Dirty O'Keeffe (Stone Sour/Faith No More/Lagwagon) Drop New EP 'Heavy Water' + Title Track Visualizer For "Heavy Water"

Rock supergroup Dirty O'Keeffe (consisting of members Christian Martucci of Stone Sour, Billy Gould of Faith No More, Dave Raun of Lagwagon, and Steve Shepard of Trash N' Privilege) have today dropped their new EP, 'Heavy Water' (with artwork done by The Offspring's Jonah Nimoy). In celebration of the release, the band also released the visualizer for the EP title track "Heavy Water". Speaking on today's news, guitarist and vocalist Christian Martuccishares:

"I’m so glad Dave called me to be a part of this. I had a great time working with everyone. There was no overthinking and no agenda… just friends making noise. I loved every minute of it."

Billy Gould commented: "The pandemic had a few bright spots for me… and this was one. Great bunch of guys who went into this with genuine enthusiasm. What’s not to like?"

Dave Raun said: "Having had played with all these guys separately before, I was really excited about us all being a part of the same project. We just made music we wanted to make with zero pressure or expectation and lots of laughs. Everybody just brought their thing to the table and it’s a perfect blend."

Steve Shepard also chimed in: "I have no idea how I fooled these guys to play music with me. Every step of the process, from planning to writing to recording, has been a blast."

CELESTE Release New Music Video For "(A)"

French underground avant-gardists CELESTE have released a new music video for their song "(A)", taken from their sixth studio album Assassine(s), released back in January of this year. The striking video expresses the essence of the song, both visually and emotionally, adding another level of depth to the already charged piece.

'(A)' is CELESTE’s most experimental track to date, launching with drony synths written by frontman Johan. With a post-rock edge, this slow-burn instrumental song has a soundtrack-like quality. The cinematic ambiance is emphasized by the two lead guitars, intertwined like two characters in a somber story, enrichened by a guest appearance from Katsuta of HEAVEN IN HER ARMS.

Johan Girardeau comments on the new video:
We're really glad to complete the triptych of videos that we started a year ago with 'Des Torrents de Coups' and 'Le Coeur Noir Charbon'. This video clip means a lot to us. We've been showcasing it live during the Assassine(s) release tour and we are looking forward to unleashing it online. This piece of artwork reflects our long-built aesthetics. As a song, '(A)' became a very important song to us as well, showing our will to widen our musical influences, with these shoegazy, post-rockish hints which are definitely new ground for CELESTE.

Sound Pollution Update! New Music Out Today from Finnegan's Hell!

Finnegan's Hell Release

New Single & Video for "Mickey Finn"

New Full-Length Album to be Released November 25th!

The runaway train Finnegan's Hell is accelerating!

Single number two from the upcoming album, 'One Finger Salute', is an ultra-fast pogo pleaser called "Mickey Finn"; a tale about being slipped something in your drink and dealing with the consequences.

The song is based on a true story, and the video - released simultaneously - is not suitable for sensitive viewers.

Watch the Official Music Video for "Mickey Finn"

The long-awaited new album 'One Finger Salute' by Finnegan's Hell, will be released November 25th.

Its title track appeared as a single a few weeks ago and received rave reviews all over Europe as well as in the US and Canada. Influential London Celtic Punks wrote "we’re happy to report they have all the same swagger, intensity and attitude as before" and concludes "this is evidence someone will have to set a new place at the Celtic-Punk top table!".

Back home in Sweden, Finnegan's Hell is often called "The Swedish Pogues" by the press. Even though the band has cranked up the volume and significantly increased the tempo, "Mickey Finn" is a well-crafted song with the same kind of infectious melody and straightforward lyrics that was the trademark of Mr. MacGowan and his men.

The video for "Mickey Finn" was directed by Michael Ek, and this time he has gone all in. Sensitive viewers be aware!

Sound Pollution Update! New Music Out Today from Hexed

Today, Finally, the Magnificent Hexed Album

'Pagans Rising' is Released to the World!

Watch the Lyric Video for "Pagan's Rising"

HEXED – The Swedish Symphonic Progressive Metal band is back with their second album 'Pagans Rising'.

Along with the powerful lead vocals of Tina Gunnarsson, this theme album has great songwriting mixed with strong choruses and guttural growl.

Written with inspiration by the history of Sweden’s witch-hunting hysteria in the late 17th century, 'Pagan's Rising' is a perfect blend of spellbinding guitar melodies, chugging riffs, dark symphonic orchestrations and progressive elements.

Behind the unique sound of this masterpiece is the talented mixing/mastering engineer Ronnie Björnström (Sorcerer, Aeon etc.)

'Pagan's Rising' is a much heavier, darker version of HEXED.

Elle King Releases Featured Track "I Know Where I've Been" to Lead Countdown to Netflix Film "Luckiest Girl Alive

ELLE KING RELEASES FEATURED TRACK “I KNOW WHERE I’VE BEEN”
TO LEAD COUNTDOWN TO NETFLIX FILM LUCKIEST GIRL ALIVE

Netflix Film Based On New York Times Best Selling Novel Available Oct. 7

Singer-songwriter Elle King brings her searing vocal to “I Know Where I’ve Been,” a featured song in the forthcoming Netflix film Luckiest Girl Alive. The song, available today, is the only original song on the soundtrack which was produced by Hall Of Fame Songwriter Linda Perry. Written by Perry, the powerful song of freedom and release plays during the final credits of the film.

“I was instantly drawn to this song when I heard it,” said King. “Linda was one of the first people in this industry to see something in me when I was 19 years old. I look up to her so much and she’s carved a path for so many artists like me. She makes powerful music and it’s pretty dang cool she lets me be a part of it.”

Luckiest Girl Alive is a mystery drama based on the 2015 New York Times bestselling novel by Jessica Knoll and stars Mila Kunis, Connie Britton, Justine Lupe, Chiara Aurelia, Jennifer Beals, Finn Wittrock, Scoot McNairy, Thomas Barbusca, Carson MacCormac, Dalmar Abuzeid, and Alex Barone.

King and Perry have collaborated in the past, most recently in the Golden Globe Nominated film Dumplin. Perry produced that soundtrack which features a duet with Dolly Parton and King on the track “Holdin’ On To You.”

King is currently climbing the country charts with her new single “Worth A Shot,” featuring her friend and Grammy nominated artist Dierks Bentley. She continues touring this fall with Chris Stapleton as part of his All American Roadshow Tour.

