PESSIMIST Announces Signature "Blood for the Gods" Mead

American blackened death metal icons PESSIMIST (ft. Kelly McLauchlin of POSSESSED, I AM MORBID, etc.) will be releasing their signature "Blood for the Gods" mead as part of Brimming Horn Meadery's 'Mead and Metal" series! The mead is made with plum and aronia berries that have been aged 6 month in oak barrels, promising a "dark, sweet, and divine" flavor palate. The drink will be made available on June 11 to coincide with the release of the vinyl reissue of the band's sophomore record of the same name.

PESSIMIST mainman Kelly McLauchlin comments, "We will be releasing our very own 'Blood for the Gods' Mead, from our friends at Brimming Horn Meadery, in Milton, DE as part of their “Mead and Metal” series! The brew should be ready to be released at the same time as our album on June 11! This is a craft Mead (also called Honey Wine) brewed specially for us - I worked with the brewmaster on developing the ingredients - it will be dark red 'Dark, Sweet and Divine,' just like our record, 'Blood for the Gods!' Brimming Horn Meadery is also a sponsor of - and will be in attendance this year - at Decibel Magazine's "Metal and Beer Fest" in Philly!"

ICYMI: PESSIMIST have recently entered the Black Attack Studios in Los Angeles, CA (USA) to begin recording their long awaited fourth full-length album, ‘Keys to the Underworld,’ with engineer Ira Black! This will be the band's first full-length record since 2002's 'Slaughtering the Faithful.' In addition, the band is also now welcoming drummer Tim Yeung (I AM MORBID, DIVINE HERESY, HATE ETERNAL, etc.) to the recording lineup! PESSIMIST has previously announced that they will be issuing their first three albums on vinyl for the first time ever! 'Cult of the Initiated,' (1997) 'Blood for the Gods,' (1999) and 'Slaughtering the Faithful' (2002) will all contain never-before-heard bonus tracks and other extras as well, such as new layouts and rare, archival band photos. One of the premiere bands to emerge out of the early Baltimore, MD death metal scene, with their 1993 demo Dark Reality, PESSIMIST played their first shows opening for national acts Incantation, Deicide, and Malevolent Creation. In 1995, the band self-released the EP Absence of Light on cassette and landed gigs opening for Testament, Forbidden, Suffocation, and Napalm Death.

In 1997 PESSIMIST signed to Lost Disciple Records and released their debut CD Cult of the Initiated, which charted on CMJ Top 40 Loud Rock Charts, and received acclaim from around the world. The band continued to play shows in the Mid-Atlantic region, opening for Cryptopsy, Nile, Gorguts, Dying Fetus, Vader, Monstrosity, and festival appearances at Milwaukee Metalfest XII, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest - and the band's first European tour with Fleshless (Cz) in 1999.

PESSIMIST released their second CD, Blood For the Gods, in 1999, which soared into the CMJ Top 30 and received the prestigious "Pick of the Issue.. 10 Fucking Skulls" in SOD Magazine. PESSIMIST became recognized for their unique brand of brutal and technical Black/Death Metal, with old-school thrash influences, an emphasis on quality songwriting, powerful live shows and a dark, evil sound.

In 2001, the band traveled to Tampa, FL to record with producer Erik Rutan, for their third CD, Slaughtering the Faithful, which featured a re-vamped lineup and a faster, more extreme musical direction. More shows followed with Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal, Krisiun, Immolation, Cannibal Corpse, Dark Funeral, festival appearances at March Metal Meltdown, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest, and November to Dismember.

PESSIMIST returned in 2008 with the Evolution Unto Evil CD, a compilation of rare/live demo recordings and tributes to Kreator, Death, Megadeth, and Possessed, which was co-released on Pathos Prod and Deathgasm Recs. This was followed by appearances at New England Deathfest and Hostile City Deathfest. In 2009, the band returned to Europe for their second European tour with label-mates Pandemia (CZ).

