Tulsa's beloved emo outfit, CLIFFDIVER, have today announced that the band will be embarking on an indefinite hiatus. Known for their emotionally raw, genre-fluid blend of emo, ska, and indie rock, CLIFFDIVER will also mark the occasion with two final shows in July, tickets available now at the links below. These final shows serve as a fitting farewell from a band to celebrate everything they've built thus far, with the community who that have been with them every step of the way.
Since forming in 2018, CLIFFDIVER have built a devoted following on the strength of their electrifying live show and a discography that includes 2 EPs - "Small Hours" and "At Your Own Risk" - and 2 records - "Exercise Your Demons" and "birdwatching". Along the way, the band shared stages with The Wonder Years, blink 182, Prince Daddy & The Hyena, amongst many others to cement their place in the fabric of the the emo underground.
Notably, the band's resolve was tested in 2023 when a freak highway accident left bassist Tyler Rogers fighting for his life. In a moment that shook the band to its core, it also seemed to strengthen their determination to keep going and even inspired their latest hit record, "birdwatching". That same spirit has defined CLIFFDIVER since their inception and will carry through to their final two shows in July.
With heavy hearts and immense gratitude for everyone who made this journey possible, Eliot Cooper, Joey Duffy, Matt Ehler, Tyler Rogers, and Bri Wright of CLIFFDIVER share:
"After 8 good years, we’ve agreed as a band to hit the pause button on Cliffdiver.
This wasn’t a decision we made easily — for months we’ve been trying to think of ways to continue the band in a different capacity, but it just didn’t make sense. We were built from day one to be a touring band, obsessed with being road dogs and playing as many shows as possible. Unfortunately, mostly due to health restrictions and personal obligations, we’re just not built that way anymore. We’ve always been 100% or nothing, and it didn’t feel right to just “halfway” be a band and not put our full effort into everything Cliffdiver does.
We’re eternally grateful for every opportunity we’ve had and realize how unlikely it is that a band from Oklahoma experiences what we were fortunate enough to. We got to share the stage and tour alongside the people who inspired us to play music, play some of the biggest punk rock festivals in the world, work with one-of-a-kind producers and recording studios, release two albums we’re so proud of with a legendary record label, witness many of our peers go from house shows to world tours, and most importantly develop lasting relationships with fans of our music, other bands and artists, and so many incredible people working in the industry.
We have a handful of new songs that we’ll be releasing this summer, along with two final shows — one in OKC and one in Tulsa. We’re not entirely sure if this is goodbye, see you later, or what exactly, but it’s important to us that we let y’all know how thankful we are for everyone who stuck with us and helped create such an insanely positive community around our music. It changed our lives for the better.
Cliffy"
This isn't quite the last time you'll hear from CLIFFDIVER, as we promise that the band still have a few more tricks up their sleeves. Stay tuned for more news from CLIFFDIVER very soon.