About Elle King:
Multi-platinum, award-winning recording artist Elle King has enjoyed nearly 1.7 billion streams worldwide. King spent the better part of 2021 supporting her #1 hit “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home) with Miranda Lambert, which has amassed over 275 million on-demand streams worldwide, and hit #1 on both Billboard’s Rock Digital Sales Chart and Country Digital Sales Chart upon release. The track not only garnered a nomination for Musical Event of the Year at the 2021 CMA Awards, but earned King her fourth Grammy nomination (Best Country Duo/Group Performance). Additionally, the track marked King as the first female artist in history to have scored four radio No. 1 singles on different formats including Adult Pop Songs, Adult Alternative Songs, Alternative Songs and Country Airplay charts.

Her debut album Love Stuff featured her breakthrough single “Ex’s & Oh’s,” which earned her two GRAMMY nominations and is certified 4x times platinum. The breakthrough single hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs Chart, topped the AAA, Hot AC, and Alternative Radio charts, leading King to become the second female artist in 18 years to reach No. 1 at the latter format. Her single “Shame,” featured on her second studio album Shake The Spirit marked King’s fourth radio #1 single.

Fred Abong releases 'Yellowthroat' album featuring Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE, Kristin Hersh Trio)

This is Abong's sixth album, having self-released five on his own, as well as two EPs. Abong’s music has been described as a cross between “ragged Replacements and lyric-driven Bob Dylan,” and as “Elliott Smith with balls”.

Shortly ahead of this, Abong presented the song 'Passenger Side' along with a self-produced video, following earlier singles 'Twister' and 'Aurora', released ahead of his recent UK and US tours, where he supported Kristin Hersh.

Fred Abong is a Filipino-American artist, whose music represents an endearing mix of indie-alternative rock and folk singer-songwriter. His work is characterized by existential and romantically focused poetic lyrics, a hypnotic, sometimes gravelly, baritone voice, off-kilter and down-tuned guitars and unconventional song structures. He has a raw and unpolished production aesthetic with an overall direct, though deceptively imaginative and oblique, presentation.

“When I wrote 'Yellowthroat', I was (and still am, honestly) in a very romantic way. Of course, love and romance are impossible to straightforwardly convey, but I chose the straightforwardly romantic classical guitar as the primary instrument for the record, nonetheless. I grew up hearing my older siblings playing it around the house, and at an early age fell in love with its inherent drama and melancholy. I also learned to play the classical guitar (in my own way) but never felt compelled to write or record with it until now. I guess I had to wait until I was truly in love to feel I could approach it properly," says Fred Abong.

"Aside from attempting to capture the subtleties of new love, I also knew that I wanted 'Yellowthroat' to be more than just a collection of songs in the tradition of Leonard Cohen et. al. This is why I asked my pal Rob Ahlers (50 Foot Wave, KH Trio), a master drummer and all-around musical savant, if he would lend both his song-oriented ear and his multi-talented musical touch to the record. After I wrote all the songs and recorded the guitar and vocals at home between Dec 2020 and March 2021, Rob got busy, adding his parts and shaping the general direction of the production in fits and starts over the next year. The result is my version of an old fashioned crooner record (‘In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning’ was on heavy rotation during the writing phase, hence the cover). It’s a tribute to heartache and romance, existentially framed, colored with punk rock edginess, and filtered through a difficult-to-place, vapor-wave production.”

Until returning to music full-time, Abong spent nearly a decade immersed in academia, completing a Ph.D. in Humanities and working as an adjunct professor in the Religious Studies, Philosophy, and English Departments at various universities. He has also been a practicing Vedic astrologer for the past 20 plus years.

'Yellowthroat' is out now, available on CD and 12-inch 160-gram black vinyl, as well as digitally via Bandcamp, where the record is available in all formats.

SELECT PRESS FEEDBACK
“There is a purity and honesty in his approach that gets more and more intense with each track. It feels like you’re riding a wave of energy” ~ Higher Plain Music

“Thoughtful, minimalist, sometimes even bleak, but all the better for it. The ghost of Syd Barrett watches over everything... ‘Yellowthroat’ takes another sonic leap forward” ~ Real Gone Rocks

“An almost painful intimacy to his words despite the oblique phrasing and imagery he conjures” ~ Isolation Records

“An ascent out of singer-songwriter folk territory into something bordering on punk and psychedelia” ~ Fatea Magazine

“Beautifully raw, uncluttered and quite cinematic, these songs could easily serve as the soundtrack to a Jim Jarmusch film. Melodically infectious and lyrically mysterious, they beckon the listener back to experience them over and over again” ~ Newport Naked

California art-soul outfit SEAL PARTY presents 'You'll Be Fine', a ballad of resilience and tenacity

"A dynamic duo where their soul music talents can shine when given the opportunity to create for themselves. Their style can be compared to greats of the genre, such as Sly and the Family Stone, Dexys Midnight Runners, and The Isley Brothers" ~ Vents Magazine

"Fun improvised sense of music collectivism... Soulful, optimistic and uplifting, Seal Party's music packs a powerful mix of rock, soul and R&B, created and performed with taste, along with a good sense of groove" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"The uplifting lyrics combined with the sweet harmonies are smooth and calming... a three-minute escape from stressful realities to reflect on life’s silver linings and appreciate every minute despite ups and downs" ~ Music-News.com

Oakland-based art-rock collective Seal Party present 'You'll Be Fine', a stirring tale of resilience and tenacity in trying times. No matter what markets plummet, how currencies devalue and what logistical calamities clog up the supply chain, the human spirit endures.

The album's closing track, 'You'll Be Fine' culminates in a jaw-dropping solo by trumpeter Rich Armstrong, who has toured and recorded with Spoon, Train, Thomas Dolby, Boz Scaggs, Josh Groban and Tony! Toni! Tone!, among many other top-shelf artists. San Francisco Symphony Orchestra cellist Evan Kahn also appears on this track, as well as multi-instrumentalist Liam Wesley Craddock.

Premiered on the big screen at the Chabot Theater in northern California, the accompanying video features a party of two -- a man and his trusty canine pal. Director Alex Largusa enrolled actor Michael Cahalan and his real-life dog (Moose Cahalan) to bring this story to the screen.

Following up the singles 'Maison' featuring R&B organ wizard Chris Rob (Kanye West, Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Anita Baker) and the soul-infused piano-based 'Kaleka', this is the latest offering from Seal Party's debut album 'MMXXII'. Recorded by Liam Wesley Craddock and Chris McGrew, the 'MMXXII' album was mixed by McGrew and Jaimeson Durr (Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani, Hope Sandoval).

"The idea for 'You'll Be Fine' came from a hypothetical -- what happens if everything collapses?," says frontman Kevin Seal, who co-wrote the song with Seal Party's Chris McGrew.

