'Bottle Music For Broken People' gives fans the first cross-sectional look at what they can expect from the new label moving forward.
Speaking on Bottles To The Ground first compilation release, Fat Mike shares
"We’re trying out a new thing where we put a bunch of different songs by a bunch of different bands on the same record and see what happens.”
The release of the new collection is highlighted by the music video for brand new track from ska punk legends, Fishbone. The video for the new track, titled "All We Have Is Now", can be viewed below. "All We Have Is Now" is the first Fishbone release with Chris Dowd back in the band since 1994. The current line-up features 4 of 6 original members, making this the first new song recording with these members in 29 years.
Speaking on their brand new track and accompanying music video, Norwood Fisher of Fishbone shares
"Fishbone and NOFX go waaaay back. We’re in the mutual admiration club, great appreciation for our individual approaches to the music that we’re known for. I don’t remember exactly when Fatty 1st expressed interest in producing Fishbone but it seems like it was a long time ago. A random encounter in a parking lot in more recent history, led to the current release. Mike is batshit crazy but highly functional, with incredible integrity and follow through. Just right for Fishbone’s batshit crazy, dysfunctional world, yet we are this functional enough to make it this far, asses! It was a long time coming and we hope you love it like we do. Enjoy if you will…
Sometimes a note to self finds its way to the song form. 'All We Have Is Now' is a prime example. Philosophically, it’s far from a new concept. Eckard Tolle, Allan Watts, Joseph Campbell and many others have contemplated and pontificated on this topic. The pursuit of self inquest, in the hopes of experiencing an extended, extraordinary sense of Being, the song, wrapped in a fully blown Fishbone party, reminds me to take advantage of the gift of the ever present now. Feel free to interpret it however it speaks to you. Ain’t nuttin’ buttah potty…"
The 'Bottle Music For Broken People' compilation is just the start for a stacked year of releases from the new label. Fans can look forward to more new music coming from Codefendants, Melvinator, The Meffs, Fishbone, Ras-1, Doom Scroll and Tommy and June over the coming months. Be sure to follow Bottles To The Ground on Instagram to keep up with all new releases.
“One more round then it’s Bottles to the Ground, smashing of the glass, an imperfect perfect sound.“ - Fat Mike
ABOUT FISHBONE
Fishbone is a band. Fishbone is a Familyhood. Fishbone is Red Hot.
Born out of the punk rock scene of Los Angeles, CA, Fishbone came out as a force of songs and live energy, a feeling that continues today. Signed to Columbia Records in 1984, they went on to release 4 critically acclaimed albums and numerous EPs and singles. They have toured the world headlining their own shows as well as festivals - always leaving people stunned and declaring it “one of the best shows ever seen.” A constant statement that still is used today from fans to artists.
After years of touring and rotating members, 2023 finds Fishbone back to their most solid line up which includes original members, Angelo Moore (vocals/Saxophone), Chris Dowd (Keys/Vocals), Dirty Walt (Trumpet/Vocals), Norwood Fisher (Bass), rounding it out with veteran Fishbone drummer, John Steward, and Mark Phillips.
With a new EP recorded and produced by Fat Mike of NOFX and coming out on Bottles To The Ground later this year, Fishbone is getting ready to reclaim their live touring throne. No doubt they will continue to leave the audience wanting more and thinking more, leaving their mark and influence on younger bands, and paving the foundation and legacy they have been laying for decades. #FuckRacism
ABOUT BOTTLES TO THE GROUND
Fat Wreck Chords now has a new imprint Bottles to the Ground. Fat Mike created this label for both his and NOFX’s music projects such as Codefendants and Melvinator, as well as other bands that do not fit the traditional Fat sound. This label is a collective not solely owned by Fat, but by all members of NOFX.
Fat Mike explains the origins of Bottles to the Ground:
“When NOFX first played Amsterdam in 1988, we were invited to the closing night of one of the most infamous squats in the city. Not just a squat, this was a punk bar that instructed everyone to smash all glasses and bottles on the street after we emptied them. Apparently there would be no repercussions from the city because no one owned it. So, we drank all night along with hundreds of punks and every fucking bottle got smashed. To me, it looked like how punk rock music should feel. Bottles to the Ground is the beauty of disaster.”
