Iconic electronic duo DELERIUM and CLAN OF XYMOX release 'In The Deep' Remix feat. KANGA

Legendary Vancouver-based electronic duo Delerium and Dutch darkwave pioneers Clan of Xymox have combined their talents to deliver a stunning new version of 'In The Deep', a song lifted from Delerium's 2023 album 'Signs'. Featuring LA-based artist KANGA as vocalist and lyricist, this remix offers a fresh reinterpretation of this song with a darker bent.

Delerium was formed in 1987 by Bill Leeb and Rhys Fulber, who had made a name for themselves with the highly influential electronic-industrial group Front Line Assembly (Leeb was also an early member of Skinny Puppy). Originally intended as a side project for exploring dark ethereal ambient trance, voiceless soundscapes and electronic pop music, Delerium ultimately took on a long and beautiful life of its own.

As with 'Signs' and their 2016 album ‘Mythologie’, Delerium released this new single via iconic alternative music label Metropolis Records, which is home to Front Line Assembly and also just released Leeb's debut solo album 'Model Kollapse' (featuring appearances by Shannon Hemmett and Jason Corbett of post-punk outfit ACTORS, and long-term collaborator Mimi Page).

Upholding their penchant for ethereal, downtempo music, their exquisite 'Signs' album(recorded and mastered by Greg Reely) features stunning vocals by Mimi Page, Inna Walters, Phildel and Emily Haines (of Metric). "A while back - like months ago - we had some remixes done from our latest Delerium album. All of the remixes were released except this one by Clan of Xymox," says Bill Leeb.

‘In The Deep’ was an ideal choice for working with Clan of Xymox - “a ballad about loss and the engulfing waters of deep mourning” (Post-Punk.com). The accompanying video, created by Tim Hill, adds dream-like to the aquatic theme explored in the clip for the original version, along with hallucinogenic visuals that incorporate paintings by long-term Delerium artwork designer Carylann Loepkky and imagery by Matt Lombard.

"This was the first time we worked with KANGA. who wrote the lyrics and sang this song. This is a very personal outlook and moving performance from KANGA, yet hopeful in the end. This is also our first time working with Ronny Moorings aka Clan of Xymox. As luck wold have it, we are label mates on Metropolis Records, which helped immensely to get things rolling," says Bill Leeb.

"We were looking for a more ethereal darkwave sound so we approached them and really got the result we were looking for - to keep in mood with the song and its more complex somber aspect. Tim Hill provided the ethereal visionary video ambience, setting the right mood".

Since their 1994 album 'Semantic Spaces', Delerium has received two Juno awards and grown to massive fame through collaborations, involving vocals by Leigh Nash (Sixpence None the Richer), Lisa Gerrard (Dead Can Dance), Kirsty Hawkshaw (Opus III), Emily Haines (Metric), Jacqui Hunt (Single Gun Theory), Matthew Sweet and Kristy Thirsk (Rose Chronicles).

Their collaboration with Sarah McLachlan produced the worldwide hit 'Silence', which reached #1 in numerous countries and whose remixes are hailed among the greatest trance songs of all time (with the Tiësto remix having been voted the 12th-greatest dance track of all time by Mixmag readers).

'In The Deep (Clan of Xymox Remix)' is out now, available everywhere digitally, including Spotify, Apple Music and Bandcamp.
