Zeal & Ardor Announce New Album "GREIF" + Share New Track "to my ilk"

Inventive and iconoclastic, ZEAL & ARDOR isn't just a band; it's a living and breathing entity.

Like any other sentient being, it consumes, evolves, and transforms from one season to the next. Its shape may change though its spirit remains the same. Founded and fronted by Manuel Gagneux, it has only sharpened its claws, lengthened its teeth, and steeled its nerves over the years, growing more undeniable and unpredictable in the process.

After gathering tens of millions of streams and earning widespread critical acclaim, this beast proves as dynamic and dangerous as ever on its fourth full-length, self-produced album, GREIF, set for release on August 23.

The title, GREIF, is inspired by an annual tradition in Gagneux's hometown of Basel, Switzerland. A mythical hybrid creature parades through the streets for the children in symbolism of Basel's working people balking at the oppressive elite on its other side. Given the animal's amalgam of energies and physicality, the name proved apropos.

"The GREIF is a lion, a snake, and a bird," he notes. "During the parade, he turns his backside to the aristocrats and sticks it to the man. It reflects where we are."

At the beginning of this next chapter, the evocative group have chosen to first showcase the album's conclusion, sharing its plaintive and poetic final track, "to my ilk." Loose blues guitar snakes around strong claps as Manuel's voice echoes through a choir. "It has another level of emotion, and it came out just the way I imagined," he remarks.

Watch a visualiser for the track below. Listen here.

Gagneux had the option to rest on his laurels, basking in the global acclaim garnered from three previous albums: Devil Is Fine [2017], Stranger Fruit [2018], and Zeal & Ardor [2022] — praised by NPR, Stereogum, Revolver, AV Club, Paste, Brooklyn Vegan, Alternative Press, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, Metro, The Guardian, and many others. But rather than stagnating, Manuel opted to shake things up for GREIF. Instead of creatively flying solo again, this time he welcomed his bandmates into the studio. As such, the musicians — Tiziano Volante [guitar], Marc Obrist [vocals], Denis Wagner [vocals], Lukas Kurmann [bass], and Marco Von Allmen [drums] — spread their wings alongside him.

"We've really evolved into a tight-knit unit," adds Marc. "Before Zeal & Ardor, we were basically strangers, but we're like a little family now. Each member brings his own unique flavor to the mix, and we all try to make Manuel's songs better in our own way. The most interesting part for me was the new approach of how we work together in the studio."

Decamping to Marc's studio Hutch Sounds in Switzerland, the record came to life in just five months. The frontman excitedly leveraged the talents of his cohorts, featuring three voices for the first time and emboldening the sound from every angle.

"I wanted to expand upon what we had and introduce new colors," Manuel goes on. "There are angry and accusatory moments, but there’s also some solace and happiness. I'm widening the palette of colors we have to paint with. These are avenues we haven't tried."

GREIF will be available on CD, transparent vinyl, and digitally. Pre-orders begin on Friday, April 26 here.

"We invite listeners to hear the full spectrum of the different sides and sounds that make Zeal & Ardor," Tiziano leaves off. "There are some gorgeous moments, but it packs in a lot of intensity and charm. In Manuel's songwriting and the process with every member, there’s a certain intentionality as well as an element of randomness and accident. I can't wait to see people’s reactions."

In January 2024, ZEAL & ARDOR released Play With The Devil, a documentary film by Olivier Joliat and Matthias Willi. The documentary intimately chronicles Manuel Gagneux's journey from the inception of ZEAL & ARDOR through initial tours and a soul-searching period of crisis. The bold mix of Black Metal with old work songs and field hollers by the enslaved — his answer to a racist provocation on the internet — is politically explosive. As a person of color in metal, Gagneux and his music have shone a light on religion, racism, segregation, and cultural appropriation.  However, the sudden surge in acclaim and the weight of being hailed a visionary leader by fans threatened to overwhelm the softly-spoken, introverted artist. Play With The Devil is available now for streaming on major platforms. For more information and to watch, visit here.

Dead Leaf Echo's LG Galleon announces debut CLONE album, shares video for 'Dividing Line'

"Loud, aggressive disharmonies flow into a flood of raging and conflicting emotions where droning reverb-injected riffs, angsty and obsessive excruciatingly ringing John McGeoch-esque guitar strains" ~ White, Light White Heat

"Feeding what are now greedy expectations, fuelled by this smashing earworm, Clone ignites a firestorm of sonic pleasure - enthralled and fascinated with its sonic impression, emotional turbulence and convincing delivery" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Highly Urgent Political Rock" ~  Destroy // Exist

"A monument to what seems like a dying art form, CLONE emerges from the streets of Brooklyn—streets that have been fertile ground for underground music for decades—to remind us of what a band can truly be in an age of digitization, pre-fabrication, and superficiality" ~ Idioteq

Post-punk outfit Clone - a Brooklyn-based supergroup featuring members of The Veldt, Dead Leaf Echo, Namesake and Pilot to Gunner - announces their debut record 'CL. 1' and presents the lead track 'Dividing Line', a song about how Donald Trump tried to start a class war within the USA.

The 'CL. 1' album will be released via Portland-based Little Cloud Records and North Carolina's 5BC Records this summer. The video for 'Dividing Line', which involved claymation, drawing and digital rendering, was created by Preston Spurlock.

Clone is led by LG Galleon, best known as frontman of Dead Leaf Echo,  On this album, he is joined by NYC musicians Gregg Giufree (Pilot to Gunner), Max Idas and Dominick Turi. Live, he is joined by Paul Liziragga (Namesake) and Alex Cox (The Veldt). Clone started playing shows in summer of 2019, building their fanbase organically, brick by brick, word of their incendiary live shows spreading. Each time they play, more are won over.

Operating in what’s rapidly becoming an antiquated model, they’re a unit of parts. Egalitarian in their writing process, one where songs are built upon inchoate sparks offered freely by any member, letting the jams run free in their rehearsal space until there’s a complete song, guided by the alchemy of intuition. There’s no rule book here, and no one defining member, but there is a palpable chemistry.

Co-produced by LG Galleon, their debut record 'CL.1' is a damn auspicious opening volley, completely recorded and mixed by NYC legendary producer Martin Bisi (Sonic Youth, Swans, Brian Eno, John Zorn, Herbie Hancock, Iggy Pop, Helmet, Dresden Dolls, Cop Shoot Cop) at his famed BC Studio, built by Brian Eno, and mastered by Fred Kevorkian.

Clone's lyrics involve the struggles and critiques of the working person's daily life. About the new single 'Dividing Line', LG Galleon says, "This song is called the “Donnie” song. Yes it’s about Donald Trump. It’s when our former failed leader tried to incite a race riot during the Pandemic. The chorus goes “Get up, cause Donnie wants to start a fire, get up cause Donnie wants to start a riot, start a fire fire fire fire fire fire fight."

Evocative, in ethos and ambition, of a time when music still could change lives. Rooted in belief in its galvanizing, redemptive power, the kind which used to be written for the lonely and the scarred and the diffident (before something truly was lost), something deeply enmeshed within the human psyche that could be shared. Clone are fitfully reclaiming this, which at its crux, is the imagination of youth. It’s captured vividly here, and their private universe of sonic exploration is now open to all.

'Dividing Line' is out now, available everywhere digitally, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. As of June 21, the 'CL. 1' album will be released in digital and CD formats.

UK electro-goth outfit History of Guns presents 'No Longer Earthbound', teasing eighth album

“Invisible hooks that will sink further in” ~  Auxiliary Magazine

"As a band, Hertfordshire's History of Guns is something of a musical chameleon. Like Killing Joke and Nine Inch Nails, they’ve taken on new forms whilst remaining easily identifiable in their journey from goth rock to post-punk and darkwave to EDM and wider electro-goth hybrid territory. The tension of opposites that characterises much of their work propels it forth to an electronic beat, the vocals uncoiling, snake-like, atop a steady electronic catchment" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

“Polished, dramatic, full of poise and binding sentiment, and one of awesome sound and feeling” ~ Liverpool Sound and Vision

UK electro-goth post-punk band History Of Guns presents 'No Longer Earthbound', previewing their new 'Half Light' album - their eighth record to date - to be released via the Liquid Len Recording Company. Serving up their unique meta-modernist Industrial sound, this song is about leaving the planet (through space travel, virtual reality or death) and about recalibrating our thoughts away from our own problems and looking at a more global and cosmic picture.

After going on hiatus in 2012, they returned in 2022 with a new album - 'Forever Dying In Your Eyes' - then set about finishing an electronic project they’d begun in 2008. The result is this 'Half Light' album, produced by Max Rael and mixed by Max Rael and Caden Clarkson with mastering by Pete Maher (U2, Pixies, Nick Cave, J&MC, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails).

