The Guess Who is the legendary Canadian band that enjoyed chart-topping hits in the late 60s and early 70s. The impressive catalogue of songs includes "American Woman," "These Eyes," and "No Time." During the course of its career, the band has released 11 studio albums, all of which charted in Canada and the United States. The Guess Who is best known internationally for its 1970 album, American Woman, which hit number one in Canada and number nine in the United States, with five other albums also hitting the top ten in Canada. All in all, the Guess Who boasts 14 top-40 singles in the United States and more than 30 in Canada.

The band released their first two singles, “The King,” and “Plein D’Amour,” with both immediately landing on multiple Spotify playlists and Apple Music. They racked up over 112,000 streams, making them the highest new releases in the band’s current history. Derek Sharp, songwriter and lead vocalist, had this to say about the latest single “Headline,” “Headlines are inherently orchestrated, recurring one-liners regurgitated by our media. The band is now gearing up to release its latest album creation, Plein D’Amour. Band members Derek Sharp, Michael Staertow, Leonard Shaw, Michael Devin, and founding member Garry Peterson have crafted a collection of songs that raises the bar and continues to take it up a notch both musically and sonically. The album Plein D’Amour will be released through the Guess Who’s new partnership with Deko Entertainment on both CD and limited-edition colored vinyl, 180 Gram Purple-Splatter Vinyl and Smoked-Green Vinyl (only 300 copies). Artwork for the release was provided by world renowned graphic designer Ioannis (Deep Purple, Allman Brothers Band, Led Zeppelin) with limited prints to be autographed by both the Guess Who and Ioannis. The album Plein D’Amour was recorded at Villa Sound in Singhampton, Ontario, Canada, with Adam Fair, featuring standout tracks such as “Headline” and “Across the Line”. Semi-Rotted Recruit Tim Yeung + Share Animated "Bloodbath" Video Feat. Corpsegrinder

Las Vegas-based metal band Semi-Rotted — which boasts a collective pedigree that also impressively spans multiplatinum chart-topping heavyweights Five Finger Death Punch and Gemini Syndrome and have tallied over five million views and streams independently — have added veteran extreme metal drummer Tim Yeung (Morbid Angel, Divine Heresy, Vital Remains) to their lineup.

Frontman Jeremy Spencer has known Yeung since 2007, when the drummer was a member of Divine Heresy.

"Getting a drummer the caliber of Tim Yeung really allows freedom when creating because you know he's gonna add the bad ass chops to push the material over the top," Spencer shares. "There's nobody I wanted more than Tim, so I thought I'd reach out by chance he might be available and he was! He instantly starting taking the songs to another level when he started drumming on them."

The band has been hard at work finishing 25 songs.

One result is a breakneck slaughter-fest called "Bloodbath," which features Corpsegrinder of Cannibal Corpse as a guest vocalist.

"It's our take on different genres of metal," notes Jeremy. "We're such huge fans, and we wanted to do our own spin on various styles together. Why can't you have a chorus in a fucking extreme metal song?"

Semi-Rotted initially roared to life with the 2023 Deader Than Dead EP. Standout "Shotgun Symphony" quickly surpassed 150K Spotify streams followed by "Torture Congregation" [feat. Indie rock artist Fred Abong presents his new single 'Father', the first taste of his forthcoming album 'Fear Pageant', slated for release in late summer via Seattle-based label Disc Drive.

This is Abong's seventh album (most of which have been self-released, along with his two EPs), following up his 'Yellowthroat' album, released in mid-2022 and recorded together with Rob Ahlers (50FOOTWAVE, Kristin Hersh Electric Trio).

On this release, Abong - a Filipino-American indie / alternative rock singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist - upholds his reputation as a songwriter creating a blend of “ragged Replacements and lyric-driven Bob Dylan” and as “Elliott Smith with balls”.

A musical and geographical wanderer, he grew up in the Northeast, has lived in Southern California, and currently calls New Orleans home. His songs are existentially and romantically focused, poetic, and slightly off-kilter. Detuned guitars, unconventional song structures, and a raw and unpolished production aesthetic characterize the overall sound. Fred’s hypnotic, sometimes gravelly adds to the effect.