In between downtime with the band, founder/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin had also been a member of bands such as UNHOLY GHOST, DIABOLIC, filled in live with ANGELCORPSE, and had later joined Death Metal legends POSSESSED, touring with the band from 2011-2013.

In 2018, PESSIMIST returned to the stage at Maryland Deathfest, headlining Las Vegas Deathfest, Rage of Armageddon Fest (NY), and Ruinfest (CA), and in 2019 released a new single, Keys to the Underworld, which featured studio drummer Kevin Talley (Dying Fetus, Suffocation) and bassist Kelly Conlon (Monstrosity, Death).

Now, in their latest incarnation, the current PESSIMIST lineup includes founder/guitarist Kelly McLauchlin (I Am Morbid, Possessed, etc.), new bassist recruit Andrew Bowen (Carnal Necrosis) ,and vocalist Ivan Alison aka "The Evil One" (Black Mass).

The band is currently writing music for the next full-length album, Keys to the Underworld.

Ten Years After Announce Livestream Event, "Blue Crossroads"

Classic rockers/blues rock trailblazers Ten Years After will soon be performing for fans throughout the world once more, via a livestream event. Entitled “Blue Crossroads,” the event includes three performances by different artists, Ten Years After on June 17th, Marcus Bonfanti Electric Band on July 1st, and Jawbone on July 15th.

The Ten Years After portion of the performance will be taking place on June 17th at 9pm EDT (with replay access available for 72 hours afterwards), tickets are available for purchase via boxoffice.mandolin.com.

Celebrating more than 50 years since forming, Ten Years After are still making classic blues rock with a contemporary groove – original members Ric Lee and Chick Churchill have continued this legacy and are now rounded out by guitarist/vocalist Marcus Bonfanti and bass icon Colin Hodgkinson.

Ric Lee: “Fans can expect an hour long concert mixing new and old Ten Years After songs such as ‘Land of the Vandals,’ ‘Hear Me Calling,’ ‘I’d Love To Change the World,’ ‘Silverspoon Lady,’ ‘Good Morning Little Schoolgirl’ and, of course, ‘I’m Going Home’ plus other tracks. His growing reputation as a guitar player and vocalist lead to him being asked to join legendary British Rock n Roll band Ten Years After in 2014. He co-wrote and produced their latest studio album as well as appearing on their last two live albums and touring the world extensively including a special 50th anniversary tour to commemorate The Woodstock Festival in 2019.He is also into his tenth year of fronting the Ronnie Scott’s Blues Explosion who hold a monthly residency at the prestigious London venue and have had special guests Jack Bruce Eric Burdon Joe Louis Walker Sarah Jane Morris and John Nemeth to join them. Jawbone began as a collaboration between established solo artists Paddy Milner and Marcus Bonfanti and the lineup was completed by the renowned rhythm section of Rex Horan and Evan Jenkins. Since the release of their eponymous debut album in 2017 Jawbone have gone from strength to strength honing their live exciting show on the road during extensive touring of Europe. In January 2018 they were chosen to back Eric Clapton Van Morrison & Tom Jones at Paul Jones’ legendary charity show at G-Live in Guildford gaining rave reviews from the artists involved and the sell-out audience alike. The distinctive voices of Paddy Milner and Marcus Bonfanti compliment and contrast throughout the songs as they share lead vocal duties on the album. Rex Horan’s searing falsetto vocals create the three-part harmony that has become a hallmark of the Jawbone sound. Taking influences from Little Feat The Band The Rolling Stones and Crosby Stills Nash & Young but also mixing it with the eclectic musical backgrounds that each member brings allows Jawbone to create a very fresh take on rock’n’roll. Following that, Chrysalis Records is releasing a ‘clam shell’ box set released either this month or July covering the years from 1967 to 1975, and October this year is the 50th anniversary of ‘A Space in Time,’ which was our most successful USA release in 1970. A gold album then, it is now certified platinum. The studio version of ‘I’d Love To Change the World’ (an AM Top Forty hit), was first heard on this album. We’re currently planning to play all or almost all of the album on our next live gigs. With luck we’ll start touring again in Europe later this year and hopefully hit the USA in 2022.”