"What if our current economic system melts down? As horrifying as that idea may be, it is possible. It almost happened in 2008. If it all tumbles, we'll be relying on our neighbors -- our immediate neighbors -- and finding our own food. We'll be fishing, hunting, and canning. We'll be bartering and swapping. And as idealistic as this sounds, I think people are both tougher and more cooperative than we are often told to believe. If this happens, you will actually be fine," says Kevin Seal.

As a songwriting-production duo, Chris McGrew (drums/production) and Kevin Seal (keyboards/vocals) formed Seal Party after many years of helping other artists realize their visions. On their debut record, these studio veterans let their own voices come to the fore, revealing and beauty, both rock and groove. Epic melodies soar over tasty chords to tell their stories.

After years of being session musicians, quarantine culture finally gave McGrew and Seal access to an empty recording studio -- namely Studio C of Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco (AKA Wally’s HydeOut), in the room of the former Wally Heider Studios, where artists ranging from the Dead Kennedys to the Grateful Dead to Herbie Hancock recorded some of their most legendary sides.

'MMXXII' is a meaningful and timeless collection, filled with improvisation. Every song on the album involves an array of world-class musicians. Evoking ‘70s soul, rock and R&B while maintaining a raw and exploratory approach, this eclectic work meshes unusual songwriting and musicianship that is at once playful and rebellious. Eclectic and beautiful, this album is continuous, expansive, engrossing. Stretching across genre boundaries, jazz luminaries and punk stalwarts join together to create a series of unique songs.

This record involves world-class horn players, violinists, organists and vocalists. An all-star cast of 22 collaborators includes music royalty like Isaiah Sharkey (D’Angelo, John Mayer, Patti LaBelle) and Keyon Harrold (D’Angelo, Maxwell), punk icon Larry Boothroyd (Jello Biafra, Victims Family), bassist Uriah Duffy (Whitesnake, Fantastic Negrito), Ben Misterka (Collectivity), saxophonist Kenneth Whalum (Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake), trumpeter Rich Armstrong (Spoon, Boz Scaggs, Thomas Dolby), guitarist Jonnie Axtell (Psychefunkapus, Dee Snider, Tone Loc) and saxophonist Daniel Casares (Atta Kid, Jazz Mafia, the New Mastersounds).

'MMXXII" album is out now, available everywhere digitally, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Bandcamp..The digital version will be released via New Age Distribution and the CD released by X Racer Productions.

German postpunk icons PINK TURNS BLUE bring October-December tour dates, along with 'TAINTED Tour-2022 EP'

"One of the most ethically driven and environmentally conscious post-punk artists of our time... powerful" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Consistent purveyors of quality guitar-laden post punk and dark-bent indie rock... one of the most honest and most direct enduring acts in post punk today" ~ Destroy // Exist

"The timeless message is driven home with a timeless sound composed with refined effect" ~ Post-Punk.com

"They have had high ranks in the charts and still have a place deep in the heart of many fans" ~ Reflections of Darkness

"When it comes to actual darkwave, Berlin’s Pink Turns Blue are rightly regarded as one of the founding acts... one of the finer exemplars of continental postpunk" ~ CVLT Nation

Trailblazing darkwave-postpunk pioneers Pink Turns Blue are at the half-way mark of their long-awaited TAINTED 2022 tour as they cross North America and select cities in the UK, Germany and Spain. Especially for this tour, the trio has also released the 'TAINTED Tour-2022 EP'.

Riding on the strength of their 'Tainted' album, released in late 2021 via Orden Records, and on the trail of their recently released single 'Not Gonna Take It', Pink Turns Blue brings this music to fans from one coast to another while also sharing four new songs that reflect their emotional state in today’s world.

Formed in 1985 in the first generation of gothic rock and named after a Hüsker Dü song, today Pink Turns Blue is Mic Jogwer (vocals, guitar), Paul Richter (drums) and Luca Sammuri (bass). Their debut album 'If Two Worlds Kiss' advanced the darkwave sub-genre while becoming a seminal post-punk album. Emerging from the fear and uncertainty of Cold War Germany, they have since released a dozen full-length LPs.

Both the 'Tainted' LP and the new EP relate to a world in havoc and the seemingly powerlessness of today's youth to take over the world and change it for the better. But this album is also a call to never give up, to never lose faith or the understanding that making this world just a bit better every day is what makes our lives worth living.

With potent singles such as 'Not Even Trying', 'You Still Mean Too Much To Me', 'There Must Be So Much More' and 'So Why Not Save The World' address such themes as climate change, its effects, the reaction to it, the split within society, isolation, health risks and financial uncertainty.

“Since Pink Turns Blue presented the ‘Tainted’ album, things have changed for the worse, or have become more desperate and we have used this time to develop a few songs from the ‘Tainted’ sessions further - songs that didn’t make it onto the album since they were not ready yet, says In defiance of the global trend that the powerful use any excuse to enforce their agenda and defend their accumulation of benefices, more and more people see through it and stand up – for themselves and never give up to make this world just a little bit better," says Mic Jogwer.

"Since February 24 (actually my birthday), when Russia invaded Ukraine, things became even worse. Instead of slowly getting back to “normal” and trying to get our humanity’s shit together and to alleviate climate change and the consequential effects, now we have to cope with war and an energy, food and financial crisis (again) with the risk of losing the battle for equality, climate change, peace... you name it. So now the world is not only TAINTED but is in DISARRAY".

The 'TAINTED Tour-2022 EP' is out now everywhere online. 2021's 'Tainted' LP is also available via Apple Music and Spotify, with CD and limited-edition vinyl editions available via the band's website. Tour tickets can be ordered at https://pinkturnsblue.com/live-dates.

Dante-inspired gothic electro-rock trio DISPEL presents 'Flames of Greed' from forthcoming 'Inferno' LP

"Old-school style gothic electro evoking both classical darkness and mysticism. An authentic taste of medievalism... Everything here speaks perfection and commitment" ~ Post-Punk.com

"Haunting and huge...Dispel soars defiantly.... Highly melodic, this song emits incredible talent" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Buoyed by soaring powerhouse vocals, this music manages to both balance the extremes and convey the chaos of it all. Combining the expression of gut-wrenching feeling and true despair with instrumentation, Dispel’s sound and style are undeniably their own" ~ The Record Stache

“Somewhere between Mallory’s Morte D’Arthur, a Tarot card reading and a late night session of Dungeons & Dragons. It is a strange but rewarding path” ~ Dancing about Architecture

Dark electro-goth collective Dispel presents the single 'Flames of Greed', previewing their sophomore conceptual album 'Inferno'. Based on Dante’s literary masterpiece, it features a song for each layer of sin existing in the infernal realm.

