South Carolina alternative rock duo The Yets presents 'Enemy', the final single released ahead of their debut album 'Pinup Girl', out on February 7. Revolving around internal conflict, self-destruction, and the battle against one’s own darker impulses, 'Enemy' wrestles with the destructive forces that lie within.
The Yets features the creative synergy of guitarist-producer Craig Anderson Snookand vocalist Robin Wilson, both based in Myrtle Beach.
"Realizing your greatest adversary is yourself presents something we all confront at some point. The idea of being one’s “own worst enemy” is central; entrapment in a vicious cycle of self-sabotage and isolation," says Robin Wilson.
"Lyrically exploring the intoxicating allure of solitude, dancing alone symbolizes both freedom and self-deception. Meanwhile, lurking in the background is the ever-present enemy within waiting to resurface, stronger perhaps than ever before. Plagued by internal warfare forged of past fears and tendencies, corrosive thoughts haunt us even as we attempt to break free from our former selves, now feeling distant and ghost-like."
Despite the dark tone, there’s a sense of clarity emerging from the struggle. Acknowledging what once haunted them no longer wields such power, a new spirit signifying growth and self-awareness evolves. The darkness remains, but is now understood rather than feared in the struggle for self-liberation.
The song flirts with the paradox of freedom and destruction, where overcoming internal demons becomes the path towards self-realization. Themes of identity, inner strength, and transformation are woven throughout, with the final message being one of confronting, accepting, and ultimately moving beyond the internal chaos to a place we are no longer the “Enemy”.
As of January 8, 'Enemy' will be available from fine online music stores and streamable via Spotify. The full album, out February 7, can be obtained digitally or on CD directly via Bandcamp.