Formed in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire in 1996, History of Guns became frontrunners of the UK's Wasp Factory / FuturePunk scene of the early 2000s and their 2004 single 'Your Obedient Servant' was ultimately championed by The Quietus and Mick Mercer as one of the “thirty best goth singles of all time”.

At times anything from a duo to a full 5-piece rock band, on this album, founding members Del Alien (vocals) and Max Rael (keyboards, programming) are joined by guitarist Caden Clarkson, the newest member of History Of Guns. The band's ever-changing lineup revolves around the two core members, exploring the human condition through various musical genres.

Max Rael says, "This is a song about shifting focus away from this planet and to other places or realities. The existentialist question about why worry about saving the planet and endangered species when ultimately life will be unlivable on Earth in 1.3 billion years? If everything ends anyway, where else could we go? We pictured escaping the planet either through space travel, virtual reality or death. It is also about what we choose to leave behind as we shed one existence and go looking for another. That’s not to say History Of Guns don’t care about the planet.  We recycle! Though apparently most of it ends up in landfill anyway."

Influenced by Killing Joke, PWEI, Bauhaus, Coil, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy and Nine Inch Nails and Swans, History of Guns was a big part of the UK underground industrial scene of the 00s, playing Whitby Gothic Weekend, as well as Futurepunk and Back to the Futurepunk events.

“Philosopher Dirk Bruere got me interested about the idea of quantum suicide and immortality, where in a “many worlds” interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, it may be that there is no such thing as death from a subjective point of view. It’s about getting out of our heads, and taking a wider view, to the extent of how much do we choose and shape the reality we’re experiencing," says Max Rael.

"The death of the idea of one objective reality, and the embrace of many different co-existing realities would be a major step forward. Ironically the more aware we are of our own confirmation bias the harder it becomes to see. And also the sense that we have to kill the person society wants to shape us to be, to realise the potential of what we can make of ourselves.”

Del Alien - an original punk turned goth - is an anti-authority seeker of truth and the questions behind the questions. Max Rael is in love with the idea of using music to create a separate universe for creating stories and escaping into, was an autistic, music-obsessed child, absorbing a dozen genres before diving into trance after Britpop ruined the alternative scene.

As of April 22, 'No Longer Earthbound' will be available from fine music platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. The 'Half Light' album will released on June 20

Suck Brick Kid Release New Single "What I Do When I Black Out Is None of My Business" via Smartpunk Records

SUCK BRICK KID have dropped their new single "What I Do When I Black Out is None of My Business" via Smarpunk Records

Pre-orders for the album are available here.

The band showcases their natural ability to turn inebriated escapades and some questionable bathroom graffiti findings into inspiring, vibrant punk anthems.

The track, inspired by a real-life venue bathroom doodle that the band stumbled upon during a night out, is a fast-paced first impression of the themes on their upcoming album.

Speaking about "What I Do When I Black Out is None of My Business," the band says, "We actually did some method acting for this track…once we achieved that state of 'blacked-out-ness,' we were able to let it all flow out. This song is one of our favorites from the record because it explores an area we are all too familiar with. Being a burden to yourself and everyone else around you because you just 'know how to have a good time.' Luckily the laundromat is just around the corner.."

ABOUT SUCK BRICK KID:
With a decade of beers literally under their belt, Suck Brick Kid have defined themselves as "loud as fuck and fast as fuck." This is mainly because their vocabulary is small and rudimentary, at best. But also because they really do both of these things better than most. They don't take themselves too seriously and that's infinitely refreshing!

With a slew of conceptual albums already out, Suck Brick Kid aimed high for this new release and found inspiration in one of the lowest places imaginable...a dive bar bathroom. Bathroom graffiti is often over-looked, over-pissed-on, or even over-appreciated (I saw you draw a penis on that stick figure you dirty dog) but Suck Brick Kid wanted to tap into the mindset of some of these individuals and explore what they were (maybe) going through when they made their mark. This opened up possibilities for the songs that vocalist Grant Tchekmeian and guitarist Ian Marchionda cleverly navigated, as they crafted some of the most insane and absurd lyrical content to date. The End Is What I Want should strike a chord with any lover of punk music, dive bars, both of those things, or people who just like a cheeky poop joke — no that was not one, but you see what I did there.

This record is sure to put this band six feet under, in wooden suits, and left for the worms.

But before that happens, they've graced stages of FEST in Jacksonville, Florida, and have also toured alongside Unwritten Law, Palisades, Set Your Goals, and more. However, the band is survived by the following family members (Grant Tchekmeian on vocals, Ian Marchionda on guitar, Daniel Valery on drums, and Hayden Cler on bass).

ABOUT SMARTPUNK RECORDS:
Smartpunk has been a recognizable name in the scene for a long time (Remember that sponsored Warped Tour stage?!). After exchanging several hands and countless ideas of what it could and should be, they decided to start a record label in 2016 with the main idea of focusing solely on reissuing records that have been out of print or never on vinyl. After all, they're a label of vinyl dorks themselves! After releasing Set Your Goals' Mutiny and Gameface's Good, they started to venture into signing newer bands. They actively balance in between many worlds — putting out amazing music from friends and bands that rock, reissuing older titles, and partnering with other incredible labels in our scene and doing exclusive color variants of their releases.

"Since forming the record label, Smartpunk Records has released timeless albums such as Less Than Jake's Anthem, Nominee's Lowlife, RIVALS' Sad Looks Pretty on Me, Virginity's POPMORTEM, and melodic skate punkers The Swellers' My Everest.

Lowlives Share "You Don't Care" Video

West coast based raucous rockers LOWLIVES have shared their new single and music video for "You Don't Care."

The track is taken from their debut album, Freaking Out, due out May 31 via their new label home Spinefarm and marks the end of the band's three-part, "Helvis" video narrative.

Watch the music video for "You Don't Care" below.

Pre-save Freaking Out here.

ABOUT LOWLIVES:
LOWLIVES aren't so much about carefully stoking the embers as pouring on gasoline with merry impetuosity. With vocalist Lee Downer and drummer Luke Johnson joined by guitarist Jaxon Moore and bassist Steve Lucarelli, the nascent band was founded on a shared love of '90s alternative and grunge, and a shared desire to make music once more for little more than the love of doing so.

"During my time away from music, someone bought a pair of child's ear defenders for my wife and I as a present when we announced we were pregnant," Johnson recalls. "I'd put them away in the cupboard, thinking we'd never need them, that I wouldn’t be playing any shows again. But they became this thing that nagged at me, the feeling that my daughter would never know the original me, for whom music was everything. Over time, those feelings came flooding back, as did the hunger, and the innocence. A massive part of me had been missing, and I wanted to get back to doing something pure and for the sheer love of it. That's what Lowlives is. Whatever happens, happens. Let's just Thelma And Louise this off a cliff."

Debut album Freaking Out, set for release in May 31 via Spinefarm, arrives imbued with that same such spirit. The intervening years have, after all, been above all about nurturing exactly that, first through jam sessions at Luke’s home studio and latterly fledgling adventures on the road. A 2018 tour of the UK, hastily arranged following the cancelation of a high-profile support billing the band were mere hours from embarking upon, was formative in bonding the quartet on and off the stage. Performing to an audience of two before bedding down in a trashed squat will do that to even the most seasoned, tour-hardened souls. "It really did cement who we are and what we're about," Johnson says, laughing at the fond memories of the 13-date fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants trek.

Recorded at Chapel Studios with producer Adrian Bushby, the 10 tracks that arrive under Freaking Out's banner are the scintillating end product of their self-funded two-week stay, where the four musicians would work all day with joyous abandon on fleshing out the sketches of songs with which they arrived, before retiring at night to unwind over cans of cider and the football.

"The experience of being forced into that situation of living and working together brought us even closer together, I feel," nods Downer. "We were able to work collectively in a way we hadn't previously, due to the geography of where we all live in the States."

Downer points to his passion for Nirvana and Alice In Chains shining through on tracks such as "Vertigo" and "Swan Dive," Johnson likewise to his obsession with The Smashing Pumpkins on "You Don’t Care." Fans of early-day Foo Fighters, Bush and Stone Temple Pilots will feel at home between Freaking Out’s sheets; admirers of Billie Joe Armstrong ("Freaking Out"), Matt Skiba ("Damien"), and Rivers Cuomo ("Loser"), likewise. Freaking Out is an unashamed celebration of its influences, and the simple beauty of the coalescence of guitar, bass, drums and vocals. "We're making music that excites us because it's what we want to hear," Johnson says, simply.