"This was one of the last songs to be written for this album. Though I never know what ‘inspires’ a song in any kind of obvious way (I don’t get ‘ideas’ for songs or anything like that), it’s possible the song is informed by the fact that my children are all adults now. But that’s too linear an interpretation. The song is both less and more than that, in my opinion. Nothing is that straightforward. You should be getting the idea that I’m not in control of the song, ever. Maybe the spelling … I’m in control of the spelling," says Fred Abong.

"Lyrically and imagistically, though, it suggests to me a spiritual crisis of some sort. The music, too, has a solemn, reverential quality, until it gets funky in the outro. Actually, now that I think about it, the whole song is both reverential and funky. It just gets funkier at the end. So, I guess that’s what the song is about – funky reverence."

Getting his musical start in 1980’s Rhode Island as a drummer, bassist and guitarist in an array of hardcore punk bands, Fred Abong spent the early 1990s playing bass for Throwing Muses and then Belly. He then put music as a profession on hold for academic pursuits, earning a PhD in Humanities and serving as a professor at various universities for eight years before returning to music.

Continuing to write songs as a solo artist, Abong's music has a raw and unpolished production aesthetic with an overall direct, though deceptively imaginative and oblique, presentation. Apart from his work as a solo artist, Fred Abong is also currently bassist in the Kristin Hersh Electric Trio and has also been a practicing Vedic astrologer for the past 20 plus years.

As of June 6, 'Father' will be released on fine music platforms, including Bandcamp, where his 'Yellowthroat' record is also available in all formats. The full 'Fear Pageant' album will be released (digitally and on vinyl) on July 20.

The 3 Clubmen - a new project comprised of XTC's Andy Partridge, Jen Oliveand Stu Rowe - have released 'Aviatrix', an avant-pop delight offering a strange, seductive blend of experimental pop, jazz and sci-fi cinema excellence. This lush offering previews the trio's eponymous debut EP, which will be released on June 30 via Swindon-based Lighterthief label in cooperation with Burning Shed.

The 3 Clubmen is the culmination of a decade of antics from these longtime collaborators, who started writing and recording this material years ago. While each artist has worked with the others in some form since 2008, The 3 Clubmen marks the first time that Stu, Andy and Jen have combined forces as a trio, an inevitable partnership once described as “a three-headed Frankenstein's monster dancing at a neurodivergent singles club”.

"Like an 'action painter' throws colour at a canvas, we tend to throw musical and sound things, knowing that we'll cut through this seemingly insane mess later, to hopefully find some beautiful garden, hiding there," says Andy Partridge.

"I throw paint, Jen throws paint, Stu throws paint...and we walk away. If, when we return, something in there calls to us, we'll move heaven and earth to get it out and let it breath. Using whatever it takes, be it contrary musical ideas, parts in clashing keys incongruous sounds, contradictory words/phrases. Its all clay to us."

Best known as co-founder of XTC, Partridge is known as the “godfather of Britpop". His most recent solo releases include 'My Failed Songwriting Career, Volumes 1 & 2'. Apart from various XTC re-releases, he also released the 'Planet England' EPwith Robyn Hitchcock, the 'Powers' collection of sound pieces, and the 'Gonwards' album with Peter Blegvad, in addition to writing songs for The Monkees, Miles Kane and others.

Native to Los Angeles, musician-songwriter Jen Olive has a series of albums to her name, in addition to writing and recording for A&M Records and contributing music to various American Film Institute projects. Her latest solo release was 2022's Stu Rowe-produced single 'Two Futures'.

A key player on Swindon’s music scene, Stu Rowe has supported many artists as a guitarist, bassist and producer. Apart from Patridge and Jen Olive, these include Shriekback (Barry Andrews), Paul Weller, Colin Moulding, Future Sound of London (The Amorphous Androgynous), and TC&I.

