JOETOWN (Ft. Matt Star of Ace Frehley) Releases New 9 min. Prog Rock Epic Titled “Nero”, Includes Tribute & Nod to Late Composer Ennio Morricone

Following up on the success of the recent single “Freightrain”, long time legacy rocker, vocie of Bomber Alley and producer JOETOWN releases the single “Nero”world wide on Mindsnap Music / Von Artists, Ltd. This track digs deeper into the artist’s complexity and range. Joe explains; “I have always been difficult to put squarely into any one genre, this proves that again, its heavy rock, its metal, its progressive, it has a f’n whistle track, wtf… I was really excited to get deeper into more expansive arrangement, orchestration and guitar playing on ‘Nero’, all the guitars and bass are me, with Matt Starr (Ace Frehley, Mr. Big) tackling the drums.”

He continues, “Lyrically, 'Nero' is a critical summary of the influence that people in power possess in the 21st Century due to the advent of social media platforms supplanting actual delivery of facts. We live in a scary time as propaganda moves at the speed of light enabling leaders to manipulate the public in unprecedented ways.”

Regarding the Ennio Morricone tribute element, Joe is quick to give praise; “I’ve always loved the Ennio Morricone scores to the early Clint Eastwood and other westerns from that era, the material is so amazing! I let that influence and shape the entire end section of the song as a tribute to such a great composer… his music and style will forever endure.”

Joetown is proud to be performing live and on a float at the 2022 New Haven St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 13th and will be recording the entire event. He will also be headlining Crystal Bee’s in Southington CT on March 19th.

Joetown has been an active part of the New Haven scene since 1995 and is enjoying recent success from the late 2021 single “Freightrain” released by East Haven based Mindsnap MusicChristian “Opus” Lawrence of Dead By Wednesday, who owns Mindsnap Music is excited about the growing excitement around the band and its upcoming new single/video release "Nero" from the label on March 11th. “It’s going to be a major big week for the band and the label, so many great things are happening so fast, this band is on fire!” says Opus (Mindsnap Music / Dead By Wednesday drummer).

VALENCE Premiere “If You’re Not Into the Whole Brevity Thing"

New York instrumental prog-metal outfit VALENCE has partnered with the folks at Metal Injection to premiere their new music video. Fans can check out the video for their new single "If You're Not Into the Whole Brevity Thing" at the link found here. The new video is the first from the band since the release of their 2019 full-length 'Cognitive Dissidents', which PopMatters praised as "relentlessly intricate and unpredictable"

Speaking about the new, 'Big Lebowski' inspired video, Geoff Schaefer (guitar/keys) comments, “Obviously we’re all Big Lebowski devotees—I’m actually a Dudist priest—so it only felt right to make an homage to what’s clearly the greatest movie of all time.”

Chris Romano (drums) adds, “If anyone was wondering if we're into the whole brevity thing, the answer is no.”

About VALENCE

New York's VALENCE takes instrumental progressive metal to new heights through their eclectic compositions and energetic live show. The band joins disparate styles in a fusion of metal, jam, classical, jazz, and more. Heavy Blog is Heavy describes their music as "well made, passionate, and considerate instrumental progressive metal, very obviously indebted to the classics but also dedicated to sounding like its own thing." They won an Independent Music Award for "The Reckoning," off of their 2014 EP, Laser Baron, the follow up to their 2012 debut Sleepwalker.

Between the awards and rave reviews, the band has developed a reputation as a crushing force in the New York music scene and beyond. They’ve played music festivals including ProgDay and NXNE, official after-parties for Dream Theater and Clutch at the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY, as well as opening for acts such as Scale the Summit, Consider the Source, Black Crown Initiate, and Car Bomb.

The band released their latest full-length album, Cognitive Dissidents, on April 12, 2019. In its premiere of the second single, “Preferred Nomenclature,” Gear Gods wrote “there are no moments that make you wish this track had vocals, which says something about both the melodic content of the song and Valence’s ability to craft a well-thought-out and substantial piece of music.” PopMatters described the full album as “relentlessly intricate and unpredictable—yet remarkably unified and welcoming—a bit of wordless storytelling that will captivate fans of progressive rock.”