But make no mistake: there is depth here, too, deeply ingrained in lyrics that mine fears, anxieties, vulnerabilities, and the existential questions that keep us staring at the ceiling in the early hours. Freaking Out is, above all, the distillation of what LOWLIVES is truly about. It's rock music to make you fall in love with rock music all over again. "I thought by now I'd have the answers / Or the power to save my soul," Downer sings on the impassioned "Closer Than You Know." LOWLIVES might not hold that key, but it's the spark that he and Johnson have been missing in their lives, and looking for all along. Let it in, and you might find it's the same for you, too.

Wheel Share New Single "Disciple"

Anglo-Finnish progressive metallers Wheel previously announced their third studio album Charismatic Leaders, which arrives on May 3.

Today, they launch the third single — the dramatic and brooding "Disciple."

Listen here. Watch the visualizer below.

Vocalist and guitarist James Lascelles comments, "'Disciple' is a heated debate between a current and an ex-cult member and both believe they are saving the other — they are also utterly unwilling to consider the opposing point of view.  The discourse between these two made up characters is a reflection of multiple topical debates in modern society and the writing process has given me a chance to reflect on my own behavior; particularly how I respond to ideas I strongly dislike."

The album's first single "Empire" was released last month, and the video currently has over 250k views. Watch it here. Their second single, "Porcelain," was also released earlier this month. Listen here.

Charismatic Leaders was meticulously crafted to meet Wheel's ever-heightening benchmarks and recording with engineers/co-producers Daniel Bergstrand and Fredrik Thordendal (Meshuggah) stretched from August to December 2023. The end result, mixed by Forrester Savell, has consolidated all the gains of what came before: singer/guitarist Lascelles, lead guitarist Jussi Turunen and drummer Santeri Saksala's third album represents their heaviest and most conscious music to date.

Charismatic Leaders clocks in at just under 50 minutes, and will be available as a Limited CD Digipak (also featuring the Rumination EP tracks as bonus), and a Gatefold 180g LP, both featuring artwork from Lucas Mayer (Long Distance Calling, Blackout Problems). Pre-orders are live here.

Wheel will be celebrating the release of their new album with their first ever shows in Australia, supporting labelmates Caligula's Horse, as well as their first ever North American headline shows. Those are posted below.

Capstan Share "What You Want" Video

Florida post-hardcore five-piece CAPSTANAnthony DeMario [vocals], Joseph Mabry [guitar, vocals], Harrison Bormann [guitar], Andrew "Boz" Bozymowski [bass, vocals], and Scott Fisher [drums] — recently announced their new album The Mosaic, out May 24 via Fearless Records. Pre-order it here

The band has just shared the video for the new single "What You Want. It's a fans first anthem, once that captures the band's soaring, emotional, and supremely catchy sonic style. Capstan indulge in a little '80s energy with this track, as it has a glorious throwback vibe, all the while maintaining a modern edge.

Watch it below

"Perhaps an unexpected tune from Capstan, 'What You Want' pokes fun at coming to terms with some surprising and difficult truths about the music industry," the bad muses. "Still, ever earnest, this song is a commitment to what Capstan is and always will be, and a pledge to our most loyal fans."

To make a mosaic, tiny pieces interlock as a larger picture. In similar fashion, distinct elements coalesce as one in Capstan. The band mixes metallic precision with pit-splitting hardcore grooves and the kind of hooks you can't shake. Since 2015, Capstan have progressed with each subsequent move. Following Seasonal Depression [2015] and In The Wake of Our Discord [2018], they made waves with their full-length debut, Restless Heart, Keep Running, in 2019. They toured with the likes of Trash Boat, Doll Skin, Silverstein, and many more. After amassing tens of millions of streams and earning acclaim from the likes of KERRANG! and New Noise, the group paint a definitive body of work on their aptly titled third full-length offering, The Mosaic.

Crossfaith Announce "AЯK" + Share New Song "L.A.M.N" (Feat Bobby Wolfgang"

Japanese rockers Crossfaith have announced their new album AЯK. It arrives on June 26 via UNFD and Warner Music Japan, and marks the band's first album in six years.  Pre-order the record digitally here.

It is a welcome return for the band — after adjusting the global pandemic and a band hiatus, as well a membership change — and serves as quite a milestone.

The album's title AЯK is a message of saying goodbye to the past and hello to a new beginning, and their fresh sound and perspective is reflected in the new material.

Crossfaith have also shared the visualizer for the brand new single "L.A.M.N" (Feat. Bobby Wolfgang).

Watch and listen to this certified banger below.

It's a ferocious anthem, delivered in Crossfaith's signature metal x industrial hybrid style. It will incite mosh pits the world over, thanks to its vicious breakdowns and incendiary message. Punishing riffs and thunderous percussion will send the blood and adrenaline coursing through your veins.

The band comments, "This song is like an antithesis to phenomena like lookism and other political correctness going over the edge today. Through this song, the band conveys the message that it is alright to break down in this corrupted society. It is completely natural that everyone is different. It features Bobby Wolfgang, who is one of the artists we've always wanted to collaborate with, and he definitely brought that edge to this song"

This track follows the previously released single "ZERO." Watch the video here.

Additionally, the band recently announced Daiki Koide as its new guitarist.

The AЯK era kicks off now. Stay tuned for more.

ABOUT CROSSFAITH:
"Playing heavy music is how I feel alive," says singer Kenta Koie. "We want Crossfaith to be the band making music that no one has ever heard before. Crossfaith formed in 2006 and released their debut album The Artificial Theory for The Dramatic Beauty in 2009, followed by The Dream, The Space (2011), Apocalyze (2013), Xeno (2015), and Ex Machina (2018). Each one saw the band blend its love of punk rock, metal, and electronic music in daring new ways. "Good art is how I express myself to other people. It's hard to talk from the bottom of my heart, that's why I write these songs," Koie says. In keeping with their progressive musical journey, 2020's SPECIES EP saw the band continue to push their own sonic soundscape to new grounds. The band dropped the pandemic-penned single "Gimme Danger" in 2022.

Her Head's On Fire Announce "Strange Desires" + Share "Why Are We Alone" Video

ALBUM ARRIVES JULY 19 VIA IODINE RECORDINGS

BAND SHARES "WHY ARE WE ALONE" VIDEO

TOURING + FESTIVAL APPEARANCES PLANNED THROUGH THE YEAR!

HER HEAD'S ON FIRE, featuring members of beloved bands such as Saves the Day, Garrison, Small Brown Bike, and The Bomb, are back!

The band, comprised of singerSid Jagger, guitarist Jeff Dean, bassist Rodrigo Palma, and drummerJeff Gensterblum — is proud to announce its second albumStrange Desires. It arrives on July 19 viaIodine Recordings. The album is available for pre-orderhere

Today, the band has shared the video for the gritty and anthemic first single "Why Are We Alone." Watch it below.

"'Why Are We Alone' was the first song Jeff Dean (guitarist) sent me for the new album," says Jagger. "He had just thrown down these chords that worked so well together so quickly, and emailed me a file of it. I sent it back to him written and recorded in about 45 minutes. Some songs just come together that way, you just hit a sort of 'hive mind' with your bandmates and the sounds all fall right into place. A simple straight forward song that captures some immediacy and desperation for honesty and closure. Is it about a broken relationship, is it about the lack of existence of a god, or is it a desperate love letter to addiction? All we know is we are all we have, so hold on tight, my brothers and sisters."

Regarding the album as a whole, Jagger states, "While the first album was the band getting to know each other's musical tendencies, I believe the new album is a crystallization of our shared vision, brought into focus by John Agnello's expert mixing. The guitars are still ferocious, but the rhythm section finds better footing, with almost Fugazi leanings. These are the most realized melodies I have been able to write thus far, but most of these songs were written within about 10 minutes. The band's existence has always been somewhat effortless. I hope that can be heard here. It's loud, fun, and cathartic."

ABOUT HER HEAD'S ON FIRE:

"Strangeness is a necessary ingredient in beauty." — French Poet, Charles Baudelaire.

Her Head’s On Fire is a fierce quartet with an impressive pedigree (Garrison, Small Brown Bike, The Bomb, and Saves the Day) serving up heart-seeking post-hardcore and emotive rock with enlivening riffs and melodies. The indie rock supergroup offers their strangeness to beauty with Strange Desires, their sophomore effort and follow-up to their debut, College Rock & Clove Cigarettes. Strange Desires deepens and expands on their first release. It has moments reminiscent of late '80s New Wave, early '90s indie, and post-hardcore peppered with poetic oddities that make the band’s music memorable.

From the gauntlet-throw of an opener "Cuts" through the swaggering sneer of "Aren’t I the Champion" to closer "The Rain," this record is full of intentional sidewinders— smart, literate songs about the most primal feelings and experiences we share as humans.

In some ways, this increased heft is emotional. The aforementioned track, "The Rain," is rooted in both the tragic 2021 passing of guitarist Jeff Dean's friend and Planes Mistaken for Stars vocalist/guitarist Gared O'Donnell, as well as the death of vocalist Sid Jagger's father.