On this album, Dispel follows Dante and his guide Virgil down each layer of the Nine Hells, dedicating a song to each level of mortal sin. Sprinkled with diabolical personalities from ancient mythology and fantasy literature, this undertaking took two years to complete.

Based in Cleveland, Ohio, Dispel is made up of Ravensea, Sean Gallows and Scott Dispel, a founding member of the old-school hardcore band Face Value and former drummer for TEXTBEAK, who is also a studio engineer, producer and award winning nightclub DJ.

The 'Flames of Greed' video, directed and edited by filmmaker Rafeeq Roberts, sees vocalist Ravensea play the part of the diabolic and tormenting empress of greed Fierna, her powerful voice serenading the fallen souls who succumbed to greed in the material world, delivering their eternal fate in Hell. This clip also features actress / model Robin O'Malley, Goth Jen Brunfel, Levie Mckenzie, Colt Mire, Aaron Brunfel and Scott Dispel as the Plague Dr.

Laced with dark melodies, vocal depth and spiritual quests, Dispel creates a unique musical narrative, channelled through the prism of historic lore, mythology and mysticism.

Earlier, Dispel released the shimmering gothic metal 'Journey Into Limbo' and 'Glasya’s Heresy (Acoustic version)', a deep acoustic ballad with saga-laden video, filmed in South Africa. Kate Farquharson's rich piano prowess complements Ravensea's haunting voice as she sings of the sorrows and temptations of this forbidden realm.

Produced by Dispel, 'Inferno' was mastered at The Cage Studios by Martin Bowes of Attrition, well known for his work with Nine Inch Nails, Psychic TV and Steven Severin (Siouxsie & the Banshees).

"Influenced by an equal mix of darkwave beats, Medieval literature, and conceptual rock albums, the music behind Dispel was born. But soon after the completion of our debut album ‘Lore’, the world went on lockdown! So we headed back into the studio to create another conceptual album, but we had to up the ante. A spiderweb-ridden bookshelf held the key - “Dante’s Inferno” in its timeless glory," says Scott Dispel.

"Putting a literary masterpiece to music was no small task, we had to do it justice through attention to detail, utilizing actual texts and adding mythological personalities, herein combining rock music and world literature."

Dispel has roots in the early 90’s hardcore punk scene, when a German underground goth-Industrial club inspired Scott Dispel to transition from performing with Face Value to pursuing electronica. Inspired by Sisters of Mercy, Clan of Xymox, Depeche Mode and VNV Nation, he formed Dispel after gaining a music degree and recording studio experience. Dispel took form upon meeting Ravensea, a Berklee vocal performance / music therapy major with a powerful voice and insight into music's power to transcend language and cultural barriers.

'Flames of Greed' is out now, available across online music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. On October 12, the full 'Inferno' LP will be released on CD, vinyl (with full color insert) and digitally.

AFTERMATH Warns There is "No Time to Waste" with New Single and Video

Stream "No Time To Waste" HERE

"'No Time to Waste' –words that everyone should live by in their daily lives. But the song is not about that. Rather it’s about all of us together having no time to waste as a free species. Everyone you talk to today says something isn’t right in the world and most can’t point out what it is that makes them feel that way. Their gut tells them something isn’t right. This song is about what we feel isn’t right with the world today and we urge people to wake up before it’s too late. It isn’t about being woke, but being awake. The song is at its core about unity and coming together to defeat our mutual enemy. Every great story has a hero and a villain. We the people are the hero in this song." says Kyriakos "Charlie" Tsiolis.

WATCH Aftermath - No Time to Waste (Official Lyric Video):

The band is currently putting the finishing touches on No Time To Waste, their forthcoming third album in a trilogy, on which the title track described above is included. The new album is a departure from the previous dark, concept album installment in the trilogy. It also includes the band’s re-imagining of the John Lennonclassic, "Give Peace a Chance".

Chicago based Aftermath, fronted by Kyriakos "Charlie" Tsiolis, formed in October 1985 when Charlie and his schoolmate Steve Sacco (Guitar) got together. This early incarnation with Adam (Bass) and Ray Schmidt (Drums) released their first demo in 1986 featuring “Sentenced to Death”, “Revenge”, “Shotgun” and “The Aftermath”.

In 1987, they unleashed their second demo entitled Killing the Future featuring the tracks “When Will You Die”, “Going No Place”, “Chaos”, “Meltdown” and “War for Freedom”. The band pursued a mind-blowing speed and technical brand of thrash that soon set them apart from the pack and in the process made them a pioneering crossover thrash band.

The tracks "War for Freedom" & "When Will You Die" were both featured on the British Metal Forces magazine_compilation LP Demolition: Scream Your Brains Out in 1988. Their appearance on the Metal Forces compilation further expanded the band's international appeal.

By 1988, the band's musical direction was changing, and Adam's raw and simple bass lines would soon be replaced with complex and technical bass parts handled at first by John Lovette. Ironically, John never played bass on any Aftermath recording and was not even a bass player. He wanted to join the band so badly, however, that he came to the audition with a friend's bass he had just started to play. The speed and complex playing he displayed were like nothing the members had ever seen before on bass. He landed the gig that day. When the band decided it was time to add a second guitarist, Lovette told his bandmates of his desire to switch to guitar and for the first time he came clean he was a guitar player pretending to be a bass player all along. His bass playing was surpassed by his guitar skills and the band found its second guitar player, but unfortunately the search for a bass player was forced to resume. Luckily, the search (for the time being, anyway) ended with Danny Vega. His warm and precise playing was the perfect complement to the guitar playing of Lovette and Sacco and worked amazingly well with Schmidt's powerful drumming. With Lovette handling most of the song writing duties, Aftermath was about to make an unbelievable musical change.

By 1989, that change brought on by Lovette's writing and the band's musical tastes and stylings had slowed and matured as evidenced by the release of the underground classic demo Words That Echo Fear. Danny Vega was replaced on bass by Chris Waldron. The band went onto to become a trailblazing progressive/technical thrash band in the years that followed.