ERDVE comments: "The song name 'Sugretinimas' translates as 'Juxtaposition.' This song is about a tendency to juxtapose different points of view for the sole purpose of comparison while disregarding the actual result of an issue. The purpose of this video is to present different angles of the same subject and to raise the question whether the process of an argument of comparing is meaningful at all, if the result remains the same."

When ERDVE formed in the Lithuanian capital Vilnius in 2016, the band had a clear aesthetic vision of creating a unique heavy sound that experimented with elements from hardcore, sludge, and black metal – yet was not bound by any unwritten “rules” surrounding those genres. ERDVE’s members had already been active in their local scene and performed in various acts such as NYKSTA, SRAIGĖS EFEKTAS, and SPIRALE. A self-made tape version of their debut made its rounds in underground circles and the Lithuanians received the rare honour of being picked straight out of the dreaded demo pile by virtue of their musical strength and compelling quality.

The core ideas behind ERDVE are translated into lyrics, visuals, and sound by in-depth reflection on concepts such as domestic violence, utmost disgusting behaviour, crimes against humanity, and extremism. Their debut album 'Vaitojimas', released in 2018 by Season of Mist, delivered exactely that!

After more than two decades of silence, Finnish cult black/epic metallers and pioneers of the scene DARKWOODS MY BETROTHED carve their long-awaited comeback in stone by signing a worldwide record deal with Napalm Records!

In 2020, the old horde from the original line-up rejoined forces, now augmented by former session keyboardist Tuomas Holopainen as a full member of the band, bringing a significant contribution to the creative process, and Kai Hahto (both Nightwish) as session drummer.

Founded in 1993 in Kitee, Finland, DARKWOODS MY BETROTHED quickly gained a cult status in the black metal underground. In 1995, they released their debut album, Heirs of the Northstar, followed by sophomore album, Autumn Roars Thunder (1996), and Witch-Hunts (1998). Shortly after, the pagan flame of DARKWOODS MY BETROTHED became but a fleeting glimpse in the nocturnal darkness of Eastern Finland. But it never faded away completely.

Seven Spires is an American metal quartet specializing in melancholic tales and tenebrous grandeur. One of heavy metal’s all-time greats, Judas Priest, will finally get the opportunity to celebrate their 50th anniversary this year with the launch of a North American tour this fall. The 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour will also feature Sabaton as openers and is being fueled by the highest charting album of Priest’s career, ‘Firepower,’ which peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200.

Produced by Live Nation, the North American tour – which will run throughout September (kicking off on September 8th in Reading, PA) and November (concluding on November 5th in Hamilton, Ontario), will feature a variety of special effects, which will undoubtedly enhance the might of Priest’s metal.

Judas Priest originally formed in 1970 in Birmingham, England (an area that many feel birthed heavy metal). The original nucleus of musicians would go on to change the face of heavy metal. Throughout the 70's Priest were responsible for helping trail blaze metal with such classic offerings as ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ (1976) ‘Sin After Sin’ (1977) and ‘Hell Bent for Leather’ (1978) as well as one of the genre’s top live recordings ‘Unleashed in the East’ (1979) among others.

It was during the 80's that Priest conquered the world, becoming a global arena headliner on the strength of such all-time classics as ‘British Steel’ (1980) and ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ (1982), as well as being one of the first metal bands to be embraced by the then-burgeoning MTV, plus performing at some of the decades biggest concerts (1980’s Monsters of Rock, 1983’s US Festival, and 1985’s Live Aid) and being the first to exclusively wear leather and studs – a look that began during this era and would eventually be embraced by metal heads throughout the world. Priest’s success continued throughout the 90's and beyond with the addition of drummer Scott Travis, as evidenced by such additional stellar offerings as ‘Painkiller’ (1990) ‘Angel of Retribution’ (2005) and ‘A Touch of Evil: Live’ (2009) the latter of which saw Priest win a Grammy Award for a killer rendition of the classic 'Dissident Aggressor'.

