Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown to Release New Album "Shake the Roots"

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown have released their new album, Shake The Roots, which is out today on the band's own Rattle Shake Records! Featuring the lead singles "Ain't None Watered Down" and "Ghostrider", the band's latest studio effort sees them tapping into years of creative passion, shared wisdom, and old fashion grit and perspiration to deliver their most earnest work to date.

"With 'Shake The Roots', we wanted to be in the moment, honest, and try our best not to overthink anything. The whole concept of this record was to get back to our roots as a band and as individual musicians. We each got into music to have fun writing, recording and performing. With this record, we got to do just that.

Bryant adds“To me, this album sounds like where we came from, where we’ve been, and where we’re going. So much of the album has a bluesy tinge to it, then 'Ghostrider' hits and the purists spit their coffee out and throw their chairs through windows."

For Bryant & The Shakedown, returning to their independent roots has been all about getting the best music out with as little obstruction as possible, and letting fans know that they are the driving force that motivates and gives life to everything they do.

"We wanted to start Rattle Shake Records to take more ownership of our art and share a sense of ownership with our supporters. We want our fans to know that when they buy, stream, or share our music, THEY are what is fueling the Shakedown."

To celebrate the release of 'Shake The Roots', Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown are playing an album release show tomorrow night (September 10) at Basement East in Nashville! For fans who can't attend in person, the show will also be streamed live and on-demand via Mandolin right here.

About Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown

Long before playing hundreds upon hundreds of shows and sharing the stage with countless venerable icons of their craft, the members of Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown were just wide-eyed, attentively mesmerized kids listening to records; knowing early on that music would guide their journeys through life. Perhaps it’s for that very reason that the last few years have urged them to ask a question that has become so ubiquitous in our culture, both in America and abroad: “What am I meant to do with my skills? How can I best serve myself and the people I care for? How do I keep the enthusiasm of a kid hearing rock and roll for the first time alive?”

As the Shakedown embarks on relatively uncharted waters at this stage in their career, Bryant feels fortunate to have such a wide-ranging and evolving education. These days, the lessons have come courtesy of the frontman’s studio in Nashville, TN. Tyler & Caleb recently contributed to the new Larkin Poe record, “Blood Harmony.”

Bryant, “I got to do some engineering and co-produce a new record for Larkin Poe! Over the last few years, I really started focusing a lot of my energy on producing records. Caleb, Graham, and I all spent so much time in the studio. Our writing got better and my skills as an engineer/producer have certainly developed in a positive way."

For a band that’s stood on too many decorated stages to count and seen first-hand how the greats always seize the opportunity to push beyond their comfort zone, we shouldn’t be surprised by their new endeavor. It’s just the latest in a long list of lessons learned. If there is one thing we know for certain, the roots run deep with Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown.

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown to Release New Album "Shake the Roots" September 9th!

Following the release of their last album on Snakefarm Records (Pressure) in 2020, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown decided it was time to return to their independent roots. This change in course was inspired both by urgency and an enduring sense of commitment to their audience. Their hope ultimately being that having a greater degree of ownership over the recording, promotion, and release of their music will strengthen the conviction of the band, while tearing down any barriers that could prevent fans from hearing their most earnest work.

The decision was made, Rattle Shake Records was born.

The first single Shakedown fans can look forward to is “Ain’t None Watered Down” which will appear on the label's forthcoming inaugural full length, 'Shake Your Roots.'  Watch the video below.

Says Bryant, about the new single penned by Rebecca Lovell and himself: “When Caleb, Graham, and I started talking about what we wanted to do next, we kept kicking around the idea of getting back to our initial roots as a band. So much of that was steeped in low down blues and rock and roll. One morning I was kicking around a little song idea with my wife and “Ain’t None Watered Down” was born. Everything fell into place so naturally. Once the Shakedown got hold of it, it served as a road map of sorts for the new album."

Although the band has shared the stage with artists such as AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Aerosmith & Jeff Beck, to name a few, one doesn’t get the sense that any of these guys are above driving all day, pushing their own cases, and leaving it all on the stage when given the chance. This is a band that has something to prove and will go to great lengths to do so.

Pre-orders for 'Shake The Roots' will be available soon!

'Shake The Roots' is the bands fifth full length album. It encompasses the energy of their live show and is a testament to the unwavering spirit of the Shakedown. The edges are not sanded down, but the attention to detail isn't lacking one bit. It sounds as if they approached the writing and recording of this record with the same intention they approach their live performances with. It is evident that the band means it and wants it to mean even more to their fans.

“We spend so much time writing and recording, it’s time we start spending more time sharing our art with the people who care. We’ve seen how the soup gets made and are confident that any ingredients we are missing will be obtained. That’s the spirit of this band and has been since day one. We’ve built our fan base in such a grass roots way that it only makes sense. They want to support us and OUR collective cause. When I say “our,” I’m including the fans. They are the reason we feel confident enough to make this leap. This is the next logical step in our trajectory as a band and we are thrilled to offer up 'Shake the Roots' as the first release from Rattle Shake Records.”

Tyler puts this pivot in their business model simply, “We want to release MORE music and we want our fans to know that their support is what is fueling it.”

It’s one thing to choose to become the master of your own destiny, but it’s an entirely different animal to identify the adversity that may come your way in the process. Bryant has grown into the type of person who no longer sees that as a red stop sign. For him, it’s often a useful indicator to keep pushing forward. “I’ve dealt with a lot of anxiety over the years and there are certain techniques that you use to manage it. You learn how to breathe properly. That’s sort of what the Shakedown is doing right now. We’re learning these techniques that will allow us to breathe and thrive as a band. Sure, there’s some insecurity in what we’re doing, but that insecurity is fuel. If you know what you’ve gotta do in your heart, you’ve just gotta do it.”