In 1990, based on the huge international success of the Words that Echo Feardemo, the metal label RoadRacer Records (a subsidiary of Roadrunner Records)approached the band for a demo deal, which resulted in a live four track demo featuring the songs “Eyes of Tomorrow”, “Afraid Of Time”, “The Act Of Unspoken Wisdom” and “Reflecting Pictures". Negotiations eventually broke down and Aftermath signed to New York's Big Chief Records. The label's collapse halfway through the recording sessions led to a long delay in finishing the record. While the band struggled to pay the studio bill, the album the band started to record in 1990 would not see the light of day for four years. The experience left the band reeling and forced them to issue the album under their own imprint with the help of their manager through Zoid Recordings in 1994. Four long years had passed since the initial recordings for the record Eyes of Tomorrow and the scene had dramatically changed.

The album was subsequently re-released on Thermometer Sound Surface / Zoidand released yet again four years (1998) later on Black Lotus Records in a re-mastered version.

Quite famously, Aftermath, in a notable court case Tsiolis v. Interscope. Records. Inc., 946 F.Supp. 1344, 1349 (N.D.III. 1996) sued high-profile millionaire rapper DR. DRE over the ownership of the Aftermath name. The Rapper tried to buy the name for $50,000, which the band rejected. The band sued him. As part of the settlement, Interscope Records signed the band. To the label's surprise, the band delivered a record under the moniker Mother God Moviestar. Its eponymous Electro-Metal debut was released in March 1998. The case has been studied in law schools around the US related to the issue of trademark dilution.

Aftermath has continued to receive critical acclaim as one of the major influences in the genre. The band was featured on pages 9 and 10 of Gary Sharpe-Young's A - Z of Thrash Metal, available on Cherry Red Books. Aftermath is also given an entire feature section in Alexandros Anesiadis’ 2019 book Crossover the Edge: Where Hardcore, Punk, and Metal Collide.

Twenty-five years after its formation, Aftermath's music made its return in 2011 with the release of the Box Set 25 YEARS OF CHAOS on Area Death Productions and the vinyl When Will You Die on F.O.A.D. The reemergence of one of the most original thrash bands ever continued in 2014 with their decision to reunite for several concerts in 2015.

Coming off their first show in 20 years at Ragnarokkr Metal Apocalypse in their hometown of Chicago, the band ripped the stage apart at Headbanger’s Open Air in Hamburg, Germany that summer. In the Fall of 2015, the reunion continued with the reissue of Eyes of Tomorrow. With an expanded booklet and remastered by Paul Logus (Pantera, Steel Panther), Shadow Kingdom Records released the band's debut along with bonus material. Following this release was the Killing the Futurereissue on Divebomb Records. Once again Paul Logus remastered the tracks from their original source and created a wall of sound in the process. Killing the Future, along with the expanded booklet and bonus tracks from the band's 1986 first demo completed the celebration of the band's 30th anniversary.

In 2017, the band started writing the material for their new album. There is Something Wrong is an 11-song opus recorded by Chuck Macak. mastered by Ted Jensen and released through Ingrooves by Zoid Entertainment and The Label Group. A concept record in the truest sense of the word, the album features a mix of old-school crossover thrash and technical/progressive metal and is a commentary on what is wrong with the world today. A calling out of the masses to wake up and know the real enemy. The music is urgent, and the lyrics challenge the listener to seek the truth. Aftermath went back to its early days and revived its crossover thrash stylings on several songs, but those are only samples of what the listeners have in store for them once they put on their headphones and listen to There is Something Wrong in its entirety.

In 2020, Aftermath released a re-imagined version of the John Lennon classic, "Give Peace a Chance".

“John Lennon’s urgent call for peace in Give Peace a Chance is more important today than ever, and our call for peace with this cover is the perfect message to follow up our previous album. We released a dark concept album with a bleak message and felt it was important to follow that up with something positive. The visuals in the video are as important as the lyrics in a way. We live in a visual world today and this video needed to get out the message of HOPE. Having a young girl be the focus of the video was our way of getting that across. Seeing only positive acts when she puts on Lennon’s famous glasses was the perfect visual metaphor. Lennon’s message is transmitted not only through his lyrics but also through the perspective created by his unique lenses” says the band.

The video was directed by critically acclaimed video director Steven Nathan in New York City.

FOSCOR Shares Cover of ALICE IN CHAINS Song, "Would"

Catalan atmospheric metal band FOSCOR are now sharing a unique and haunting cover of ALICE IN CHAINS' iconic song, "Would?" The single is a tribute to celebrate the upcoming 30th anniversary of the grunge band's seminal album, 'Dirt,' which was released on September 29, 1992. The song can be heard below.

The band comments on the cover:

"Despite not having a direct impact in Foscor's music in its conception, Alice in Chains clearly was a life changing act and soundtrack during our youth days, while Black Metal was about to cover everything we knew in majestic darkness from then on. As mentioned months ago, we haven’t had the chance of properly celebrating our 20th anniversary, and to face it from another angle, we thought that would be fantastic to work with some classics in order to connect with you all.

"Working with Jaime on drums for this hymn, and another surprise yet to come, is something paying justice to a long time friend and collaborator since his work for 2018’s album 'Les Irreals Versions,' covering ourselves. Note that this 'Would?' version is not a simple cover as most of you know them, but a work on rearranging the music and even vocal lines to try showing respect and gratitude from our hearts.

"Ten years after 'Dirt' was released, Foscor began its own path, and now that Alice in Chains celebrates this album’s 30th anniversary, we feel fair to pay our humble tribute to one of the most iconic songs from 90's, and a band that easily made us better and deeper in terms of how expressing emotions with our music within the recent years with Season of Mist. Hope you enjoy and share the celebration! To all of us, and for many more years of tragic darkness..."

All FOSCOR albums and merch can be ordered HERE.

The Catalans return with the second chapter of the trilogy initiated with “Les Irreals Visions” in 2017, yet strongly connected to the fin de siècle cultural movement of Modernisme - a parallel development to Art Nouveau and Jugendstil among others. Visual things must acquire a new secret appearance, and with ‘Els Sepulcres Blancs’ FOSCOR treats poetically how facing a change of a sick world and society through the land of dreams.

The title translates as “The White Tombs”, a metaphor for that world of dreams and expectations where humans chained to reality may die and born free to imagine a better one.

FOSCOR hail from Catalonia, and take inspiration from the morbid, decadent, and sick reflections on a rapidly changing society, as the artistic landscape at the end of the nineteenth century shaped.

The name FOSCOR translates as "darkness" in their native Catalan tongue, which the band from Barcelona uses for their lyrics as a distinctive element and strong connection with their cultural reality.

The Catalans’ first two albums, 'Entrance to the Shadows' Village' (2004), 'The Smile of the Sad Ones' (2007) wrapped a shroud of classic second wave black metal around a melancholic yet vital core. 'Groans to the Guilty' (2009) witnessed FOSCOR setting out towards more progressive and avant-garde course, but it was next full-length 'Those Horrors Wither' (2014) which marked a clear departure from the black metal. Darkness found an equally strong expression through the use of very personal clean vocals, tempo reduction and atmosphere.