In 2011 new guitarist Richie Faulkner came in to replace the previous guitarist who had left in 2010 - the move seemed to have reinvigorated the band, as evidenced by a show-stealing performance on the 'American Idol' TV program that also served as Faulkner's debut performance with the band (also in 2011 was the release of a new compilation 'The Chosen Few' which included Priest classics selected by some of metal's biggest names) and the 'Epitaph' concert DVD in 2013.

Priest’s next studio effort would arrive in 2014 ‘Redeemer of Souls’ which was supported by another strong tour. In 2017 (and again in 2019) Judas Priest received a nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and got ready to unleash their latest studio album ‘Firepower’ (produced by Andy Sneap and Tom Allom) which received global success and critical acclaim. In 2020, a fully official and authorized photographic book, ‘Judas Priest: 50 Heavy Metal Years,’ was issued.

Few rock or metal acts remain as much of a must-see live attraction as Judas Priest. Having been forced off the road for over a year, Priest will soon make a most-welcomed return to metalheads coast to coast, with the 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour.

This illustrious family tree has produced many sprouts in the past, yet none of them are as brilliant as Quebec's amazing scion: BEYOND CREATION!

BEYOND CREATION saw the light of day in 2005 in Montreal, Canada but it wasn’t until 2010 that the band was ready to hit the stage with their original line-up consisting of Simon Girard, Kevin Chatré, Guyot Bégin-Benoît and Dominic 'Forest' Lapointe. A year later, the band self-released their debut full-length album 'The Aura' (2011), which quickly became a highlight in the genre. Since then, BEYOND CREATION has been known as the progressive, innovative and exciting new metal sound of their homeland, Quebec.

In late 2012, the band had Philippe Boucher (Ex-FIRST FRAGMENT, INCADESCENSE, CHTHE'ILIST, DÉCOMBRES) take Guyot's place on drums and things started moving at a faster pace in 2013, when they joined Season of Mist, re-releasing 'The Aura' and touring North America and Japan. In 2014, BEYOND CREATION released their second masterpiece 'Earthborn Evolution'.

After the addition of Hugo Doyon-Karout (BROUGHT BY PAIN, EQUIPOISE, CONFLUX) on bass, the band focused on touring as much as possible on the 'Earthborn Evolution' album cycle compiling 3 North American tours, 3 European tours, countless shows in Canada, appearances in Mexico, Colombia and Dubaï, sharing the stage with heavy weights like ARCH ENEMY, HATE ETERNAL, MISERY INDEX, DYING FETUS, PSYCROPTIC and OBSCURA. They also took part in multiple large-scale music festivals such as Hellfest (FR), 70 000 Tons of Metal (US), UK Tech-Fest, Montebello Rockfest (CA), Heavy MTL (CA) and Damnation Fest (UK).

In 2018, BEYOND CREATION recorded their highly-anticipated third album 'Algorythm' at The Grid Studio in home land Canada, which is set for release on October 12th, 2018. With the new album, BEYOND CREATION delivers a ferocious blend of technicality, melody, and brutality aided by fang-filled growls, which is interwoven with beautiful progressive interludes. Anti-Flag Announce Fall 2021 Tour Plans + Record Store Day Release Details

BAND TO RELEASE 20/20 DIVISION ON VINYL FOR RECORD STORE DAY ON JUNE 12

Anti-Flag have announced their return to the road and their Fall 2021 headline North American tour dates.

