour with Bloodywood. Check out the remaining dates here.

You can trace the Calva Louise project —the "origin" story, if you will — back to 10-year-old Allanic, drawing in her home in Guarenas, on the outskirts of Caracas, Venezuela. There, the genesis of the idea for her story about a hidden world intertwined with our world, began.

The Edge of the Abyss sees characters traveling between different dimensions, with people who mysteriously resemble doubles of each of us, like shadows that seem to stalk us but who, in reality, seek to communicate. Who are these beings? What do they want from us? How can we reach them?

The incredible cinematic sci-fi videos for the album singles show different times and worlds where some characters have encounters with their 'doubles.' "W.T.F" is the prequel of the previous singles: "La Corriente" and "Under The Skin" — all VFX and directed by Jess.

Growing up during Venezuela's most disastrous economic and social crisis, the alternative scene was disappearing. She dreamt of living in the UK. Just before her 16th birthday, Allan made the courageous decision to move more than 7,500km from Caracas to Rouen in France — because it was close to the UK. She was to live in a convent, where she would be told off by nuns for playing guitar along to System of a Down in her bedroom.

Next door was a 1600s "Hogwarts" like school, where she met Alizon Taho. "I was focused on being in a band, and that's exactly when Jess arrived in my class,"  Alizon says.

They would travel to the UK to play shows with limited English and without knowing anyone. They took every experience presented to them — and the consequences that came with them. They took on jobs, stayed in garages, on sofas, and with "friends of friends." Robbed, scammed and taken advantage of, they stayed in £10 motels that were sometimes surrounded by rats. They would often have to move at very short notice. "I had one suitcase and my guitar," Jess says.

"Our album is called Edge of the Abyss because that's how we live. One misstep and everything could fall apart," Jess says. "I emigrated twice, so I've already had a culture shock twice. This hurts a little less because this is where I want to be. I have nowhere to go back to," she continues.

Drummer Ben Parker — who grew up in New Zealand and moved to the UK aged 14 — completed the line-up. They immediately built a captivating relationship. All three had moved to the UK from overseas and found each other.

They built an impressive DIY spirit and formidable reputation on the UK live circuit through performances at Download, 2000Trees, a headline performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds festival, as well as tours with Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Razorlight, Boston Manor, and Bloodywood. The US saw a co-headline tour with Vukovi and festival slots at Welcome to Rockville, So What?, Sonic Temple, Riot Fest, SXSW, and Shiprocked.

2023's independently released mixtape Over The Threshold saw Jess' creativity truly explode. It also caught the attention of Pendulum's Gareth McGrillen who went on to co-produce Edge of the Abyss.

They've picked up support from BBC Radio 1's Rock Show, Introducing Rock, Future Alternative, and Future Artists, Kerrang! Radio, Primordial, Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Kerrang!, and Revolver, who delved into their multiple-worlds-spanning story.

The 10-year-old girl in Guarenas, drawing the first paintings of her sci-fi story, was linked by destiny with the young French child who was dreaming of forming a band and then, years later, had the chance to meet the New Zealander in London, who had picked up the sticks also aged 10, with the plan to be a great musician — they finally have found their way and their home together. Calva Louise, the British multi-cultural band, started with a vision that they passionately continue to grow, creating a fresh and unique experience with each release.

"Our willpower never dies, that's the thing. It's been hard learning every day, but look at the friendship we have. We say that it's like the path of the warrior," Jess exclaims.

Calva Louise Share Video For "La Corriente"

Following on from their electrifying performances at Download Festival in the UK and Vainstream Rockfest in Germany and their U.S. tour with Vukovi, Calva Louise have shared the video for new single "La Corriente," out now on Mascot Records. Watch it Below.

"'La Corriente' is about escaping prefabricated opinions and judgments, affecting our perception of self," the band's Jess Allanic explains. Translated to "the current" in Spanish it can mean the river current but also figuratively it can mean following someone's flow. Allanic adds, "By trying to be agreeable and trying to fit in, I let someone's current drag me away from my own self in the past, undermining my opinions, and eventually feeling trapped in expressing myself. This song for me is regaining that power back."

The music video for "La Corriente" is indirectly part of the sequel of "Under The Skin," as the beginning of the prequel takes place in 1994: the day a young Jonnie had to agree to become an apprentice to a commander coming from the Fractalworld. "'La Corriente' takes place at the show where his fate is sealed, setting the tone of the story that will be unfolding in the next video," the band says. 'We are very grateful to everyone who took part in the video, especially Sunbird Records bar in Darwen that allowed us to shoot those two music videos in four days at their venue. It was a hard but fulfilling experience especially for Allanic as she is directing and editing the videos."

Last month, the band finished a 5-week tour of the U.S. with Vukovi as well as playing Sonic Temple and Welcome To Rockville festivals in the US. Talking about the tour the band says, "Touring with Vukovi was one of the best experiences we've had! They are a wonderful band and amazing people! We also got to see so many great places and meet wonderful new people who travelled all over the U.S. to come to the shows! We had a great time and hope we get to do it again soon!"

They recently released their explosive single "Under The Skin," which was picked up by BBC Radio 1's Introducing Rock Show, Future Alternative, and Future Artist's shows as well as playlisted at Kerrang Radio. They have also previously picked up support from BBC Radio 1's Alyx Holcombe, 6 Music, and Radio X, Metal Hammer, and Rock Sound.

