Side-Line Magazine releases ‘Electronic Bodies’ MegaMix - free download complementing fab 'Electronic Bodies' compilation in aid of Ukraine

Following up September's 'Electronic Bodies' compilation, Side-Line Magazine has released the 'Electronic Bodies – Nightside Sessions' MegaMix by Seattle-based DJ Shane Aungst. Featuring more than 90 minutes of EBM underground beats, this album is available free of charge via Bandcamp with all donations going towards psychological support for Ukraine soldiers and citizens suffering from PTSD.

This two-part MegaMix includes 23 choice tracks from the original 'Electronic Bodies' compilation, created during long evening sessions in October 2023. Parts 1 and 2 each feature their own separate intro, created by New Mexico-based artist
Viscera Drip.

As with other mixes created by DJ Shane Aungst, these mixes dish up rare offerings in the EBM / Aggrotech / Industrial genres, complete with intense layering with sampling and edits. When not doing studio work, sampling, mixes, edits and remixes, he creates original material.

The original
'Electronic Bodies' compilation offers 88 tracks from the electronic / EBM underground, following Side-Line Magazine's tradition of music releases aimed at raising funds for worthy causes, facilitated by the Belgian electro industrial magazine Side-Line.

Curated by Side-Line's Chief Editor
Bernard Van Isacker, 'Electronic Bodies' takes a deep-dive into EBM (Electronic Body Music), New Beat and their contemporary offshoots. The geographic span of participating artists and resonant feedback to this album makes it clear that EBM still resonates worldwide since the genre took off over 40 years ago!

"I recently came across an article detailing the psychological toll of the war initiated by Russia against Ukraine. The repercussions are devastating, with families torn apart and a surge in divorces and suicides. Many are grappling with PTSD, a condition that arises after experiencing traumatic events. Symptoms disrupt daily life, manifesting as flashbacks, avoidance behaviours, and a host of other issues. If we’re in a position to assist, we should," says Bernard Van Isacker.

"While it’s undeniably sombre, it’s essential to recognise our privileged position compared to their plight. Rather than symbolic gestures, I advocate for tangible action. The West should be doing more. The disparity between resources squandered on frivolities and the valiant efforts of the Ukrainian populace defending their homeland infuriates me."

Since launching in 1989, the Belgium-based magazine has released darkwave, postpunk, electropop, synthpop and industrial music compilations, offering artists a platform for wider exposure and spearheading charity initiatives. Notable recent compilations include
'Electronic Resistance - A Darkwave / Post-Punk Compilation From The Ukrainian Underground' and 'Electronic Resistance - Reconstruction'.

Side-Line is also offering an exclusive
'Electronic Bodies' T-shirt and a combo package that includes a limited edition hand-numbered Electronic Bodies flask. Each merch order also includes a compilation download, ensuring that the beats never stop.

'Electronic Bodies - Nightside Sessions' is out now as a free download and by donation, as is the original 'Electronic Bodies' compilation, via
Bandcamp.

6TH CROWD 'Mamenika' single revives Ukrainian folk song to explore displaced persons and stolen childhood

"Some fun fine dynamic electro pop" Big Takeover Magazine

"Combines grooves from dance floors... melodic electro-pop.... obviously needed musical escapade"White Light / White Heat

"Blends a more clubland groove and euphoric rave sonics with the depth of alt-rock and the melodics of pop"Dancing About Architecture

"Captivation woven by Maksymova... a light of pride and echo of the spirit we have all seen in the Ukrainian people; a defiant stand in a time of atrocity" ~ Ringmaster Review

Ukrainian electronic producer 6TH CROWD (a.k.a. Dari Maksymova) presents her new single 'Mamenika', which is derived from an old Ukrainian folk song, but arranged differently by the artist. The accompanying video resulted from an artistic collaboration between Ukrainians who met each other thousands of miles from their home.

This song touches on the lives of refugees fleeing Russian aggression. According to UNICEF, about two-thirds of Ukraine's children have been uprooted by the war, essentially suspending their childhood. They nevertheless eagerly await their chance to return. Despite the dark situation and the heavy feeling that provoked this video, this video offers a seed of hope and the enormous faith Ukrainians hold onto as a nation.

"This song 'Mamenika' is based on an old folk song from Eastern Ukraine, the part of the country that is native for me. I learned this song from a recording of a vocal performance by elderly ladies from Zaporizhia Oblast, where the frontline currently is. “Prybyrajsia, mamienika” was a wedding song that young women would sing to a bride while preparing for her wedding. With faith and hope, they praised the bright future awaiting the bride," says Dari Maksymova.