In other ways, it is sonic. Legendary producer John Agnello (Jawbox, Son Volt, Kurt Vile, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr) mixed the record, Jeff Dean recorded it, and Jason Narducy (Superchunk, Bob Mould, Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters) co-produced it along with the band. The result is a captivating indie rock wall of sound from start to finish.

“We Stay Loud” - is actually the most contemporary statement to say “let’s swim against the current” in this black-tie devil’s masquerade. This is no peaceful resistance, no love-parade.

As Soulmates, we’re always trying to find a musical way to express ourselves, to give a comment to our world, and musically it’s probably the hardest rock song on the album.

It’s a very clear statement, a revenge of analog in a digital world.

The single has it all – musically and socio-politically. The Soulmates counter the relentless, literally harsh diagnosis of the lyrics with the poetic power of the music as energetic therapy. ALCEST - RELEASE NEW SONG 'FLAMME JUMELLE'

Today French shoegaze/indie act ALCEST relase their brand new song 'Flamme Jumelle'. The new album Les Chants De L'Aurore will be released on June 21st via Nuclear Blast Records.

Neige states:
"Despite its more accessible vibe, this song is actually the most personal song of the album for me. "Flamme Jumelle", which means "Twin Flame", is about the idea of loss in general and the difficulty of coping with the absence of someone you deeply loved. It could be a family member, a friend, or a partner. On a more spiritual level, the title refers to the possibility that certain souls are connected in this life and beyond, and that separation is temporary and just a mortal concept."

About ALCEST:
For principal songwriter and frontman Neige, ALCEST has always been a gateway to the otherworldly, a means of exploring his spirituality. An elemental two-piece, completed by long-serving drummer and creative confidante WinterhalterALCEST seem to dip their toes in a multitude of musical genres without ever quite fitting in. “In the metal scene ALCEST is a weird band, in the indie/post-rock scene ALCEST is a weird band- we never quite fit in,” Neige reflects. “This is how I feel in life, always an outsider; It’s not a problem, it’s just the way it is.”

SYK Embrace the Untamed on New Single

SYK emerge from the shadows, where relentless rage fuels creativity. With a resounding roar, the Italian progressive death metal band present "I am the beast", the opening song off their ground-shaking new album, eartHFlesh.

Listen to "I am the beast" below.

eartHFlesh is out May 10 on Season of Mist.

Brutal despair might rule the world, but syk rise above all. Over the past ten years, they've grown from an underground whisper to a defiant scream heard from far beyond their native Italy.

On "I am the beast", Stefano Ferrian, Federico De Bernardi di Valserra and their new band of revolutionaries  issue another savage refusal to surrender to the darkness. Harrowing riffs, piercing screams and a stampede of blast beats awaken the beast within us all.

SYK is a metal band that came into existence in 2013 when Stefano Ferrian and Federico De Bernardi di Valserra decided to embark on a new musical venture following the disbandment of their previous project, .psychofagist. They were soon joined by the immensely talented vocalist Dalila Kayros, whose vocal skills left a deep impression on the band during live performances.

In May 2014, syk released their debut album titled Atoma through L'Inphantile Collective. The album caught the attention of Philip H Anselmo from Housecore Records, who not only expressed his appreciation for the band's work but also offered them a deal for their second album. This second album, titled I-Optikon, was released on December 2, 2016, and was produced by Philip H Anselmo himself. The album was notable for its technical compositions that offered a unique and unparalleled listening experience, as Metal Trenches aptly described it.

Following the release of their second album, the band welcomed their long-time friend Marcello Cravini as a permanent member, taking on the role of the second guitarist. syk subsequently embarked on extensive tours across Europe in 2017 and 2018 and had the honour of being the official support act for GODFLESH during their Italian/Slovenian run in May 2018. Additionally, they also participated in the prestigious Roadburn Festival in the same year, further cementing their reputation as a promising metal act.

In 2019, Federico made the difficult decision to leave the band due to personal reasons, and shortly after, the global pandemic hit, disrupting the band's search for a new drummer. However, towards the end of 2020, Mauro Maraldo joined syk as their new drummer, and with their lineup complete, they wasted no time in entering the studio to record their third album. This album, titled Pyramiden, was released on March 11th, 2022, through Housecore Records/Nuclear Blast. The album's distinct and powerful character earned syk high praise, with MetalheadCommunity recognizing them as one of the most promising metal acts of the time.

Pyramiden received further acclaim when it was included in the ProgSpace Awards 2022 under the category of 'Album of the Year 2022/Extreme Prog Category', alongside esteemed acts like Fallujah, Allegaeon, Cult of Luna, and Conjurer. Unfortunately, soon after the album's release, both Mauro and Dalila had to depart from the band due to personal reasons.

However, syk, known for their sonic evolution, decided to press on. Founding members Stefano and Marcello continued working on their fourth album while actively searching for new members. Alan La Roca joined the band as the bass player, solidifying the lineup, but the search for a drummer remained a challenge. It wasn't until Federico Leone answered their call that the band found their new drummer. With the lineup in place consisting of Stefano Ferrian as the new frontman, guitarist, and main songwriter, Marcello Cravini on guitars, Alan La Roca on bass, and Federico Leone on drums, syk took on a new form.

In early 2023, syk caught the attention of Season Of Mist, who signed them for the release of their fourth album, eartHFlesh. This album not only marks the band's latest offering but also signifies their first decade as a band. With a reinvigorated sound and an intensified sonic progression, syk continues to captivate listeners and solidify their place in the metal scene.

Mark & Maggie O'Connor Set to Release New Album 'Life After Life' 4/26 via ONErpm

Global music company ONErpm is proud to announce the release of Life After Life, the latest album from GRAMMY Award-winning Americana and bluegrass artists Mark and Maggie O’Connor, which will be distributed on all platforms next Friday, April 26.

A seven-time CMA Award winner, Mark O’Connor is a legendary multi-instrumentalist famous for his work on fiddle, guitar and mandolin. On Life After Life, Mark not only brings these talents to bear but is also the principal songwriter and harmony singer, in addition to producing the album. Maggie, a talented artist in her own right who won a GRAMMY for playing and singing bluegrass with her husband Mark in the O’Connor Band, debuts as the lead singer as well as an instrumentalist.

  • Pre-save the album HERE

  • Watch the album trailer HERE

  • Watch official music videos from the album below.

The compelling theme flowing throughout Life After Life is the idea that while our common experiences can turn into challenges—even hardships—we still seek optimism and hope. As Mark explains, “Our new songs are about learning to fall in love with life again after being utterly frightened by it,” as this collection took shape during the pandemic.

The title track, written by Mark and folk singer/wordsmith Joe Henry, references poet Denise Levertov, who writes of a particular woman whose “life after life after life goes by without poetry, without seemliness, without love.” The songwriters wanted to build on the idea but with some surety.

As Henry explains, “For me, it speaks quite simply to the way life continues to tumble toward us: not in neat, compartmentalized chapters but in overlapping, cross-fading––confounding, misleading, wondrous and glorious––concurrently racing episodes we are nonetheless invited to embrace…even when they mystify us. Maybe even especially when they do.” Mark agrees, saying, “Joe’s words truly embody why this song is the perfect title track as the lyrics so genuinely describe the lives Maggie and I lead together.”

Mark’s original songs on Life After Life range from taking a leap of faith together in “We Just Happened to Fly” to testing faith in “All We Will Be,” both of which he co-wrote with Henry. “Ride Towards Home,” a song Mark wrote with Maggie, talks about horses and what they have meant to mankind, while “Spice of Life,” written with Jim Parker, is about remembering to enjoy the little things. Mark wrote the current single being offered to Americana radio stations, “One Sunray At A Time,” about raising his daughter, Autumn.

Each of the album’s songs showcase intricate interludes featuring a wide range of acoustic instruments. Mark says he “drew upon years of experience interpreting vocal songs instrumentally, while also reflecting on my work with some of the great popular songwriters of our time, such as James Taylor, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan.” O’Connor adds that after sitting in a recording studio next to Dylan as he noodled on his guitar between takes, “It raised my curiosity about him purely as a musician. So I designed the solo sections for these songs by imagining what it would sound like if Dylan fully articulated his own music as a guitar soloist.”

Along this same vein, Mark’s arranging skills and Maggie’s storytelling vocals offer new interpretations of three covers for the album: “Love’s in Need of Love Today” by Stevie Wonder; “Something to Love” by Jason Isbell; and the timeless “Wildflowers” by Dolly Parton.

“Dear Mark, I got the wonderful cut of “Wildflowers.” I was very, very proud of both you and Maggie. It always touches my heart when somebody likes one of my songs well enough to do it, especially someone as great as you. I’ve always admired you and respected your talent. And Maggie, you sound awfully sweet. Just wanted you to know that I received it and I love it.
Love, Dolly.”