In 2017, FOSCOR took another step in their constantly changing and shifting evolution. The brand new release 'Les Irreals Visions' (2017) was easily drawing its eager audience in, only to lure the unwary listener into a dark labyrinth of unexpected complexity filled with beauty and sorrow. In 2018, FOSCOR explored these lines between reality, poetry and the beyond even further with a special digital release transforming their own music into a so intimate experience; 'Les Irreals Versions' (2018).

Now, 2019 promises to be as tragic as their music claims with the so sensitive release of 'Els Sepulcres Blancs', its characteristic melancholic sonic aura and catchy riffing intensity. Their most personal and delicate sound achievement to date.

An ode to this core’s unity and a whisper in the High Lands for what is about to unfold in the Vortex Society. A song about Sacrifice, Despair and Agony. A song about us: GAEREA. And as we once wrote: '(…) if the shores were not ravaged by human greed and ignorance, Resilience would draw a wall of adventures ingrained in our cells.'”

"...an emotional rollercoaster of a record that's going to sometimes make you feel sorrow, sometimes elation and lots of reflected longing." -
Metal Injection(8/10)

"If 2020’s Limbo was the sound of a band putting any doubts about their abilities – or their authenticity – firmly to rest, then Mirage is the sound of a band with nothing left to prove to anyone… except to themselves." -

Style: Cathartic Black Metal

Behind black shrouds of obscurity and desolation, the men of GAEREA deliver their odes in cascading maelstroms of aggression and beauty. Emerging from the age of pandemic to whatever awaits humanity next, the Portuguese horde remains on the frontlines of the next generation of extreme metal. With an EP and two albums to their name, GAEREA has rapidly distinguished themselves from the thousands of bands toiling away in the underground. Brewing their cauldron of sound from a recipe of pounding black-metal blast mixed with a touch of harrowed, reflective longing, many devotees of the darkened arts have flocked to their banner. With the emergence of third full-length album Mirage, those numbers are sure to grow.

Underground metal itself is a strange and cyclical beast. Trends come and trends go. But at no point in the genre’s history have we borne witness to what happened to the world in 2020. GAEREA met this challenge by releasing their second album, the aptly titled Limbo, to excellent world reception. In the meantime, they found the total suspension of interactive life as it was previously known to be the perfect breeding ground for further creation and making. As the troupe’s main songwriter elaborates, “I lost two precious years of my life, years that I would rather have spent touring and growing as an artist. But they were crucial for us, these years, because not too many bands stayed relevant and productive. The pandemic gave us the time to make the best release we could. All the promo-shoots, interviews, videos, we all had time to prepare for everything. Mirage was the product of a sudden inspiration. The basic parts were written over about two weeks.”

Such a stunning admission goes to show that art is fickle, and the artist is merely a vessel through which the sweet sorcery we call music may flow. It can mute itself to frustrating silence – or it can explode into being regardless of all consideration. For this band on the rise, it is most certainly the latter. Sizzling with ambition from day one, GAEREA may present one unique face to their audience, masked and enshrouded, but the truth is they have not remained changeless. “We are not the same band who recorded Limbo,” he insists. “We are more eager to take on the world. If the pandemic taught us anything it is that nothing is certain.”

This lack of certainty plays heavily into newest creation Mirage. As its name suggests, the inability to trust what our senses are telling us could be construed as one of the album’s central themes. Rather than constrict their art to mythological references or anti-religious tropes, GAEREA instead plumb the depths of the human experiences of isolation and suffering. “The concept, the subject, of each song is everyone, you, me . . . if people were alone together in Limbo, in Mirage they are truly alone. Nobody is truly real until they are alone.”

If existential dread could be turned into sound, GAEREA have carved their own philosophical path through its stygian tunnels. It isn’t Satan, demons, death, or even suicide that is waiting for us there. “What if people finally reached their goal,” he posits, “to end their suffering, and instead of dying they find themselves in a new reality, lost in a big city they were once a part of – they don’t know if anyone else is still alive. They are alone inside their own world.” This theme of being alone in a world full of familiar scenes, unable to end things and unable to reach anyone else, might well terrify the listener more effectively than any glimpse into the imagined hellscapes of our nightmares. Being isolated in your own world is the real nightmare, and GAEREA strum the chords of this horror with nuance and a miserable grace.

Boasting a superior production that threads the needle between clarity and causticness, GAEREA unwaveringly admit their loyalty to countryman and producer Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings. “Miguel is fantastic,” enthuses the band’s primary composer. “He comes from a brutal death metal background. I thought if this guy can pull off a punchy, modern, but still authentic production with a slam / death metal band, I wonder what he can do with a band like GAEREA. He has a vision for a sound, and that is what I really like. He is not a black metal fan, but it’s this very external set of ears and eyes from a guy who really knows his craft, and he brings all of that to our sound.” The fruits of this union are quite evident, as the turbulent moods of the title track are so wonderfully tossed between tension-building moments, and the explosive payoffs which set GAEREA apart from so many who try but come up short.

Tormented leads and building riffs sit atop some seriously explosive drumming, waxing and waning, on “Arson,” a tempest of moods and one of the album’s centerpieces. Emotion, at times sounding triumphant in brilliantly wrought guitar leads, is skewered by vocals that bustle with shattering despair. The dichotomy is magnificent to behold. GAEREA’s composer makes no mistake. “I want to hear the throat on the album, and if we are a vocals-driven band, I don’t want to over-process them during the recording. Striking that balance is one of the beauties for me in this record.”

In a world that increasingly elevates the shallow and the narcissistic, GAEREA pursues an artistic struggle of inward isolation, honest self-examination, and a dogged refusal to bow to the void that awaits. Thus, the persistence of their shadowed visages, draped in the masks which codify their anonymity while also creating a reliable extreme metal brand that fans can appreciate, especially in the live setting. “GAEREA are truly ourselves when we put these masks on, and we transcend into something different, and primitive,” he asserts. “It still makes total sense, and this band would not be a band anymore if we ever dropped the masks.”

As GAEREA prepares the release of Mirage, the world has resumed functioning, and as it lurches onward into its bleak future, one could stipulate that the pressure may be on to continue its rise amid the clamor of this renewal of activity. Does this challenge intimidate GAEREA? “We want to do better, but I don’t feel any pressure because we are in very good hands with the people we work with. We are building a strong team that really cares for us, stage-wise, promotional-wise, website and sales-wise. We are building a very structured confident teams that aims for the same goals we do. What I truly care about is continuing our ever-growing concept of the band GAEREA, and not becoming sterile, and I would not want people to be unaffected by our music. In the end we’re trying to express something within ourselves, and I don’t want it to be too complicated.”