The first leg will kick off on September 14 in Grand Rapids, MI and run through October 14 in Vancouver. Support will come from Dog Party, Grumpster, and Oxymorrons. The second leg features Bad Cop/Bad Cop and Doll Skin. It kicks off on November 2 in Buffalo and runs through November 20 with the ANTIfest show in their native Pittsburgh. All dates are below. "The last time Anti-Flag embarked on a North American tour, it lasted two days before COVID-19 brought it to an end," the band recalls. "After more than a year of challenges, hardships, and misfortune for many the world over, we are pleased to announce that we are hitting the road again. In the grand scheme of current events, this announcement is small but we also take it as an optimistic sign that life is slowly inching out of the pandemic and that gives us a cause to celebrate."

The band continues. "These shows will be a celebration of the fact that we have all come through a very hard time and pay respects to those lost over the past year. NONPOINT Releases Official Music Video for Single "RUTHLESS" TODAY

In less than a month Nonpoint has broken every record in it’s charting history. Now on June 7th they are poised to do it again with the release of their most brutal music video ever. The highly anticipated official music video for "RUTHLESS" premieres on YouTube today at 3pm Eastern.

The team at 361 Degrees Records mentions that, “When Elias presented the concept to the label it was so brutal we honestly weren’t sure if it would even get played. Now that it’s done we realize it’s exactly the video they needed to do and the definition of RUTHLESS.”

The band has never done a video like this before, but says it was like being on a movie set with Director Francesca Ludikar at the helm leading moment after bloody moment of this fast paced, heart pounding roller coaster of a video. “We’re aiming for the temple, swinging for the fences and making heads rock in this one. Only one of us will be left standing in the end.” says the band.

The concept was written by singer Elias Soriano and even he warns viewers, “This is what happens when you take an infectious riff, athememic lyrics, an aluminum baseball bat, some duct tape, and a grudge, put it in a blender and serve it cold blooded.”

NONPOINT released the title track, "Ruthless,"off of their upcoming EP to all digital outlets in May through the band's very own label 361 Degrees Records LLC and was this year's featured track on AEW's "Blood And Guts" on TNT.

London Trio Urne Drop "The Palace of Devils & Wolves" Video

DEBUT ALBUM SERPENT & SPIRIT OUT JUNE 25

London metal trio URNE will release their debut album Serpent & Spirit on June 25 via Candlelight Records.

The band just shared the video for "The Palace of Devils & Wolves."

Bassist/vocalist Joe Nally comments, "When it came to writing 'The Palace of Devils & Wolves,' we wanted to write a straightforward heavy metal song compared to some of the longer pieces on Serpent & Spirit. Inspired by late '70s-Judas Priest and Megadeth Countdown to Extinction with our own spin, I believe we wrote a song that will have people headbanging at shows and festivals all over."

As for the video, Nally says, "The video was shot by Gav Thane and edited by our very own Angus Neyra. We took huge inspiration from the classic '90s metal videos; if there was a new Drilling the Vein video compilation coming out now, we would want this video on there. We wanted the grittiness of 'Davidian' (Machine Head) mixed with the energy of 'Slave New World' (Sepultura) but again, with our own spin."

During the writing process for Serpent & Spirit, Nally found an old demo of the first few minutes of the track and instantly knew it had to be finished. "Desolate Heart" subsequently became the first single released from the album.

There is no single way that Urne describe their sound. It all comes back to one thing: heavy. There are shades of Metallica, Mastodon, and Alice In Chains in the mix — hopping between sludge, tech-metal, doom, hardcore, and anything else with a weighty heart.

Formed by ex-Hang The Bastard bassist Joe Nally and guitarist Angus Neyraafter their former band called it quits, the pair already had a reputation for big, heavy riffs. Getting drummer Richard Harris on board in 2018, they gilded their new outfit with debut EP The Mountain of Gold, which immediately marked Urne out as a formidable new metallic force.