Brazil prog rockers PENTRAL dig deeps on Tim Palmer-mixed single 'All My Wounds'

"Fine specimen of dark and haunting metal rock, the power of which is amplified through atmospheric background vocal contributions throughout... a warranted foreboding of things to come" ~ Amplify Music Magazine

"Haunting, cavernous, mysterious, heavy and dark – these are all words that can be used to describe the debut single from Brazilian alternative rockers Pentral... Purveyors of a huge sound with a loaded message"~ Big Takeover Magazine

"A style all their own and an orchestral/progressive style that is hard to attain but easy for them to achieve. Beyond the progressive sound, however, is that original set of three personalities only found in the best power trios" ~ Jammerzine

Brazilian progressive rock / metal trio Pentral have released their 'All My Wounds' single, not long after debuting 'Silent Trees', the lead track from their debut album 'What Lies Ahead of Us', which will be released in May 2021. This album is a reflection on today's society, presenting the saga of a lowly couple fighting for their lives and sanity.

For the ten tracks comprising this album, the trio worked with legendary producer Tim Palmer (David Bowie's Tin Machine, The Mission, HIM, U2, Robert Plant, Tears For Fears, Ozzy Osbourne, Goo Goo Dolls, Pearl Jam).

Hailing from Belem in the north of Brazil, Pentral is made up of Victor Lima (vocals, guitars, songwriter, lyrics), Vagner Lima (drummer) and Joe Ferri (bass guitar). Their unique take on alternative rock can be described as progressive, heavy, groovy and melodic, while the band also deliver a strong political message about what is going on in Brazil and all over the world.

With an uplifting vibe with its lyrics, melody, harmonies and grooving rhythm, 'All My Wounds' is about the quest for spiritual healing and dealing with the highs and lows of life and toxic people. It touches upon how hard is to cope with grief and loss and how rewarding it is to bounce back from rock bottom.

"All My Wounds is a pulsating song. Drums and bass guitar are upfront together with the electric guitars. It's really more intense and way shorter and more incisive than our first single. I think that this is a high energy song - really unquiet but still melodic," says Victor Lima.

"As for the lyrics, they try to draw an inner battle to overthrow feelings of loss, way beyond this ordinary material life, moved by the need to keep moving forward as our characters notice and feel that´s much more out of their sights. It brings a message of hope, like some sort of compensation for what has been taken away from you."

Directed and edited by Roger Elarrat and produced by Luana Klautau with Cezar Moraes serving as director of photography, the video accompanying this track captured the band in live performance. The preceding video for 'Silent Trees' was filmed in their native Amazon - the first of several chapters in a dedicated saga that will unfold, track by track.

Pentral stands for 'spirit' in Latin, indicative of the message this band is trying to inspire via their sound - the need to transcend this material world through the power of music, without losing connection with reality and human frailties.

The power trio deeply is influenced by their Amazon roots, their music strongly attached to many global influences while trying to honor Brazil's groove and unique harmonies, progressive rock, metal music, atmosphere and melody. This debut album sums up years of experimentation and the search for human awareness of the environment, peace and equality.

'All My Wounds' and 'Silent Trees' are now available across online music stores and streaming platforms, including Apple Music and Spotify.

Album "While Time Disappears" Coming Fall 2020

We're excited to announce that Dutch rock trio Our Oceans have signed an international record deal with Long Branch Records for the release of their new album "While Time Disappears" coming Fall 2020. The song "Unravel" is the first single off the new album and available now at all streaming platforms.

Listen to "Unravel" here: https://ouroceans.lnk.to/whiletimedisappears

Our Oceans is formed by singer & guitarist Tymon Kruidenier (Cynic, Exivious). Joining him on bass and drums are his former Exivious colleagues, Robin Zielhorst (Cynic, Onegodless) and Yuma van Eekelen (Quadvium, Pestilence).

Singer & guitarist Tymon Kruidenier about the new single "Unravel":

"Unravel is probably one of the more unique songs on the album, with its uptempo vibe and many ups and downs. It’s about recognizing and breaking down the plethora of coping mechanisms we tend to build into our sense of self over the course of our lives. It’s a song about rediscovering who you are underneath it all. It was the first song we wrote for the new album and it was obvious from the very beginning that this had to be the opening track on the album as well as the first single release."

Haunting vocal melodies carrying heartfelt cries of longing, anger and despair. Bolstered by lyrical fretless bass lines, vigorous drum beats and captivating guitar riffs, Our Oceanslaces singer/songwriter influences with modern, progressive rock elements. Weaving mindful musicianship and introspective lyrics into a deeply melancholic, yet uniquely expansive musical universe.

