France Invades New York City's Irving Plaza with Landmvrks and Novelists

Landmvrks frontman Florent stepped onto the stage to a boisterous roar from the eager crowd and immediately launched into a short, powerful intro with "Spectre." Almost instantly, the rest of the band joined him onstage for the hard-hitting track “Creature” from their newest album, The Darkest Place I’ve Ever Been. Throughout the night, they expertly mixed in heavier songs from their previous album Lost in Waves, including the crowd-favorite “Self-made Dark Hole.” The energy between the band and audience was electric, with everyone feeding off each other's intensity, creating an unforgettable night of music and connection. If you get the chance to catch this tour, don’t hesitate — it’s an absolute killer experience.

Novelists took to the stage, opening with “All for Nothing” from their latest album Coda. While vocalist Camille didn’t need any extra charm to win over the crowd, her New York Yankees beret was a stylish and memorable touch. Her powerful yet melodic vocals blended seamlessly with some impressive and intricate guitar work from Pierre. Their set maintained a constant, surfing dance flow that kept the audience hooked from start to finish.

Unfortunately, due to visa issues, the band Resolve was unable to join the American leg of the tour, leaving a gap in the lineup. However, the night was far from lacking in energy. Filling that spot, Atlanta’s Silly Goose opened the evening with an explosive set that captured the spirit of ’90s Nu Metal, but with a fresh twist. Their punk energy combined with rap and nu-metal influences had the crowd shouting and moving nonstop. Fan favorites like “Bad Behavior” and “Keys to the City” elevated the atmosphere, ensuring that the night was packed with high-octane performances. Everyone needs the chance to rock with the goose!

The Acacia Strain ignited the stage for an already electrified crowd, cranking the energy up five notches all the way to Mayhem. Opening with their explosive track “Human Disaster,” the mosh pit erupted with bodies flying in every direction—huge props to Irving Plaza security for maintaining safety while allowing the crowd to fully enjoy the chaos of the dance. Their set skillfully spanned almost all twelve of their studio albums, including the eagerly anticipated yet-to-be-released “You Are Safe From God Here,” from Rise Records. Throughout the night, it was clear how well these bands get along on tour, with members frequently sharing the stage—a testament to the camaraderie fueling their relentless momentum. It was clear Acacia Strain won’t slowing down anytime soon.

Representing Idaho, the hardcore punk band Ingrown offered a refreshing palate cleanse with their punk grooves and hardcore melodies, compelling the crowd to throw down with fierce enthusiasm. They paid a respectful tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath by incorporating a little of Cornucopia, while their latest album—a homage to their hometown, Idaho, released through Closed Casket Activities—is definitely a record to crank up loud.

Before taking the stage, No Cure amped the audience with a blast of Ozzy’s “Mr. Crowley” over the PA, then seamlessly transitioned into their powerful anthem “Hang Me From the Bible Belt,” from the recent I Hope I Die Here album on Sharptone Records. Kicking off the evening with the challenging task of opening, the newly signed Nuclear Blast Records act Tribal Gaze made a strong impression. Despite the brevity of their set, they maximized impact by performing “Smiling From the Chariots” and their newest single “Beyond Recognition” from the forthcoming album Inveighing Brilliance, due out October 17. In a rare move for an opening band, Tribal Gaze showcased a remarkable drum solo by Caesar, laying down some seriously impressive grooves that set the tone for the unforgettable night ahead.

The Summer Slaughter Tour Roars thru Long Island

What does an iconic band that just celebrated their 30th anniversary do next to keep the momentum going? They resurrect one of the most sought-after and legendary tours in metal history, The Summer Slaughter. What makes this tour so electrifying, beyond the powerhouse headliner Hatebreed, is the lineup of up-and-coming acts who are steadily forging their own unique marks on the ever-evolving metal landscape. The Paramount audience was fully engaged well before the band even took the stage, with Accept’s “Balls to the Wall” blasting through the PA system, setting an intense tone for the night. From the very first notes of the opening track “I Will Be Heard” to the furious final moments of “Looking Down the Barrel of Today,” the crowd was a non-stop sea of mosh pits and crowd surfing. A special shout out goes to the Paramount security team for their professionalism in ensuring everyone stayed safe while still being able to immerse themselves fully in the energy of the show. Even amid the intense chaos, moments of lighthearted fun emerged, especially when the band unleashed a gigantic inflatable Ball of Death into the crowd. Their performance was not only a fantastic retrospective of their storied career but also a clear statement to everyone present that they have far more to give — showing absolutely no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

With this many bands packed onto the bill, every act had to shorten their sets and absolutely go balls out, and that is exactly what Fugitive delivered. Their latest single, Spheres of Virulence, had the crowd hooked and eagerly looking for more

Gridiron brought their signature Rap/Metal/Hardcore fusion that had everyone bopping and moving through their entire set, all in support of their newest album Poetry from Pain.

Long Island’s own Pyrexia gave their all to the hometown crowd, showcasing exactly why they have remained a staple in the local metal scene for so many years.

Escuela Grind clearly understood the vital role of the opener, coming out heavy right from the start and steadily increasing the madness as their set progressed. With tracks like “Always Watching You” and “Ball and Chain” providing the perfect dance soundtrack, it was when Katerina paused the set to hype the audience up for Hatebreed, calling for a wall of death, that the crowd responded with full force, truly delighting the band on stage.

I always say the opening slot is the toughest of the night, but INCITE didn’t just open—they took the stage shortly after the doors opened. The audience was streaming in as they played, and they performed like seasoned veterans to a sold-out crowd. INCITE is exactly the reason to arrive early, or else you might just miss the emergence of the next big band on the scene.

Epica Brings Aspiral to New York City

Epica, the internationally renowned symphonic metal band, kicked off their highly anticipated tour supporting their newest album, “Aspiral,” in the vibrant city of New York at the historic Irving Plaza. With only three scheduled dates across the United States before venturing to Mexico and then onto other parts of the world, it was clear that the venue was filled to capacity with excited Epica fans from the entire northeastern region. The thrill and anticipation surrounding the first show of any tour always create a buzz, as both the band and the audience share a sense of uncertainty about how the evening will unfold. As the band took to the stage, the recognizable notes of "Design Your Universe" began to resonate through the venue, setting a captivating tone for what was destined to be a truly remarkable night. The setlist was an expertly curated blend of tracks from "Aspiral," along with classic fan favorites from their extensive catalog, featuring standout songs such as "Cross the Divide," "Fight to Survive," and "The Last Crusade," concluding the night with the powerful anthem "Consign to Oblivion." Epica delivered a flawless performance that showcased their exceptional musical talent, all while engaging playfully with the audience, creating an electric atmosphere. One can only hope that they will return to the United States soon to share their magnificent show with even more fans.

Opening the evening were the fan-favorite band Seven Spires, who captivated attendees with their dynamic presence. Having seen the band perform live last year, I was eagerly looking forward to experiencing their energy again. They split their set between their last two albums, “A Fortress Called Home” and “Gods of DeBauchery,” delivering hits such as "Almosttown," "Oceans of Time," and "Dare to Live." The band was not only energetic but also impressively tight, with vocalist Adrienne Cowan showcasing her powerful voice that was as strong and moving as ever.
