As the fans entered The Paramount Theatre, many adorned in makeup inspired by the band, the atmosphere felt less like a typical concert and more like an intimate gathering of passionate followers. The air grew thick with anticipation as the stage gradually filled with swirling smoke and moody blue lighting, setting the perfect tone for the night. The band made a striking entrance, appearing at the front of the stage on a moving platform, with Johannes cloaked in darkness and carrying the only source of light, creating an almost mystical aura. They opened powerfully with “Captain Goat” from their newest album Don’t Go into the Forest, before seamlessly diving into “Silence in the Age of Apes.” Their setlist covered a wide spectrum from their extensive catalog, spanning 10 albums, keeping the crowd enthralled. Having been a devoted fan since the very beginning, it’s been incredible to witness their evolution as both musicians and performers, growing into the commanding force they are today. With only a handful of shows left in the States, I highly recommend catching this unforgettable experience while you still can.

Direct support came from New Zealand’s Alien Weaponry, who began their set with the drummer stepping onto the stage first, energetically performing and singing the traditional Maori Haka. He was soon joined by the bassist and guitarist, together bringing their rich New Zealand heritage to the forefront, fused seamlessly with their heartfelt love of metal. Their performance felt like a cultural journey, connecting the audience to both their ancestry and promising future, at times inducing a trance-like state among attendees. This powerful trio rocked the stage with intensity, and their closing song “Kai Tangata” left everyone craving more.

Opening the evening were SpiritWorld, who entered dressed in Las Vegas cowboy western gear, setting a distinctive and unexpected mood. Initially unsure what to expect, the first chord of “Relic of Damnation” immediately made it clear — this was pure Thrash Metal at its finest. Tracks from their soon-to-be-released album Helldorado, such as “Waiting on the Reaper” and “No Vacancy,” were delivered with raw energy and precision. Frontman Stu Folsom commanded the stage with magnetic presence, while the band laid down a series of tight grooves that kept the audience locked in. If you’re heading to this show, arrive early — you definitely won’t want to miss SpiritWorld’s unforgettable performance.