Wonder’s “Love’s in Need of Love Today” likewise offers a message as relevant now as it was in the 1970s, notes Maggie, adding further that “Isbell’s song has great advice on finding something you enjoy to get you through the tough times. We picked these three songs to cover,” she explains, “because they gave voice to our own feelings, given how recent history has changed our landscape.”

The recording of Life After Life is an all-acoustic Americana sound garden, with the authoritative upright bass of Dennis Crouch, an old-fashioned drum set masterfully played by veteran John Gardner and the O’Connors using practically every acoustic instrument in their collection. You will hear a Civil War–era Martin guitar, a hundred-year-old Gibson mandocello and a string quartet consisting of two violins, a viola and cello commissioned by Daniel Pearl’s family (for the Wall Street Journal writer killed in Pakistan at the outset of the Iraq War). The Pearl family loans these beautiful instruments to students of the O’Connor Method String Camp each year as a message of fighting hatred.

Life After Life concludes with a heartaching piece. Mark and Maggie return to the violin duo setting their musical relationship began with 10 years ago, but this time in a way even more deeply felt. Mark composed a violin duo reminiscent of his own “Appalachia Waltz” that he recorded with internationally renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma but based on the old Ukrainian folk song “Verbovaya Doschechka” (the willow board). The couple learned the traditional melody line while performing with string players from the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in an online violin choir recorded in March 2022 while orchestra members were in basements-turned-bunkers taking shelter from Russian missiles.

“It is an honor to team up with the O’Connors to showcase their many talents and musical creativity,” says Tim Wipperman, managing director of ONErpm’s Nashville office.

Replacire Release Brain Busting New Single

"A band on their way to the top" - Angry Metal Guy
"
Leave you with a smile on your face and the horns in the air" - Metal Injection
"Mixes the pummeling intensity of Dying Fetus with the proggy eccentricity of Leprous" - No Clean Singing
"Engrossing brutality and neck-breaking charm. Truly the best of both worlds" - Dead Rhetoric

No one can outsmart Replacire. Not only does the band hold several degrees from Berklee College of Music. Even their name is something of a puzzle. But for their long-awaited third album, they weren't interested in pumping out just another set of rigorously technical death metal. As their new single so finely demonstrates, they wanted to flex both their brains and brawn.

Listen to "A Fine Manipulation" below.

The Center That Cannot Hold comes out June 21, 2024 on Season of Mist.

Order & Stream: https://orcd.co/replacirethecenterthatcannotholdpresave

Metalheads of all shapes and sizes have come to count on Replacire for a dizzying mental workout. The Center That Cannot Hold keeps those synapses firing. On "A Fine Manipulation", drummer Joey Ferretti and bassist Zak Baskin hardly break a sweat as they run you through a gauntlet of stomach-turning tempo shifts. Before the song is halfway through its compact four-minute runtime, Poh Hock has already lapped the field with a solo that hurdles through the air like a sprinter.

"A Fine Manipulation" will twist even the brainiest tech-death scholar into a pretzel, but the band's new single works out all your core headbanging muscles. After warming up with some curls of melodic dissonance and a few short but clenched bursts of nervy shredding, Hock gets a spot from rhythm guitarist Eric Alper as the two lock into the kind of steadily pulverizing downhill chug that's bound for the mosh pit.

"During our last tour, we noticed that fans really responded to the parts of our set that are heavier and more crushing", says Alper, who when he's not cranking out records at Ugly Duck Studios is competing as a body builder. "When writing our new album, we tried to come up with more songs like this one. 'A Fine Manipulation' retains that technical density that metal fans love, but it's also more straightforward and hard-hitting in a way that makes people move around".

Of course, it wasn't so easy for Replacire to stick to that relatively simple blueprint. Like their current label mates and former tour mates Gorguts and Beyond Creation,  this band has always taken their time when it comes to the heavy lifting of writing a new album. But between the global pandemic, countless Zoom calls, bouts with writer's block, depression, anxiety, sleep paralysis and one near trip to the hospital, their new album is seven long years in the making.

But despite what the title might suggest, The Center That Cannot Hold holds strong and steady. Like any song that's worth its weight in heavy metal, "A Fine Manipulation" channels that chaotic shit storm into a concentrated, empowering force. James Dorton is so imposing that even his cleans thunder like Zeus, but his growls have never struck more fear.

"I am your lord god", he roars, as if throwing the weight of the world off his shoulders, before the rest of the band launches into the album's most muscular breakdown.

On "A Fine Manipulation", Replacire prove they're the full package.

When Replacire started thinking about their third album, they gravitated around a simple idea. Write some caveman riffs to feed the mosh pit the next time they went out on tour. Of course, like any good technical death metal band that’s worth its weight in colored sands, these whiz kids deviated from their initial thought pattern. It wasn’t easy. Heck, they ended up crawling down a seven-year rabbit hole. But on The Center That Cannot Hold, the Boston band flex all their muscles

"This was a grueling process", says guitarist Eric Alper. "But it was worth it in the end".

On the surface, Replacire starts and ends with Alper. After all, the band is just his name spelled backward. Alper is a competitive bodybuilder with a mean and lean right rhythm hand, but don't let those beefy credentials fool you. When it comes to the studio, his brain does all the heavy lifting. By day, Alper produces music for other artists, as well as TV and movies. He's a proud alumnus  of Berklee College of Music, which is where he formed Replacire with four classmates back in 2009.

Using the money that they savvily raised on Kickstarter, Replacire self-released their debut album by the end of 2012. A hybrid of thrash, prog and death metal, The Human Burden punched through the underground like a cyborg's fist. "This is what would have happened if Chuck Schuldiner were still alive today and mixed up with the likes of Obscura and Opeth at the same time", Metal Injection gushed. After tours with Hate Eternal and Beyond Creation and an unintentional private showcase for a certain label rep, Replacire signed with Season of Mist in 2016. The band wasted no time before making a quick first impression. While still head-spinning, their second album landed with the decisive force of a first-round knockout.

“This group has set the tone for modern, rhythmically-centered death metal”, proclaimed Loudwire, who named them one of the top 5 bands amongst the next generation of death metal. “It’s time to wake up and hop aboard Replacire’s train”.

Indeed, Replacire were chugging along with a full head of steam. But there's a reason why their new album is called The Center That Cannot Hold. After all, this is extreme metal. Things were bound to go flying off the rails at some point. Before they could even step out on their next headlining tour, the band's lineup completely turned over. While their momentum stalled, Alper went searching for replacements.

Luckily, he didn't have to go any further than his old stomping grounds. Alper linked up with Zak Baskin, who had filled in on bass for parts of Do Not Deviate. Alper then reconnected with Kee Poh Hock, a guitar whiz who'd lived with Baskin when all three were students at Berklee. Even though he graduated a few classes after them, Joey Feretti was so advanced behind the drum kit that he became Alper's roommate. With mighty vocalist James Dorton joining fresh off Black Crown Initiate's breakout, the new-and-improved Replacire were all set to hit Alper's Ugly Duck Studio come March of 2020.

No one needs to be reminded of what happened next. Replacire  always grind in the studio, taking their sweet time to fine tune every technical detail down to the last seventh string. "It never ceases to amaze me the way other metal bands just churn stuff out", Alper says. "It doesn't come easy for us. So many hours go into so few seconds of music". But when the pandemic shut the world down, writing slowed to a crawl amidst the endless slog of Zoom sessions. With live music shut down for the foreseeable future, suddenly, their well-laid plan for pumping out an album of crowd killers seemed more and more like a flimsy proposition. To stay afloat, Alper sold the band's van and moved out of their rehearsal space.

"Everything that I had built to support the band was falling apart", Alper says.

The mounting stress would've left a lesser band bloody-tongued and screaming. But despite being stuck inside this perfect shit storm, Replacire banged their heads together and pushed through. "Living Hell" was inspired by a nasty spell of sleep paralysis that Dorton suffered after witnessing a traumatic event. "In the wake of suicide", he groans, shrouded by eerie pangs of distortion. Alper was battling his own bouts with anxiety and depression that were brought on by a rather severe case of writer's block, but even when all he could stand to do was lay on the couch while humming through a half-finished riff, Poh Hock would pick up his Strandberg and zip past the finish line. "The Helix Unravels" could twist all of Mensa into a pretzel with its interlocked chugs and squealing fret bends.

The Center That Cannot Hold is crammed full of mind-bending tech-death workouts. Baskin’s unfettered groove serves as the perfect springboard for another transcendent Hock solo halfway through "Hoard the Trauma Like Wealth", though his reverberated bass echoes like a sea of voices trapped at the bottom of a well on "The Ghost in the Mirror". The title track unspools under Feretti's syncopated snare hits and precision blasting, though Alper was the real drill sergeant. "I wanted the vocals to sound like they do on Slipknot's self-titled album, where Corey is gasping for air". Dorton took the inspiration to heart, running through full takes, with no stops, for hours on end. Heck, his vocal chords were so tattered and torn that he narrowly avoided a trip to the hospital.

