OBSCURA - RELEASE BRAND NEW VIDEO FOR "HERITAGE"

Virtuosic extreme metallers OBSCURA have delivered an early Christmas present for their fans. Today, they release a brand new video for "Heritage", another track from their latest album A Valediction.

As with their previous video for "The Neuromancer", the video for "Heritage" was filmed by Mirko Witzki (Arch Enemy, Powerwolf, Kreator) at the famous Kupfersaal in Cologne, Germany in August 2022. The theatre was built in 1820 and has been protected for decades after being declared a historic monument.

Mastermind Steffen Kummerer comments on the video: “'Heritage' has been plotted as a prequel to the album cover for „A Valediction“. The moment Eliran Kantor captured with his wonderful artwork might be explained most suitably with this brand new video clips. To stay connected while being separated.”

OBSCURA wrote, recorded, and finalized A Valediction during the pandemic. The stipulations of working during this time allowed OBSCURA to work cross-country, tracking each respective part—drums, guitar, and bass—in national studios across The Netherlands, Austria, and Germany. Once the pieces were completed, the recordings were shipped off to award-winning producer Fredrik Nordström and Studio Fredman (In Flames, Architects) in Gothenburg, Sweden, where Kummerer and Münzner completed vocals and acoustic guitars using custom-built ENGL amps. Nordström was also tapped to mix and master. The final result is a deeper, heavier, yet more rounded production.

Lyrically, A Valediction is layered in structure and meaning. The word ‘valediction,’ by definition, deals with goodbyes and farewells. In a way, this is auf wiedersehen to the four-part album series while also addressing complex topics of Kummerer’s personal life. Instead of obscuring issues of loss, death, and abandonment in metaphor and allusion, the German laid bare his torment across songs like "Forsaken," "Solaris," "In Unity," "The Neuromancer," and "In Adversity." But for every line of desperation, he also offers positivity. Indeed, new beginnings—physical, emotional, or environmental—can provide light in the darkness. Lauded artist Eliran Kantor (Testament, Helloween) was brought on board to visualize the leitmotif. The bronze-themed colorway Kantor used exemplifies OBSCURA’s resistance to individual and sonic corrosion.

Line up:
Steffen Kummerer - vocals & guitar
Christian Münzner - guitars
Jeroen Paul Thesseling - bass
David Diepold - drums

OBSCURA - Unveil Music Video For New Single "When Stars Collide (feat. Björn Strid)"

Fast cars and even faster guitars are what you get on OBSCURA's new music video off their upcoming studio album A Valediction! Only one more month to go before the band's 6th studio album will see the light of day on November 19th, and virtuosic frontman Steffen Kummerer and his renowned bandmates unveil yet another new song from their upcoming chef-d'euvre. As one of the more melodic tracks on the album, "When Stars Collide" even features a striking clean vocal guest performance by their label mate Björn "Speed" Strid besides the band's unpreceded polyrhythms and solos.

The music video was once again produced by director Mirko Witzki and does not only offer the possibility to witness the outstanding talent of the musicians during the performance, but also some visual pleasure for car nerds.

Steffen Kummerer comments: "One of the highlights and contested compositions of 'A Valediction' features Björn Strid of our label mates SOILWORK. 'When Stars Collide' recombines an uplifting pace with a rather dark and bitter narrative that leads into to a story for reflection. A sense of delight and feeling of relief covers all mournful misery."

The song is featured on A Valediction that will be available on CD, vinyl, and digitally on November 19th via Nuclear Blast. Pre-order or pre-save it here: https://bfan.link/Obscura

OBSCURA - Release Third Single & Video From Their Upcoming Album

Release  Video For Third Single

Pre-Order A Valediction Here: https://bfan.link/Obscura

The virtuosos of OBSCURA strike again with a third single, taken from the upcoming album A Valediction, which is set to be released on November 19th through Nuclear Blast Records.

This time they reveal the probably most brutal and darkest track from the album - “Devoured Usurper”.

Band leader Steffen Kummerer comments: “Merciless, moldered and putrid alike – “Devoured Usurper” showcases a crude abrasive side to shake some bodies at live shows in the near future. With utter brutality, the song depaints an inevitable reckoning and underlines the death metal roots of OBSCURA.”

And once again the band worked with Mirko Witzki on the video, who also produced “Solaris”, “A Valediction” and previous videos for OBSCURA.

Steffen reveals: “We recorded the music video at famous Stress Studio in Graz, Austria, where also drums for the new album have been tracked. We prepare our live shows and assemble parts of our production in this unique environment before we embark on upcoming tours."
