Hard Rock Band Bastion Rose Releases Psychological New Single "I"

BLOOMINGTON, IN –Continuing their ascent into the vanguard of modern heavy music, cinematic hard rock outfit Bastion Rose has announced the release of their introspective single "I." The track serves as the next single from the band’s third chapter, Blue Rising.

Following their recent singles, "Dust" and "Bones," "I" turns the lens inward. The track explores the violent necessity of personal evolution. Driven by a sophisticated rhythmic pulse and soaring, melodic hooks, the song captures the moment a "calloused" spirit finally decides to break.

“The song is a dialogue with the parts of ourselves that prefer to stay as stone because change is terrifying,” says frontman Austin Frink. “We often stay the same because it’s safe, but 'I' is about that breaking point—the moment you realize you have to liquefy your old self to break through the stone and finally grow. It’s about moving beyond the 'commotion inside' to become something more.”

Blue Rising represents a bold new evolution for the band as Bastion Rose continues to build on the world-class sonic architecture established in their previous works. The band’s debut EP, Fade To Blue, and their powerhouse full-length, Traces of Gold, were both produced by three-time Grammy-winner David Bottrill (Tool, Muse, Rush). That collaboration set a high bar for the band’s technical, progressive arrangements and raw, alternative metal energy—a standard that remains the heartbeat of their new material.

The release of "I" finds Bastion Rose at an all-time high, with over 2 million streams across their catalog and a global YouTube community of 60,000 subscribers. The band is currently striking while the iron is hot, promising a steady stream of music for their rapidly expanding fanbase.

“We have so much music ready to share with the world right now,” Frink adds. “Blue Rising is just the next chapter of a very prolific phase for Bastion Rose. We aren't interested in slowing down.”

"I" is available on all major streaming platforms as of March 27, 2026.

Based in Bloomington, Indiana, Bastion Rose has emerged as a high-caliber hard rock project born from a pursuit of light within the darkness. Their sound is a sophisticated collision of post-grunge grit and alternative metal intensity, defined by potent, intelligent guitar work, ethereal soundscapes, monumental riffs, and powerful, impassioned vocals and lyrics. It is a sonic identity that caught the attention of three-time Grammy Award-winning producer David Bottrill. Known for his work with legendary visionaries like Tool, Godsmack, Muse, Peter Gabriel, and Rush, Bottrill describes Bastion Rose as a "new embodiment of classic heavy rock... the sounds, the tones, everything. They are reverential to the style of music from the past, bringing it into the modern world."

Bottrill’s involvement provided the blueprint for Bastion Rose’s world-class production standards. From the debut EP Fade To Blue to the full-length powerhouse Traces of Gold, the collaboration resulted in a sound that is both polished and visceral—music that balances the technical, rhythmic intelligence of Tool with the riff-centric, soaring melodic energy of Audioslave. This cinematic depth is not a studio trick; it is a reflection of a journey through hardship. The creative mission is inextricably linked to the personal story of Austin Frink, who navigated a period of staggering loss, including the sudden deaths of both parents and a cancer diagnosis that threatened to permanently silence his singing voice. Frink turned his pain and survival into a universal message. His lyrics explore the heavy themes of existence, hope, and the fleeting nature of life, transforming personal tragedy into a rallying cry for resilience.

The world has taken notice of this ascent. In less than a year, Bastion Rose has experienced a meteoric rise, with a catalog surpassing 1.5 million streams and a global community of 60,000 YouTube subscribers and 36,000 social followers standing behind them. With critical acclaim from industry pillars like SPIN Magazine, Metal Hammer, and Classic Rock Magazine, Bastion Rose has scaled from a studio project into a market-ready force. Striking while the iron is hot, the band is currently unveiling their next prolific chapter: Blue Rising. Spearheaded by the haunting single, "Dust," the record is a philosophical exploration of transience. As Traces of Gold continues to dominate playlists, Blue Rising serves as a clear indicator of the band’s relentless creative pace. For those seeking music that is emotionally resonant and sonically massive, Bastion Rose is the essential melodic voice in the new era of heavy music.

London Metal Trio URNE Release Double A-Side Singles "Throes Of Grief" and Cover of Black Sabbath's "I"

Today, London metal trio URNE continue to re-define the world of epic arena metal and the sacred power of The Riff with brand new single, "Throes Of Grief" plus a spectacular cover of Black Sabbath’s "I".

Over the course of two studio albums plus a touring schedule taking in key festival appearances, including Download in the UK, URNE have shown that heavy music can also be heavy with atmosphere and intent.

With the new singles "I" / "Throes Of Grief", their first release since moving from Candlelight to Spinefarm, the group give a nod to the past whilst keeping eyes set on the future; "Throes Of Grief" is a new original, a tightly-wound three and a half minutes of incessant guitar and vocal fire-power, featuring a signature guest solo from Avatar guitarist Tim Öhrström, while "I"sees the band putting their own weighty stamp on Dio-era Sabbath.

Largely, it’s the Ozzy-era of Sabbath that gets the cover treatment, but URNE frontman Joe Nally (the band is completed by Angus Neyra on guitar and James Cook on drums) has long held a love for the later Dio period and "I" in particular.

Nally explains:

’I’ is a song I’ve been wanting to cover for about 15 years; the song is one of Sabbath's heaviest - lyrically and vocally, it’s Dio at his most evil and wicked. No one is really in the same league as Dio vocally so I had to approach it in a different way. It was a challenge but one that really changed the game for me vocally. We are approaching 15 years since Ronnie James Dio passed but he certainly isn’t forgotten. This is our way of paying our respects and saying thank you for the music.”

On "Throes Of Grief", Nally adds:

“Around the time of writing this I was listening to 'Countdown to Extinction' by Megadeth, so of course I was inspired by Dave & co. and if you write fun metal, you want a killer solo to go with that and who better to ask, than our good friend Tim Öhrström from the mighty Avatar. Tim has such a cool and unique style, I knew I wanted him to play something on this. 'Throes' along with 'I', is us having fun but also paying our respects to those who paved the way for bands like ours.”

Together, these songs make it clear that a brand-new chapter in URNE history is ready to unfold.