"We poured all of our blood, sweat and tears into this album", Alper says. "It took years off my life. There were plenty of times where I wanted to quit. But I'm glad we didn't, because this is our best album. Everything from the overall production down to the lead guitar parts took a step up. The tone is more serious  The songs are still techy buy they're also a lot heavier. I'm proud of us".

On The Center That Cannot Hold, Replacire stand stronger than ever.

Colorado's grindcore 4-piece, Poolside At The Flamingo have dropped the third single from their upcoming EP, 'Accabadora' out via Blood Blast Distribution on May 22nd. The new track, titled "Seething", can be streamed HERE and the visualizer can be found below.

Speaking on their new release, Poolside At The Flamingo share

"We worked a little more slam into this track. This song is about the evil side that everyone has but rarely lets loose. It's communicated nicely towards the end of the song with some agonizing repetition backed by raw vocals followed by a call out.”

Seething" is the third single from the band's upcoming EP, 'Accabadora'. It follows previous singles "Hell On Earth" and the EP's title track "Accabadora" which heralded the new release and landed with an epic music video featuring some very special guests in the form of the band's kids, watch HERE. The 'Accabadora EP', set to drop on May 22nd, is a bold statement from Poolside At The Flamingo, showcasing their growth as musicians and their commitment to pushing the boundaries of extreme music by blending genres to produce the most brutal and unrelenting tracks possible with a strong focus on having fun and not taking themselves too seriously. Speaking on the upcoming EP release, the band share

"The Accabadora EP is the first release that we're truly proud of and feel embodies the sound that we're looking to achieve. The songs on this EP were written with more care and attention than any other album/ep we've released. To us, it's the perfect blend of erratic grindcore and soul-crushing breakdowns."

Poolside At The Flamingo will be playing a string of headline shows this spring. Full list of shows and tickets are available from poolsideattheflamingo.com

Stay tuned for more from Poolside At The Flamingo soon and get ready for sheer, unbridled brutality on May 22nd when they release the 'Accabadora' EP.

Gramercy Arms presents fourth album 'The Making Of The Making Of' and live Magic Door session for 'Never Say Anything'

"A fabulous and fresh slice of positivity, wrapped up in a finely-tuned package of upbeat and harmonious pop-rock that will leave you wanting more and checking local concert listings to see if the band is heading your way. Impeccably performed; superbly arranged and produced" ~ The Spill Magazine

"Wistful, bittersweet and soaring power pop... With echoes of the likes of Teenage Fanclub and Dinosaur Junior, as well as the classicism of 80s indie-pop, it’s yearning and hooky in all the right places, a gleaming melodic pick me up" ~ God is in the TV Zine

Made up of members from New York and New Jersey, indie pop-rock collectiveGramercy Armsprese nts their fourth album'The Making Of The Making Of', released via Montclair, NJ-basedMagic Door Record Label, along with a new video for'Never Say Anything (Magic Door Session)'.

Gramercy Arms is a revolving collective of musicians and artists, masterminded byDave Derby (The Dambuilders, Lloyd Cole) and producerRay Ketchem (Guided by Voices, Luna, Elk City). Inspired by the artistic heyday of ‘70s and ‘80s New York, Gramercy Arms makes addictive indie pop - exquisite hook-laden melodies filled with lyrics that will have you floating back in time and remembering your favorite mistake.

With many of the songs recorded during the same sessions for the band’s 2023'Deleted Scenes' album, 'The Making Of …' is decidedly more of a band album with a looser and more raucous approach featuring live in-studio performances and an even wider array of contributors.

Produced, recorded and mixed by Ketchem at Magic Door Recording in Montclair, NJ, this album was mastered by Ketchem and award-winning engineerGreg Calbi (John Lennon, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Talking Heads, Patti Smith, Tom Petty).

Earlier, Gramercy Arms released'Never Say Anything', a gorgeously performed paean to paranoid times featuringLysa Opfer (Aeon StationandMark Lizotte (Diesel), and'After the After Party',a rueful power pop gem about chances missed and taken, featuring longtime collaboratorsKevin March (Guided by Voices,The Dambuilders,Shudder to Think),Hilken Mancini (Fuzzy, the Monsieurs),Rainy Orteca (Joan As Police WomanDead Air)andMike Errico.

Both albums are loaded with talent, involving Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Nada Surf, Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha), Sean Eden (Luna), Phoebe Summersquash (Small Factory), Renée LoBue (Elk City, Flowers of America), Kendall Meade (Mascott), Verena Wiesendanger (Semi Gloss), Claudia Chopek (Bright Eyes, The Little River Band, Echo of the Ghost), John Leon (Roky Erickson, Royal Arctic Institute), Rafa Maciejak (Lloyd Cole and the Negatives, Ivy), Jules Verdone, Richard Alwyn-Fisher (King Canutes, The Winter Drinks), Steve Hurley (Gigolo Aunts), Carl Baggaley (Elk City, Royal Arctic Institute), Peter Hess (Phillip Glass Ensemble, Slavic Soul Partyand Gary Burton (Dovedale). 'Deleted Scenes' also involves the legendary Lloyd Cole.

"I initially thought about doing a double album and then decided against it. To me 'Deleted Scenes' and 'The Making Of The Making Of' are companion pieces and part of a larger work. I think of them as two sides of a double album and may release them as a double vinyl album in the future. To me, there is an understated, almost dark horse element to “The Making Of …”  that gives it a special charm. In many ways 'Deleted Scenes' was more of the ‘obvious’ A-tracks, whereas 'The Making Of …' is just more fun. Songs like 'Lux', 'Susan' and 'The Long Game' capture that for me. The fact that the album has 4 different drummers with different feels and approaches has a lot to do with that because it still hangs together," says Dave Derby.

"Even though these songs came from the same sessions, this album was much more of a band record whereas “Deleted Scenes” was more about me and Kevin March building the tracks up together. Many of these songs were live full-band takes. I think that approach shows up in the final versions."

As of April 26, 'The Making Of the Making Of' album is available from fine music platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify and Bandcamp. Their record release party takes place that evening at Berlin NYC, also featuring performances by Hilken Mancini Band and The Gershwin Brothers.

Speaking on today's news, the band commented:

Left to Suffer has taken many sonic gambles when it comes to creating music that describes us as a band. Trial and error, riff after riff, has only led us to molding a sound that is completely ours. Forever, is the culmination of years of risk-taking. Suffering is a constant component of the human condition. The same way that wherever there is sun, there is bound to be rain—wherever joy can be found, there is suffering to be found in equal amounts, if not more. In the same fashion that suffering is a mandatory part of existence, Atlanta-based nu-deathcore outfit Left to Suffer have made themselves a mandatory part of the contemporary heavy music scene. Boldly blending brutalizing deathcore laden with skin-rending blast beats and bombastic breakdowns with catchy, hook-filled and glitchy nu metal, these Georgian heavyweights formed their own niche within the the underground and filled it in record time, providing a nigh-endless stream of new music paired with an incessant touring schedule—there’s almost no way you haven’t suffered at their hands yet.

Formed in 2019, Left to Suffer instantly garnered world-wide attention with the release of their debut single, Burden.” Before the impact from their initial, explosive track had faded, the group’s debut full length, A Year of Suffering was released just one year later in mid-2020. A Year of Suffering—even though it was released in the throes of a global pandemic that would halt touring and alter many other means of conventional promotion—was met with immense success, skyrocketing Left to Sufferinto relative stardom in the bustling underground of extreme music. Before long, the band’s follow-up EP, On Death, would release in April of the following year. Featuring guest vocal appearance from metal and deathcore titans Tom Barber (Chelsea Grin), Lochie Keogh (Alpha Wolf) and Ryo Kinoshita (formerly of Crystal Lake), On Death was Left to Suffer’s catalyst that would take them from well-known to notorious peddlers of all things groovy and heavy. Never to be caught slacking, later that year the band would release another stand-alone single, D.N.R.,” featuring Lorna Shore’s Will Ramos and Ov Sulfur’s Ricky Hoover—two more Goliaths in the world of deathcore.

