Rick Monroe & The Hitmen Release Explosive Live Version of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”

Southern rock powerhouse Rick Monroe & The Hitmen unleash their blistering live version of Motörhead’s legendary anthem “Ace of Spades,” available now from their upcoming EP Live From The Asylum via Asylum 1212 Records / TLG / Virgin Music Group.

Recorded live in a raw, one-take performance, Live From The Asylum captures the intensity and unpredictability of the band’s live shows. Rick Monroe & The Hitmen bring their own brand of “Hillbilly Metal” combining Southern rock grit, outlaw attitude and heavy rock power — while honoring the spirit of one of rock’s most iconic songs.

The band’s version of “Ace of Spades” received approval from Lemmy Kilmister, whose uncompromising approach to music continues to inspire generations of artists.

“Lemmy was the definition of authenticity,” says Rick Monroe. “We wanted to honor that attitude and energy while putting our own stamp on a song that means so much to rock fans everywhere.”

The release has also received a major shout out from rock and comedy legends  Don Jamieson and Jim Florentine from “That Metal Show”, longtime champions of hard rock and metal.

Known for their relentless touring schedule and explosive performances, Rick Monroe & The Hitmen have built a loyal following across rock, country, and motorcycle communities. With partnerships including Monster Energy, and Tony Chachere’s, the band continues to prove that independent rock & roll is alive and well.

“Ace of Spades” from Live From The Asylum is available on all streaming platforms.

Rick Monroe And The Hitmen - Ace of Spades (Official Video) Below:

The birth of the Hitmen. For years Rick Monroe has been a solo artist hiring players as needed and doing the Nashville shuffle of interchangeable bands, but during covid everything changed. In 2020, Rick and the band, with Bobby Perkins & Alan Beeler, were set to have an amazing year starting off with a West Coast tour when the world shut down. Instead of everyone going their own way, they all stuck together and started streaming live shows from their basements, garages and living rooms. At the same time Rick and Alan Beeler started a standing Tuesday writing meeting which eventually became the bulk of their current album. Through some mutual friends, Rick met Malcolm Springer and they decided to track a few songs and see how it went. Once in the studio it was obvious that this was quickly becoming more of a band situation and when Malcolm brought Jason Bohl in, the sound finally came together. Rick joked one night about how the band was killing it and bam- someone said “The Hitmen”- and that was that.

Rick Monroe & The Hitmen have long been known for blending heartland rock, classic country, and Southern soul into a sound that feels timeless rather than trendy. With “Our Love,” they reaffirm their place in the Americana and country-rock landscape—delivering a song, and a visual experience, rooted in honesty, nostalgia, and community.

Hollywood Vampires Drop Live "Ace of Spades" Video

Hollywood Vampires, the rock supergroup featuring Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry, and Tommy Henriksen, are releasing "Ace Of Spades" as the second single from their upcoming live album At Montreux Jazz Festival. Recorded during the band's 2018 appearance at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival, the track is a powerful tribute to one of rock's most beloved icons — Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead.

Accompanied by a live video filmed in Montreux, the performance captures the raw energy and chemistry that have made Hollywood Vampires a standout live act.

"Lemmy was one of a kind," the band says. "'Ace Of Spades' remains one of the defining songs in rock history, and this performance honors his legacy."

A highlight of the upcoming album, “Ace Of Spades” reflects the band's long-standing mission of celebrating the artists who shaped rock music. Few songs embody the rebellious spirit of rock 'n' roll quite like Motörhead's signature anthem, making it a fitting addition to a set that bridges the Vampires' own material with tributes to their musical heroes.

SVEN GALI UNLEASH LIVE ALBUM RECORDED AT TORONTO’S LEGENDARY EL MOCAMBO

Canadian hard rock heavyweights Sven Gali have announced the release of a ferocious new live album, captured during their sold-out performance on Friday the 13th, September 2024, at the world-famous El Mocambo in Toronto. The record captures the band at full throttle in one of the most iconic rock venues on the planet — and it’s set to drop on another Friday the 13th: June 13, 2025.

With a history as loud as the amps that have powered it, The El Mocambo has hosted some of the most legendary names in rock: The Rolling Stones (who recorded their now-famous 1977 live set there), Stevie Ray Vaughan, U2, The Ramones, Blondie, Elvis Costello, and more. Sven Gali now joins that elite club with a performance that’s raw, unfiltered, and undeniably heavy.

"Recording at the El Mocambo was a full-circle moment for us," says frontman Dave Wanless. "The energy of the crowd, the history of the venue, and the rawness of the night are all captured in this album. It's a testament to our roots and our evolution."

The live album features a thunderous setlist focused on the band’s gold-certified 1992 self-titled debut, delivering full-throttle versions of the songs that made Sven Gali a household name on MuchMusic and beyond:

  • "Under the Influence" – 1993 MuchMusic Heavy Metal Video of the Year

  • "Love Don’t Live Here Anymore" – Top 10 Canadian single and #6 CanCon song of 1993

  • "Tie Dyed Skies" and "In My Garden" – fan favorites with iconic video rotation

  • Plus a searing live cover of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades”.

Recorded live withDave Wanless (vocals), Andy Frank (guitar), Shawn Minden (bass), Sean Williamson (guitar),andDan Fila (drums), the album captures Sven Gali doing what they do best:delivering heavy music with zero compromise and total conviction.

As a special thank you to fans, every purchase or pre-sale of the new live album before June 30, 2025, will be automatically entered into a one-of-a-kind contest to win an official Sven Gali Gold Album Award — the real deal, issued by Music Canada, celebrating their 1992 self-titled record going gold. This isn’t a replica — it’s the same style of award that hangs in industry offices and band studios. One lucky fan is going to own a true piece of Canadian rock history.