The Clubmen saga begins in 2006, when Andy and Stu first worked on 'Monstrance'. Riding on a mutual fascination with experimental music production, a bi-weekly ritual soon emerged, starting at Stu’s Lighterthief Bunker and ending at the local pub, which resulted in sonic explorations and improvised recordings. A series of musical sketches gradually formed, setting the stage for Jen’s later involvement.

With interest reignited during the pandemic after being put on hold and largely forgotten, the trio decided to finish what they’d started all those years ago, resulting in their debut 4-track effort.

"The Clubmen project is something I’ve been messing about with for years - it's the one thing that everyone who hears it says I should finish. It was great fun to make and I think we’ve managed to create something really quite interesting between all three of our musical sensibilities," says Stu Rowe.

Jen Olive adds, "The joy is it… so much humor… the lyrics reflect the spirit of the conversations… the call and response. There’s an ecstatic quality to it. it's thrilling to have people share in that."

Signing to Andy’s label APE HOUSE Records in 2008 after recording her 'Warm Robot' album, Jen contributed lyrics and vocals on 'Up On Hi' and 'My Dream Sea', penned by Rowe and Partridge for Lighterthief's 'Trick Picture' and 'Hard Listening' EPs (released on APE HOUSE).

It would only be in 2010 when the threesome were finally able to work together in person. The chemistry was instant, the room was buzzing and the ideas flowed. Over pints at The Roaring Donkey pub, they dubbed their project “The 3 Clubmen” after the local defence volunteer groups formed during the English Civil War. Clubmen protected themselves from both armies by fighting on their own side - the name seemed to fit.

After returning to the US, Jen released her 'I Say Love' EP (involving collaborations with Andy and Stu individually) and then 'The Breaks' album, a three-year endeavor produced by Stu and released in 2014.

'Aviatrix' is out now, available everywhere digitally. On June 30, 'The 3 Clubmen' debut EP will be released on CD, as well as digitally, via Burning Shed.

Later that year, in November of 2018, CSJ released their follow up album, “Just Take Hold”…

Once again, they were greeted with extensive Indie and College radio airplay for that record’s namesake single, “Just Take Hold”, as well as for their cover version of the Sugarloaf classic, “Green Eyed Lady”.

In May and December of 2019, CSJ completed two successful European tours, which journeyed them throughout The Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

As the world paused for the next couple years, due to the global pandemic, CSJ was still hard at work on their next creative endeavor.

In 2021, they released a new single, “No Way To Live”…

Just as before, they garnered massive airplay, both locally and overseas.

On March 1st, 2023, the long-awaited full length, 11- song album, which was on hold, due to the state of the world was finally released.

GRAMMY Award winner Ashley McBryde has made a name for herself with her standout, critically acclaimed albums, all of which found the Arkansas native straddling lines between traditional country, rock-tinged roots and point-blank biker-bar riffs, leading American Songwriter to boast her “music balances gutsy rocking with classic country, folk and even slight bluegrass influences.” With The Devil I Know, set for release Sept. 8 via Warner Music Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry member and her band Deadhorse honed in and sharpened what it is they do best.

“When it was time to put together The Devil I Know, my band and I did what we always do: got together in the purple building in East Nashville, played through a bunch of songs and discussed where we wanted it to go,” shares McBryde. “We decided to take all the things that people tend to give us a hard time for and turn it up.

“‘Y’all are too country.’ We leaned into that – more country it is. ‘Y’all are awfully rock leaning for a country artist.’ Is that so? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. ‘Last thing y’all need is another tender, finger pickin’ song.’ Oh? Tender makes you uneasy, cowboy? I hear you. Let’s see how much more tender we can be. We listened to all those opinions and said, ‘I hear you. I understand what you’re saying.’ But sadly, there’s no room on the record for your opinion. We’ll do what we want.”