They return with debut album Serpent & Spirit. Heavier, wider, and with an even higher ratio of killer riffs than the EP, it also comes with a weighty concept based around the central character's struggle as he's pulled between good and evil, darkness, and light.

"I had a bit of a bad patch for a few months," explains Nally, revealing the inspiration for the album's lyrics. "I'm absolutely fine now, but I drew on those two months where I just wasn't feeling great. I took that and wrote a story based about that. The actual track listing is done like that film Memento, where it's all in a different order. Maybe one day someone will listen to the lyrics and work out which order the story goes in."

He continues, "The album is called Serpent & Spirit. The spirit is the human experience and the serpent is the evil that tricks your mind. It's about getting pulled apart and trying to find yourself within all of that. So it's almost good and evil, and throughout the album it's about a person getting pulled from the light to the dark."

Due to COVID, the final parts of the album were written over Skype, before being recorded by Chris Fielding (Conan, Electric Wizard, Primordial) at Foel Studios in deepest Wales during lockdown. It was then sent to acclaimed producer Jens Bogren who handled the mastering of Serpent & Spirit.

"Under a Georgia Sky is a song that pays tribute to the various amazing people we meet in our lives, who come into our orbits to teach us things about ourselves and help us grow. It is a song that tries to capture and evoke the reminiscence and nostalgia of a beautiful relationship and/ or friendship, that may not work out at the time, for various reasons, but with the passing of time can be rekindled and rebuilt Under a Georgia Sky" says lead singer-songwriter Rob Gaylard.

Australian guitarist and singer/songwriter Robert Gaylard brings a unique perspective and vision when it comes to creating music. His inspiration and passion for starting The Nomadic began early on as a child after traveling to many countries like Myanmar (formerly Burma), Singapore and the Solomon Islands. His “nomadic” lifestyle continued on into his adulthood when he began to work for the United Nations in various countries such as: Kenya, Somalia, the Sudan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Israel and Palestine. His travels eventually brought him to New York in September of 2012 and motivated him to pursue his songwriting by establishing an indie rock band.

In the year 2019, Rob took a one year leave of absence from the UN to follow his musical passion and focus specifically on songwriting and live performance. The Nomadic released its debut single “Drifting” in September of 2019, "Waiting" was released in April of 2020 and "Beyond Blue" and "Manhattan View" in June. Further singles followed with “Walk the Streets” in October 2020, “Jeannie” in January 2021, and “Skaterpark” in March 2021.

The full album Beyond Blue will be released on 3 September 2021. Influenced by artists like Oasis, Radiohead, The Verve, Bruce Springsteen, Phosphorescent, The War on Drugs, Arizona and The 1975, The Nomadic produces a sound genre like no other as alternative rock meets blues with hints of Americana and pop.

Having been originally influenced by numerous cultures and ways of life, The Nomadic promotes and advocates for issues of social action and innovation, human rights, support for minorities, as well as doing the next right thing, including the idea that it is never too late, including for people to follow their dreams and passions. These values are inspired by Rob’s Nomadic life, his UN experience, and his current role as Head of the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) Underfunded Emergencies Window (UFE), where he oversees the allocation of humanitarian funding to global crises, including protracted conflict and natural disasters.

You remember 3 Years Hollow. The band that jumped onto the scene as part of the Rockstar Uproar tour in 2012 and again in 2014 and saw their debut single,"Remember" hit the charts on national radio.

Anew Addiction is a new project for Dex. “Addiction comes in many different forms. Having an addictive personality, I have struggled with addiction in different ways throughout my life. But I found a way out, something positive that gave me the euphoric feeling I needed, something I could always turn to and it never let me down. The music became my fix and with that I created Anew Addiction."

The debut track, “Disaster”, drops June 4, 2021. The song features Morgan Rose on drums and Justin Taylor on vocals and guitar. Disaster kicks in right away with the rhythm forward sound that will become synonymous with Anew Addiction.