Bryant remains grateful for the journey thus far and is brimming with excitement for what lies ahead. In his mind, he, Caleb Crosby, & Graham Whitford are neither too far removed from the early days of the band playing clubs overseas, nor an enduring ‘DIY’ mentality for what lies ahead.

SONG FEATURES CHARLIE STARR OF BLACKBERRY SMOKE

NEW ALBUM PRESSURE ARRIVES OCTOBER 16 RELEASE VIA SNAKEFARM RECORDS

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown have just dropped the lyric video for the new song "Holdin' My Breath."

"'Holdin' My Breath' was written long before the pandemic," Tyler Bryant says. "It was written before any of the madness. When we started compiling songs for the new album, this song stood out. The lyrics hit us harder than they did when the song was originally written. While it felt pertinent to the times, it gave us a sense of hope. Adding our friend Charlie Starr from Blackberry Smoke only elevated this feeling. We hope it can evoke the same for the listener as we all hold tight for better days."

The Nashville-based band dealt with a world tipped into turmoil during the global pandemic by creating new music amid lockdown conditions. The end result is their fourth album Pressure, out on October 16 via Snakefarm Records worldwide. Pressure is career-best work forged during turbulent times.

THE ALBUM'S 13 FRESH TRACKS WERE RECORDED IN LOCKDOWN MODE

BAND SHARES VIDEO FOR LEAD SINGLE "CRAZY DAYS"

For Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, the best way to engage with a world tipped into turmoil was to create new music. It's easier said than done in socially distanced times. But for these Nashville-based musicians, the challenge was there to be grasped.

The group will release its new full length Pressure on October 16 via Snakefarm Records worldwide.

Pressure is available to pre-order here. Pre-save the album to your digital streaming platform of choice here.

The song is the first track to emerge. It was written and recorded at the start of lockdown. It's an instinctive howl at the moon — upbeat, hopeful, talking of the times.

"I was imagining nights out with my friends, packed concerts, and so many other things that felt beyond reach," reflects vocalist/guitarist Tyler Bryant. "Music has always allowed us to travel to a different place, and this song made us feel good right away. I truly hope it makes others feel the same."

"Crazy Days" needed to be shared, and it wasn't long before the quarantine clip (featuring Bryant and his wife Rebecca Lovell, one-half of roots rock duo Larkin Poe) was causing an online stir.

But why stop there?

With a house full of gear, plus the support of producer Roger Alan Nichols, a longstanding friend, maybe an EP could be crafted. Four new tracks, possibly even six?

But why stop there?

Like every act, The Shakedown's live schedule was now sitting on the shelf. So here was a chance to focus on the 30-to-40 new songs they had in their locker and turn the EP into something greater.

The result is Pressure, which is their fourth studio album. It features 13 new numbers, including a re-recorded version of "Crazy Days," plus guest appearances from Lovell on three tracks, along with Blackberry Smoke's Charlie Starr on "Holdin' My Breath."

Pressure is a record with a clear theme and a never-say-die spirit.

The band says, "We were backed into a corner with the world shutting down and knew our only response was to turn up loud in a basement and make something. Everyone feels pressure in their life at certain points, it's often difficult to know how to cope, and this was our way of dealing with things. There were countless limitations to making this album in lockdown. But these limitations ultimately fueled us creatively. We had no rules, and the road blocks we encountered forced us to find other ways to the destination we were hell bent on reaching."

TBSD finishes, "Our goal with this album was to empower ourselves to push back against the pressures we were feeling until something beautiful happened. We hope it inspires others to do the same. Now is the time for us to send the needle into the red."

With bassist Noah Denney having recently left the ranks on friendly terms, it was down to Bryant, drummer Caleb Crosby, and guitarist Graham Whitford to cast obstacles aside, reach for the bass when required (since Bryant handles most of these parts) and focus in on their collective mission, with new compositions ("Hitchhiker," "Coastin'") coming to life in the process.

This wasn’t a quest for technical perfection, this was all about bottling the moment, tapping into emotion, and allowing the full range of the material to shine through, from full-tilt rockers to rootsier, more atmospheric moments.

It's career-best work forged in turbulent times.

NEW ALBUM TRUTH & LIES OUT NOW

It's all about the ride, baby!

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown have revealed the video for "Ride," which finds the band knuckling down (and dirty) on their instruments while in the back of a conversion van and plugging into amps stashed in the trunks of their cars.

"Sometimes it's too easy to miss magic moments while you're worrying about the future," says Bryant. "To me, 'Ride' is a reminder to find the good in the present while you're in it. I don’t wanna look back and wish I would've lived life any different. I wanna milk all these moments for all they're worth. Whatever comes next can't affect right now."

The track appears on the band's latest album Truth & Lies — out now via Snakefarm Records.

Additionally, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown will be going live on American Songwriter's Facebook page on May 29 at 3PM ET for the "Behind the Mic" series, where they'll be playing songs and answering fan questions.

TYLER BRYANT & THE SHAKEDOWN SHARE VIDEO FOR "OUT THERE"

NEW ALBUM TRUTH & LIES OUT NOW

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown have shared the video for the powerful song "Out There," which takes on an entirely new meaning amid today's climate.

Making sense of loss is not an easy task," says the band's namesake guitarist. "Sometimes, it's just impossible. Songwriting has always been my way of tumbling through the feelings I struggle to make sense of. 'Out There' has taken on different meanings for me personally over time. Given the current circumstances, this song feels heavier to me than it ever has. I can only imagine what so many people are dealing with right now. There was a lot of love put into this song and I hope every bit of that is transferred and felt by anyone out there who needs it right now."

The track appears on the band's latest album Truth & Lies — out now via Snakefarm Records.