Accompanying today’s announcement is the release of “Learned To Lie,” a striking example of McBryde’s songwriting vulnerability:

I traced it back to a couple months before I was born
Must’ve heard my momma tell my daddy
That she was tired ’cause babies make you tired
But deep down she was just unhappy
I think my father did the best that he could do
He rarely made it to the dinner table
Said he was working late, but he was working late
Fogging up the windows of an ’89 Sable

I, I learned to cry

“‘Learned to Lie’ was a hard one; I wrote it with Sean McConnell and Nicolette Hayford,” McBryde reflects. “After it was written, I called my mom to let her know that I had told a little bit more of our story as a family. I said, ‘It’s going to be hard to hear, but none of it is untrue.’”

McBryde’s truth-telling is delivered a little softer in current chart-climbing single “Light On In The Kitchen” that The New York Times praised, “Ashley McBryde maintains her position as country’s most down-to-earth songwriter,” while the title track “The Devil I Know” showcases her aptitude for turning it up, with Stereogumsharing the song “starts out quiet and acoustic before flaring up into a big Southern-rock chorus with a blast of distorted riffage.”

Tonight, McBryde performs at the BackCountry Festival in Gardnerville, Nevada before returning to Nashville for CMA Fest’s 50th Anniversary at Nissan Stadium next week. In his own words, Daniel says: "Video game music has been a big inspiration for me ever since I was a kid, and it continues to inspire me to this day. Artists like FamilyJules, ToxicxEternity, Insaneintherainmusic, and RichaadEB have done amazing things with video game music in the guitar/rock/metal genres, and they've inspired me to do the same thing but in reverse. With 'RUBIT', we've taken our debut album 'RUBIX' and transformed it into an 8-bit remix, incorporating new musical elements to create a more melodic and interesting sound that still pays homage to the original album. Aurora Dream is a Miami, Florida-based musical project that was founded by Daniel Morales in 2016, during his final months at university. The project was launched with the release of "Parallel Colors (Demo)," a single that was originally meant to be a personal release. Daniel composes, plays guitar, records, and manages his unique brand of instrumental progressive music, all from his bedroom studio. THE OLD DEAD TREE's latest album 'The End' was released in 2020 via Season of Mist.

This new EP was already written in 1999, a few days before the tragic loss of drummer Frédéric Guillemot and demonstrates the true doom roots of THE OLD DEAD TREE.

Since its inception in 1997 by Manuel Munoz (vocals, guitars) and Nicolas Chevrollier (guitars), THE OLD DEAD TREE always stood apart in the current European metal scene thanks to its unique musical identity: a style which combines extreme metal and dark rock / pop with exceptional vocals, gliding from one style to the next.

By 1999, this was already clearly evident, when Frédéric Guillemot (drums) and Vincent Danhier (bass) decided to join and secure the line-up. The press and fans enthusiastically praised and welcomed the band’s first self-release: the demo EP "The Blossom".

This promising debut took a sudden tragic turn, when Frédéric Guillemot committed suicide just a few months later. The band members were inspired to exorcise the dramatic loss of their close friend by expressing the darkest feelings and frustration this trauma provoked in a new concept album. The result was “The Nameless Disease”, produced by Andy Classen (LEGION OF THE DAMNED, DEW SCENTED, DIE APOKALYPTISCHEN REITER, DISBELIEF, GRAVEWORM…) and mastered by Goran Finberg (IN FLAMES, OPETH, DIMMU BORGIR…), an album which carried a powerful, aggressive and modern sound. In 2002, the band signed a deal with Season of Mist which finally gave Frédéric’s epic eulogy a proper release. THE OLD DEAD TREE performed several shows and toured at various festivals for the record, with the likes of OPETH, KATATONIA and PARADISE LOST.

Franck Métayer, on the drums since 1999, decided to leave in 2004 in order to devote himself to his personal life. He was replaced by Foued Moukid whose debut performance with the THE OLD DEAD TREE appeared on the 2005 album, “The Perpetual Motion”. The band played at several high profile festivals over the summer of 2005 to promote the album’s release, including Summer Darkness (NL) and Fury Fest (FR) alongside SLAYER, ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, LACUNA COIL, NEUROSIS and SOILWORK.

