Rockol Musicbiz Publishes Exclusive Interview with Frontiers Records Founder SERAFINO PERUGINO

Frontiers Records, the iconic Naples-based independent label, celebrates its 30th anniversary by looking ahead - launching new sub-labels, signing legendary artists, and preparing a landmark celebration in 2026.

In an exclusive interview with Rockol MusicBiz, founder and CEO Serafino Perugino shares the spirit that shaped the label and outlines an ambitious path forward.

“It’s my life. A passion born in 1996 from a vision. Thirty years later, I can say that it was a winning bet.”

Recent years have seen the creation of BLKIIBLK and FLG, two sub-labels aimed at expanding Frontiers’ reach into new rock and metal frontiers. While Frontiers Music Srlremains the beating heart of classic and mainstream rock, the two new labels allow the company to explore new musical scenes and engage an even broader audience.

“Following the release of the new Skunk Anansie album at the end of May, we’ll release a new Megadeth record between the end of this year and early 2026. Also, under BLKIIBLK, a new Biohazard album is coming. And that’s just the beginning - we’re working to build a strong, competitive catalog alongside the main label.”

What hasn’t changed is the heart of the operation: a family-led business with global reach, built on passion and integrity.

“When you put passion first, people notice. I’m still here telling great stories -and I still want to tell many more.”

To mark the 30-year milestone, Frontiers is planning a major event in 2026, celebrating with the people who made it all possible.

“The idea is to organize a major event here in Naples, with our full team, artists, and stakeholders. Everyone who helped us reach this milestone, built with sacrifices but also huge satisfaction. In this regard, special thanks go to The Orchard, our physical and digital distribution partner, who has always believed in us. It will be a celebration of a new, great beginning…”

Black Sabbath members Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward talk exclusively to Rock Candy Mag for a 50th anniversary celebration of the ‘Sabotage’ album.

Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward have opened up to Rock Candy for the magazine’s latest expansive cover story marking 50 years since the release of the band’s seminal sixth studio album,‘Sabotage’, in 1975.

The three musicians recall the stresses and strains of going though litigation with their former manager, while at the same time trying to create new music that was designed to push the boundaries of what the Birmingham group had previously deemed possible.

“We were obviously immensely p*ssed off because we had hardly anything to show for five years of constantly touring, writing, and recording,” Butler explained to Rock Candy Mag editor Howard Johnson. “It was difficult dividing time between creating music and time spent in lawyers’ offices, with QCs, and in law courts. But with our backs against the wall I think some of the songs on ‘Sabotage’ were the angriest that we’d ever written.”

“It wasn’t easy, because as it turned out the court case happened smack bang in the middle of recording ‘Sabotage’,” says Iommi. “One minute you’d be worrying about whether a riff was right for a song, the next you’d be sat in court.”

Yet despite such immense outside stresses, Sabbath were absolutely determined to forge ahead on their musical journey.

“We were in an experimental phase at the time,” says Butler.“We’d introduced different instruments on the [previous] ‘Sabbath Bloody Sabbath’ album, and once again were looking for new directions. Synths were relatively new at that time, so we had a go at introducing them on some songs. It was fun playing around.”

With their backs against the wall, Sabbath dug deep to produce some of the most exciting rock music of the ’70s – or any other decade.

“‘Hole In The Sky’ and ‘Symptom Of The Universe’ are two of my all-time favourite Black Sabbath songs,” confirms Geezer. “I still love playing them, and they really come alive when we perform them live.”

“I was really, really happy with the writing,” says Bill Ward. “I think we were expanding, allowing ourselves to expand. We’d come a really long way from the song ‘Black Sabbath’, as great as that song is. I thought the richness of what we were doing on ‘Sabotage’ was brilliant.”

You can read the exclusive Black Sabbath ‘Sabotage’ story in issue 49 of Rock Candy Mag, together with in-depth stories and interviews with Billy Squier, Angel, Machine Head, Don Airey, L.A. Guns, Jethro Tull, and more. For more details visit www.rockcandymag.com.

GEEZER BUTLER TO BE INTERVIEWED BY BRIAN POSEHN AT UPCOMING "FILLING THE VOID" EVENT

One of the most revealing metal autobiographies of recent times was certainly Geezer Butler's popular 'Into the Void.' And many Colorado-based rockers are sure to flock to the Gothic Theatre on May 22, 2024 in Englewood, for a night of discussion with Black Sabbath's legendary bassist, Geezer Butler, who will be joined by comedian Brian Posehn to discuss his book, life, and career – for an event being billed as 'Filling the Void.'

In addition to the conversation between Brian and Geezer, Geezer will also be taking part in a Q&A with the audience and also signing attendees' books, so feel free to bring your copy along. Tickets can be purchased for the event starting April 8th, via this link:

Concerning 'Into the Void,' countless esteemed publications praised it, including Mojo hailing it as "An epic odyssey of one of rock's unlikeliest stars," the Daily Express calling it "A gritty autobiography," and the Financial Times adding it is "An entertaining memoir about decibels and debauchery on the road with Sabbath." The book also came in at #2 on the London Times' best seller list.

Geezer Butler served as Black Sabbath's bassist for the majority of the years since their 1968 inception in Birmingham, England, as well as serving as the band's chief lyricist – which in turn, played a major role in the creation of heavy metal. Additionally, his unmistakable bass playing served as an influence on such subsequent renowned four-string players as Metallica's Cliff Burton, Pantera's Rex Brown, and Type O Negative's Peter Steele, among others.

As a writer/actor/stand-up comic, Brian Posehn has starred in multiple stand-up specials, and has appeared on the popular Disney Plus show The Mandalorian, the acclaimed Netflix show Lady Dynamite, FX’s You’re The Worst and in his recurring roles on The Big Bang Theory and New Girl. He was one of the stars of Comedy Central's popular show, The Sarah Silverman Program. He has also appeared on such seminal sitcoms as Seinfeld, NewsRadio, Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends, The Neighborhood and a recurring role on Just Shoot Me.

And Geezer is very much looking forward to the event. “I can’t wait to see how the evening unfolds, as Brian is both incredibly funny and a super-passionate rock fan! It's a rare opportunity for us to come face to face with fans and answer some of their burning questions!”

And on May 22, 2024 at the Gothic Theatre, the worlds of comedy and metal will collide in what will most certainly be an unforgettable night of laughs and storytelling, with 'Filling the Void.'