Line Up:

Tymon Kruidenier - vocals & guitars

Robin Zielhorst - bass & vocals

Yuma van Eekelen - drums

GARGOYL Reveals New Single "Wraith"

Subscribe to Season Of Mist for new releases : https://som.lnk.to/YouTube 'Gargoyl' is out on October 9, 2020. Order here: https://redirect.season-of-mist.co...

Progressive grunge rockers GARGOYL, which features guitar virtuoso Dave Davidson (REVOCATION) and guitarist/vocalist Luke Roberts (AYAHUASCA), will be releasing their debut full-length on October 9 via Season of Mist!

“A big part of the impetus to form Gargoyl was to have a vehicle for our different influences so this track will give listeners a taste of the diverse moods this album has to offer," comments Davidson on the song's musical composition. "‘Wraith’ showcases a different side of my playing and compositional style that people are normally associated with. I had part of the music written for this piece for quite sometime, but it really came to life for me when I heard Luke’s haunting vocal melodies and lyrics. I hope you find this track eerily beautiful as well.”

Regarding the lyrics, Roberts adds, “In the first world, there's a paradigm that ‘one day I'll be gone so I might as well just look out for me while I'm here.’ “But imagine in death, in some form, you were still cognizant, trapped in the concrete and power lines of the city you live in, forced to watch the sum of everything you set in motion in your life unfold. Forced to watch your predecessors crawl through the legacy you left in your wake, desperately clinging to the pursuit of happiness in an unravelling world.

“If this was your fate, would then how you live and how you treat everyone and everything around you not become of dire importance?”

GARGOYL's self-titled album is available for pre-orders HERE.

Gargoyl is many things at once, which, automatically subjects the band to the journalistic and fan guessing game/rite of passage as to what style they actually are. Their 11-song self-titled debut is progressive, atmospheric, heavy, technical and avant-garde; a blend of sounds that ultimately coalesce into a body of work that engages and challenges. That, in itself, covers a broad spectrum, but further inroads into Gargoyl’s sound continually reveal new elements of intrigue and persuasion. It is the beauty — and purpose — of the project.

Formed in early 2018 by guitarist Dave Davidson (Revocation) and guitarist/vocalist Luke Roberts (Ayahuasca), the groundwork for Gargoyl was laid when the two men met while on tour. The pair realized they shared a musical kinship and admiration for one another and made good on their word to see the project through. Gargoyl’s two-song Asomatous demo was released in March 2019, setting the stage for their eventual signing to Season of Mist and release of their debut LP this October. The album’s drums were recorded in July 2019 with Chris Johnson at GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts; guitars were tracked with Greg Dawson at BWC Studios outside of Toronto. Vocals were recorded by Roberts at his home studio.

Gargoyl is completed by the virtuosic talents of bassist Brett Leier and drummer James Knoerl who collectively add further layers of intrigue and soul to the music. The collaboration between members opened up the creative floodgates and further expanded their sound. “The riffs were flowing out so fast,” remarks Davidson about the early stages of the writing process. “It was clear that these ideas were in the back of our minds waiting to come out.”

The music for their self-titled album was split evenly between Davidson and Roberts, with Roberts also penning the album’s lyrics and vocal melodies. “Working with someone in more of a 50/50 kind of collaborative style was new for me,” elaborates Davidson. “It’s nice having someone to split those writing duties with, someone who is just as invested in every little single intricacy and detail. It allowed me to function in a different sort of role, which was refreshing. I think that also led to more creativity because I’m writing in a different style, writing with all new members and taking on a different writing role in a band.”

The haunting and melancholic tonality of Roberts’ vocals is undoubtedly one of the primary facets of Gargoyl’s sound. Roberts’s layering, harmonies and inflection, at times, recall classic vocalists from the ’90s grunge era, but what really sold Davidson was his versatility and ability to contour his clean, distinctive vocals over unorthodox compositions.

As a result, Gargoyl’s debut successfully oscillates between unnerving, emotional segments, to progressive, Goth-tinged hard rock. Davidson and Roberts have crafted Gargoyl in such a manner that it refuses to be boxed-in. Davidson has already fielded quite a few assertions on Gargoyl’s sound — some have tagged it as grunge meets black metal, Queens of The Stone Age meets Voivod or even a jazzier version of Alice In Chains.

“Anytime a band has a lot of different influences…I think it’s important to have a clear vision and goal so that all those influences mesh together in a way that doesn’t sound forced,” says Davidson. “I wanted it to be a cohesive, artistic statement and I know that Luke does as well. I’ve always wanted to blend genres. In the truest sense of the word we’re ‘prog rock.’”