Sophomore album “The Perpetual Motion” was fully produced by Andy Classen at the Stage One Studio (Germany) and the collaboration proved to be particularly successful. The album received raving reviews late summer 2005. Throughout the fall and winter of that year, THE OLD DEAD TREE hit the road with Dutch gothic metallers EPICA for a full European tour, and performed several shows as headliners in France and the Benelux.

After several more shows, the band members started working on their third album early 2007. The recording sessions and the whole mixing and mastering process took place in June at the Stage One Studio, once again with irreplaceable producer Andy Classen. THE OLD DEAD TREE gave birth to their new album “The Water Fields”. Short after the release, Foued Moukid left the band to devote himself full-time to his other band ARKAN. He was replaced by Raphael Anthaume (PENUMBRA).

By the end of 2008, as THE OLD DEAD TREE was starting to work on a fourth album, some disagreements started to grow within the band, regarding commitment and musical direction. Those differences of opinions soon turned out to be a dead-end problem and led Manuel Munoz to make the decision of ending the band's activities...
In 2013, in order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of “The Nameless Disease”, Manuel, Nicolas, Gilles and Raphael reunited performing the album in its entirety on a series of live shows, including Hellfest.

With this final chapter, the band is closing their career by paying one last tribute to their long-lost friend, who disappeared 20 years ago. The End…Again.

Oxford sextet Jody and the Jerms welcome in the summer with a 3-minute pop classic called 'Intuition', arriving on a wave of rave reviews and airplay in support of their latest full-length album 'Wonder'.

"Is it Intuition, going round and round. The silent looks between you are dragging me down" sings Jody as she tells a heartfelt story of betrayal and temptation over the Jerms’ chiming piano, jangle guitars, and more harmonies, handclaps and tambourines that you can shake a stick at.

"Intuition is about how it feels being two timed and cheated on. But also how a broken heart can soon heal, and then you look back and wonder how did I let that happen and ask ‘had I listened to my intuition, the signs were there," explains frontwoman Jody Jeger.

'Wonder' (their third album to date) was produced, mixed and mastered at OX4 Sound Studio by RIDE frontman Mark Gardener, who notes, "Always happy days when Jody and the Jerms came into the studio to record ‘Wonder’. In a great way, the music and the people take me to a place and time where music and life felt easier, fresh and less complicated. There is a simple purity, real heart and soul, plus earworm catchy-as-hell tunes in all they do. Always a warm glow pleasure that never felt like hard work or ‘trying to split the atom’ when there’s absolutely no need to as soon as they start playing in the studio we’re back off to that lovely space again."

Championed by the late Janice Long at BBC, among others, Jody and the Jerms is a collective revolving around Jody Jeger (vocals) and Niall Jeger (guitars and vocals) with other band members coming from The Anydays, who have graced the pages of NME, played with Radiohead and Supergrass, and were featured on Mark Radcliffe at BBC Radio 2.

Jody and the Jerms create endearing jangle-pop songs that are both evocative and relatable. Extreme Metal Legends RINGWORM Join Nuclear Blast For Release Of 9th Album, "Seeing Through Fire"

Something brutal is coming. Amidst a resurgent, tonal wave of aggression taking place in metal, Cleveland bred pioneers of extreme atrocity RINGWORM have risen. Decades into their influential career, the band has announced their signing to Nuclear Blast Recordswith plans to release their most vicious record in decades, "Seeing Through Fire," on August 18th.

Commenting on the band's signing to Nuclear Blast, founding vocalist Human Furnacesays:

"We couldn't be more excited, really. Getting out to a larger audience is always the goal. And after a career as long as ours, you really appreciate your opportunities when they come to you. The chance to reach out to a globally larger metal scene, is always what the doctor ordered. NB gives us reach that we haven't had over the years and we're definitely fired up.”

Speaking about the record HF adds:

“We're pretty pumped on ‘Seeing Through Fire.’ It's a total burner. It's a straight forward, "smash your face and leave you layin there wondering what you got hit with" type record. We've never felt the need to "re-invent our own wheel" but going into this one we tried some different things sonically, and we're very happy with the results. Of course, it's the intention, every time we record a new record, but we feel like the over-all sound, feel and aggression of ‘Seeing Through Fire,’ one ups many of our past records. Which, for anyone that knows our catalog, is not always an easy task. With every new record, you have to dig deeper.”