By the time 2022 rolled around and the world had essentially reopened after an international hiatus from touring, Left to Sufferhad already been across most of the continental United States. Touring with the likes of Bodysnatcher, Boundaries, Lorna Shore and The Last Ten Seconds of Life throughout the second half of 2021, the band’s 2022 would be dominated by their tour with SPITE and Carnifex on the Dead in My Arms fifteen year anniversary tour—as well as the release of their sophomore EP, And Dying Forever. The spiritual successor to On Death, And Dying Forever was produced by Emmure’s Joshua Travisand saw Left to Suffer continue to hone their unique ability to blend flashy, hectic elements of nu metal and groove metal into a ferocious deathcore backbone. Left to Suffer would continue an extensive touring regimen into 2023, punctuated by the release of their sophomore full length record, Feral and a brief follow-up EP, Noah. Feral saw the band dive into their heavier side with a flashy, experimental edge, featuring Fit for An Autopsy’s Joe Badolato and trap-metal superstar Kim Dracula—highlighting the band’s ability to blend industrial elements and trap-tinted undertones while still bringing a peerless and powerfully brutal performance to the table. Noah, on the other hand, was co-produced by Three Days Grace’s Neil Sanderson and Howard Benson, and saw the band incorporating elements of melancholic-yet-anthemic arena metal alongside a stuttering, pummeling progressive metalcore tint to their persistent backbone of bustling deathcore. Noah and Feral see Left to Suffer demonstrating that while they can tackle a variety of sounds and styles, they are always uniquely recognizable, refusing to compromise the core aspect of their immensely energetic sound.

The year is now 2024—and it’s already been a landmark one for Left to Suffer. Fresh off of two nation-wide tours supporting Veil of Maya’s [m]other tour and Gideon’s More Power. More Pain. Tour Part II—and a performance supporting King Sullivan at Colorado’s premiere music venue Red Rocks Amphitheater yet to come. Alongside these performances comes a third full length record, Leap of Death, a stunning collection of some of the band’s most aggressive—and experimental—songs to date. With songs like “Lost in the Dark,” featuring Paleface SwissMarc Zelli showcasing the band’s ruthlessness at its most bleak and devastating juxtaposed against songs like “Forever,” with a catchy, poppy and borderline industrial intro and chorus, there’s no denying that there isn’t much out there like what Left to Suffer are currently crafting. Two colossal tours, one groundbreaking record and a performance at one of the country’s most legendary venues already planned and with over half of 2024 yet to go, it seems that, as with all of life’s constants, the Suffering is bound to continue. - Connor Welsh

Taylor Barber - vocals

Jacob Gordon - guitar

Peter Higgs - guitar

Christian Nowatzki - bass

SETH Announce Revolting New Album

In an era where the echoes of revolution have dulled to whispers, SETH roars back into the heart of the metal realm with their new album La France des Maudits. Its lead single, "Et Que Vive le Diable !", channels the unrest of spirits that once roamed the revolutionary streets of Paris. The song is a declaration, a spell that rekindles the flames of rebellion and ignites the soul with insurrection's fire.

Watch the video for "Et Que Vive le Diable !" Below;

La France des Maudits is out July 14, on Bastille Day, through Season of Mist.

Standing as titans amidst the cobblestones soaked in the lexicon of the damned, Seth wields La France des Maudits as a weapon against the sacrosanct silence that has befallen the music landscape. Each note is a march, each lyric a cry in the dark – this is black metal not as it was, but as it should be: unapologetic, unforgiving, and unyieldingly innovative.

In "Et Que Vive le Diable !", Seth crafts a grandiose narrative interlacing tales of divine defiance and liberation, draped over the backdrop of atmospheric black metal at its most artful and insurrectionist. Seth re-emerges, not just to reign but to revolutionize, not just to echo but to speak truths into the void of divine oppression.

Recorded in the venerable Sainte Marte studio under the watchful gaze of Francis Caste, La France des Maudits boasts a lineage of musicians whose names are etched into the pillars of the genre. Accompanied by the ghostly artistic visage captured by photographer Andy Julia and brought to life by director & producer Claudio Marino at Artax Film, "Et Que Vive le Diable !" is accompanied by a masterful visual production depicting Seth's macabre take of the French revolution.

In the solemn shadows of a lyrically resurrected Paris, where the whispers of revolution still haunt the cobblestones and the phantom caress of the guillotine's blade lingers in the air, stands a band – not merely of musicians, but of modern Marats, Robespierres in leather and lace, anointed with the spirit of insurrection. SETH, the harbingers of a dark yet fervidly awaited dawn, are poised once more to unleash a tempest upon the sanctified silence of the contemporary music scene with their newest auditory uprising, La France des Maudits.

The history of black metal formation SETH and Season of Mist spans back to the early days of the French metal scene. The band’s debut Les Blessures de L’Ame (1998) was one of the first releases on the label. This album is now regarded as a cornerstone in French black metal, pioneering the usage of their native tongue on a black metal record.

The release of Les Blessures de L’Ame quickly gained international attention and SETH built a solid fanbase. The French blasphemers signed a two-release deal with Osmose Productions and participated on the MAYHEM cult tribute album Originators of the Northern Darkness alongside IMMORTAL and BEHEMOTH. The second full-length The Excellence came out in 2000 and featured a contribution from none other than Fenriz (DARKTHRONE), who wrote the lyrics for the song Let Me Be The Salt In Your Wound.

Shortly after, the group recorded their third album Divine-X (2002) at the Excess Studios in Rotterdam (EPICA, AFTER FOREVER, SINISTER). This record demonstrated the ability of the band to mix gloomy and violent atmospheres and received extensive coverage from the international metal press at the time.

Returning to the Netherlands to record the fourth album Era-Decay(2004), two new members joined the ranks of SETH: vocalist Black Messiah and guitarist Cyriex. Afterwards, the band was invited to play at the prestigious Inferno festival in Norway in 2005.

A long hiatus followed, until the band returned in 2011 to play an exclusive show in Germany with the German cult act BETHLEHEM. The band re-joined the ranks of Season of Mist, eventually releasing The Howling Spirit (2013) and embarking on a European tour with PESTILENCE. Several appearances at major festivals followed, including Hellfest and Graspop Metal Meeting, concluded by a Canadian headliner tour with new vocalist Saint Vincent (BLACKLODGE).

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Les Blessures de L’Ame in 2018, SETH exclusively performed the entire album at festivals in Switzerland, Canada (Messe de Morts) and Belgium (Thronefest). The French label Les Acteurs de l’Ombre productions released a live recording of these shows, called 20 ans de Blasphème. The band’s new line-up features members of LOUDBLAST, ARKHON INFAUSTUS and MELTED SPACE.

In the twilight year of 2021, within Paris' shadow-ridden crypt, Studio Sainte Marthe, an album was birthed from SETH's tumultuous revelation, christened, La Morsure du Christ. Earning plaudits of wonder, it was no mere collection of hymns, but a solitary harbinger of deconstruction, a cataclysm of unseen proportions. Inspiration seeped from Notre-Dame de Paris—her skeletal frame ablaze in a 2019's firestorm—an emblem of decaying faith for a godforsaken era. As heavy as the iron heart of a guillotine, La Morsure du Christechoed through the chambers of 2021, reigning supreme in a multitude of international & French metal charts, as well as its inclusion on premier streaming platform playlists. Bold symphonies interwoven with razor-sharp lyricism and a sophisticated conceptual resonance that dared to envision black metal through a revolutionary lens.

Rooted deeply in the soil that once drank deeply of royal and commoner blood alike during the tumultuous fervour of the French Revolution, SETH presents their latest opus - a black metal gospel according to the damned and the outcast. An intricate tapestry of shadows and defiance emerges from the darkness of history's recesses, swirling with the mists of apocalyptic visions and the ashes of fallen angels. La France des Maudits is a declaration of war, a call to arms for the souls still smouldering beneath the veneer of a world too long gripped in the cold hands of a moribund orthodoxy.

With the fractured bones of dead gods beneath their boots, SETHvoyages through the forbidden and the occult, tracing the lines of ancient prophecies and the decadent whispers of La Grande Catin Écarlate, the scarlet woman of the apocalypse. Their songs, from Paris des Maléfices to Insurrection, resonate with the echoes of a Paris besieged not by armies, but by souls clamouring for liberation - a city where each stone tells a tale of defiance, where every shadow harbours the spirit of revolt.

Lyrically, La France des Maudits is dripping with the wine of condemned men and the blood of saints, narrating the epic saga of rebellion from the ashes of a fallen Notre-Dame. This is not the Paris of light, but of enlightening darkness, where the façades of grandeur crumble to reveal the raw flesh of true humanity, writhing in its eternal struggle against divine oppression. Here, in the very heart of darkness, SETH finds its muse among the cacophony of broken chains and shattered dogmas.

Prepare to march beneath the banner unfurled bySETH, in the grand tradition of those unyielding souls who once stormed the Bastille and dared to dream of a world remade.La France des Mauditsbeckons - not to the gallows, but to glory.

