Mavis Drop New Single "Sentinel Hill"

MAVIS unleash their most electrifying track to date with "Sentinel Hill," a high-energy, bouncy metalcore anthem packed with earth-shaking breakdowns, hauntingly catchy melodies, and a still-urgent message — maybe now more than ever.

Told through the eyes of a supernatural creature like their last single "DNA," the song explores the relentless clash between humankind and nature, as ancient titans are called upon to restore balance before it's too late.

With towering riffs, explosive drums, and soaring hooks, "Sentinel Hill" is a call to arms for a world on the brink. The song's almost Dungeons & Dragons-inspired lead melody in the chorus adds an epic, mystical quality, drawing the listener deeper into its apocalyptic tale — a refreshing and unique twist for metalcore.

Directed by Chris Hesse (Strangeworks), the video brings the song's themes to life, shifting between majestic nature and cold industrial landscapes — a stark visual reflection of the battle between life and destruction.

Produced by Manuel Renner at Überlärm Studios, "Sentinel Hill" pushes MAVIS' sound further than ever, merging razor-sharp aggression with anthemic, haunting beauty.

Following last year's debut album, Grief Is No Ally, "DNA" kicks off a bold new era for the band — one marked by relentless growth, packed shows across Germany, and standout performances at top festivals like Summer Breeze Open Air. This new release taps into the band's evolving style and success as they continue to make waves in Germany's metal scene, capturing a darker, more profound essence that reflects their journey and transformation.

With "DNA," frontman Phil Donay explores new vocal territory, incorporating heavier, lower screams that enhance the song's raw emotion. His lyrics tell the story of a mystical entity that learns to overcome its fears through a transformative journey — embracing darkness and reshaping itself, ultimately embodying confidence and newfound power.

Mavis Announce Debut Album "Grief Is No Ally" + Share "Calypso" Video

German band MAVIS, featuring vocalist Phil Donay, guitarist Manu Weller, bass player Mo Amrein, and drummer Jakob Schulz-Klein, are proud to announce their debut full-length record Grief Is No Ally, due for release on December 15, via Arising Empire!

The newest track "Calypso" heralds the official pre-orders and showcases their exceptional talent in composing and narrative lyricism. The audience finds itself entranced by the fusion of intense energy and hypnotic tunes, culminating in an irresistible hook. "Calypso" marks the band's first creative endeavor since the exit of founding member and chief songwriter Robin Dachtler, offering a surreal odyssey that navigates the often essential transformations life imposes. As the piece evolved, it increasingly symbolized the band's own brush with disbandment.

"It felt as though MAVIS was doomed just as it began to flourish. Yet, we endured those challenging times, and akin to the song, we were drawn to a faint yet alluring glimmer of hope that pierced through the gloom. Clinging to that light, we now find ourselves more united and resilient than before," reflects vocalist Phil Donay.

With its compelling narrative and emotive depth, "Calypso" emerges as a powerful anthem sure to make an enduring impact.

The title of the record stands for 11 stories of different forms of grieving, ranging from it’s dark and negative sides to very positives and healthy aspects of embracing grief to let go. MAVIS planned the release of a full length in 2020 but were already struck with multiple setbacks in their young history. Not only the beginning of the pandemic hit them right at the start but lineup changes because of illness, mental issues or members growing apart from making music entirely. Just as they booked live shows again roughly 1.5 years ago, their bad luck peaked in a studio fire in which they lost instruments, equipment, and all merchandise. Right around that time, the two remaining members of MAVIS found new drive as they could complete the line up once again. Since then, the musicians worked tirelessly on putting all their experiences into the songs that now make this jewel of a debut record. They went into the studio with a "nothing is holy" attitude to produce the best music they can and their efforts paid off as finally everyone can hear.

Mavis Share "Furry Tongue" Video — WATCH

German band MAVIS, featuring vocalist Phil Donay, guitarist Manu Weller, bass player Mo Amrein, and drummer Jakob Schulz-Klein, dropped the video for new single "Furry Tongue," out now via Arising Empire.

This latest masterpiece is a harmonious chaos, elegantly flitting between time signatures while maintaining a fluid, danceable rhythm.

"The complexity of 'Furry Tongue' didn't compromise its groove," says singer Phil Donay. "Achieving a song you can dance to was a pinnacle for us."

The song dances on the edge of intuition and overanalysis, exploring the tenuous balance that exists between the two and the exploitation that can arise from either extreme. Donay equates this delicate balancing act to the uncomfortable yet familiar sensation of a furry tongue.

Earlier this year, the band debuted its first single "Tortured Land." Watch the video

If "Tortured Land" was an introduction to Mavis' dynamism, "Furry Tongue" solidifies their position as forerunners in innovative metalcore.
The visual component, a collaboration with Danny Jakov (deadapefilms) oscillates between cerebral choreography and instinctive movement.

For the recording, mixing, and mastering of their new tracks, MAVIS collaborated with Manuel Renner of Überlärm Studios, a professional gaining recognition for his collaborations with bands such as Senna, CONSVMER, Vicious Rain, and The Butcher Sisters, among others.  "Tortured Land" features a visually compelling music video, filmed in collaboration with Danny Jakov of deadapefilms, encapsulating MAVIS' intensely dynamic performance style. The narrative portrays the challenge of confronting inner demons and anxieties, illustrating how facing them alone can exacerbate the issues, causing them to expand like a delicate glass sphere until it shatters, wreaking havoc on everything in its path.