Today, the band has revealed the record's first single, a no holds barred, furious neck snapping track called "No Solace, No Quarter, No Mercy" that lays the groundwork for the impending brutality.

Raised on a horse farm in North Georgia, Hall’s inspiration was born from country music legends Kris Kristofferson and Vince Gill, among others. Captivated by the art form, Hall began playing guitar at the age of 14. By 16, he had bartered a deal with his guidance counselor allowing him 60 absences in return for maintaining a passing GPA so he could begin pursuing his career. Intent on honing his skills, Hall formed a band and played over 125 dates a year across the southeast while completing his high school curriculum.

The influences and work ethic of his childhood drove the forthcoming project, with a delivery reminiscent of the emotional honesty of Kristofferson, as Hall hopes to detail the human experience of love, heartbreak, loneliness and what it costs to let the heart feel.

"I’m so excited to finally announce my debut album, Side Effects Of The Heart. Making my first full length record is a moment I’ve dreamed of my entire life, and I have poured every ounce of that energy into the songs and the recordings," reflects Hall. We wrote the song about my upbringing on a small horse farm back home in North Georgia and how the beauty and strength of a horse reminds me of the same beauty and strength of the women in my life like my Momma, my Sister and my Wife. I wouldn’t be the man I am without them or the horses that helped shape me."

Canadian alternative pop artist Apricity presents her new single 'Allison Wonderland', a clever adrenaline-filled composition about imagining and seeking the type of relationship, love and companion you most want. A song that is, at the same time, a light forewarning about creating that *perfect* person in your mind.

With an edge reminiscent of early Avril Lavigne and fueled by the creative inspiration of artists like Shirley Manson, Alanis Morrissette and Debbie Harry, Apricity dishes out attitude and melody in equal amounts.

With her moniker derived from the Latin word meaning “basking in the warmth of the sun", Apricity's music offers alternative pop flair through the prism of 90s-inspired vibes with earlier singles permeated by more Evanescence-inspired dark tones. This new single follows 'All My Lies', released in 2021, and 'The Fear', released in 2022.

"This song reflects the dream of having the perfect relationship that most want, even if it is a dream away. I was lucky again to work with Greg Critchley - an amazing songwriter - along with Thomas at Exeter Sound Studios and mixing engineer Vic Florencia," says Apricity.

On 'Allison Wonderland', Apricity worked with a world-class team, including Toronto-based Juno-nominated and platinum awarded music producer Thomas McKay at Exeter Sound Studios, US-based Canadian songwriter Greg Critchley and legendary mixer / engineer Vic Florencia (Olivia Rodrigo, Hilary Duff, Blue Rodeo, Steven Page, Snoop Dog, Tanya Tagaq, Esthero, Joss Stone).

Now based in Greater Toronto, Apricity was born and spent her formative years in Scotland, where she had her first foray into the entertainment world, auditioning for Britain’s iconic Top of the Pops, appearing on kids’ TV programs like Fun Factory, not to mention pageant shows and eventually musical theatre.

The accompanying video, which was produced by Jesse Read and directed by Apricity with Dropout Entertainment was filmed at various locations in Ontario, including the Templin Garden in Fergus with its open-air romantic spaciousness and gothic stonemasonry, and the tea party scene in the Puslinch township in south-central Ontario.

"We started filming this during the end of the pandemic and finished late last year. We scouted many locations for this, but couldn't get the right *feel* until we found The Templin Gardens in Fergus. The feeling needs to be there. It needs to suit the song and mood and what we are trying to create," says Apricity.

"My previous videos also have the fantasy-telling story factor, so this is a continuation in that sense. I want to create a story that leads the audience into a different world. Obviously the name of the song suits the visuals we created, with a little twist of Tim Burton-esque horror blended in".

As of June 2, 'Allison Wonderland' will be available across fine music platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music.