Necrofier Announce Custom Effect Pedal

One of the ways Necrofier are making a mark on American black metal is their guitar tone. After all, the band do hail from Houston, Texas, where the unforgiving heat causes their tremolo picking to burn with more fire than other keepers of the black flame.

Now, axe men can conjure the wickedly distorted riffs and eerie, melodic dissonance that Necrofier harnessed on their most recent album, Burning Shadows in the Southern Night. Idiot Box Effects has blessed the band with their very own custom guitar pedal.

"The new Echo Drive is a collaboration between me and the KILLER black metal band Necrofier", says Atarimatt, who's been making effects and noiseboxes full time under the name IdiotBox since 2011. "Plug this sucker in and bring on TOTAL SOUTHERN DARKNESS!!!"

The Necrofier Echo drive is a tube screamer-style overdrive pedal. It runs into two separate echo circuits. The left switch is for echoes, while the right switch does overdrive. Each knob is named after a different raw ingredient in the band's evil alchemy: Reflection (echo 1), Chaos (echo 2), Alchemy (echo signal mix), Flame (overdrive volume), Strike (overdrive intensity) and Darkness (tone).

"We are blessed to announce this unholy alliance with Idiot Box effects", says Necrofier frontman Christian "Bakka" Larson. "The grit of the overdrive and the space of the echo helps create a dark and menacing effect".

A limited run of first-edition, autographed Necrofier Echo Drive pedals are available on Bandcamp while supplies last. The pedal can also be purchased through the IdiotBox Effects webstore.

Necrofier burned hot and fast on an especially Satanic 20th edition of the Decibel Magazine Tour. This summer, the band are pouring more fuel on their fire when they join the legendary Obituary for two swampy shows in Dallas and Baton Rouge.

"It's an honor to play a couple shows with these legends", Bakka says. "Surely, everyone will be chopped in half!"

Necrofier 2024 US Dates Supporting Obituary
May 31 - Dallas, TX @ Trees [TICKETS]
June 1 - Baton Rouge, LA @ Chelsea's Live [TICKETS]

Necrofier are also bringing total southern darkness to this summer's festival circuit. Before they turn crowds inside out with Obituary, they'll raise hell at Milwaukee Metal Fest with fellow SOM American black metal co-conspirators Profanatica. Come September, as temperatures start to drop, they'll cast their all-seeing shadow over Full Terror Assault.

Deep within the scorching cauldron of Texas, the alchemists of Necrofier have brewed another potent dose of American black metal with their sophomore full-length, ‘Burning Shadows in the Southern Night.’ The Houston four-piece honors the time-tested virtues of traditional black and heavy metal, even taking an organic sonic approach, tapping seven-time Grammy-nominated producer and engineer Joel Hamilton (Unsane, Tom Waits, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, etc.) to lend his magic touch for a natural sound.

“The goal going into the new record was to start setting ourselves apart from our contemporaries,” explains Necrofier drummer Dobber Beverly. “One of those ways was changing what the record sounded like. Moving away from the clinical and sterile nature that most productions suffer from and back into a real room with real instruments and performances. Our friend and esteemed producer/engineer Joel Hamilton had expressed interest in venturing back into the metal world and offered to make the record with us at his facility, Studio G Brooklyn. The results will speak for themselves hopefully, as this record breathes and spits fire wherever it’s played.”

“Dobber and Joel have become good friends since they recorded the last Oceans of Slumber album with him, adds Necrofier guitarist and vocalist Bakka. "After that, Joel wanted to record something heavy, so we made the trip to New York City to record in his legendary studio. It was an amazing experience in a great studio; besides having all the gear, he also created an environment where we challenged ourselves and brought everything up to the next level.”

‘Burning Shadows in the Southern Night’ doesn’t just simply pick off where Necrofier’s debut album left off, but displays a conscientious effort to double down on the elements that made ‘Prophecies of Eternal Darkness’ successful. The solos are more plentiful and intricate, the hooks are more anthemic, and the overall musicianship is bolder and more daring. Speaking of the band’s evolution, Bakka explains, “I think this collection of songs represents us very well. We have grown together as a band and it shows in the new songs. Also, for this record we flew to NYC and recorded all day long for 10 days straight. I love recording this way because it captures a certain magic. The whole band is immersed in the process and it's all we would think, do, live and breathe during the process.”

Another core facet of Necrofier’s allure is being a black metal band from Texas. “Where you live always helps shape someone,” says Bakka. “It helps shape our style and tone in ways, it’s hot most of the year, so as we burn, it gives us warmer tones and more of a heavy metal influence than when compared to our brothers from the North."

To that avail, Necrofier isn’t your typical black metal band, and so this isn’t your typical black metal record as there’s a healthy amount of traditional metal influences, particularly within the guitar work. While conceptually, the band doesn’t heavily rely on Satanic themes, exploring deeper human philosophies and the occult like burning for your dreams or spiraling out on a psychedelic trip and exploring the beyond. “While there isn’t overt satanic worship in the lyrics, I would still say that he is a friend of ours,” Bakka cheekily says. “There are Occult themes on this record, but at the same time, it does take a philosophical approach.”

Further illustrating the influence of their environment, Necrofier also heavily explores one of Southern America’s most fabled myths. “The new record touches on selling your soul at the crossroads,” adds Bakka. “I like to take a different approach and touch on the elements of the esoteric world and dive into the forbidden or hidden that surrounds us in our lives every day.”

As the Texan black metal outlaws saddle up for record two, they are leading the charge as one of the contemporary purveyors of black metal revivalism. ‘Burning Shadows in the Southern Night’ is certain to elicit a sense of nostalgia for those who dare to lay ears on this vicious new offering.

Edinburgh's Boulder Fields presents 'Measures' from debut album, blurring boundaries between Indie Rock, Scottish Folk & Americana

“Combines Scottish folk with Americana and indie, creating an engaging, stirring musical blend… gorgeous, timeless music that comes highly recommended” ~ Americana UK

"Upbeat and infectious with a feel-good vibe. A catchy melody, constructed at the crossroads of folk, rock and pop, this is an earworm to leave you grinning as you grab a pint or the hand of your partner for a hearty dance" ~ The Spill Magazine

Edinburgh-based troubadour Boulder Fields presents his new folktastic single 'Measures', a catchy and uptempo taste of his debut album ‘With All The Other Ghosts’, released via Scottish indie imprint Let There Be Numbers.

“We measure the distance, we measure how far still to go…”

Boulder Fields revolves around Scottish singer-songwriter Cam Fraser, formerly of Borrowed Books and 80s punk legends The Cateran, who joined Nirvana on the 1989 UK tour that broke the band, as well as touring or sharing the stage with The Proclaimers, Tad and Grant Hart (Husker Du),

This long-play record features eleven thoughtful tracks with beautiful, stripped-down arrangements. Mainly played on acoustic instruments, these songs are enveloped with sonorous harmonies and delivered with fierce intensity, recalling these artists' collective punk history.

"Is it too simplistic to say that sometimes it’s hard to keep going? Then sometimes, at least for some, it just gets too hard. Resilience is all very well, but the unexpected shitstorm can overwhelm even the strongest, and then it’s all too easy to sink below," says Cam Fraser about the deeper meaning of 'Measures'.

“Boulder Fields had already played a few shows prior to heading into the studio. There was something magical happening with just these acoustic instruments and the vocals, and it felt like this was what we should try to capture on the album. Listening to it now, I think that’s pretty much what we pulled off. It sounds just like when we play together; nothing fake or contrived or prettied up with technology… just us. I’m proud of this collection of songs and I’m proud of how we play them together.”

On ‘With All The Other Ghosts’, Cam (vocals, guitar) forms the core three-piece with his long-time collaborator Aly Barr (bass, vocals) and the talented Suzy Cargill (drums, vocals). Since their debut performance as a collective at 2022's Belladrum Festival, they have played several very well-received shows around Edinburgh, some as a three-piece and some with the extended line-up.

This album also features Jamie Watson, a hugely respected figure in the Scottish music scene. Perhaps best known as a producer for the likes of Snow Patrol and The Vaselines, or former owner of Chamber Studio, Watson was also a member of such influential Scottish bands as The Monos, The Solos and The Persian Rugs. Jamie and Cam first worked together back in the 1980s, when Cam’s band rehearsed and recorded at Jamie’s studio. On acoustic guitar for several tracks, he contributes some impressive finger-style guitar, in addition to tapping his vast experience in helping create the final mix.

Fraser adds, "The album owes a lot to the very lovely guy who sat behind the mixing desk, Richie Werner at B&B Studios. As well as fretting about all the technical stuff and making sure he got the best possible sound out of all the instruments, Richie also fired up his studio’s old Hammond organ and played on a couple of songs."

As of April 16, 'Measures' will be available from fine digital outlets, including Apple Music and Bandcamp. The album 'All the Other Ghosts' will be released on June 14 and is already available for pre-order.