“We chose Save You as the first single to be released because this song holds a special place with us and our past and we wanted to touch on the subject of depression because we feel it affects so many people around us on a day-to-day basis… and most of the time the struggle is internalized rather than reaching out for help” says the band's vocalist Alex Osip.

Arising from the city of Detroit, hard rock/metal quartet Without End erupted onto the scene captivating audiences with their high-energy performances, melodic riffs and shredding solos. Without End released their debut EP Revenge For The Fallen on Feb 1st, 2015. The EP was recorded at Metro 37 Recording Studio in Rochester Hills and mixed and mastered by Kevin Sharpe. "Cryout", the bands' first single garnered the band a lot of early attention. On July 16th, 2016 Without End released their second EP entitled Creature Of Habit, which produced the bands second single "Creature of Habit" which again garnered them some early attention around Michigan. The record was produced, mixed and mastered by Nick Reitman at Giza Studios in Chesterfield, MI. The band supported their second effort with shows alongside Trapt, Saliva, and Famous Last Words.

After a 2 year hiatus, on October 9th, 2020 the band released a music video for 2016 single "Creature Of Habit", which featured the bands new look and line up. The band has announced plans to tour in the near future and that they are working on new music set to come out sometime in 2021. The band currently consists of Alex Osip (vocals/guitar), Chris Silence (Sallans) (vocals/guitar), Steven Schuler (vocals/bass), and Stevie Bertetto (drums).

NIGHT CROWNED Shares Brand New Video Clip for "Fjättrad"! "Hädanfärd" to be Released July 9th on Noble Demon

Consisting of former and current members of legendary acts such as Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System and with a musical vision as clear as it is haunting and disturbing, July 9th will see the release of "Hädanfärd", the sophomore full length record by NIGHT CROWNED. With an intoxicating blend of uncompromising blackened death metal, symphonic arrangements and bleak & mesmerizing soundscapes, "Hädanfärd" is exactly what you would expect to get from these Swedish extreme metal veterans. After the release of the well received first single "Nattkrönt",today the four-piece unleashed a brand new video clip for the track "Fjättrad".

Thematically inspired by a story by singer K. Brutal Panda Records are proud to announce the signing of Bellingham WA’s blackened/death/sludge duo Melancholia. True to its name, Melancholia explores dread and anguish in all of its malformed glory. Unified by bleak lyrical themes, suffocating atmosphere, dissonance and striking visual art, ∫ exist to push the boundaries of extreme music.

Formed in 2018, the duo has already released three EPs that have made waves through the underground. Static Church, their most ambitious release to date, is a meditation into the void of sonic darkness and esoteric philosophy… an immense journey through life, death, and what lies beyond.

"I remember reading a paper about how people can pass away simply because they've given up. Life has beaten them and they feel defeat is inescapable. It was a study by researchers about the “clinical markers” for 'give-up-itis', a crude term used to describe what is known medically as psychogenic death. It usually follows a trauma from which a person thinks there is no escape, making death seem like the only rational outcome. If not arrested, death usually occurs three weeks after the first stage of withdrawal. The researcher quoted: "Psychogenic death is real. It isn't suicide, it isn't linked to depression, but the act of giving up on life and dying usually within days, is a very real condition often linked to severe trauma.

It’s a subject matter that triggers thoughts, perhaps analogously, that we are experiencing a societal or ecological version of this. We have given up on ourselves, and we have just accepted that this is the only, inevitable conclusion, to fade away, wide-eyed and hopeless.

As a society we swing from the opposite ends of the pendulum, of environmental activism, which society bizarrely labels as ‘extremism” to the flaccid apathy of “middle-of-the-road Joe Public”, who questions whether any of this is even real. We don’t need two polar opposites to war with each other, we need the middle ground to get the fuck in the water and learn to swim. We haven’t decided if this song is about fighting on or giving up… I guess we’ll let the listener decide…"