The beauty of GAEREA lies in the directness and simplicity found within their florid tapestry of extremity and aggression. Whether it is in the less-polished aural dynamite of their self-titled EP, or in the lustrous textures of Mirage, GAEREA is building a mighty edifice of underground metal. With talons dipped in the inky blood of black metal and scraped across the flesh of human suffering, GAEREA is leading a charge into the future of darkness, and all those who find beauty and power in the dark side of existence would do well to take heed.

DYMBUR Release Official Music Video for Socially Progressive New Single, "Back Home"!

Shillong, India based, Khasi Thraat Folk Metal band DYMBUR has unveiled the visually impactful official music video for their newest, intensely poignant new single, "Back Home." Addressing the international challenges of child prostitution, discrimination protections, LGBTQ+ rights and basic human rights, DYMBUR delivers their humanitarian message with stunning lyrics and incredible musicianship!

“We wrote 'Back Home' in 2021 and it was supposed to be the first single that we wanted to release under our new genre change. The script is written by Cornelius & Andreas and a few other add ons were taken from the other band members. Since we came up with the idea of fusing khasi traditional instruments with metal music, we also wanted to write songs based on heavy subject matter, hence the idea of the storyline came about. We did approach a few production houses from Shillong, India and shared the script with them, but they all rejected to work with us because of the sensitive subject matter. Hence we kept the song on hold and released our other singles 'Rape Culture' & 'Child Abuse'.

Right after these releases, we then decided that it was high time that we need to release Back Home. Since no one wanted to shoot the video for us cause of its sensitive content, we then decided to produce and direct the video by ourselves, under Legato Studio Productions owned by our Guitarist & founder of Dymbur, Cornelius Kharsyntiew.

The song depicts a child being sold off to a brothel because his homophobic father cannot accept him. This boy grows into a young man as he serves his entire adolescent life as a sex worker in that brothel. A day comes when he gathers all his courage and escapes the brothel to embark on a journey to get Back Home. Along the way he gets a flashback and recalls all the atrocities he had faced. Fueled by these painful memories he pushes ahead in search of his home. He eventually finds his home but his parents don't recognize him as he is wearing a hijab and when he takes it off for the first time to reveal his face, immediately his mother recognizes him as she rushes forward to embrace him but his father stops her. The story ends with the father and son locked in on an emotional stare down. In the last shot the hammer drops to the ground signifying 'Acceptance; from the band's POV. But that shot can also be defined as an open ended shot where the audience can decide if they want to accept or reject the boy if they were in the father's position. " - DYMBUR

DYMBUR is a Folk Metal band, formed in Shillong, Meghalaya in February 2012.

“DYMBUR” is a word of KHASI origin that translates into English as “Fig Tree”.

The KHASI people are an indigenous tribe, who live in the State of Meghalaya which is in the north eastern part of India.
‘DYMBUR’ - The fig tree symbolizing rebirth, progression and evolution, of victory after struggle, Fresh leaves from old branches forming new shapes defining one of nature’s basic laws, the ability to regenerate and grow anew after a dry spell.

On November 2021, Dymbur announced the band's shift towards folk metal, which we termed as 'KHASI THRAAT FOLK METAL

Vocalist Vicky Psarakis says:

""Immaculate Deception" is a song about societal pressure and feelings of remorse over time.

The main point I want to highlight is the concept of time and the fear that comes with it. We all reach a point where we start noticing that we're aging. In current society, there's a big push to try and preserve our physical state. There's a huge movement of cosmetic procedures and products that promise us "eternal youth". People like to think that they can keep reliving their 20s, instead of embracing the natural course of life and the challenges and rewards that come with it.

To bring this vision to life, we focused on our main character coming face to face with different versions of herself: her naturally aged older self chasing her with an imaginary "mob" (representing society) and her unrecognizable cosmetically altered self staring at her through the mirror. She ultimately realizes she cannot run anymore.

Remorse is a powerful feeling and influencing factor for a lot of our decisions, but the fact is you can never go back in time and change the things you've done. All you can do is learn and push yourself to be better over time.

To thank all our fans who directly donated money for this video to be made, we added their names to the credits. We could not have done this without you!"

WHISKEY MYERS GRACE POLLSTAR COVER:
“RED DIRT ROCK WHISKEY MYERS TAKES ON THE WORLD”

Rolling Stone’s “New Torch Bearers for Southern Music” Continue Selling Out Amphitheater Tour Dates Ahead of Personally Curated
Firewater Music Festival This Week, Sept. 29 – Oct. 1

Critically Acclaimed
Tornillo Album Available Now

Road warriors Whiskey Myers have played more than 2,500 shows since their emergence in 2007, yet this year’s touring has reached yet another level for the band who earns their reputation as American Songwriter’s “Country Rock Royalty,” having sold over 281,000-and-counting tickets year to date. With recent milestones including a single-day sellout of their Red Rocks Amphitheatre debut and back-to-back nights at the Ryman Auditorium (with the second show added after night one sold out in just 30 minutes), plus a headlining arena show in front of more than 10,000 fans set for Fort Worth’s Dickies Arena next month, the multi-Platinum independent band arrives emphatically as this week’s POLLSTAR cover artist, with the magazine noting, “Somewhere between the six-string swagger of Southern rock and the hard-charging improv-aspect of jam bands, Whiskey Myers ignited a national fervor for Red Dirt Music.”

“An outlier of alt-country with more thrust, Southern cousin of the Black Keys or spiritual grandchild of Waylon and Willie’s Outlaw Country, Whiskey Myers is currently taking a regional movement global,” adds the magazine, noting “Whiskey Myers offers sobering pieces of broken lives that go unseen.”

In addition to their sold-out tour dates to ever-increasing crowd sizes across the globe, the band from East Texas is also keen to remember their roots, hosting the annual Wiggy Thump Festival in their hometown to benefit the local youth livestock association. Yet they began dreaming even bigger in the festival space with last year’s inaugural edition of their personally curated Firewater Music Festival held outside Kansas City, which will return with an impressive lineup of musical friends plus a wide array of outdoor lifestyle activities this week, Sept. 29 – Oct. 1. Limited tickets remain HERE.

