SOILWORK Release Video For New Single 'Spirit Of No Return'

Swedish melodic death metal legends SOILWORK are back with a brandnew single, 'Spirit of No Return,' along with a powerful and visually striking music video. The track marks a significant milestone in the band’s evolution, with longtime live guitarist Simon Johansson recently officially joining the ranks of the band.

'Spirit of No Return' showcases SOILWORK’s signature blend of frenzied intensity, soaring melodies, epic arrangements, and a touch of progressive complexity - traits that have cemented their reputation over the last decades. Johansson’s contribution to the song’s writing channels the band's essence while bringing fresh energy to their unmistakable sound.

The video is equally captivating, featuring a stunning sequence where the iconic SOILWORKsymbol is reforged, representing the band’s resurgence and renewed strength. This visual narrative perfectly complements the song’s theme of perseverance and transformation.

Frontman Björn “Speed” Strid comments on the song: 'Spirit Of No Return' is a fierce reminder of the past, but also an introduction of the new SOILWORK era, where we’ve taken the thrashier early days and dressed it in a new heavier suit. Lyrics are dealing with the urge of belonging and fitting in - and how it in the end can be disastrous as you abandon your true self.”

SOILWORK Welcomes Simon Johansson As New Permanent Member

Just having finished the first leg of their European tour with their labelmates KATAKLYSM, Swedish melodic death metal veterans SOILWORK are about to embark on the second half of the tour with exciting news.

The band welcomes Simon Johansson to their ranks, completing the line-up again. Simon Johansson will step in as SOILWORK's new guitar player.

SOILWORK states:
"We are excited to finally welcome Simon Johansson to the Soilwork family as a permanent member. Simon has been with us on a session basis since 2019 and not only has he proven himself to be a solid guitar player, but also a humble human being and a true gentleman in some of the most challenging years of the band’s history. We love you and we are grateful that you are part of our band".

Simon adds:
”I’m super stoked and very humbled to be the new guitarist in Soilwork. I have been a fan of the band since way back and now to be a part of the Soilwork legacy is a huge honor.
We first started to work together in 2019 when I joined as their session touring guitarist and during this time my admiration for the band has just grown. Now happy and proud to be joining my brothers as a full-time member and I’m thrilled to be a part of the next chapter of Soilwork”.

For the second leg of the co-headline tour of KATAKLYM and SOILWORK, the bands wll be joined by their labelmates HORIZON IGNITED. The Finnish melodic death metal force released their second album Towards The Dying Lands last summer via NUCLEAR BLAST, globally lauded by critics and fans. The band will replace WILDERUN who unfortunately have to drop out of the tour due to family health matters taking precedence. The tour will start out from Denmark, adding another 28 cities to their record and finish their extensiv tour in the Netherlands.

About Soilwork:
SOILWORK's high-class creative consistency, which they have been delivering solidly throughout their career, is the virtue that probably best defines them. Founded at the end of 1995, SOILWORK released their debut album Steelbath Suicide in 1998, garnering a great early response. By 2001 SOILWORK had joined Nuclear Blast, and by 2003 they already had five records under their belt.

Continuing their tradition of high-quality musical output, 2022 saw their twelfth studio album ‘Övergivenheten’, which represents the band in their growth and their current phase of life - marked by a time that probably no one on this planet will forget so quickly.

Words are not enough to express our feelings today, the whole Nuclear Blast family mourns the death of David Andersson, guitarist of SOILWORK and THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends - we will remember David as one of the most creative and passionate artists of our time, his memory will forever be cherished.

SOILWORK have issued the following statement:

"We are deeply saddened today, as we bring the terrible news of David Andersson's passing. He was one of a kind and a brilliant man in so many ways. He was our guitarist for more than 10 years and had a big impact on Soilwork's musical journey forward. Sadly alcohol and mental illness took you away from us. We will miss him dearly and will continue to carry the musical legacy that he was a part of. Our deepest condolences goes out to his family. Forever grateful for the time we spent with you and all the good laughs. Thank you Dr. Dave. See you on the other side.

We encourage everyone to respect the privacy of David's family and friends in these tragic times."

Nuclear Blast states:

"When we heard about the passing of David Andersson, we were in total disbelief. We sat there in shock and simply couldn’t believe it. But unfortunately, the news was true. The news has made us and countless people around the world incredibly sad. David Andersson passed away far too young!

David was a very cool guy, friendly, funny, easy to work with and always full of music. We wish his bandmates in Soilwork and The Night Flight Orchestra, and his family our sincere condolences in these hard times.

David Andersson will always be remembered as a member of the Nuclear Family, and his music will live on forever among countless fans worldwide.

Thank you for the music and we hope you have found the peace you were looking for. Rest in Power David!"

David Andersson has died at 47 years old. He played in SOILWORK between 2012 and 2022 and was one of the driving forces behind THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA since 2007. His legendary talent, outstanding character and passion for all his projects will truly be missed.

SOILWORK Release Second Single "Nous Sommes La Guerre" From Upcoming Album "Övergivenheten"

SOILWORK continue to please their fans by releasing the second single of the upcoming album Övergivenheten. After delivering the title track of their new longplayer already some weeks ago, the Swedes release the next single called 'Nous Sommes La Guerre'. This track represents the next massive piece of their highly anticipated album which is due on August 19th.

SOILWORK about the new single:
"‘Nous Sommes la Guerre’ evolved around a “fight or flight” theme. The song is about internal struggles and confronting your own worst sides. It’s a cry for help in defeating the darkness inside of you and move towards a brighter path."

The extraordinary artwork for the new single is created by Argavilda who has a very own view on the band's latest output. His thoughts about 'Nous Sommes La Guerre' and his interpretation of it:

"The idea is to peel the skin of the narrator to reveal the individual layers and see what makes the individual. All the scarred and murky sides being laid bare the deeper you dig. Crying golden blood because there are no more tears. It is a person soul searching to find answers and exposing themselves to ask for help. My interpretation of the lyrics is intricately connected to being lost and realizing, that you must build yourself up anew and that you cannot do it alone”.

About
SOILWORK's steady consistency in creativity, which they have been delivering for years and also inspiring their fans with, is probably the most appropriate virtue that describes the band. Founded at the end of 1995, SOILWORK released their debut album Steelbath Suicide in 1998, which already received a good response. Between their debut album and album number five there were only five years, which means that by 2005 the band already had a lot of material out and since the switch to Nuclear Blast in 2001 at the latest, they had made the breakthrough. After a three-year album break, also caused by pandemic and difficult working conditions, SOILWORK are standing now in the starting blocks with their twelfth album Övergivenheten which is set to release in August 2022.

Additionally, the band announced that Rasmus Ehrborn has officially joined as new permanent bass player in the beginning of this year, which makes the SOILWORK line-up complete and ready again to capture the stages around the world!