"Hope and faith are the very threads creating a life jacket for the average Ukrainian now. The hope and faith of those long-gone Ukrainian ladies reached me here in the modern world, where Ukrainians are forced to wait for a bright future with nothing but hope and faith to guide them there. My hope is that by connecting these folk melodies and sounds to modern arrangements, I could connect the hope of our predecessors to their descendants and remind us about the brighter future hopefully awaiting us all."

Last year, 6TH CROWD released the single 'Sokolonko', inspired by an old Ukrainian harvest song, preceded by her 2020 debut 'Avoid The Void' EP. In 2021, she released the 'What Happened' EP via French label 50 Degrees North Recordings, following 2020 singles '1312' and 'Не вивожу (Ne Vyvozhu)'.

The DIY video for 'Mamenika' was a collaboration of Ukrainian refugees currently living in the small town of Cahersiveen in County Kerry, Ireland, where Maksymova runs an online English-language club for Ukrainians, which she started upon realizing how many people left the country with little-to-no exposure to English.

"Besides, I needed a way to connect with other Ukrainians here in Ireland. I needed my tribe. We are a small group, primarily of Ukrainian women who fled the country to protect their children. The more I got to know them, the more their eyes reflected the same thing that tortures me - the bitter shadow of war that you can't shake off, no matter how safe you are now and how cheerful the world around you may be. Seeking to articulate this feeling in a video, I spoke to one of my students – Alla Binieieva, a Ukrainian actress and writer, who fled Kyiv in February with her two children," says Maksymova.

"The idea resonated with her - she wrote the scenario, found actors and also played a role herself. Alla is the only professional actress here; everyone else, including the dog, are Ukrainian refugees we met here. My partner filmed this, while I served as director, producer and editor. Later on, my friend from Kyiv joined efforts, adding some post-production magic to this footage in between air-raid sirens."

As the music plays on, soldiers and volunteers are fighting with Russian occupiers to protect Ukraine's independence. Please consider supporting Ukraine any way you can. Donate to humanitarian missions and trusted charity foundations, spread awareness about this war, and listen to Ukrainian music.

All proceeds from Bandcamp sales will support humanitarian efforts via Vostok SOS, a grassroots organization that coordinates and provides humanitarian aid and psychological support to Ukrainians, helps people evacuate. Ukraine's 'Hospitallers' Medical Batallion and the Come Back Alive Foundation are two other recommended organizations very worthy of your support.

As of August 19, 'Mamenika' will be available everywhere online, including Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer and Bandcamp.

Ukrainian Rock Trio SINOPTIK Release Occult Music Video for Introspective New Single "Black Soul Man"

New Studio Album Coming In 2021

Ukrainian rock trio SINOPTIK are pleased to share the first offering from their upcoming studio LP. The group has released their new single and accompanying music video for "Black Soul Man", which fans can check out here. The occult and otherworldly track is inspired by the band's experiences after relocating from their war-torn home city of Donetsk to Kiev in 2014, after which they found themselves treated like enemies and second-class citizens by their own countrymen.

Lead singer Dmitriy Afanasiev talks about his experience of moving to Kiev.

"We had to leave our home and move to Kiev, and this where we as native Ukrainians were treated as some sort of second class citizens. So many people like us were segregated and oppressed just on the basis of the city of origin, where we were born. We were told that we are different and it's our fault the war started. We were faced with radical social segregation and inequality, in our own country with people of the same race. We do understand that this oppression is initiated and supported by politicians, but society is now responsible for this too"

The music video for "Black Soul Man" illustrates a well told story of a mysterious character, who gives people a second chance to live on this planet. He believes in the goodness of each person, and offers them to rethink their ways and live a new better life. Even though he is killed, he keeps resurrecting and brings people back to life, hoping that one day someone will understand his ideas and implement them in their lives

Dmitriy Afanasiev says this about the meaning behind "Black Soul Man".

"Music is a tool, which should have a clear message - to change the world for better. “It’s your time to change the fate” is our main message in this song, as each of us can change his or her own destiny. And if we are united all together we have the power to alter the fate of humanity and the world. We all can change and make our planet a better place by becoming kinder to each other, more understanding and tolerant. We need to build a new future now. Now is the time for us to unite, but most of the people don’t seem to comprehend that."