"Under the Skin" was co-written by Allanic and Pendulum's Gareth McGrillen and is a mesmerizing blend of raging metal riffs, swirling electronica, and Allanic's extraordinary ability to flit between ethereal vocals and demonic howls. It swoons in and out of a stunning narrative, with melodic twists along the way that are penetrated by an attack of hypnotic aggression. The song and video follows a complex Sci-Fi narrative and is the introduction of a conceptual storyline about the characters and their counterparts, The video is an incredible feast for the eye and was directed and edited with VFX by Allanic.

The British based band is truly International with its members hailing from across the globe and has been ripping through the U.K. underground for the past few years, driven by the creative vision of Venezuelan born Jess Allanic (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard) along with French born Alizon Taho (Bass/Backing Vocals - France) and New Zealander Ben Parker (Drums/Backing Vocals).

Calva Louise are a captivating live band that has seen their recent live performances take them to another level. 2024 will prove to be the year of Calva Louise.

Calva Louise are gearing up for an explosive 2024, with even more shows on the horizon!

The British based band is truly international with its members hailing from across the globe and has been ripping through the U.K. underground for the past few years, driven by the creative vision of the Venezuelan songwriter Jess Allanic (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard) along with French bassist Alizon Taho (Bass/Backing Vocals) and New Zealander Ben Parker (Drums/Backing Vocals).

BBC Radio 1's Alyx Holcombe declared them one of the "Artists You Need to Know in 2024." They've picked up airplay on BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, and Radio X. Metal Hammer highlighted them as a band proving that metalcore is back and more diverse and exciting than ever, hailing their "guitar licks with hellish screams."

"Under the Skin" was co-written by Jess Allanic and Pendulum's Gareth McGrillen and is a mesmerizing blend of raging metal riffs, swirling electronica, and Jess' extraordinary ability to flit between ethereal vocals and demonic howls. It swoons in and out of a stunning narrative, with melodic twists along the way that are punctured by an attack of hypnotic assertiveness.

This first single release is accompanied by Calva Louise's most ambitious music video production, including a sci-fi movie-style short film, telling a story about intertwined dimensions where the characters are looking to perpetuate their consciousness beyond the real world.

The lyrics of "Under the Skin" follow a complex sci-fi narrative and is the introduction of a conceptual storyline consisting of characters called "Travellers" and their counterparts called the "Doubles."

Allanic says, "The lyrics deal with the obstacles that arise in the human duality as one is looking for freedom and the other is looking to perpetuate their consciousness, but the expectations are not the same for both sides."

The music video shows the Travellers and their Doubles transporting energy capsules which they recovered from the Hybrids-Scorpions (the story's villains) to the Main Hologram Generator, the maker of the "Realworld."

The story focuses on one of the Doubles Vic, that betrayed Commander Jonnie, also a Double, and his crew composed of both Travellers and Doubles, after being infected (and therefore under the control) of a Hybrid-scorpion that sneaked into Jonnie's Hedron-Ship. Jonnie's plans had been interrupted due to the anticipated invasion of the Hybrids that kidnapped multiple Hedron-Ships back in the Mother-Hedron-Ship, where their city was built. Meanwhile, the infected Doubles began to abandon their counterpart Travellers and started to usurp their lives in the holographic "Realworld." The Hybrids then got a free pass to continue sucking the energy of the countless Travellers who had been getting trapped in the "Dreamworld."

The video is a feast for the eye and was directed, edited and with VFX by Allanic.

2023's mesmerising album Over The Threshold was a breakthrough moment for the band. They had built a formidable reputation on the live circuit, with sold-out shows across the U.K. It came off of the back of a headline performance on the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds festival along with tours with the likes of Cassyette, Highly Suspect, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Death Valley Girls, and not to mention, electric performances at Riot Fest (U.S.) and SXSW (U.S.).

All their music videos form part of a larger science-fiction project that guides the Lore behind the songs, providing an immersive experience for the audience. The main concept of duality means the existence of two sides within the human experience: the avatars or "Travellers" fighting like THIRD CLASS CITIZENS to reach the energetic source of their willpower: the "Doubles."

In this story, there are foreign entities, the "Hybrid-Scorpions" (half organic and half machines), who steal life energy from both Travellers and Doubles. Their FEAST IS OVER when the stolen energy is retrieved and attached to weapon-like tools that they use (the Hedron-Bazookas), while the Hybrids have corrupted some Doubles (OPORTUNISTA). The Travellers' aim is to reach their Doubles with the help of the Commanders (SQUARE ONE), since they have been working for decades to unify both sides OVER THE THRESHOLD of duality.

Rock Sound called Third Class Citizen "a masterstroke in atmospheric songwriting and more than enough reason for you to keep your eyes firmly on the band this year."

Writing for Kerrang!, Boston's Manor's Henry Cox said, "I don't know how you'd even begin to describe them – they blend elements of punk and rock and electronica and indie and all sorts of stuff. It's a super-unique sound. Definitely give Calva Louise a go."

Talking about signing to Mascot Records, the band says, "We are honored to be part of the Mascot family, and with their help, we hope to keep developing a high level of immeasurable value for the distribution and promotion of our music around the world through a unique sound for our next album and for our live shows."
