Dead By Wednesday, Zetro, Ellefson, Earth & Gang Green drummer unveils deeply personal solo project rooted in raw performance, heartbreak, family, and authenticity
OPUS, the powerhouse drummer known for his work with Dead By Wednesday, Zetro, Ellefson, Earth and Gang Green, releases his new solo acoustic-rock single “Slip Away” today across all major streaming platforms. The accompanying official music video, directed by Sal DelGreco, is also available now.
“Slip Away” offers the first taste of OPUS’ forthcoming full-length solo album, Purging the Demons, arriving November 6, 2026.
A deeply personal collection born from one of the most difficult periods of OPUS’ life, Purging the Demons explores loss, love, heartbreak, anger, stress, and the challenge of maintaining family connections through separation. Rather than hiding behind polished production or studio perfection, OPUS embraces the rawness of the performances and the emotions that inspired them.
“In a world obsessed with perfection, Purging the Demons is my reminder that truth lives in the cracks," says OPUS.
The album represents a deliberate return to an old-school approach to recording. OPUS wrote, recorded, and performed 99% of the instruments on the record, with the songs captured without vocal tuning, quantizing, or drum replacements. The imperfections are part of the point leaving the human element intact and allowing the performances to speak for themselves.
Purging the Demons was written over the course of approximately a year and a half during a long, dark, and challenging period in OPUS’ personal life. The resulting songs transform those experiences into an honest and unfiltered musical statement.
All songs on Purging the Demons were mixed by Max Scialdone, who worked with OPUS throughout the project to preserve the raw character and emotion of the recordings while bringing the album to its final form.
At a time when music is increasingly shaped by digital processing, algorithms, filters, and artificial perfection, Purging the Demons takes the opposite approach. It is a record about being human, messy, emotional, imperfect, and real.
With “Slip Away,” OPUS opens the door to a solo album that isn't about hiding the cracks. It's about embracing them.