“It’s lightning in a bottle,” lead singer Cody Cannon shared with POLLSTAR of the event and its lineup, continuing, “You know, people really seem to want real bands. And if that’s what they’re looking for, well, that’s all that we are... all we’ve really ever been.”

Live is where the band known for that authenticity and celebrated by Esquire for their “straight-up, booze-swilling, highway-driving, heart-on-your-sleeve, blood-on-your-knuckles country music” makes an undeniable impression, yet their recorded music also speaks volumes. The July release of Tornillo, recorded during a 21-day period of isolation at the Sonic Ranch studio just miles from the U.S./Mexico border, marked the band’s second time self-producing and featured the genre-bending band doubling down on what they do best: sharing honest truths with no-holds-barred instrumentation, letting the genre-bending music speak for itself.

As American Songwriter declared of Tornillo, the band is “in a league of their own with their signature hard-rocking sound on full display… Saddle up and settle in because Whiskey Myers is ready to take listeners on a country, rock, and blues-infused wild ride.” “Southern rock is alive and well on Whiskey Myers’ Tornillo – and it comes with a brassy border-town swagger,” added Nashville Lifestyles in the magazine’s July print issue. “Equal parts train songs, tenacious energy, and Tabasco… their lawless musicality burns like the sun.”

Whether recorded or live, it’s clear that what Classic Rock declares of Whiskey Myers has never been truer: “Authenticity: you can’t buy it, you can’t bluff it. And you can’t beat it when it comes to delivering dirty, down-home, electric guitar music from the American South.”

About Whiskey Myers
Genre-bending band Whiskey Myers have played more than 2,500 live shows to ever-increasing crowd sizes since their emergence in 2007. In addition to headlining their own sold-out shows from coast to coast at iconic venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheater and Ryman Auditorium, plus performing at marquee festivals Bonnaroo, Stagecoach, Download and more, the six-piece was also personally selected to open The Rolling Stones’ Chicago stadium show in 2019. Their latest self-produced album, Tornillo, available everywhere now via the band’s own Wiggy Thump Records, follows their fifth studio album, Whiskey Myers, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Country and Americana/Folk sales charts, at No. 2 on the Rock chart and No. 6 on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart (No. 3 among new releases). In total, Whiskey Myers have sold more than 1.4 million albums and amassed nearly 2 billion streams while earning four RIAA Gold & Platinum certifications as an independent band. Known for their high-energy live show and unique sound, the band praised by Esquire as “the real damn deal” has also earned sync success with features (and an on-screen appearance) in Paramount’s hit show “Yellowstone” as well as Netflix series “What/If,” Angelina Jolie film “Those Who Wish Me Dead” and hit CBS series “SEAL Team.” USA Today describes their sound as “a riff-heavy blend of Southern rock and gritty country that has earned comparisons to the Allman Brothers Band and Led Zeppelin,” with Rolling Stone noting “it’s the seminal combination of twang and crunchy rock & roll guitars that hits a perfect sweet spot.”

Manchester psychnauts The Speed Of Sound release double A-side single 'Virtual Reality 123 / Charlotte 12" version'

"Raw and edgy sound with guiding and invigorating sense of melody" ~ The Spill Magazine

“Unmistakeable sound a winning formula” ~ The Big Takeover

‘Unique and other worldly” ~ Vive Le Rock

“A form of Art-Pop that is wry, incisive, yet a deeply listenable examination of post industrial culture” ~ Rock At Night

"A riotous maelstrom of musical mayhem” ~ The Manc Review

Manchester indie rock outfit The Speed Of Sound presents the double A-side single 'Virtual Reality 123 / Charlotte 12" Version', reimagining two of the tunes from their acclaimed 2021 album 'Museum Of Tomorrow', marking one year since its release via Big Stir Records. Just like a classic 12” single, each track clocks in at over 6 minutes - double the running time of the album originals.

Hailing from Manchester, The Speed of Sound is made up of father and son John Armstrong (guitars and vocals) and Henry Armstrong (keyboards), Ann-Marie Crowley (vocals and guitar), Kevin Roache (bass guitar) and John Broadhurst(drums).

Formed in 1989 with a pre-history dating back to the day Andy Warhol died in 1987, The Speed of Sound lies deep below the ‘music industry radar’, allowing for the evolution of their own distinctive sound and live act. Their music is optimistic, but with lyrical bite, a punk-inspired DIY ethos and lust for experimentation rooted in psychedelia.

Throughout their 33-year history, The Speed Of Sound have always been idiosyncratic, counter-intuitive and perpetually looking for something new. These two fresh extended pieces take advantage of space that is not afforded when limited by the physical time constraints of vinyl. The result is effectively two new pieces that are epic in different and unexpected ways. Is this Progressive Pop? There is only one way to find out.

'Virtual Reality 123' is a dramatically beautiful, yet desolate soundscape, unfurling within the startlingly atmospheric pairing of grand piano and guitar feedback blended with the human voice. Joyous and steely resolute in its determination to create and inhabit a personal parallel universe, it constructs a separate realm for the purpose of keeping the work/life spheres completely separate. A possibility powered by enabling and running an ‘alternative-life’ programme alongside the daily grind, it steps from one to the other, closing the door between them. Replacing the drudgeries of the physical analogue personal life with a digital perfection, the virtual world becomes a refuge from actual existence and the place when life exists in a state of perpetual euphoria.

Frontman John Armstrong says, “This is the full version of 'Virtual Reality' - as originally conceived - parts 1, 2 and 3. It was simply too long to fit on the album in its entirety, so here it is in its unedited glory. We couldn’t get the piano into the recording studio, so we recorded that remotely and added it in.”

'Charlotte 12” Version' takes the already existing sense of anxious menace within the album version of this song, adding a ghostly and delicately layered ephemeral depth of neo-gothic proportions. Enhancing the dread within the runaway choruses, this performance leaves no need for flickering candles; true terror is within the mind.

“The song is based on actual events from the 1850’s; the first time we played Charlotte live was in Elizabeth Gaskell’s house within the actual room where Charlotte Bronte hid behind a curtain to avoid meeting an unexpected visitor while she was staying in her fellow novelist’s home," explains John Armstrong.

"That gig was just two weeks before Charlotte’s 200th birthday. It was easy to imagine her still there and hiding from us too. Anxiety is the natural state of the modern world, but it has been around much longer. The part of Charlotte in the introduction is performed by Janet Armstrong.”

As of September 16, 'Virtual Reality 123 / Charlotte (12" Version)' will be released through Big Stir Records and will be available via Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. While this "virtual release" is digital-only, the 'Museum of Tomorrow' album is still available on vinyl and CD from Big Stir Records and record stores worldwide.
